Looks like the league season starts on 11th May for Clubs playing in the Surrey Championship. Fixtures have just been released. Can't believe how near, yet how far the season is!

I've done my back in at the first training session. Chiropractors on Monday instead of nets. Great.

back to nets tonight after a valentines day break. Hopefully get a bat. Maybe take a hit on the lid as the arytek will be on, so im going to hit everything (with my bat or my body!)

We start the third week of April.
I think I've already clocked-up 20hrs of nets already!
We started in November. A lot of us get bored waiting!

You're the same as me, Eddie! I wouldn't do any sport in the winter if I didn't net. I'm concentrating on my batting this season and have had to tell all the captains that I have 'retired' from bowling so I can get a slot at the right end of the batting order!

I have friendlies on the 7th, 13th & 14th of April, then into the first league game on the 20th April.
Saturday league fixtures all the way through to September the 14th, with a few Sunday league games and friendlies after that, it's gonna be a long old season!

Gutted that I have booked a trip to london on the 19th meaning I miss the first weekend of cricket.
Unless anyone has a friendly game on sunday that would be finished around 5 and would lend me kit (I would provide my own whites, also im naff)

Wiltshire league starts beginning of May. Just had an email from the chairman saying they hope outdoor nets can start after Easter. Might bring the snow shovel to that session.

My season supposedly starts on the 20th of April in the South Yorkshire cricket alliance. Very doubtful though considering I've just shifted over a foot of snow off my driveway in Sheffield and more is forecast next week. Our ground doesn't drain we'll so when all this snow melts it'll flood.

Good Friday is our last net session then our 1st XI have their first game about three weeks after that, away on the Isle of Wight. The rest of us, not so good players, start our pre season a week or two after that.
With the non stop rain we're having at the moment we'll be lucky to get a pitch dry enough to play on though :(

Nets until end of April, then an inter-club T20 on 1st May followed by first games that weekend.
Due to work commitments and annual leave, I only had my first net last week - and it felt like 7 months without a hit!

Norfolk Alliance fixtures begin first week in May, but we'll have a few games beforehand. This winter has seemed to go on forever, just hoping that we have a nice long, hot summer.

We used to have walk on and off music and music when a boundary was hit for our inter club games, until somebody from the houses behind the ground complained about the noise and the police turned up :(

It was a high quality setup, used a couple of the big speakers you'd use for a stereo system at home plugged into an iPod. Worked quite well but there were wires everywhere

your not wrong! when i got into the 90's they got the opening bowler back on and he was decent so didnt realy have to many bad balls so just worked the 1's.

Got our final pre season friendly lined up tomorrow. Away at Norfolk Premier League side Stow CC.
Lovely ground, great setting, top deck, topped off by a huge ancient tree in the covers.

couple of handy ct behinds and 56 to start. Just annoyed at not going on. Possibly the coldest day of cricket I have ever played also!

Season is off to a flyer so far, just got back from barbados yesterday with my school, came back with a record of 1 win and 3 losses, but we did play some brilliant cricket, and deserved an even record I think. We played the barbados national champions, and a club with 4 players in the west indies set up including fidel edwards' cousin (he was extremely sharp to say the least).
Personally came back with 8 wickets and 1 50, so well happy :)

1st game today lost toss on green seamer batted 1st bowled out for 131
i top scored with 32 then bowled them out for 67
good start for me & team happy enough with gentle warm up win

Not the greatest start when you get run out after about 10 balls in the middle, direct hit from backward point. Don't think I lost the Christmas weight fast enough!

Had my first game of the year today all be it on a sticky two paced track, although it was a little better in the 2nd innings.
2 catches and a stumping and 45 no, solid start and looking foward to more days like today weather wise.

played a friendly yesterday at Nelson CC, bowled first and kept them to 115-8, knocked them off 3 down in 30 ish overs
dull miserable windy day, poor wicket, crap tea's. 1 stumping, nearly got hit with a beamer then got out next ball trying to smash the bowler into space, boring cricket match, not really got me excited for the season bearing in mind I'm on the cusp of being dropped into the 2's and its due to rain all week

Played against Godolphin racing yesterday, we posted 200 and bowled them out for 150, wicket was wetter than an otters pocket

Here we go :D the big weekend approaches. Guess what got called off tomorrow due to rain though... Not a good Omen for the coming weekend. Fingers crossed and some good old English optimism could be required, maybe a sun dance and we could get two games at the weekend.

Was good watching you field against the u15's simmy. Shame I didn't see you bat.
Played our first team last Sunday, they batted first and scored 184 in 35 overs. We then knocked them off in the last over. Very good effort against a very good 1st eleven. Just glad they didn't have their SA pro and two opening bowlers who both are on county & international duty.

That's two weeks I've jumped from the 4s to the 1s and two weeks the game has been cancelled. If I'm lucky I'll get a game for the 4s but would have liked to test myself at a higher level, wondering if the season will ever start at this rate :(

had a my first game of the season today that was a friendly. Opened the bowling and I bowled the best I have ever bowled and was really hitting the deck hard. Was getting a lot of movement of the seam today and it really was causing batsmen problems. Bowled a few absolute peaches because of it. Ended up taking A career best of 6/23 of 7 overs and got a two wicket maiden in my first over. Also finished the game for us with the batting as I came in we needed 8 of 3. Managed to hit two classy fours over the bowlers head that were pretty well hit! Overall a good day

Had first game of the season today. A friendly for North Weald (not my usual team but our Sunday captain plays for them and were short a man). Turned up late after playing in a football tournament this morning, went into bat at 10 and hit 18 no. Used my BB today for first time in a match, seriously impressed! Hit 3 4s which I just didn't even feel come out of the bat. Didn't feel a thing from the handle, times them well but didn't put too much power in and they just raced away to boundary. I was dying by the end, legs were cramping after 5 hours of football. Was awesome just to be playing cricket in the sun! Even managed to get sunburnt! All in all a good start to the season. Bring on next week

Had a friendly today which I think the oppo took a bit more seriously than us. They got 159-6 in 45, mainly through some sharing around of the bowling. Could've easily closed them out for 120 but were trying to get everybody some overs. We rather limped to 98ao in 45. A slow wicket that seemed to get a bit more variable as the game progressed didn't help but we were a bit rusty. Bowled a tidy 8 overs for 19, could've been better but not terrible. Scored 10 and didn't look like getting out until I got a jaffa of a leg cutter, in truth my foot movement was a bit lazy. Plenty to work on with both bat and ball.
Many thanks to Pete Hosk for playing at the last minute. Bit unlucky to be out bowled off the pad but played his part :D

Enjoyed it thanks Nick. Was a game played in good spirit but you're right....they seemed to have more to prove! Your team are a decent bunch and the wicket did get worst and with the outfield slowing all the shots down made things worst. But that's cricket in April for you. The sun was shining and it was warm and more importantly the tea was superb! 8)
And my dismissal was unlucky but I guess everyone gets out in an unlucky way a couple of times in a season.....so at least I've got this one out of the way.
You looked set fella, but the wicket was doing strange things once it dried out.

first game of the season, we won but i only got 3 opening before nicking off and kept like a ****. Have a feeling opening the batting and captaining is really going to effect my keeping this season

Played, won. Good Result. We made 244 on a tough wicket, so everyone chipped in, got 42 then got out, annoying after doing all the hard work.
Then we nipped them out for 127.

As in other thread we won but tough game 195-8 played 196-8 we won off last ball needing 2 off it and our no 10 hit a 4

Chased leather for 45 overs while they racked up 270-4, we we're 98 all out, got 13 before given out lbw to a offspinner, felt good, was never out, but us batsman never are!

Played on a very flat track yesterday with surprising quick outfield for April judging by the grass burns on my knees. Opposition got 230ish for 7 in the end it has to be said we were very rusty (our captain shelled 6 catches - must admit I got the teapot out as 3 were off me).
Looked forward to a good chase as our openers put on 100 off 21 overs before both retiring (friendly), unfortunately our No.3 & 4 both then proceeded to play the ball like the opposition were bowling hand grenades so put on 30 off the next 16 overs before again both retiring - not amused as I went in 5 for 3 overs! Still found the boundary a couple of times off 7 balls.
Really strange game but pre season friendlys are all about shaking the rust off!

Managed to bat out for a draw. 5 drops and 4 batsmen getting out to full tosses! 1st game rustiness at its finest. The 'last hour' also ended up being at least an hour and a half. 37 balls, 34 dots. ;)

winning draw in our first league game yesterday 271 played 230/9 on an april road. made 13 not out off six balls. Followed it up with a Sunday friendly win chasing down 240 in 35 overs, I ended up 139 not out against a pretty poor attack but nice to get a big score early season. Not sure the tracks i have played on this weekend have been very April like though!

Played a 40 over game today. Track was slow but not too low. Oppo were made up of a Sri lanken players living in East London, and most were decent players.
We fielded 1st and the 2 openers looked very good until one nipped back and bowled him and the number 2 started to try and hit everything out of sight. We bowled them out for 114 with myself having 2 overs 1 wicket for 4 runs. We knocked it off in around 25 overs for 3 wickets. Good performance by all. Alot more training required for next weeks cup game.

