With the fast approaching ICC World T20, I was curious as to find out where people's loyalties lie and which teams people think are the favourites to win and with which squad they would win. Also as a bit of fun what would your T20 dream team be. (Current players only please).
-
I'm heading over to watch a week or so of it, but not really supporting anyone as Scotland failed to qualify this time :(

Who do you think are favourites to win this year?
Surely one of the sub-continent teams.
-
my money is on the safas
-
I hope SA win but we all know that they are great for one thing at world cups and that is an Almighty CHOKE... :(
But you never know..
-
Nobody seems to favour the windies? What if they put out their best squad?

If SA dont win it I would love The Iland boys to win it... ;)
-
Who do you think are favourites to win this year?
I think it'll be tight, hard to see England defending their title with the their lack of power in the batting. i imagine pakistan and India will be there or thereabouts, as will the hosts.
-
i'll tel you who won't win it and thats australia.(yep i'm an aussie)
-
If SA dont win it I would love The Iland boys to win it... ;)
Pray that big Chris is included.
-
Sri Lanka are always good for a few quid
-
I will be supporting my country of Birth Pakistan.. Who have done exceptionally well in this competition over the last 3 occasions.
Finalists, Winners and Semi Finalists.. SO I expect them to win, especially with Razzaq, Shoaib Malik, Kam Akmal, Imran Nazir and Arafat in the squad..
But strong competition this time around, Safa looking strong, So too is Windies, India and even England actually!
-
gut instint says its one of the three main sub-continental sides with the West Indies and Australia as outsiders.
You can rule England out now for three reasons - no KP, no IPL experience and not enough power at either end. SA have the experience (and should have KP probably :D ) but lack the bite and NZ are a bit rubbish.
Australia could surprise a few folk, though they are probably similar to an old style NZ side in a number of ways.
The West Indies, I wonder about. Lots of players with IPL experience, good spin options and the biggest hitters of all in Gayle, Pollard, Smith etc...
-
NZ are a lot better than people give them credit for. If the likes of Guptil, Ryder, Taylor etc come off then they have a batting line up to match any in the competition. Windies will be there or thereabouts but it really depends on their attitude. Australia won't get close. England are lacking a bit but are not that far away. India will flatter to deceive and Sri Lanka could be the dark horses. I think its going to be a good competition. I just hope the pitches are up to it.....
-
Dream team anyone?

pakistan V SA final.

pakistan V SA final.
Hoping and praying it's a WI v SA final, I hope Andre Russell gets a chance as a batsman because his bowling could do with some work but I don't think his statistics do him justice considering he's a no9 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/276298.html

Windies are under achievers at this level imo
Gayle
Pollard
Dwayne Smith
Rampaul
Roach
Bravo x 2
Thats seven already. . . .they certainly have the potential to go all the way. . .but can they handle the pressure??

Best
Smith
Roach
Gayle
Taylor
Edwards
Deonarine
There's 15 men I REALLY hope they've got it in them, they've certainly got the potential for a 200+ score every game but they don't really have many people capable of stemming a collapse...
-
Lots of interest in batting line ups and a bit of a look at bowling attacks, but not everything reaches the ropes. Anyone got any views on fielding strengths? Or is that unimportant? - Genuine question.

A quality often overlooked in most players! I'd certainly back the likes of Aus, SA, WI and England (on their day) In this department.
-
I think Afghanistan and Bangladesh will surprise a few people in this tournement. They are decent teams who live for this format. Admittedly, the games I've seen them play in they haven't had too much round their ears but sub-continent conditions will favour them. They've both put in good performances against Pakistan this year and should put in some good performances

Gayle

I'd also include ms dhoni, he can be one help of a finisher, especially against Yorkers. I'd be tempted to open with warner and Gayle but based on warners recent form I'd maybe opt for Levi instead.

I don't know how I missed out on marlon Samuels but I'd have him in too, been in cracking form recently, would also love to see Jerome Taylor return to int cricket saw him bowling recently. Definitely still a threat.
-
Samuels...oh dear, me too.
Best Windies XI would seem:
Gayle
Smith
Samuels
Bravo
Bravo
Pollard
Chanderpaul
Fletcher
Roach
Bishoo/Rampaul
Narine
With Badree, Cooper, Russell and the spare of Bishoo/Rampaul. Possible a batsman light but still amtch for anyone.
Key is, has anyone mentioned Darren Sammy...

