Title: Big Bash #2
Post by: The_Bird on December 08, 2012, 08:00:05 PM
So pleased this is on Sky, waking up to live cricket every morning is so good!!

Flashing Stumps & Bails are a great idea, and the umpire cam is brilliant. Luke Wright looked impressive the other night and The Sixers look to've carried their T20 CL form into the competition. Not much Aussie frontline bowling as they are all injured or rested so expect some huge scores!

Yeah I went to the Stars vs Renegades game the other night, was a pretty entertaining game. Reckon the Renegades could have done a bit more in the way of entertainment off the field but I didn't go for the that, I went for the cricket and it was pretty good. Finch was at his destructive best and Warne....  :o Looks like someone won't be making an Ashes return!

Aaron Finch strikes a clean ball!

Couldn't believe it when i saw the game in the Etihad Stadium (normally used for AFL and 'soccer') I lived in an apartment that looked down onto the pitch for a year, never had any cricket on when i was there!

I mostly headed in the other direction if i'm honest, down to the Casino. Plenty of walks home were abandoned at Southern Cross station, usually ending with me asleep in the train carriages....

Saw a boxing day test there, ridiculous atmosphere.

I would think it was a great atmosphere in Etihad for a cricket game, i had plenty of decent nights at the AFL in there.

who likes a bit of D/L?

BBL blushes after controversial Stars win

Melbourne Stars were controversially declared winners by D/L method after batting for only 2.1 overs © Getty Images

Matches: Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Stars at Perth

Big Bash League officials were forced to clarify the match result from Wednesday night's second round clash at the WACA after confusion clouded the Melbourne Stars 10-wicket win under the Duckworth/Lewis method over the Perth Scorchers.

"The KFC T20 Big Bash League has received a lot of enquiries and there's been much interest in how the outcome of last night's match between the Scorchers and Stars was reached and we'd like to address any confusion," BBL's Mike McKenna said. "We have spent today briefing many stakeholders about the result and the rules surrounding rain-affected matches."

One of those stakeholders was Scorchers coach Justin Langer, who had earlier flagged a discussion with BBL officials. "The result was probably fair because we played so poorly. But at the end of the day the process was unusual," Langer said. "We will be taking it up with Cricket Australia, the process side of it. It was a bit of a farce in the end."

WACA chief executive Christina Matthews wrote to Cricket Australia on behalf of the Scorchers side, as did Paul Marsh, CEO of the Australian Cricketers Association.

The match finished in extraordinary circumstances. The Stars were 0 for 29 after just two overs in pursuit of the Scorchers' record-low score of 69 when heavy rain halted play at 6.39 pm local time. As was explained by the umpires on the night, the BBL statement confirmed that another three overs of play were required to constitute a match. Play needed to resume at 7.51pm local time for those three overs to be bowled in time.

The rain stopped, as if by royal decree from Stars captain, spin king, Shane Warne. The umpires completed a field inspection at 7.35pm, deemed it fit for play, and rescheduled the match to start at 7.51pm. Both teams were notified. One Scorchers squad member suggested post-match that there was "no way the field was fit for play."

Under the Duckworth/Lewis method the target for the Stars was recalculated. The calculation, which itself has been disputed, ensured that the Stars required just six runs from five overs. Even though the Stars had already reached and exceeded the target, given the D/L target had changed when overs were lost play needed to resume to set the revised target

Play resumed at 7.52pm after a minor delay. Hilton Cartwright bowled one ball to Rob Quiney, who allowed it to pass through to the keeper, and the match was over as the Stars had reached their revised target after 2.1 overs.

The BBL statement referred to clause 12.6.2 b (iii) of the playing conditions, "To constitute a match, a minimum of 5 overs have to be bowled to the team batting second subject to a result not being achieved earlier." League officials were adamant the correct processes had been followed.

Despite the official clarification reports emerged that coaches and players from elsewhere in the BBL were unhappy with the result given the importance of Warne, and the Stars, to the competition's success.