They tried a beamer and short ball directed at his face which was smacked out of the ground. We won by 90 runs , I bowled 9 overs for 21 runs and a wicket. They then disgracefully commented on Facebook that we were a bunch of taxi drivers and tea tasters. How very friendly !

So Sunday saw me opening for my new club against my sort of old club. I've never been more unhappy at how cricket is played as I was on Sunday. Abuse, not stop nasty comments. Trouble is to some its acceptable banter but to me it crossed the line.
I have to say I was very disappointed to see the other side of a team I've been in and thought were 'good' guys.

Thats awful mate, same with the Blazer's earlier post. I'm all for playing competitively and want to win every game begrudging every run scored but I have a laugh even with the oppo and I really don't believe there is a place for this type of behaviour on a cricket field.

Club match: Treated it like an open net and hit 47* felt pretty good batting, and took a couple wickets too
40 over game: Against WEPL champions Bridgwater (albeit a mix of 1's and 2's, as was our side) they hit 235-7, we chased them down 5 down. I hit 92 from 47 balls, was seeing it quite well! Wasn't too gutted to miss out on a ton as any preseason run is a bonus!

top effort Ian, good to get some early runs and 97 on a an april track is not done easily......however, the fact it came off 47 balls tells me you didnt spend time playing yourself in and that you must have been seeing it pretty blo0dy well!

Well - managed to get a game in yesterday, a friendly for our 2ndXI against local team Pyrford. We were a mixture of hardened 2's players, fatties and 14 yr old lads so it was going to be interesting - particularly as when we arrived they were hurtling around hurling a ball at a single stump and throwing themselves into leaping catches.
Anyway, through several hailstorms we kept them down to 200 all out, with yours truly bowling loopy swingers and dribbly seamers at the death! I bowled 5-2-12-2 and was really chuffed, seeing as I have been yipping in the nets and barely able to land a ball.
We then fell short in the chase to 180 all out with 2 overs to go - yours truly facing one ball for a red-inker, drilled past the bowler for 4.
So I have a strike-rate of 400.00 - IPL here we come!

Had my first game of the season yesterday. Our league starts next week so just a friendly...
They got 217-8, Nick Saunders picked up 2-14 and I got 1-18
We finished on 120odd - 4. Having been 0-2 off 5 we decided to shut up shop and play for time in the middle.
I got 65 not out

1st league game of the season yesterday and we got off to a good start for a change.
After i lost the toss, we were put in to bat and posted 196 all out - our opener batted all the way through for 120.
Managed to bowl them out for 135. The game could have gone in their favour, but once we got the top 5 out were comfortable. They did look to pick up points for the losing draw and it went right to last ball.
I was bowling the last over, and couldnt budge them until i accidentally bowled a rank half tracker for the final ball - the batsmen tried getting over the top of it, it bounced at his feet and trickled on to the stumps. Finished with 4 for 23 but figures are a lot kinder than how i actually bowled.

Won, we got 150 off our 50 and bowled them out for 100 on a very poor deck, I managed to get a royler, LBW to their pro, never go back to a spinner in April!

Am feeling the 13 over spell yesterday even if it is medium trundlers these days, still can't complain with 3 for 26 and the majority of the points (least said about my batting the better).

First friendly for us yesterday got abandoned half way through the second innings due to rain. Interesting mix of sun, wind, rain and hail during the match too. We were looking like losing anyway as were 93-5 with 17 overs left chasing 222. I was on 36* so fairly happy with that and kept ok too picking up a couple of stumpings.
First over of the day was amazing, new guy making his debut for us bowled 14 wides and 6 dots for a 20 ball over. The oppo scorer must have been livid!

Been to watch my son play at Taunton School today. Fantastic facilities but absolutely freezing cold. Not pleasant watching conditions.

Played against possibly the thickest eleven players I have ever played against this weekend.
They got 245 - 4 off 46.
We were 223 - 8 off 49.
Banter/sledging/abuse was absolutely terrible from the side, there's a difference between sledging and abuse, and they used the later. Trying to bully our batsmen out, luckily I've been called fatty for a while now and it only makes me more determined not to get out. Nice 22 not out for me at the end of the innings.

dnb first week.. 31 against last years prem champions Lytham (were a league below) .. got kindly asked to open the batting in the middle of the week when i was at 9 the week before.. cheers skip !

120 all out today. 16 off about 15 overs for me opening up. Took a slip catch, so I'd say that was an alright debut!

7 overs, 4 maidens, 7 runs, 1 wicket. Not a bad opening spell. They chased down our 103 easily. I got ran out on 5 with a big dive which has done me some damage

Well today we played 30 overs a side, we batted first and I was in 7th ball, great! I then batted the remaining 29 overs and carrying my bat for 49 not out. Went into the last over not knowing what I was on, called for the Mongoose, faced 2 balls, both wides that we ran off and was left stranded! But good to get some time in the middle on grass. We hit 142-8.
They (my Sunday team) good off to a very good start. Only 2 bowlers managed to find any rhythm. They knocked it off 4 down with 4 overs left. I took 2-26 from 6 including my dad plumb lbw, beat him for pace ;)

Played two, won two, should do very well judging what we have faced so far in our new league.
After a long winter full of practice I now need to play well, instead I got my first ever golden duck, first ball of the innings.

So far had a couple of 2 fers bowling (yesterday was my 1st XI debut against a side in Southern Electric Premier league so was pleased with that).
Made scores of 8, 5, 2* and 10 (average of 8.33) so far, hopefully I find some form with the bat to go with my bowling soon!

How've you broken two Distinctions?
One is a 2010 model and i digged out an inswinger yorker which split the inside edge
Then the new one i have lent it to some young kid to face 60 mph on the bowling machine and when he came out there is a large horizontal crack across the toe and up the outside edge! No toe guard on that one, i think he hit two short ones on the end of the toe!!

Got my first decent score of the season today with a nice 56, shame it was in a losing cause, they got 119 on a absolute green top seaming all over the place. We were all out for 109 so close but only playing for my old Sunday side which was nice to play a proper game of friendly cricket although don't think there opener knew it was a friendly. Decent lick of pace and a fair few sledges, snarls and growls but kept me on my toe.
Used my Hammer ST and it goes very very well.

Bowling hasn't been much better, must have an economy of about 7 and only 4 wickets to show for it. Went for 26 in 3 overs today but had the batsman backing off to square leg and kept edging it over slips or through square leg.

decent enough weekend, League cup game saturday lost by 1 run chasing 185 which was a decent effort given we were 28-0 off 20 overs (40 over game). Took two catches and two run outs behind the stumps plus 8 of 7 balls coming in at 8.
Played today took 3 catches and opened and scored 77. chased down 225 with a ball to spare 8 down.
Two really good games and some runs/catches so cant complain really.

Saturday batted 6 instead of opening scored 5*, Bowled 10-3-24-3 with two drops but not the end of the world.

I have had a good start with the ball, Finding batting difficult as the pitches have been slow.

Actually feel in pretty good nick at the moment, though the scores have been fairly average - 17, 36, 52, 65, 41, 41, 30 is nothing spectacular, though I'd defy anyone to score too highly on some of the wickets we've had to brave!

Missed our friendlies because of football and then had to miss our first game. Played on Saturday and was down to bat 5. Rain came so we had to score their 140 in 20 less overs than they had so was bumped down to 6. We knocked them off in our last over 3 down so was a good win.

I've played 3 games so far with my new club, 2 league games and a cup game. First game i got 2 runs and bowled 6 overs, 3 for 18 and Sunday's cup game got 6 runs and caught behind off from my bat hitting my pad (i was a little frustrated in the decision). Last Saturday i bowled the last 5 overs, 1 wicket for 17 runs and got 48 runs, was caught on the deep long off boundary.
2 wins out of 3 isn't a bad start to the season.

Game 1 batted as bad as I ever have 15 off 67 balls in context not too bad got stumped off the worst bowler in the world rk... Kept ok rusty one decent diving catch no byes 2 catches
Game 2 65 off 80 balls with the b3 jt bat felt more power through a fuller figure batted well should have gone on caught trying to reverse sweep a quick
Uneven wicket kept ok 2 catches and 2 stumpings quite happy with it we won both games with is more important than any parts..

Epically failed yesterday. Got a mighty 3. Chipped up a dolly to mid on off a leg stump full toss that I tried to whack to mid wicket. Funny how you can feel really good batting one week and awful the next. Bring on first league game of the season on Saturday though eh! Cant wait. Beginning to dread first league game as something has got to go wrong soon. Today, mashed my first ball straight to midwicket only for the guy to shell it for four, nicked second to slip only for the lad to have inexplicably gone quite a lot wider and bowled off a no ball on 20. Think my 77 should read 77 all out!!!