I personally don't think Sammy is international standard he's both a weakness in the bowling and batting line up, quality fielder though. I'd be tempted to use Russell rather than rampaul, Russell isn't as good a bowler but he averages around 20 with a strike rate of 150+ in T20 cricket and averages over 36 with a strike rate of over 120 in ODI cricket, i think he's ranked 35 on the icc ODI batsmans rankings and no7 on the allrounder's rankings. And doesn't hurt that he bowls over 90mph at times!
-
Darren Sammy (capt), Dwayne Bravo (vice-capt), Samuel Badree, Darren Bravo, Johnson Charles, Fidel Edwards, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith.
Well this is the official squad for the T20, Fidel Edwards picked over Roach for me was a poor decision but I suppose it's kinda logical if you take into account his no ball problems, don't understand why they chose Badree over Bishoo, strong lineup but my greatest worry is that with a few injuries they'll struggle against the top teams.
-
Should cg have been vice captain given his experience in the format?
-
Well done to Alex Hales on his 50 against Australia in the warm up game today, well done to Hussey too even though aus lost!http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-world-twenty20-2012/engine/current/match/578138.html

Tournament underway with sl beating Zimbabwe by 82 runs, shame as I have high hopes of Zimbabwe!
-
Lankins look good.. Zim never turned up, they can play better than that..
-
Mendis with 6-8 did not help zim
-
Granted it wasn't sa's best 11 but zim beat them twice and it did have the likes of amla Levi, albie morkel and marchant de Lange, h madakadza was looking good in that triangular series
-

Thanks for that little reminder.. Knowing my luck Zim will turn up against my chokers.. :)
-
Never knew Wilkie opened the batting for Ireland!
-
Good to see another full house for the Afghanistan Vs India game....the atmosphere is rocking.... :D
-
These Afghans are a credit to the tournament, play your shots boys!!!
-
I would agree with that! ^
I would love to see them beat India! That would be so funny!
-

Aint that the truth.. Would be magic for them to pull off the win..
-
Hopefully they can beat India and then rest a few for the game vs England....
-
To say the least I am nervous...could be another early exit for India :(

Could've been alot worse if they'd held their catches!!!
-
Could've been alot worse if they'd held their catches!!!
I know :( this might be the kick up the backside that might get India going or going home...we have no bowling and just batting can't win you all matches...
-
tell you what though if Afghans win this game Eng better watch out as they would get even hungrier to cause another upset...
-
The Indian bowling line up is poor at best, they need to chase to be a force in this tournament I believe.
-
tell you what though if Afghans win this game Eng better watch out as they would get even hungrier to cause another upset...
Actually, I think if Afghanistan do win against India then there is much less likelihood of England slipping up against them. No excuses for not taking them seriously if they win today! The only reason India could lose this game is because they have underrated them. Poor preparation and a poor mindset...

I just have a feeling that this will be Afghans and Ireland tournament....
-
So good to see Yuvi back, adds some experience after Dravid, Tendulkar and Co aren't involved. Starting to tighten the screw now!!!
-
Well the dream of an upset seems to be disappearing :(
-
Noooo!!
Idiotic shot
-
still close...still doable...i dont want India to loose but i find myself feeling good for Afghans as they get closer and closer
-
Whilst India won, I must say I was impressed the way Afghanistan played. The more I see them play, the better they are becoming. From here they will become nothing but better than what they were today.
In batting I think there batsman need more experience, that will help them control there nerves. They are improving but often there batting reminds me of Shahid Afridi as they wish to hit everything out of park, perhaps this has something to do with Pathan inheritance?
Overall well played Afghanistan, you were impressive.
-
Was very impressed with Afghanistan, they showed their inexperience at times but they're undoubtedly full of raw talent! The thing that stuck with me was Ashwin's bowling, in particular, the stall in the middle of his bowling action. What are the rules regarding this? It seemed like quite a dramatic stop in his action which I thought was illegal?
-
I just have a feeling that this will be Afghans and Ireland tournament....
Hopefully it'll be Windies or Zimbabwe's :D
-
Phew!! that was mighty close, closer than the 23run win would make you think..well played Afghans...as for Ashwin stopping/halting I don't know if its illegal or not but don't think its in the spirit of the game...a few spinners do this but its one thing to really slow down your arm swing/release but another to just stop..
WI fast bowler (can't remember his name) did this in the 50 over WC I think where he would run in and slow down/stop as if he was pulling out then continue running in to bowl...which i remember was criticized for not being in the spirit...
-
Good win for my boys tonight. Was a little worried before the game. :)