I don't see the problem, surely the target had been reduced to a 6 over target, and the 6 over target was 29, they just had to play one ball and they had won. Surely if the 6 over target had been 31 then no problem!

Must say I'm loving today's match with warne commentating on own bowling even commenting on how he's seen the batsmen tapping bat hard wanting to play shot so he'll pause at top of run to make him tap a few more times which he dually obliges

Plus calling what he's going to bowl then doing it

Yea a bit of spice agree on this...

Samuels grabbed Hussy like a soccer player lol never seen this shirt grabing in cricket .... Warnee was just reminding him the incident and pumping him up to throw his wicket heheheee

But the way he throwed bat towards Warneee was dangerous... another camera angle showed that the bat just missed Warne 8)

A couple of brain fades from Samuels, first he grabs hussey and then he throws his bat! Crazy...

But I reckon Warne was a bit over the top in his attempts to get under Samuels skin, some sort of confrontation was inevitable.

Still, it made for an entertaining few minutes :)

Hard to feel this competition has not been totally scripted to give Warne a send off.

First he manages only a one game suspension despite an aggressive profane tyrade while wearing a mI c, then his team (No Swearing Please) a victory from so far behind that not even salmon butt could have considered throwing it so he will be back for a final..........

Yeah, he is not exactly unique. If he stops performing or gets injured he could be replaced with little fuss and then he might fall away.
That being said, I've quite impressed by his first two test efforts.

At least CG is finally back in form, unfortunately he can only join Jamaica for their Caribbean T20 campaign if someone gets injured and he replaces them much like what he did when dirk nannes got injured for RCB in 2011. Only a matter of time before one of the Jamaican batsman mysteriously gets injured. ;)

Warne really messed up there. Not bowling himself and making the rookie do it seemed to me like a senior player not prepared to take responsibility and messing up in the last over as he did wasn't great either. Who was the Stars 'keeper? Hoscombe? He made Akmal look decent.... :D

Warne couldn't of been given more chances in the last over, 1 dropped catch that cost 2 runs, 1 missed run out from the new Akmal and the bowler bowling a no-ball from the last ball of the game. Had he kept his foot behind, Stars would've been through.

Bookies at work again?

Technically Warne wasn't captain tonight, Faulkner was. Some nonsense about him being in danger of a ban because of slow over rates in past games and not wanting to risk that with a repeat tonight.

Yeah, both White and Warne had already received a warning, so rather than risk a ban Faulkner was named as captain. Clearly Warney was still in charge though.
Title: Re: Big Bash #2
Post by: Wedge2408 on January 16, 2013, 03:01:14 PM
Guess Warney has been called out on his decision to change the captain to avoid an over rate penalty, just saw this on espn cric-info.

" Shane Warne has been reported for breaching Cricket Australia's Code of Behaviour during the semi-final of the Big Bash League between Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers. The charge was laid because James Faulkner was named the Stars' official captain even though Warne was part of the team during their last-ball defeat at the WACA.

Warne was alleged to have breached Rule 5: Laws of Cricket and Spirit of the Game, after a memo had been sent to all the teams on December 5. Under the heading "Over Rates", the memo stated, "If a team's official captain is selected but not named as captain, this will be considered against the Spirit of Cricket and may attract a Code of Behaviour charge."

In the semi-final, Faulkner was listed as the Stars' captain on the team sheet and went out to toss. Warne, the Stars' official captain, had previously been warned for a slow over-rate violation. A second offence in the semi-final would have led to Warne being suspended for the final.

The time and date of the hearing is yet to be determined"

Warne has had a pretty disappointing couple of weeks to end the Big Bash..

yeah aslong as you know a certain type of bookie. no way you could pop into your local william hill and say ill have £50 on a front foot no ball and fielding restriction no ball to be bowled on the last ball of the innings. add into the mix they need 3 to win off 1 ball and you would probably get laughed out of the place.

The Final starts shortly. The Heat to bat first, which seems a good decision in my opinion. With Pomersbach's current form you would back yourself to put up a big score.

What are peoples thoughts, who will win? Who do they want to win?