Hah, i remember the days of second and third team cricket in my teens, asking the skipper what the bowler was going to bowl, and trying to work out where to stand. Nightmare! Much easier being a gloveman to a consistent bowling attack

Dropped into the 2's on saturday, got a 8 ball duck, then back into the 1's for National cup on sunday but not as a keeper. Played Hanging Heaton who racked up 280, I was suprisingly asked to bowl after a winter of bowling some gentle off-spin in nets, picked up 3-55 off 8 overs, not the greatest economy, but with a ridiculously wet ball and some decent batsmen, its safe to say I suprised a few people, broke a big partnership and took a good catch.
Now there's talk of me hanging up the gloves for a bit, and being asked to bowl regularly potentially in the 1's this weekend. Always wanted to be a spinner and may finally be getting a shot, love throwing myself around in the field aswell. So after 2 ducks in 2 weeks, things are starting to look up again and I am very excited to get bowling

Its been tough for the friendlies, thats for sure. We were getting four sides out this time last year and scratched around for three this time last week - a combination of local sides still having some meaningful football to play (Chelski, Brentford, Palace, Fulham) and a few eople not wanting to start in the cold, I suspect.

I played in our first game last Saturday for our 3rds. There was 5 adults and 6 kids around 14 years old. A part from our Captain the kids out played the rest of us. I really enjoyed playing with them. Even better when we managed to win :)

Made scores of 8, 5, 2* and 10 (average of 8.33) so far, hopefully I find some form with the bat to go with my bowling soon!

Played twice at the weekend. On the Saturday, managed to get 51 and then retired. Then on the Sunday, shoulder and armed at one which took out my off-stump for nothing, managed to take 1-23 from 10 overs though with my first proper bowl outside, got some good pace out of a slow-low wicket.

First T20 yesterday, another this evening and 40 over at the weekend.
Last night the bespoke B3 made its debut, successfully, and a teammate had a gem of a VSports bespoke blade, fully knocked in and sounding great. Its owner and teammate of mine is a butcher and he has known them for years. He provides them with marrowbones that they shape the bat face with!
Another teammate had a brand new V360. Sadly, unlike the V Sports and B3 owners, he'd neglected to knock it in. Aprx half way through his innings of 40no, it cracked at the edge...

Had my first game of the season last night, was only a 20/20(with retire at 25) but it is still better than nets. Bowled terrible going for 20 odd off two overs as they ended up on 135 off 20 overs. Came in at 50 odd for 1 off 9 and smashed a quick fire 27 not out and retiring with the score on 104 off 14 overs and eventually we won with 4 balls to spare. Didn't time the ball particularly well but was nice to get some decent runs with the bat including my first six of the season! Now looking forward to first league of the season on Saturday followed by a friendly on Sunday.

I've been given the nod for the weekend, fingers crossed it'll be dry as all the warm up matches were called off due to dodgy pitches and the opposition crying off. Good chance I could be keeping which means I won't be walking properly till about Thursday!

I'm sat in A&E currently waiting for stitches for my thumb webbing. Went to minor injuries but they couldn't sort it there. I must look like a right idiot sat in my bloodied whites and brown boots. I barely made drinks in my first game this season. Anyone know how long I'm likely to be out, week/s, or more?

So today was my first league game for my new club and it wasn't the easiest of conditions to play. There was a really blustery cross wind that made bowling tough but amongst the multitude of wides there was the odd ball that was reminiscent of Waqar Younis. We got 175-5 and skittled them for 80. Unfortunately I got one of those 'unplayable magic balls' early on for a duck but bowled ok and took 2-10. Think we might have a shout for promotion this year if we play well.
Tea: Excellent. Hot pizza, spicy chicken wraps, pasta, cous cous, fresh fruit

202 for 9 for us, 33 for me off about 11 balls then played a daft shot when I should have gone on and cashed in during the last 5 overs. Bowled them out for 38, I due to have a bowl but wasn't needed. They batted like they were on a suicide mission, our spinner got 7 wickets including a hat trick to win the game, 2 bad run outs and at one stage I think they were 8 for 4.

We turned up today with 8 players. Fielded first (which is f*****g hard work with 8 people) and they scored 237 all out. Opened the batting, scored 26. Should have gone on to get a big score after getting in. Ran out our captain too...oops. They got us out for 161.

First league game of the season we hot 234, i opened and got a nice 60 before chipping the off spiner to mid on. Bowled them out for 136. There were 3 of the best catches i have seen in 15 years of cricket today from our team absolute stunning catches all of them.
The standard of fielding all round today from both sides was top notch a great show of what premier league cricket is all about. All round great game of cricket

Got beat by Tom's lot today by 5 wickets. Massively disappointed as my team seemed to have given up when we were still in it. I managed a not very pretty/quite lucky 77 before being caught and got one catch myself. Wonder if Tom can feel his leg now?

I'm In pieces mate, got cramp marking my guard before facing a ball! Hamstring through to calf then in both legs...lesson learnt don't play after 20 hours travelling and 12.5 hour flight.

Put opposition in to bat -they posted 264 after a long 46 overs. We ended up about 190-4 and picked up a few points out with an encouraging team performance after our heads had dropped.
Did tell the oppo skipper they had scored too many - if they had set 220 it could gave been a different game for us

Knocked then off whilst loosing 4 wickets on a tricky swinger but won comfortably. Still unbeaten, and Roco got a golden whilst his team (league favourites) got walloped.

3 wins out of 3, they got 190, with one guy using all his luck mixed with some good shots to get a ton, he was dropped at 30 and very dodgy umpiring not giving a straight forward edge to behind. Followed by two LBWs including mine that when I looked I was standing outside of leg.
We knocked off the runs with 3 balls left in the match, I got 48 and bowled 4 overs no wickets for 7 runs

All 3 of our teams won today so nice start to the season. In our game I managed a stodgy 55 in a total of 240 and then we restricted them to 215. Took the best catch of my life diving full length to remove their top scorerer at a point when they looked on top. Happy days :)
Our 2's racked up a massive 401-5 in their game which I am pretty sure is a club record too

Walked in at 140-7 with 13 overs left, managed to get us up to 205-7, 29*, equalling my PB (and mortified not to have beaten it), the other lad on 57* played and missed at the last 5 balls of the innings! Would have enjoyed a new top score!) Bowled them out for 110 or something, picked up 4-36 off 10. Decent day's work!

First game of the season and we beat the 2 times reigning champions. Bowled well but despite beating the outside more times than I can bare to remember I didn't get a wicket. During the drinks break after one especially good delivery one of the batsmen told me "that delivery would have got out far better batsmen than myself". Ended up with figures of 7-2-23-0 although 11 of those runs were conceded in one over! >:(
Came into bat requiring roughly 29 off 26 and ended up on 9* including a majestic cover drive for 4 to secure the win with an over to spare. Good start to the season although rather worrying that despite out 2nd's not having a game on Saturday we still struggled to find 11 players...

I'm more than gutted I missed out on the ton mate, didn't know what I was on, caught infront of the sight screen and it was going for 6. and our batting line up is that strong, we bat to number 10, all capable or scoring a few runs. I was 8.
Not to mention a pulled quadricep muscle all fun and games :/

Played in a friendly yesterday, I was 4th most senior player at 19, the rest were u15's. they posted 328, I got 1-55 off 12. Which were the best of the day so was pleased with myself. And we got rolled for 90, I scored 4 then got bowled trying to slap to cow

First league game of the season yesterday, had to settle with playing seconds as I had work commitments meaning I couldn't play away. Batted first and posted 194-5 on a good deck, I scored 52 and got bowled the second from last ball, batting at five. Then with the new cherry managed to pick up 3-18 from 8 overs with six maidens, amazingly no runs came off the bat, which included 3 wides that went for boundaries and a couple that sprayed on the off-side, due to the captain not obliging my plea for a fine leg. Felt really sharp and the ball was carrying around chest high to the keeper standing back, he was complaining how hard I was hitting the gloves, which gave me such a lift. Picked up 24 points, so very positive start!

We got off to a good start this season, looking to get promoted to division 1 of the Somerset league. Very stiff this morning having not trained in the off season. Personally I had 5-7 off 9 overs, take that considering last week I couldnt even pitch the ball. Also, it was nice to see DS bats in action and scoring the winning runs - that was a great feeling!!
Also, the wicket was rock hard and a pleasure to bat and bowl on....dont normally expect that in May!

We got off to a good start this season, looking to get promoted to division 1 of the Somerset league. Very stiff this morning having not trained in the off season. Personally I had 5-7 off 9 overs, take that considering last week I couldnt even pitch the ball. Also, it was nice to see DS bats in action and scoring the winning runs - that was a great feeling!!
Also, the wicket was rock hard and a pleasure to bat and bowl on....dont normally expect that in May!
Must be class seeing your bats in action and people enjoying using them mate :).

Played in a friendly yesterday, I was 4th most senior player at 19, the rest were u15's. they posted 328, I got 1-55 off 12. Which were the best of the day so was pleased with myself. And we got rolled for 90, I scored 4 then got bowled trying to slap to cow
Atleast they would be athletic in the field! Had almost the complete opposite situation on Saturday being the only player under 30. And at 17 I was well under half the average age of the team(which we worked out to be just over 41) which meant some very slow fielding...