If only Hamilton M had carried his form over from the triangular series >:(
-
Mccullum's smashing it!!!
These pitches don't appear to be slow low turners.
-
McCullum's got his ton off 51 balls! Mind you, Bangladesh look dreadful...!
-
CARNAGE!!!
-
123 off 58 balls... :D
-
CARNAGE!!!
Highest international T20 innings
-
Out off the last ball - trust him to lose his head in a crisis :D
-
McCullum was a good shout over Sanga as my keeper in my fantasy team :)
-
Are we going to see the first upset of the comp today? :)
-
I doubt it very much
-
Shocking pitch will be interesting seeing Finn
-
I doubt it very much
Think you might be correct..
-
Fair play to Luke wright batted well
-
He deserved a ton but I don't suppose he'd be too bothered as 99* is decent knock!! Especially off 55 balls! 8)
-
Luke Wright has answered quite a few of his critics with that knock! Ok, Afghanistan were rubbish but you've still got to score the runs and he did....good on him. He looks a different player from a couple of seasons ago. Looking forward to seeing Finn scare the daylights out of the Afghans on this wicket...!
-
McCullum was a good shout over Sanga as my keeper in my fantasy team :)
Swapped mccullum for ab last second
-
Cracking knock by wrighty, shame he couldn't go on and get his 100! Always gutted for the player in that situation.
-
2 wickets down now - can't see the Afghans coping well with Finn or Dernbach?
-
Are we going to see the first upset of the comp today? :)
Mmmm
-
8) Think I will stay off the keyboard for a little while 8) India should be a walk in the park.
-
Good advertisement or boom boom
-
Two guys broken Gayle's record now, what're the odds he'll just sit down and take it :P
-
Nice innings by McCullum today.
I want that bat!! Btw, Nasser Hussain's comment cracked me up
"McCullum's got a nice lump of wood there. And he knows how to use his wood too!" :D
-
Aus wi today, Gayle and smith opening, got high hopes!
-
Gayle and Smith opening for one team, and Warner and Watson for the other!
Great fun watching for me as I'm not bothered who wins the match, as long as it's entertaining! 8)
-
Care to predict the match tally of sixes Mr Hosk?
-
If Gayle stays in then carnage!
I would say 27 maximums in the match if it's a good match!
If it's not as dynamic and it's a bowlers wicket however, then 17?
-
Wi 191/8, cg getting his 50 from 26 with a typically slow start, Samuels showing the world just how much he's changed. Aus 100 off 9.1 overs, making wi bowling attack look incompetent, where's Russell? Would like to see him transform into a batsman if the bowling doesn't work out for him, so much talent! Rampaul's been shocking today. And 17 sixes so far, looks like you may not be so far off Mr Hosk! Edit: would've loved to see Gayle bat all 20 overs, would've gotten 200+ for sure, don't think Sammy should be in the side really.
-
Both games today were affected by rain, makes you wonder who decided to hold the tournament around the monsoon season..
-

Same people who thought it was a good idea to play cricket in England?
-
After finding myself as Englands number 1 fan today at a 4 nations karate comp the wife was taking part in I missed todays games :(
Karate was good thou.. England beat Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
-
After todays game is it fair to say England are going to have their hands full with India's spinners come the test series?
-
I was amused to see Harbhajan picking up four wickets after playing for a year.
-
Batting second on a dryish wicket , when playing spin is not your best strength was surely a way to lose a game after winning the toss.
-
I was amused to see Harbhajan picking up four wickets after playing for a year.
It was a change to see Harbhajan flighting the ball beautifully.
-
I think that aside from the fact that, on the night, India played very well and England did not. I think that a large factor was the team selection. I don't see why Bresnan is in the team at all, I don't think he's performed well enough recently and especially shouldn't be in T20 team. Patel would've added balance to the team with both improved batting and his spin would've helped, taking the pace off definitely seemed the key.

I think Bresnan played to give him some game time....this match didn't mean anything after all. I'm certain Patel will be back in for the next match.
-
Should broad be in the team is more my question
Bar being captain I would prefer Bresnan to play with Patel as well
-

I didn't see his bowling but taking four wickets on your comeback against world champions is a big task :)
-
It is rubbish to say "match did not mean anything". It still is a international game (not a warm-up) and dents the record - and lowest T20 total for England.
-
England were outclassed in all 3 forms and there was a silly broad moment brought in for good measure
Where is jeet when you need him
-
Samuels bat from yesterday. Unusual scuff sheet?

