They take far too long messing around with the toss and stuff . toss is at 2.15 and start at 2.45 ? since whe ndoes it take half an hour to put ya pads on or take 15 minutes to toss a coin . By the time they have messed around it will be raining again .

Why did it take so long to start? I know it has been raining but surely they could have done the toss inside while it was raining and then everybody would have been ready as soon as they said the pitch was ready...

Pitch was covered, think they might have wanted to see it before choosing to bat or bowl

Also cpatians might change their mind about what to do depending on how long the rain lasts.

What happened to the good ole' W.G.Grace saying, "If you win the toss bat, if you aren't sure what to do, consider all the options, and then bat" Or something to that effect, that is how it should be done :p

Well can't see sanga being paid to wear the Albion as he has covered up the Albion sign on the back
Title: Re: England v Sri Lanka
Post by: justnotcricket86 on May 26, 2011, 05:33:42 PM
Sanga did this in the world cup, and if money talks johan, then why is his lid stickered?

The fact he has it stickered probably tells you his loyalty to Ayrtek is there, and due to unforseen circumstances, his lid is not available.

However the idea of Milson legging it out during the drinks break makes me laugh...
Title: Re: England v Sri Lanka
Post by: roco on May 26, 2011, 05:36:37 PM
Well he went there to give a lid to the opener so if sangas was broken I'm sure he would've taken one along so we won't know till Tom returns
Title: Re: England v Sri Lanka
Post by: justnotcricket86 on May 26, 2011, 05:44:52 PM
Nothing to do with the word cup. You said money talks. If that's the case, why would he be wearing a stickered up helmet? Use your head mate

Yes, we shall 'see how events unfold' then

I think it maybe a newbery because on the handle sticker it looked like the one newbery use with just an 'S', where as SS use 'SH'.
But not entirely sure.

Kit aside, what did people think of yesterdays cricket?

I watched the channel 5 highlights. It looked as though England bowled well, without any luck.

Kept Sri Lanka to less than 3 runs an over, but were unlucky not to find edges. Didn't look like they bowled many bad balls.

Can see it petering out to a draw though having lost so much time already.

If England can pick up 2/3 quick wickets this morning then they will bowl them out quickly as there is no batting from 6 onwards

England have bowled well but lacked wicket balls. Sounds obvious but can't help but feel as well as we've bowled, we've not been aggressive enough. Not the England of the winter Vs Aus

It's funny isn't it that he has a better strike rate than both Dravid and Chanderpaul, with a better average, yet he doesn't score quickly enough. Best English number 3 in goodness knows how long yet the British fans want him to score quicker. I think Bell scored 100 in 200+ balls in the SCG test when England were already 386-2 or something, which was seen as a great knock. Trott however, is too slow............... ridiculous!!!

Surely the criticism of scoring rate is more specific to this match rather than his career? I agree to a point that in this circumstance it may have been worthwhile trying to speed things up a little once we passed their score, but come on, I'd rather have him score 200 at a 50sr than 100 at a 80sr.

Trott world class , doesnt score a run all summer in county cricket , then test matches come on long and he switches into a run machine , scoring rate doesnt matter if hes getting them , maybe in odis hes a little slow but test cricket i like greedy players .

It was a highlights package as it was. Might struggle to make an hour long programme out of that. Maybe we'll be treated to cricket during the scheduled advert breaks, and adverts during the scheduled programme time to make channel 5 happy.

I love the idiocy of England supporters.

Trott got 2, Pieterson also got 2, Strauss got 4 and so did Swann, and yet instead of blaming them all, good old England fans all jump on the "Blame Pieterson" bandwagon  ???

And then you have Finn, he gets smashed all over the place and is often the most expensive England bowler. And yet just because he gets a couple of wickets he is seen by some as one of our best bowlers... As a test match bowler you should be able to bowl line and length for large amounts of time, that is what we expect from all of our bowlers, and yet Finn somehow gets round this even though nearly half of his deliveries are absolute sh***..
Title: Re: England v Sri Lanka

how many amateurs face 90 mph bouncers week in week out very few on here anyway .
Title: Re: England v Sri Lanka
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on June 06, 2011, 03:05:43 PM
it doesnt have to be at 90mph to cause injury as im sure many of the people who have been injured will vouch for at 50 mph the ball will still cause significant damage.

The BSI testing only caters for speeds of upto 65mph which im sure you will see in most decent standards of cricket ???
Title: Re: England v Sri Lanka
Post by: kookaburraking on June 06, 2011, 03:08:22 PM
yes but i doubt a 50 mph ball is going to crack the helmet ive been hit at 75 and minmal damage wasd produced on the helmet my point being it cracked probaly becuase the ball was short and at 85 + and the track is a decent pace .

And the act of breaking the plastic will dissipate a fair amount of energy.

it doesnt have to be at 90mph to cause injury as im sure many of the people who have been injured will vouch for at 50 mph the ball will still cause significant damage.

The BSI testing only caters for speeds of upto 65mph which im sure you will see in most decent standards of cricket ???
Is the 65mph BSI use at impact or bowler release?

Can't help thinking though that the major sponsor on display could be a reason for the empty seats in the photo.

LSGA - please could you elaberate, what is wrong with an Investment Bank sponsoring a sporting venue? -

Returning to yesterday's banter slightly... the lower stands in the pics weren't open to the public (plus they are cold and in the shade) - but there was a decent crowd at the ground.

When I say decent - it is a work day and the ground was about 20-25% full (which does mean about 75-80% empty) but Lords holds 28,000 so 20-25% full means about 6000 people (with more arriving as I left.)

JNC86 - no I save them for Mrs B only ;)

Haha, takes me back that.  My wee brother used to be a very good goalkeeper back in the day.  Remember when he was about 14 or 15 him taking goal kicks off the back garden into the gap between two windows on the back of the house.  In retrospect it was bound to end badly, but at the time I remember being quite impressed that he managed to get 30 or 40 in without any wavering at all before he smashed his own bedroom window.  I was also impressed that he managed to blag his way out of it for a while, convincing our folks some undesirable youths had been playing football behind our house.

England had the original decision reversed, having referred it to DRS.

Hotspot showed that it was bat and not glove after all.

I was run out tonight when going well, bat, helmet, gloves and pads went flying as they do normally when I get out when I am set. It's passion and hurts nobody, I like Prior and fair play, he was just unlucky that his bat went the way of a 100 year old window