Played again today, 3rd most senior this time. Opened the bowling took 3 for 14 off 7 with 4 maidens, had them 2-5 at one stage. Then has a few unlucky snicks that didn't go to hand and such

Had our first game today, scored 40. Most frustrating thing though was i said to myself this season i'm not going to play a cross batted shot, what happens! First time i play cross bat i get out...gutted to not go on and score a 50 but never mind. Bowled some off-spin and got 2-3 off two overs so not a bad start to the season!

Bowled first with 9 men, kept them to 159 after them being 63/0 off 10. 10-4-18-1 for me, picked up their big-dog who got 50. Then our openers put on 110, and I came out with 10 needed and got 5*. Decent weekend, 5 wickets, few runs, always nice!

42 off 30 balls today chasing a below par 179-9. We won with 15 overs left and 7 wickets remaining. I kept wicket for the first time this year, got a catch and stumping but missed another stumping and fluffed a run out opportunity. Only 4 byes though so not bad for a part timer

Batted nicely again Saturday but run out after on ball by a muppet yesterday - he hits the ball to midwicket, calls, runs four or five paces then stops and walks back to his crease. And then complains to our Chairman that I swore at him!

when I got given LBW Saturday by the oppo umpire, hit above the thigh pad, I said "you're f**king joking" pretty loudly for all to hear, but more in frustration to myself. Even the point fielder apologised as I walked off. Swearing is perfectly acceptable in my opinion lol

theres a limit to swearing, as nick said in that instance i think thats fine, but as long as its a short sweet sentance like that, ive known people go on a full rant "you dont know whaat your effing doing, your having an effing laugh, your an effing embaresement" and a few other in there that i cant remember fully. yep and that was in a league game but unfortunatly he is a footballer, and as we know those round ball pansies have no respect for officials, wheras myself being a rugby player, if a ref or umpire makes a bad decision you accept it then have a rant back in the changing rooms

lol - fair enough I was living on luck from my 3rd run onwards! Main thing is we collected the win, 214-9 v 160-8. Redders got a swift 34, I smeared 52 in very unconvincing fashion. They never really looked like chasing them down.

Along a similar vein, in the match on Saturday the opposition no. 11 got a very rough LBW from his own umpire, ball pitched on a good length and hit him on the thigh pad (and he was about 6' tall). Afterwards it was revealed that the umpire was getting a bit thirsty and didn't want to hang around.

Got bowled for 6, did my groin in my 2nd over so ended up 'keeping' to avoid moving too far (did take a catch) and got sunburnt today, all for an intra club friendly, I hate cricket sometimes! >:(

Since my last visit I've played 3 games:
Last Saturday- pre-season match vs Taunton CC, we hit 303-9 on a good wicket, I played some ok shots and some pretty loose stuff but managed 67 runs before holing out at long-on to a slower ball, Taunton got 230 all out in reply.
Saturday (just gone) our first league match in WEPL Premier 2 vs. Glastonbury CC, we batted first again and I attacked early on, we were 83-0 off the first powerplay (10 overs) and finished on 269, I hit 63 before snicking off to first slip. We bowled them out for 155 so a convincing 114 run win in our first game at this standard.
Sunday (yesterday) played a friendly against not the best bowling attack but runs are runs, I retired on 100* on a tricky wicket. Other team didnt get close to our 256.
All in all 5 games, 2 not outs, 3 fifties, 1 hundred, 365 runs @ 123! Very happy start to the year :)

On saturday, We managed 164 off 40 overs against a mixture of 1st and 2nd team bowlers from the team we played against whilst being a mixed 3rd/4th XI. I managed 21 coming in at 3, and was part of a 50 run stand for the 2nd wicket. It took them 33 overs to knock off the runs, so a very good fielding effort from us I thought

Well being the Sunday 3rd/4th XI Senior at the age of 23 I was asked to open the batting, to which I was the 8th wicket to fall. You would think that this would mean I got a healthy score. But I ended up with 23 after holing out to a pie bowler trying to make a few more runs. We was bowled out for 65 after 27overs.
They got that in 20overs 7 down. This was after one of the lads getting a hat trick maiden.
Still only got us 2 points.....

Used my mongoose for the first time tonight in an evening game, hit 35 not out including 23 off one over.
Then I took 2 wickets in 2 balls
4 knocks this year, 49* 24 15* and 35*, 123 average ain't bad!

First game as evening league skipper this year and opened my account with a win. Won the toss and batted first. Only made 2 with the bat in a total of 139-7 off our 16. Then restricted them to about 103 with me bowling the last over (in the dark lol)
Was a good game to start the legit campaign, lets hope we get through the first round of the cup next week!

LMS match tonight. They scored 118 off 18. One guy using an Aldred, bowled for overs for two wickets and twenty-ish runs. We knocked them off inside 15.
The Aldred turned out to have been sold on by our very own fasteddie!

If you really like the bat I would leave it mate, stick some watered pva glue onto it, glue toe guard back down using a poxy resin then possible put a couple of cuts of edge tape over the toe. Not worth changing if you really like the feel pick up etc.
If not send it back as the next one could be a gun :D

I'm sitting out this weekend after only managing 23 overs in last weeks game before splitting the webbing between my thumb and index finger.

It's not the biggest split in the world but its in a bloody annoying place. Hopefully it's knitted together by next week enough so I can play. It still feels too tender to risk this week, my heart was saying play but my head (for a change) prevailed.

I've not played this season but my 12 year old has played 9 games so far this season.
Scored his first 50 last night in a total of 96 for 2.
So far this season he's scored 6*, 37, 23, 0, 30*, 0, 24*, 8, 55*
He's also taken 9 wickets including a hatrick and 1 catch.

Dived to stop a sweep shot, stopped it and looked down to see my hand bleeding. It was hit hard but I've stopped harder but I guess I was just unlucky with where and how it's hit my hand. We're really short tomorrow and praying for rain so I feel guilty for not playing but it's just not worth the risk.

Standard 217 run win for us today. 351-3 batting first, one of our openers with 119 an number 3 with 153*.
Reduced to 38 overs chasing 320 for the oppo who ended up 103-7. I ended with figures of 7 overs, 4 maidens, 2-8. Bowling average of 4 in the 2s, might retire ;)

Lost comfortably. Bowled well to restrict them to 178-7. Had the novelty of bowling on a track covered in halestones at one point. In hindsight it didnt do us any favours as the track got sticky when the sun came out. We collasped to 95ao as their spinners proved difficult to get away. Bowled 1-27 off 9 at the death and slogged 14 try to get after the medium pacer but got a leading edge to one that held up. Not our day.

We batted first, got to 50-0 then it rained. Their skipper was very reluctant to go back on after this. Then we got to 122-4. It rained. It had stopped raining for 10 minutes before their team appeared to move the covers off. We stayed outside during this time. Their skipper was again reluctant to go on. I gave my players the instruction to get to max batting points as quickly as possible, which we did the ball before coming off for rain again.
Then we called it a day as we would have been playing in the dark by the end!
Their captain just seemed so reluctant to play cricket, I've played in far worse conditions.

No game last week due to opposition unable to field a team so was looking forward to today.
Turned up to hear we only had ten due to some late drop outs and only 3 adults. Was going to suggest to the captain I go down the order a bit as I was no. 3 in our first game so that plan went out the window straight away. We restricted them to 174 with some good bowling from our kids. I ended up opening and was happily settling in to the 4th over when, just after them pep talk from the captain to stick around I square cut a wide one in to the fielders hands and it stuck. Which was a shame as there was plenty of drop catches in both innings. I was out for a mighty 1.
To cap it all I ended up umpiring for 30 overs and as I had not done this before in a competitive game I was looking forwarded to only umpiring square leg to ease me in. But because the two remaining adults where in together I did both ends for a while.
In the end we lost by 59 runs, I have a sore thumb from a dropped catch and a bad shoulder from a full length dive to stop a shot but I am loving it, roll on Thursday when we have a cup game! :D :D

Only difference was I scored for the remainder instead of umpiring out in the rain and cold which I was fairly happy with. Only decent part of the day

Won today! Got bowled out for 130 batting first on the worst wicket I've played on. I got 22 off 53 hitting 2 fours before a leading edge to point.
We bowled them out for 76 which was nice.
Used my Gray Nicolls, feels good in the hands, will open up but the middle is quite large!

Fought through the rain to take a win today. We got 232 which was a good effort on a very soft, damp track and then bowled the opp out for 200 odd. Personally not a great day, got 2 then mistimed a drive to cover and never got into my keeping. Managed my first run out in years for the last wicket though

What a rubbish day. We bowled first and they ended up on 230 odd off their 45 overs with me ending up on career(and probably club) worst figures of 12-0-75-3 before the rain came during tea and the game was called off. Only positive was that I took two decent catches so I'm now top of the catching leader board at the club this season.

Then in there innings they got off to a good start before we pegged them back when our 2 spinners were bowling. Then the heavens opened which meant the spinners started bowling long hops etc, we said to the umpire this is to hard to play in he response " you have no I umpire and I deam it fit to play. So we stayed out in the rain for the next hour getting soaked to lose with 2 overs to spare, then have to listen to them singing and crowing about how great there are and are gonna win the league. Can't wait to get them to our place on a hot day.
Personally got 42 and 2 catches behind so average of 51 for league season so far which is good.