I have given up arguing about Broad being in, he doesn't deserve to be as far as I'm concerned (and I'm also talking about in test as well, when you look at his stats in detail) but as long as he's captain his place is set in stone, would much rather see someone who can bowl intelligently and also reliably bat, like Woakes, maybe Trego?
-
Surely England can find a better captain than Broad... You need half a brain to captain aN international team
-
What a farce this tournament is.... The best teams in each group all now in the one group so 2 of them will be eliminated before the finals and allow 2 of the second ranked teams in.
Rediculous.
-
I think the scheduling of the tournament in the middle of monsoon season is the bigger farce. Only two matches have been affected by heavy rain, but forecasts for the next couple of weeks are looking very, very bleak.
-
Conceivably, this could be the first international tournament decided in a 5 over a side bash...
http://tribune.com.pk/story/441371/icc-defends-schedule-amid-monsoon/
-
sod that, lets just have a super over!
-
Would love to see Russell play today, apparently he's losing his place to bravo as all rounder, why is he always sidelined? He's a quality one day batsman in my opinion and deserves more chances. I think Sammy should go to be honest Russell has the potential to bat up the order rather than being relegated to no9 helps that he can bowl 1 or 2 overs if needed too.
-
Anyway if England are to beat Windies today they NEED Gayle out before the 15th because if he bats all 20....well I don't think It's even worth asking about even with Windies dodgy bowling attack
-
Nz bowlers getting crucified by sanga, dilshan and jayawardene.
-
Who decided on the format for the Super 8? Why are the four unbeaten teams grouped together and the four group runners up together? Two teams who didn't perform in the group stage will get rewarded with a semi final over two teams who topped their group. Seems very, very odd to me - rewarding mediocrity in a way.
-
Not looking too good is it
-
Not looking too good is it
Nope its not looking great.
-
Hats off to Windies but for me Broads captaincy cost us that game. Only 2 spinners weren't enough on that track, windies bowled 15 overs of spin out of their 20. Eng bowled 7, bowling Patel to Gayle was talked about by two captains (Colly and Tres) before the game as something they should not do as he'll get smashed, But he did it. And Morgan batted far too low, cant blame Bairstow he's a finisher not a no.4. Broad will inevitably slip under the radar as he had 2/26 and bowled relatively well but shocking captaincy at this level.
-
Morgan at 5 is criminal, as is Kieswetter still being in the team, 53 runs in last 5 matches is terrible when you need a really strong start. I'd give gloves to Bairstow/Buttler and bring Lumb in for Kieswetter, and Briggs in for Patel, maybe even Briggs in for Finn/Dernbach if we want to play 3 spinners
-
I think kiesey is getting stick over little realy. Couple of unlucky dismissals And didn't connect with a rank short ball today.Should have been out away. He did smash a quick 30 odd against india when no one else hit it off the square. We are losing early wickets but were also chasing too many. Prob 20 too many tonight atleast. Patel shouldn't be anywhere near an England shirt. He doesn't offer anything at this level. Broads captaincy was odd putting him up against probably the best hitter of good bowling let alone the (No Swearing Please) Patel throws down. I would say drop Patel, bring in Briggs and give broad captaincy for dummies book and we will be ok.
-
Patel's handy with the bat but for me he won't improve till his fitness gets better...
-
And kieswetter seems to get a lot of hate, I personally think he's quite good, maybe I'm just going crazy or have been swept away by youthful ignorance ;)
-
I suspect were not quite as good as we thought we are
Patel is in for some harsh criticism i would open with Patel and drop Bedwetter bring in Briggs who does turn the ball.
Not convinced we have the know how without kp to go far in this tournament
Oh and Chris Woakes would be in my side before Bresnan and Broad.
Swanny the 3rd protagonist is not fairing much better either
-
You would open with Patel? For what reason? Get him out the way early?
-
Oh and Chris Woakes would be in my side before Bresnan and Broad.
Spot on
-
You would open with Patel? For what reason? Get him out the way early?
Cause he can bat... Much better batsman than a lot of people give him credit for. Good clean hitter of the ball, and a damn sight better bet than Kieswetter (more consistent!). Oh, and he might like a pie or two but he's not unfit, just big. Still quick round the outfield, and a very good arm.
-
well i like the 3rd spinner and Patel believe it or not is not a bad bat in any form of the game seriously underrated cricketer.
His strike rate is as good as Bedwetters and he has not really had a chance at international level t20 anyway
Sorry tumo just seen your reply
But Chris Woakes is cheer class
-
It is funny Swann i think went for more than Patel but no mention of his poor bowling leave the big lad alone
-
Maybe England are on the slide down hill due to new younger player's lack of experience and a duff skipper?
-
Kieswetter is our 2nd best batsman, would be criminal to drop him.
I would have Bopara in the team instead of Patel or Hales.
Think our team still is very strong, just have not performed when it matters. Beat Australia and Pakistan in the warm up matches. Few bad games and suddenly everyone is a bad player and should not be playing. No reason why we cant beat Sri Lanka and New Zealand and go through.
-
good is debate but nobody not saying were a decent side but not in the top 4 anymore in this form for me.
Kieswetter will not be dropped and Bopara can and has not bought a run in quite a while
Patel should be given a chance we need a biffer to open in my eyes somebody will real power play Bedwetter is 6 or 4 nothing else i want somebody to go at the bowling
-