We were playing very close to the Dover coast and the wind was bad anough let alone when the rain was comming down sideways, the problem was it was blowing straight across the pitch, so the batsmen with lids on where saying it was ok,
what really annoys me is if it had been the other way and they found themselves 70-5 when the rain came they would have walked off and taking the weather result, our fault for not replacing the umpire but how can you at 3 hours notice?

Had a rain delayed start so played 36 overs each. Was put in to bat on a wicket with 2 massive damp patches where there was a gap between covers - we had a strong team so was keen to just get started.
We posted 135 off our 36 - they played well on the improving conditions and ended up on a tied score going into the last ball - ran a single to win. Gutting way to lose.

that's fair enough. It's alot harder for leggies to grip the ball in those conditions, I can simply (and I did when it got wet) fire it in cross seam and hope for some cut off the deck.

They bowled out their overseas and pro player which meant when the heavens opened again, not only did we lose shed loads of overs suddenly but they had already used their main guys. Mean that we ended up with one wicket down and 9 overs to post a decent total. We smashed them about a bit to post 150 odd off 29 overs (remember we batted for 20 overs against two good bowlers thinking it was a 50 over game!!). I ended on 51*. Their tea was utter crap and then we fielded for 10 overs of what can only be described as slogging before finally the hail came and finished the game. Only good thing was having a good live net for myself.
Sunday... well, rain, rain, rain, rain and more rain. The side decided to 'try and get a game' but it really was stupid. It never stopped and was just stupid, not fun and certainly going to achieve nothing as the bowlers used soap and the batsmen were on a hiding to nothing. Luckily sense prevailed after 12 overs and we gave up.. No tea ready so just headed home.
Basically, rubbish weekend really.

It's the on off part that's so annoying. I'd rather they just call it off on days like that. Plus, given when we started we had to think we were batting for 50 overs then it drops to 29 when we were on 20 overs.. Meant it screwed us up completely (given they bowled out their best two bowlers using normal overs quotas).
But yes, that is the positive mate. More time in the middle is never a bad thing. Touch wood the form continues and the runs keep flowing.

Had a great game today, a little rain but bloody freezing down here in Kent.
They batted first got 201-6 off 40 we won on the last ball of the game with our young colt hitting the final ball for 6 straight down the ground (using my HitsHard bat :D)
I got another solid 40 before a rush of blood and got stumped, really good game of cricket all round. Passed the 250 runs for the season which is setting me up for a good total of runs this year. Fingers crossed.

A victory to keep up our unbeaten start to Sunday friendly season, and my first game of the season today.
Was batting well then tried to play a spinner down the legside as it was there to be bit, made a mess of it and it clicked bat/glove then a bit of leg/pad then landed on top of the stumps. 2 played ons in 2 days...not sure thats happened to me before. At least im getting myself out...managed 15 runs today so improvement on yesterday. Took a catch for the last wicked too so not all bad. O, and got soaking wet. All good fun

Played first official game of the season, with weather being -4 degrees celsius in morning at game commenced at 07:30.
We lost the toss and fielded, in bowling I bowled one over giving five runs and dismissing opposition opener who was top scorer.
In batting, I was promoted and sent one down. I was in middle on fourth ball as our opener fell to a blinder! Played around and made patient 17 with a single four and then being dismissed in 12th over. Later after my dismissal heavy rain poured with hails.
Alas, we won season opener by five wickets.

One of the few teams in my area to play yesterday. Started in the rain and it stayed with us for our 30 overs of fielding. Bloody horrible stuff but never got bad enough to come off. Wicket was dodgy to say the least, lots of alarming lift. Once the hosts lost the new ball and we used an old ball things settled down. Problem was the old ball just got bigger and wetter. I've never bowled with a ball where the entire surface felt spongy to the touch. Might explain my less than stellar effort of 0-30 in 5, but I think the skipper had simply run out of bowlers willing to bowl with that ball. Chasing 146 in 30 proved nearly impossible. We had, for Barford, a decent batting line up but like most weeks I trudged out at 55-5 off 16 (we were 20-4 off 8, so it's a recovery lol) and tried to help rescue the innings. Sunday's I prefer to bowl and bat lower, just I have an expectation that our better batsman will sometimes we'll post a few runs first lol. Problem chasing was the outfield was wet and the ball was so soft that nothing was getting close to the boundary. Our skipper, didn't have his best game. He ran himself out, charging down the wicket when I smacked it straight at square leg. He then sent in the least strongest batsman he could find when we needed 9 an over. To cap it off, he agreed to 7 overs per bowler in a 30 over game!, we stuck to 6 overs and the oppo didn't, avoiding the need to bowl weaker bowlers. Oppo put everybody on the boundary for the last 4 overs, which was a bit pointless as we could only hit it half way due to the beach ball they were bowling with. It all rather died a death, we ended up 120-7. I got 27*, which would normally of been 50 odd on a dry day. Lost count of how many well timed balls dribbled just past the infield. At least we played and somehow I caught the sun, how can that happen when we never saw it?

Well yesterday we travelled an hour and a bit up to their ground, only a mile back from where we went (and didn't finish) on Saturday. We started in the rain (for some reason). Ended up facing 8 overs, getting to 32-2 after another rain break. Then the rain came back and we called it a day, I finished on a solid 1 not out!
What a waste of a weekend

We had our traditional early season game up at Broad Halfpenny Down (Hambledon) yesterday. Turned up, lost the toss and got put in got to 70 odd for 1, rain came, covers went on. Game over. Dammit!
On the plus side there was a raspberry and white chocolate brownie/cake contraption that was a culinary triumph and it was ably backed up by an apple and cinnamon cake that could well go down in history. Worth it for the tea alone.
Shame though, Broad Halfpenny Down has to be one of, if not the most, historic ground in the world.

i swear to god i had the weirdest game ever on saturday.
not only where playing against our second team we had the most bi polar day ever.
we started 2 hours late on a soking wett artificial pitch and the out field was S... as it was used for football in the winter so good luck with fielding in that area.. ofcourse where i was standing.
after about 10 overs it was time to cover the pitch for the first time cause of the rain it only lasted about 5 mins. so back to the game again 5 overs later the storm came.. not raining yet as the thunder and lightning started, us with our stupid minds thought hey lets cover the pitch cause thats a good idea on a massive field with thunder and lightning. The covers where blown of about 3 times before it started raining and i mean RAINING you couldnt see 2 meters infront of you. Then the hail came the size of pingpong balls. ohw and lets not forget there was still thunder and lightning. we ran back onto the field for snowball cricket and then took the covers of to go play some normal cricket.
the game was reduced to 31 overs in which they got 80 runs.. with in 19 overs me and the other batsman had a partnership of 80 and kindly said thanks for the game now you lot can cover the pitch.

I doubted our sanity starting in the rain and the last 10 overs of our fielding effort yesterday was some of the most miserable conditions I've played in. Nobody wanted to be out there and our sole intention was to get off the pitch as quickly as possible.

There's nothing worse than having to be in the field for hours upon end it wet, gloomy conditions where it is so cold that you slowly lose the feeling in your hands and feet. Not to mention having a good shiver becaause you're freezing standing on a boundary for 20+ overs!

I dropped a high catch yesterday, think monty pansaer, wet bar of soap in a squall and you get the idea. Landed on the tip of my finger and for a few minutes it was so cold I couldn't feel any pain. Towards the end of the next over the wind dropped and it warmed up for a few seconds and it didn't half sting lol.

Sounds like last year all over again :(. Washed out days, freezing in the cold, covers coming on and off. Putting on our covers is a workout in itself.
Under prepared pitches that favour bowlers.
Typical I suppose, sunny weather during the weekdays but once saturday hits rain.

Two wins and a loss, although we should have won the game we lost.
1st game we chased down 136 and was down at number 5 to bat, but skipper put himself up the order to quickly knock the runs off (got a golden duck instead!)
2nd game we set 218-3 and was again knocked down the order to 6 in the attempt for quick runs late in the innings. Lost this one after ex England bowler Amjad Kahn made up for his poor bowling smashing 80no!

We started off on Saturday in decent conditions and bowled about 25 overs before the 1st rain break. This was an important game for us as the opposition are one of the teams who will be up there at the end of the season and we got them 70-5 before they had a good partnership taking them up to 140 odd all out. We batted like t**ts and looked like being skittled for under 100 before another rain break. Our 8,9 and 10 then showed how to do it though and chased down the total, winning off the last ball. Cracking game but as I failed with the bat again, it looks like a spell in the 2's from next week.
Tea: good enough but nothing spectacular.

I know. Moved to a new club last year and already have a very good wicket keeper. In fact also have another guy who plays who keeps for Cumberland yet doesn't get the gloves!
Not something I always enjoyed really. Just get to stand at slip/gully now so pretty much the same!