Are you anti-Notts or something?! Hales is a class act, better than Bopara. Bopara's never had the mental game, and unfortunately for him recent events in his life have affected him more. Hales has just hit 68, and has looked good since he came into the England side. Patel isn't used nearly enough as a batsman, and was poorly captained by Broad, can't have left arm spinners bowling to Gayle, meat and drink. Kieswetter's also a poor batsman, could park a bus in that bat-pad gap!
-

Kiesey isn't poor. He gets far too much stick. He has scored runs this year in all formats. Probably the best keeper batsman on the county circuit ATM.
-
Prior by a mile if you can include him
Keiswetter is not a great keeper admittedly neither was Prior to start with
Bairstow for me is the air to the throne of Prior.
Or seeming as everybody plumping for there counties young alex davies

Didn't include prior as he's not really on the county circuit that often with tests etc but yes he would be up there with the best keeper in all formats. Bairstow is a decent keeper but doesn't do it enough and buttler I think will be there in a couple of years.
-
Can't believe bopara is still there! He's an absolute imposter.
-

Cannot agree with that at all. Would rather see Foster, Read, Wheater, Mustard, Simpson, Ambrose, and Bates ahead. Kieswetter too inconsistent behind the stumps, takes some very spectacular catches but wouldn't back him to take most of the simple ones. Need to stop searching for this Gilchrist-esque keeper, cause in ODIs/T20s we aren't going to find him. Pick a keeper who is exceptional behind the stumps, and solid in front of them. Or just pick Steven bloody Davies and have the right man in the side for the job!

I agree. Although, foster and read are over the hill in my opinion. Bates is probably the best pure keeper of the lot, but Davies offers the best in terms of solid keeping and batting (Admittedly, not on current form!)
-
Here's my team:-
Hales
Kesweitter
Bairstow
Morgan
Butler
Wright
Swann
Broad
Bresnan
Briggs
Finn
Fat Samit is my role model but he's a crap spinner and only a steady batsman, better for 50 over or if you really need a 3rd spinner in a test match. Dembach seems to get smacked all over the place so just get big Bres to bowl yorkers. Play 2 proper spinners and get Wright to bowl a few overs if you need him. Let Bairstow bat and let Wright do the job he did in the 2010 t20 wc and biff at 6. Swann and Broad are better sloggers than Bres so let them go in 7/8.
-
Looks like Watson is a good bet for man of the tournament. :o

in Bumble's voice....
WALLOP!!!
:D
He said on Twitter he's been stopped from saying that! He didn't say it at all during his commentary on Gayle & Charles's innings yesterday, I'm devastated!

Easy win for you lot today. WI should have enough to win today, think Pakistan, Aussie will win tomorrow. That my weekend betting.
-
if finn hits the stumps it should be a no ball and free hit ... that will stop it
-
Broad should not be in the side he is a liability
-
Here's my team:-
Hales
Kesweitter
Bairstow
Morgan
Butler
Wright
Swann
Broad
Bresnan
Briggs
C'mon guys do I get a gold star for picking the winning xi !

Kieswetter didn't play either really!
-
I think we can beat the Lankies with early wickets, but we have to get out batting order right, the pitch at Kandy has been getting slower and lower while we've been here and CK seems to have lost the ability to rotate the strike (and keep wicket), teams haven't been getting bowled out at all so need our best 5 bowlers in and forget whether they can. At or not.
Luck to still be in the thing as we were dire against a very poor Windies side.

Better off dropping bed wetter, having Bairstow keep and fat sam come in. Doesnt matter who opens they wont do worse than kieswetter
-
Great start by my chokers.. :(

Agree with this entirely, as Nasser Hussain said yesterday we need to not worry about bits and pieces cricketers, we need to get proper bowlers and proper batsmen in. Need 5 best bowlers for the day, which for me is Broad, Finn, Briggs, Swann and either Bresnan or Patel depending on the pitch. If we can nick a couple of wickets early on we'll be right in the mix I think as SL middle order is nowhere near as strong as their top 3
-
what was he doing... beaten on the outside edge by a straight ball which hit leg stump...
nice batting!
-
Levi is under pressure for a score massively after that duck again today. Seems as tho his record ton was very much a flash in the pan innings.
-

Who knows??? I had such high hopes for him during this comp. :(
SA's batting is always comical in world cups.
-
SA spinners employing interesting tactic to Shane Watson, employing the under-used slow long hop in a bid to...well, I don't know what they're expecting with it! Luring him into a false sense of security after hitting the ball to all parts?!

Sounds about right. I gave up watching and went to cut the lawn.. Oh well I will now have to support who ever wins.. :)

It works on countless occasions in cricket games everywhere. The short, athletically challenged, 60 year old rocks up and bowls moon balls and double bouncers and takes 5fer!!
Great Tactics :D
-
The tactic worked, Peterson burgling Watson's wicket for a paltry 70 runs! SA comeback undoubtedly forthcoming
-
So need India to win today. Aussie to beat Pak in the next game and we need to smash India in the last game to stand a chance of getting into the semi.. Think I will buy a lottery ticket instead.
-
Kohli is looking classier with every knock.
-
Easy victory in the end. sehwag looked abit subdued
-
Bairstow to keep tomorrow ????
Samit back...

Not a bad tournament so far for the worlds #9 ranked team.

So, must win for england. They've replaced one man, woefully out of nick, in Kieswetter, and replaced him with another who is also out of nick in Bopara... Dernbach and patel come in for briggs and bresnan
-
Bopara..... WHY?
-
Patel for briggs... Why?
I prefer dernbach over bresnan, as I don't think he's been fully fit for a while now
-
I think Bresnan is in need of a break, although Dernbach does not to me seem to be of the requisite class for an international bowler. Briggs should be in there for me, use Ravi as the third seamer!
-
Can England win? Probably not!
-
I'd rather have seen Samit AND Briggs in. And Woakes. but I don't think that would happen. Woakes must've said something REEEALLY bad about someone in the England set-up to not get a game ahead of the woefully average Dernbach!
-
He probably said he likes KP!
-
So kiesey dropped for bairstow who's struggled just as much? I can understand dropping him but why take out one of our best fielders when buttler is in the side? Patel in for Briggs is crazy and so is the inclusion of Ravi. I would have dropped kiesey, brought in lumb to open and given the gloves to jos!
-

-
Can someone please tell me whether English selectors have some sort of intimacy with Ravi Singh Bopara?
-
sounds like England have panicked a bit,I would of kept keiswetter in because he can change a game.
ravi in is a surprise,I think they are thinking we are covering all bases bowling and the extra batsman. He is woefully out of nick thou at present.
I actually like Bopara, prob in the minority on this forum, but I think he has all the ability in the world but needs a shrink rather than a batting coach.
-
That going home feeling is washing over me I hope not but I see no way in this game unless somebody possibly 2 bat like never before
Start the car
BRING KP BACK
-
Inspired selections! So bairstow gets 2 off 2 to add to his 34 so far this tournament. 3 less from one more innings than kiesey! Patel went for lots too!
Shocker from the umpire for hales!
-
It ok bopara is still to bat who opened in the last World Cup to give us starts
Why can Ian bell not play 20/20
Hindsight I guess
-
Should've batted first and set the tone, we've played into their hands now >:(
-
the wheels are coming off and the doors are about to
-
Come on sammy
-
So, England on the way out from here...?
-
Barring a butler miracle yes
-
Absolute shambles from England, havent seen a worse performance in ages!
-
And people say we don't need KP? Balderdash!
-
Oh and Bopara is terrible!
-
Game is Still alive 38 runs of 17 runs.
Hold tight :)
-
That should hopefully end bopara as international player
Play Patel as a batsmen
-
Patel always had the class never given a chance in t20
Anybody else think broad should be captain hardly showing inspiration is he
-
Other than carrying a bit of weight, what has Patel actually done wrong?
-
Nothing ever just won 180 quid though got the green light to spend it as well
-
Patel always had the class never given a chance in t20

No way he should be captain. Unless you're world class being a captain who bowls is a very tough job. I can't think of many successful captains who were purely bowlers. Surely Morgan had to do it, our most experienced T20 player apart from KP.
-
England have not got to grips with sub continent conditions and have a tough tour of India ahead.i would like to see us play proper batsmen whatever the format.
Oddly enough i have the same debate at my club for 50 overs on Saturdays.
At least Patel showed he has masses of abilty forget the extra pounds it's runs and wickets that count.
Playing an out of form bops today was so so wrong.big selection mistake.
-

Lol
-
ECB needs a look at it self
Where was woakes bell prior and kp
Yes prior has a dodgy record at the one day stuff but I think his game is so far advanced it time ENgland just picked there best side or they continue short changing the poor England fans traveling
-
Why is Kieswetter in the England team? From what I've seen of him recently, his keeping has been rubbish and his batting has been worse. Why no Prior? Or why not give the gloves to Buttler or Bairstow and play an extra batsman or allrounder, like Sri Lanka and New Zealand do by playing Sangakkara and McCullem as keepers?
-
Heck I would select OA Shah over Ravi Bopara, anyone with me?
-
I cant believe I will be supporting the Aussie today :( Never thought I would see the day...And hoping that South Africa smash India..
-
How much has Mitchell Starc come on recently he looks class act in this form now, out performing Pat Cummins comfortably.
-
Hmmm...interesting scenario now! Pakistan look as though they will win their match against Aus, which will put SA out I believe. BUT Aus have to really score 112 total to ensure that they get through to the Semis for sure.
But they are 68/5 off 14 overs. 6 overs left and need 44 runs to qualify! By no means straight forward!
-
Aussie's let me down...But lets face it SA dont deserve to make it through... So that leaves the best and 2nd best teams in the world out of the comp.. ;)
-
Faf du Plessis doing Pakistan a great favour.
Such a shame we didn't have him down at Taunton.
-
There go India....