Played firsts on Saturday against Swardeston CC. We got skittled for 116, due to them having a Norfolk seamer who was nipping it about all over the show. Managed to get 10, before being adjudged LBW when I was way outside the line of off-stump, even had a few of their players saying I got a bad one.
We then got them 56-1 in reply before the heavens opened. I opened the bowling, took 1-13 off 7 overs. Bowled with really good pace, gutted once my spell came to an end due to me not being able to bowl more because of my age, felt in such good rhythm.
All in all, was the best result for us as we gained points from the rain whilst they lost points, considering they're our biggest rivals to get promoted back to the Alliance Prem next year.

It was a college cup game, 30 overs a side.
Number 3 was asked whether he wanted to bat as we would have retired our opener once he got to 50 but just said not to bother. Opener got to 50, deserves to see the team home! We did use 7 different bowlers though.

Back down to earth with a bang last week. Played against Gloucester City in a game reduced to 29 overs per side, i hit the first ball of the game straight to gully for a golden duck! Brings my season average down to about 95 so not all bad. We hit a very good 207-7 in our 29. But then the rain came and washed out any hopes of a finish.
Gloucestershire spinner Ed Young played for them, looked pretty good but went for 40 odd off 6 overs.

Batted at number 3 a promotion from number 8 and the previous seasons number 11 position. Felt really comfortable on possibly the best wicket I've played on, even played the spinners really well which is unlike me. Got to a quick 19 then poked one straight back to the bowler. All out for 51. Hahahaha

Played a Civil Service cup game today. Opened and was plodding on nicely. Other opener and no:3 got out cheaply with utterly crap shots trying to force the pace (we were only chasing 155 off 40 overs!!).. So me and our gun batsmen (we both play for a different club normally) just batted properly, picked off the bad balls and were going really well.
So Taz smashes a drive back at the bowler, who manages to get a finger tip (so he said) onto it and it hit my stumps... run out.. gutted. They were never going to get me out any other way.. Gutted :( That's my first failure of the season and I was (big headed I know) easily going to get a 50 today.. not happy.
Still, least I got some good wicket time for the main event on saturday.

Due to wife issues, not playing weekends at the moment. Had a good lms win that was less of a challenge than expected taking all bonus points and 2 for 20 of my 4, opening the bowling.

Had our first T20 match tonight we batted first got 132-6 my usually opening slot was lost as the skipper told me my cautious approach was not was not what was required in this format so I was down to bat at 6. I was in to bat inside the 5th over got 28 off 18 balls so quite please
They got 98 for 8 in reply so another nice win for the club. Next league T20 next week but time to get ready for longer format tomorrow.

Game called off due to heavy rain.
What a relief! Captain said we were down to 8 players and I have hurt my shoulder playing in a cup match on Thursday night.
I was beginning to wonder where I could field that the ball never went to as I would struggle to stop the ball or throw it. My batting would rely on taking the right hand off the bat for most shots. Not a good situation to start with.
At least I did not have to try to play :-[

Bowled them out for 35!
I didn't even have to bowl as our opening bowlers took 5 wickets each, not bad considering one of them is a professional footballer for Southampton! He also hit over half of our score!

Playing the promotion favourites and came second best. Started well enough at 70 for 0 off 23 overs but then lost 2 in 3 balls (Redders LBW second ball :( ) and wickets kept falling and could get a any momentum and finished 126-7. I ground out 8, trying to eek something out with our long tail. Disappointingly, I never got going despite the bowling not causing me any problems, everything I hit went straight at a fielder :( . They got off to a flying thanks to some lad who's drop down several leagues and were on 40 very quickly before we nabbed him. Myself and Redders got a wicket apiece but they cantered home for 3 down.

Was lucky to survive my 2nd ball as I was dropped by Somerset's Jack Leach at mid-off, but only scored 14 before top edging to first slip. Leach got 3-40 from his 10, and We bowled out Taunton Deane for 160ish, top of the league and loving it!

Played against canners team saturday. They posted 183 all out. I opened the bowling and there was alot of dross being bowled by me which canners told me he took a liking to. Some interesting umpiring decisions for both teams. Must say canners did look good for his 30. My figures were 5 overs none for 19 with 7 wides. Just wished i was fit like a few years ago and not bowling off 3 paces. We won by 6 wickets. Nice to catch up with you canners.

It was the 1st outing for my bat from Ryan on Saturday and I came in with 5 or 6 overs to go and put on 40 odd with the RK getting me a neat 17*. Very pleased with it. We won by a 100 or so runs but played on a ground with a nice pitch but an outfield that hadn't been cut for a few weeks which meant the only way to score boundaries was to go over the top, everything else stopped about 15 yards from the square. We're now 3 from 3 and still top of the league.

after an absence of 3 years due to dislocating my shoulder and being told never to play cricket again. On Saturday came out to bat at no.8 for 54* then came on first change and achieved 5 overs for 8 runs with 4 wickets before being removed from the attack. Pretty happy with that performance but I'm still aching today. Hopefully have more performances like this.

Had a terrible game on Saturday. Traveled a ridiculous distance to the oppo's ground(newly promoted team) and we elected to bat first. After 32 overs I came in at 44-6 and got out cheaply trying to pull a short ball that didn't get any higher than my ankle. We ended on 64 all out which they chased for the loss of one wicket which is very annoying as we had 3 chances dropped(one off my own bowling) so ended up with just a single point from the game.
Days like that make you wonder why you pay £5 every week to play cricket... On a rather amusing note, one of our middle order sloggers batted for 14 overs before he scored his first run, and then got out next ball trying to chip mid off...

Won our first league game of the season on Saturday (only our second game, ootherwise I'd have won that affinity bat and Ayrtek lid ;)) Bowled oppo out for 110 and won by 4 wickets. I personally top scored with 29 at 6, playing the finishing role before throwing it away (not playing the finishing role very well).

Lost Saturday in a horror show, and won Sunday.
Got skittled for 112 by a poor team on Saturday, we all batted like penises myself included for 8 which was incredibly frustrating. only managed to get five of their wickets in a game we should win.
Sunday we chased 217 at Portishead. I regret saying to our captain I'd like to bat at 4 as I only came in and faced 10 balls as all the runs had pretty much been got. Our opener getting 86 and number 3 getting 60*. I managed 11* and hit one in the lake there again :)

Then during warm up before the game I got a ball thrown I to the spring back stump that hit the top and bounced up I to my mouth splitting my top & bottom lip and bleeding al over new season shirt. Opened the batting got hit somehow in the tiny gap between inner thigh pad and knee and got the biggest purple/green bruise and then to top it off got a awful LBW decision that was given because the only person to Appeal was third man. Finally when keeping a ball was thrown in as the batsman was taking a single it hit the back of his helmet and went straight into my nose popping that all over my face and ruining another players new season shirt. And we lost on the last ball of the game when the bowler failed to pick up a ball rolled to him from cover when they needed 2 to win off last ball, batsman miss hit it and just ran and for some unknown reason the bowler just seemed to let it go.
Then on Sunday with 2 black eyes, split lips and bloody whites I hit 172 my highest ever score. So kinda made up for my Saturday.

Well, Sunday I was due to be coaching a District game, drove about 2 miles and it was called off. Never mind as my Sunday team was 1 short. We waiting for the rain to stop and eventually go some play, I hit 46 batting at number 5, got caught trying to hit out in the last 2 overs. Then opened the bowling and took 4-12!

Managed to win our first Saturday game of the season at the weekend. Batted first on a very damp wicket and got 153-8, came in late on and struggled only getting 3 runs. Then bowled them out for 118, opened the bowling and took 2-28 off 7 overs, managed to knock their opener over and bounced their number 3 out. Bowled pretty sharp again which is awesome, especially on a very damp wicket.

Last weekend was a complete washout. Both Saturday and Sunday cancelled due to lack of opposition! Having said that, my hangover on Sunday would have been interesting for a day of cricket.

Saturday was garbage, bowled out for 30 (clubs lowest score ever). Pitch had a bit of spice, and their opener took 7-16 in a spell of sharp seaming swinging fast bowling, but our batsmen were dreadful. He bowled 2 triple-wicket maidens, which was mad! I got 2* batting at 9, their slip fielders said I shaped up better than the top order! We managed to get them 7 down before they knocked it off, so it was an interesting day. Started at 1.30, finished at 3.45!
Sunday was a last-ball finish, They put on 140 and we knocked it off 6 down, I bowled 8-3-26-0. Had their opener dropped at slip on 14, he went on to make 42! Mortified!

Played on Saturday and we were very much second best if not third best out of two teams. Our captain (less said about his captaining abilities the better) put us in on a green wicket. We struggled to 148 off 45, I got a comfortable 14 before being run out trying to up the run rate.
We are playing this Saturday with another depleted team and I've already been told I could be opening the batting and keeping. I haven't opened in a league game for years and I'm really hoping to grab my chance to show them what I can do. It'll be a change from coming in down the order trying to up the rate or coming in when were right up against it at 30 odd for 5.

Played a T20 tonight. Due to the weather ended up being 10 overs each. We posted 129-4. I batted at 4, came in just before the 7th over and scored 37 and out on last ball using the 'mongoose' style Msr from steve. Oppo ended up 68 for 7 from their 10.