Tough luck for India to be honest, I do feel they were unlucky at times.
Poor Dhoni will get all blame now

If you don't win then you can't complain.. especially in such a competitive group...India never really had the bowling to last the lenght of the tourny anyways...
-

Just goes to show that the IPL does not a winning international t20 team make. Personally I thought India were nearly as bad as England, although they at least had batting...
-
Concur you two, BCCI should really sit down and answer one question "Is IPL really benefitting us?" India has done poor and worst in world cup ever since IPL was conceived. They should starve to improve Indian cricket not their bank accounts.
-
Poor Dhoni will get all blame now
Really? Indian fans were going mental on Facebook and Twitter blaming Australia for losing to Pakistan. That's right - it's Australia's fault India went out. :-[

No Its Australia's fault SA went out. If they had won SA would have played a little better and beaten India and knocked out Pakistan.. ;) thats my story and Im sticking to it..
We all know SA were crap as were India and deserve not to be in the the semi's..
COME ON THE ISLAND BOYS.. :)
-
I've watched the IPL for a few years now and in the most part the 4 overseas make a huge difference to the team. They normally provide 2/5ths or more of the bowling, quite often the new ball bowlers. They are normally the best fielders and catchers in the team. Both these areas Indian aren't blessed and you can't rely on your batting to bail you out time after time. In that way the IPL doesn't help, watch how many overseas play in the champions league for IPL teams if you need further evidence of the reliance they have for key roles.
England are a young team and without KP this was a WC too early. I reckon we were 3/5 years younger than nearly every team in the comp and it showed.
-
No Its Australia's fault SA went out.
Because we spanked you? :D

Was watching Indian news channels covering cricket and all were pointing fingers at Dhoni, his captaincy etc
-
Anyone watching England's women trouncing all before them? :D
We are an AWESOME women's cricket team! :D Colvin bowling great, Shrubsole looking quite pacy, Brunt too.....I like watching womens cricket....it's more like the level I play at these days!
they have interesting kit as well....Chase, MG2, Newbery etc....nice to see for a kit nerd!
-
Looking forward to seeing Sarah Taylor bat later on!!

I could watch her all day! Awesome player as well..... ;)
-
Good wheels from Browne!!
-
At the risk of speaking too soon England look to have this nicely wrapped up. Sarah Taylor looks a class apart from everyone else. She really is a top player.....
-
And nice to see some Chase kit and bat in view from Brindle! All good exposure! ;)
-
Good win for England....! Well done girls... :D
Was just thinking how good the Chase gear looked on TV ;) Very classy...
-
Taylor looks an awesome keeper!!! Just watched some of her takes and movement! :o
She bats brilliantly too!! The Gilchrist of womens' cricket?
-
Wallllllllloooooppppppp
Great thinking George bailey bowling Doherty last over against gayle and pollard
-
carnage!!!
-
Game over. those who fancied WI for the title from the start could be right!
-
I can just picture doherties face when he was thrown ball with those two in just thinking
Oh crap
-
Off on a tangent a bit but are there any rules regarding taping up your bowling fingers a la Samuels? He's got most of the fingers on his bowling hand Elastoplast taped towards the tips of the fingers and below the knuckle which is surely going to assist his purchase on the ball in the humid conditions.
-
How he's still bowling is beyond me, Nasser was saying that its impossible to bowl the speeds he does, with the run up he's got and not throw it.
Thanks for coming Dave Hussey....
-
Dave Hussey had a 'mare!! Thanks for everything Dave but that's it for you I think!!
Bailey looks like he's batting for his international career as well.....doing a good job at the moment..
-
My boys already got this game in the bag 8) well batted George Bailey and please for the love of god use Russell as a batsman, does it much better than his bowling. Tournament is ours as long as Gayle does his job.
-
Don't know if its all ready been posted but has anyone seen pat cummins' new balance gear? I knew they were making boots but not the whole lot.

I quite like it reminds me of me after a few shandys

I believe it has something to do with 'Gangnam style' or something....Chris Gayle seems to be the instigator but he manages to lose all of his 'cool' almost immediately when he starts.....