Just like last year, we are regularly having games rained off. Today's is the 2nd in 4 games. Although the 2nd's are still on and only had 10 so I've dropped down to get a game, hoping to find some form with the bat and the ball after a few shockers in the last few weeks. Hopefully we actually get to complete a game.

Had the oppo 61-6 and let them get to 164, I was behind the stumps for only the 3rd time in years. Didn't do too bad although I'm convinced some of the leg side byes were surely wides! Opened the batting for the first time ever in the league for this club. Felt comfortable and hit some good drives got a start and got out miscueing a cut shot. I'd missed out on one the ball before and in hindsight I shoulda left it alone.
That signalled the collapse and we were all out for 70 odd. 4th loss outta 4 and 4th game we've had a poor 11, we at least we had 11 today!
A bleading annoying day all round. Crickets a funny old game both teams hadn't won before today and the confidence swing in both teams was amazing. We were full of confidence until they're last few batsman took the score onwards. That made our lads drop in confidence. After a good start to the batting you could see them dropping again, but 2 wickets in 2 balls swung it back the other way!
Try again next week. Lets hope it's not 5 from 5!

Lost today by 29 runs chasing 244-9 which was frustrating, but didn't have the worst game myself. Got 32 off 23 without hitting a wild shot before playing on. Also seemed to have fixed a technical error and played a pretty awesome cover drive, even their overseas player phoned ours (They're mates) and said I played well which was nice. I also got 1-32 off 5 at the end, a catch and a run out.

4 wins out of 4. Pretty straightforward stuff, we we were playing the bottom placed side and bowled them out for 88. The first 38 runs of their innings came on the leg side which shows something about our bowling and their batting. We knocked them off relatively easily but the annoying thing is that I turned my knee at the end of their innings and will have to sit out for a little while. Gutted as I am just getting myself in to form with the bat.

Weirdest game I think I've ever played today. Rocked up to Middlezoy to find that the changing rooms were the backstage area of the village hall. Went out to look at the pitch to find that it was the same length as the outfield (and its not a low standard of cricket either). Went out and warmed up, and the umpire came over to a) remind us that there are 3 minutes after a wicket has fallen to get to the crease, and b) to ask us which end we would be opening from (45 minutes before the game).
Started the game, had them 21-6 with a mix of good bowling, good catching and poor batting. Then came in the oddest bloke I have ever had the misfortune of playing against. He was an absolute tool, and started chirping about how rubbish he was, just wouldn't shut up! Really odd! Eventually bowled them out for 104, only to find out that the 2 lads who played really well, and looked very good were their opening batsmen (who just so happened to be batting at 8 and 9).
Went out to bat, wicket was awful, umpiring was even worse. Old boy standing in his first game, gave 4 horrendous lbws and a run out that was a carbon copy of the Ian Bell against India run out, only the other umpire had called over! Cheating scumbags they were the lot of them, and the entire time, their wicket keeper was giving the most horrendous chat (same batter that was really odd). Sending off our overseas and just generally being an ass! At the same time not being able to catch a ball cleanly! Eventually won by 2 wickets, and the keeper walks off in the opposite direction, citing the excuse that he needs to ice his hands to which the reply was 'why? you haven't caught anything all game', and it all sort of kicked off from there really.
Kind of makes you lose faith in the game that you love so much! Personally, 0 after middling a straight drive at their bowler who stuck out a mit and it 'stuck' All in all, it was just one of those days! Any-one in that league or the league below(as they'll undoubtedly go down), if you need an away game to miss, then I would suggest that that is the one!

Lost our first game of the season yesterday against Thornbury.
Started nicely, as I took 18 from the first over of the match including a straight drive clearing the warehouse next door to the ground! Only to find that the bowler actually plays for England under 19's! We scored 263 and they knocked them off with 7 balls to spare thanks to 105 from Will Gidman who plays for Gloucestershire. Unfortunately I had a direct hit against him given not out where apparently he was a tad short of his ground when he was on 30 odd! Apart from that, he was near enough chanceless!

after gifting the oppo's my wicket yesterday when set to kick on I decided today no bugger was gonna get me out.. 118* from opening in a 40 over game. Happy with that. Completely chanceless too which is very rare to see from anyone.

Well I got to the ground late, due to running the Manchester 10k and failing to find the missus for half an hour. Turned up ten mins into the game (im sure I was there 5mins before the start but hey) I was told that I was meant to open but im now three. Threw on my pads, the opener who stepped up left a straight one. some erratic bowling left me to hit the chest high ball for 4 just over a fielders head. Safe to say 2 balls later I edge a defensive to gully. Lots of runs available on that ground and we lost.

Opened the innings, scored 111* and shared an unbeaten stand of 135 with my best mate Guy Andrews. A triple celebration as it was his first half century after two major operations for bowel cancer and in the oppositions innings I took my 500th wicket for the club.

It's been a tough 12 months for him but if anyone will beat it he will. Pretty inspirational bloke - had his first major operation this time last year and was playing cricket by the end of July. We were short so he played wicket keeper colostomy bag and all - diving all over the place and taking a catch.
Had a pretty good night in the pub after that game as well.

We won again, 5 out of 5 for my weekend team now which is almost as many wins as we had all last year. On paper I had a good game, 52 with the bat, two wickets and a catch. Being honest though the catch was the best part, a really good one running towards the boundary and taking it over my shoulder, wasn't an easy one at all. Batting wise I'm pleased as it was my first 50 for 2 seasons but it wasn't a good knock - dropped a few times and just didn't feel comfortable. Played and missed a lot, hit the ball in the air a lot inbetween fielders and generally wasn't good at all. I think I'm just far too early on most shots and only in my last few balls where I hit a six over long on and a nice late cut for 4 did it feel better - but then I got run out when I should have sent my partner back instead of trying to make the run. With 9 overs left and some poor bowling if I'd stayed in I could have got quite a few more. I just don't bat like I do in nets so really need to work on it, out in the middle I play cross line too much and just play silly shots.
Bowling wise I did ok but they were two easy wickets, one from the lower order and the other being the opener who played a bad shot after batting a long time. Disappointingly I bowled two wides in the 2 overs I bowled, considering I once opened the bowling in a premier league game and was a regular in 2nd XI at that standard I'm nowhere near where I once was. I'm hoping to get slimmer and fitter and hopefully bowl better later this season, I've lost over a stone in the last 8 weeks to take me to about 15 stone and I reckon losing another stone will help.

The Saturday team I play for have won 4 out of 4 and my best bowling figures have been 3 wickets for 20 runs of 11 overs I have only played three of them and have batted in two with a best of 5* haha ;)

It would be nice to have a match. Our opposition conceded this morning as they could not get a team. It took them until 10.30am to tell us despite us anticipating the situation on Tuesday when our team was picked. They had conceded the last two games for the same reason. Just waiting to find out if we are top of the league as a result as we were second.
An annoying pattern is developing as we seem to be playing once a fortnight as a result of weather and teams conceding.

Chasing 210 after having them 20-0 from 21 overs.
Ended up losing by 10 runs, came down to being outfielded by the opposition. We gave about 30 runs too many due to a horror show in the field
Personally, I hit a low full toss straight to the fielder. Really can't buy any luck with the bat; fellow team mates got dropped, one wicket of a no ball.
No opposition next week due to them withdrawing from the league.

had my first go at bowling off spin in a senior match today, still 14 and learning spin but got a wicket so pretty happy with that, played on after hitting to gorgeous cover drives, always next week i guess.

Suffered not having an umpire today. Turned up to a nice looking ground, went to look at the wicket and it was just a lump o mud with moss on top, soaking wet no covers or sightscreens, there skipper rocked over with there umpire and despite our protests at saying it wasn't fit to play on they said it was umpire agreed a d they opted to bowl. Anyway most things just shot along to floor or popped and spat. We got 75 it dried out a touch, we dropped 4 catches and lost so a load of crap really . To at on a wicket like that at a decent club level was just shocking. First time this team have used this ground and I'm so glad we won't have to go there again.

However, what put a massive downer on the day was that they were a massive bunch of w****rs, they appealed for anything that hit the pad, even the guys at fine leg and square leg, then one of their bowlers decided he didnt like me backing up and told me he was going to 'knock me out' if i didnt stop, umpires totally lost control and ended up having a go at me and my opening partner because we were antagonising (rubbish). they were frankly a disgrace to the game

Won yesterday, we batted 1st and posted 221 off our 45 overs (4 runs off full Barton points) and restricted them to 202-8. Personally I took 2-40 off 8 with my offies (more expensive than I've been all year in the league). Our overseas also scored a decent ton so good day for us really.
On another note off to captain later nursing a hangover, at least 4 of our 6 league sides won and it was my best mates birthday yesterday, so the post match trip to town got a bit messy

Well I've missed a weekend of cricket due to some ridiculous illness which has meant I've not been able to move for three days, gutted!