I prefer miss Wyatt's version..
-
I could dig that ;)
-
Btw, what a genuinely nice guy Bailey is. Kept his chin up and was smiling all through the game. Very gracious in the postmatch interview as well.
What a contrast to the other "punter" ...
-
Unbelievable hittiing from the Windies and nice to see some Calypso cricket again.
Im adament that if Sri Lanka get Gayle early then Bravo and Samuels wont have the condidence to bat as they did today. The SL spinners just keep coming at you. Sundays final will be something special.
-
Booyaka!!!
Come on Windies
-
Just me or did pollards flat six have a touch of viv about it?
-
Woooo hoooo Aussie women world champs
-
Fair to say Sri Lanka turned up ready..

This is just like watching my village team on a Wednesday evening!

The batting or the bowling? Cause the bowling has been awesome so far...

Shocker from Taufel, maybe it is a good job he's retiring

Thats nonsense, there hasnt been a better Umpire in the last 10 years.
-
It appears that Samuels is using a 5 grained bat, mmm.
-
The batting or the bowling? Cause the bowling has been awesome so far...
Batting i'm sorry to say. Think they'll find defending 110ish much more difficult though.
Gutted Russell didn't get any as he played for my saturday side a few years ago and took most teams apart with bat and ball in the Worcester League.
-
Thats nonsense, there hasnt been a better Umpire in the last 10 years.
Didn't say he was a bad umpire, bravo middled it into his leg. Rubbish decision
-
Didn't say he was a bad umpire, bravo middled it into his leg. Rubbish decision
Everyone makes bad decisions, this one just happened to be in the final, and a vital finisher for the Windies.
Definitely wasn't out though lol
-
What a jaffa from Rampaul!
-
despite SL loading the wicket in there favour it looks like the Windies are going to wrap this up. Serves SL right and the ICC ought to be having words about preparing a spinning top for a major final.
-
My team came through in the end, always said they wood despite all the doubters at school!
-
Overall I think West Indies is best team to win, they truly deserved a glory considering the turmoil they were in past few years.
Still wish it should have came under a better captain than Darren Sammy.
But congrats to them, happy to see them win.
I do feel bad for Sri Lanka though, 4th world cup final loss since 2007.
-
I rate Sammy as a cricketer, he is one of those guys who looks innocuous but somehow manages to contribute to the cause. he must have good man management skills to be able to get everybody behind him.
-
It's been a long time coming, but Windies top of the world.
-

Bit of a harsh call considering there were 10 games played there over the last 7 days. What else would you expect? A 1st day test wicket?
-
The wicket certainly wasn't befitting of a World Cup final.
-

Agreed
-

You are asking for trouble if you play 7 in 10 days! Maybe for the semi's/finals they could've used a fresh strip? The early decks were far better, offering a bit to seamers/spinners alike and also the ball coming onto the bat.
-
I find it funny how Sri Lanka made spin-tops to assist themselves and little did they know "what goes around, comes around"
So there plan backfired them
-
Absolutely shattered to see Sri Lanka lose another World Cup final :(. Still so many great positives have come out from the tournament such as Dananjaya keeping his cool at the international level and the resurgence of Mendis. Great captaincy from Mahela as always dropping the best bowler from last game (Herath) and playing Dananjaya the 19 year old who bowled superbly. He backed Malinga to deliver and a rare big lapse from him. The Dilshan wicket was crucial without him it's considerably harder for Sri Lanka to get off to a good start. Can't help but feel pleased knowing that even if Sri Lanka didn't win it went to a deserving team, great to see the West Indies team celebrating and being in high spirits. Unfortunately it seems as though Jayawardene, Sangakkara and Dilshan won't ever end up on a winning world cup team.
-
Haha England would have a seam friendly pitch, India, sl and Pakistan would have a spinning top and Australia would have a hard bouncy track.
Noone prepares the pitch for the opposition.
-
Nor should they but if you are hosting a major tournament then you have to provide a surface fitting of the occasion.
-
There were cheerleaders, fireworks, a match fixer, a stand in captain who helped work around an over rate ban (who also won the spirit of cricket award) and a shonkily organised group system in a T20 competition.
Pretty sure a matt, fixed to the ground by upside down stubbies would have been perfectly befitting of the occasion lol.
-
I don't think they intended make spin track, SL doesn't have great spinners since Murali retired. Mendis and Akila relies more on variations than spin. I think it's ok to have a bowler friendly pitch, makes things interesting. It's a bit boring if the bat dominates the game. It's not like it was an impossible pitch to bat on, Samuels showed how, be patient and get used to the pitch and you can capitalize. Out of top ten wicket takers in the tournament 5 were spinners and the other 5 fast bowlers. So can't say that's unfair. Each cricket playing nation have a unique pitch profile, for example Ausie wickets will always be green and pace friendly, Indian tracks will be flat and batting friendly, etc. I think that just give cricket it's character and uniqueness that other sports can't claim.