We are (were) second in the league and were playing top of the league who had hit scores of 176, 181, 240, 247 in their 4 previous games. We had bowled teams out for 96, 38 and 86 in previous games relying mainly on 2 bowlers. These 2 bowlers were unavailable.
I won the toss as stuck them in, we did very well in bowling them out for 135. We only had one missed chance when our bowler parried a caught and bowled up in the air, I came charging in from mid off, full length dive, caught it left handed as the bowler dived for it, we collided, I came off worse and dropped the ball!
We were looking good at 66-1. Then they bought on a left armer, who was swinging it in which was also down the slope, nobody had any answer to it and we collapsed to 89 all out. I was so disappointed with my team, we had the chance to go top of the league and we threw it away.

Skipper asked me to play this weekend, after last sat's game. 'Phoned up about 12.30 this sat to tell me I wasn't required. Didn't get the call - 1.30 start - turned up and looked like a proper 'portal of paradise'. So don't moan to me that you got triggered for a low score or got carted all over the park by a guy who got dropped eleventeen times on his way to 174*. :D

Finally got a bat, the first innings in the league/cup (after 5 matches). Faced two balls, the first being a wide down the leg side, we ran two. The second ball flicked the outside of my front foot, the ball went for two leg byes. 0*
We won by 73 runs.

Crap weekend with the bat again. 7 yesterday 3 today. Not helped by sprained/strained wrist. Got my first ever wicket today though after bowling 6 overs. We won both days though so not too bad a weekend

Played in the Aero development league today with a Orange Aero ball. OH MY GOD do those orange balls swing, young lad bowling with a little bit of pace cut my in half about 6 times it was outrageous bowling.
Any way bowled them out for 152 and we got 147, we had 6 players under 17 so great to see our colts bowl well and the 1 colt batter made a good 25, I got 43 so not bad.

Played a 20/20 last night, we set 150 with myself biffing a cultured 28n/o off 16 balls at the end including a nice 6, so was happy and rolled em for 60

played a 20/20 on tuesday, they hadn't lost a wicket and with an over to go looked set to get the 103 they needed, i had the last over bowling off spin (which i had only started bowling this season) they needed 8 so hadn't got much to loose, ended up taking a 3 wicket madien and winning the game!

This season im struggling on a Saturday, but going well in the midweek bash. Averaging 63 in midweek games(we don't keep track of strike rates, but I would easily say at better than a run a ball), but only averaging 11 on a Saturday - opening in both formats, I think I should drop down the order in the Saturday format - only problem is we don't really have any proper openers.

A week to forget for me, I got 1 in my midweek game off 13 balls then a golden duck today. Triggered LBW to one going down leg, I think the umpire making the decision as our previous batsman had reacted very badly to another dodgy LBW chucking his bat and arguing (it was a shocker, hit above the pad on his thigh and outside the line).

my team are on a bit of a bad run of form at present, lost agin today which is 4 on the bounce, we cant seem to bowl well at the moment. We got 215 from 46 overs which on the track we played on may have been about 40-50 short in an ideal world. We played a pakistan team who had 1 very good spin bowler and then 3 good seamers. Bloody appealed for anything and everything and got a couple of questionable decisions but anyway. I got 95 and was out in the 44over gutted but haho (i reckon i may be close to simmy) but i am playing decent county league cricket :D
They cam in and saw ball hit ball and they got it in 38 overs and all had really good eyes but we bowled far to much crap not a yorker in sight and we could not build any pressure on the batters. Im sure out luck will change and our bowling unit will click.
We are winning all our T20's though 3 out of 3 and also a 15over tournement our league runs 2/2 so maybe we need to just play short format cricket lol

top game today 3rd vs 4th, scored my first senior 50 being only 14 and went on to get my highest score with 78. ended up on 250 not bad considering when i came in at 4 we were on 30, they needed 8 of the last over and only managed 2 so a great day allround, ive also got a under 15's and another 2's cup match tomorrow so alot to look foward too!

Blimey Soulman, ours is the same (4 games lost in a row) but it's the batting that's letting us down! Rolled for 119 today, then we had them 6 down with nothing really left but we couldn't seal it. I bowled 12-6-15-2, as an SLA bowling round the wicket to a leftie I was having a field day, was spinning big to him! Like best part of a foot and a half, watching him trying to cut me with the ball pitching outside off and coming back to miss leg stump was amusing... Would rather I bowled like a drain and win than bowl well and lose (obviously I'd rather bowl well AND win, but we can't have it all can we... ;))

Played my first league game in 3 seasons today for my new clubs first team. We fielded first, picking up their two openers fairly cheaply then their 3+4 batsmen had a fairly decent partnership as we stagnated a little, then once they were gone we skittled them for 163 off 47 overs. When batting both our openers hit 45 ad 48. No3 hit about 8, no 5 a duck, I entered the fray at 6 and hit a quick fire 21 from 22 inc 3 fours and a six our no 4 ended on about 28 and our 7 finished the game with a tickled 4 down to third man. Only down side to the game was some absolutely heinous sledging and banter from the oppo about anything they could find!

Strange game yesterday, we bowled the oppo out for 70 on a good batting track, our opener returning figures of 7-24 off 9 overs (about 13 of those were wides) and i took 4 catches including a smart one handed diving effort. Oppo skipper/umpires insisted on sending us out to bat for an hour before we took tea. A selection of poor shots and awful umpiring decisions reduced us to 37 for 5 off 13 overs when we came off. The tea break worked in our favour as we then knocked off the remaining runs easily in 3.3 overs after the break.
Now got 3 wins in a row now, which should take us to 3rd in the table

Home against Warboys today, will be my 3rd since 17 years out, last game got my first batting, big 8 scored with what I found out after was club kids bat! Using the loaned kookaburra Diablo today, unfortunately I miss nets as wife works that night so my practise is actually in a game, currently top of league which is unknown of, usually second bottom but I'm putting that down to the new signing lol. Yesterday we had them down to 40 something for 5. We then let it slip and let them get to 180 due to some poor bowling change decisions by the captain and decent knocks by a couple of their middle order guys.
I opened, was batting well then hit one to point. Should have kept it down. Was a good catch though. We went on to lose. Never had enough batting.
Today we batted first. There was a bit of a change around to batting order due to some poor performances over last few games. As a result I dropped to 7. Couldn't really complain as I've been out of form. Went in to bat with us on 60 something, batted until the last ball. Hit 38, felt pretty good. Albeit against average bowling. Bad to deal with a lack of batsmen to help me, got out last ball trying to smash. We finished on 125 in the end. They got that fairly quickly.

9 Yesterday and a duck playing in firsts today........
On a team note we won yesterday chasing 200 we nocked them off having been 48/5 at one stage great win. Two on the bounce now!
Today - Played in first against one of the better clubs in the league and a forum member, our first team were missing 5 players and probably the best 5 players at that.
We would have struggled with the our best 11 but may have made a fight, as it was we went for 397 in 40 overs!!!! Anothr forum member scoring 50 with what seemed and looked like a fine piece of wood!
In response we were bowled out for 95!! to lose by 302!

Played today took a 5er so chuffed with that, took 1st wicket of match, and then they were 84-3 and ended up all out for 87, serious collapse. Chase it down inside 20 so we went out and had a 10 over bash, scored a quick 18 off 7 balls. And kept wicket terribly

Well had a disappointing day personally, batted no 4 scored 5 out to a Yorker, need some practise really, before hand had a few overs in nets and was playing great, good thing is we batted first and scored 212 off 45 for 7, bowled Warboys out for 45 in 18 overs!!! Great win, mate hit 102 although we will never hear end of it, 20 points and still top of league

Seen some abysmal bowling yesterday by the other team.35 in extras, of which 14 were head height no balls. I somehow manage to get out turning round to see where the leg side wide had gone and knocked the bails off my wicket :( Was on 22 with 5x 4's in about 14 balls. We won the game by 90 or so runs.

We played a game today where we scored 249 for 2 off 40 and the oppo's were never in the game really. They had one guy who on 20 nicked it to the keeper and didn't walk. Their player (umpiring) I personally put no blame on as he shouldn't be put in that position, very very disappointed that he didn't walk tbh. He went on to score 92 before being bowled as he was on 91 in the last over and basically we just stuck everyone on the boundary and told him 'you ain't getting your ton as you cheated and didn't walk'. He wasn't impressed and went on to try and tonk the new bowler (who happens to be our first team opener :) ) and suddenly having a 75mph yorka coming at you beat him for pace (as the rest of the guys who bowled upto them were basically seconds bowlers.
Enjoyable first half of the game, lovely ground, lovely teas but one player being a cheat leaves a sour taste. Hasten to say no one clapped his 50 or clapped/said 'well batted' when he was out.

Still annoyed with myself over how badly I played on Saturday. Got a golden duck after missing a straight ball and followed it up by some lousy fielding and bowling two overs before being taken off for bowling filth. One consolation was that I finally managed to bowl a really good cutter although due to the day I was having it narrowly went over the top of middle and leg and went for 4 byes...

I took myself to new lows.....a second consecutive duck and only 4 runs in the last three knocks. That's 4 LWB's this season, all to the same problem. The fix may be expensive.

We lost off the last ball Saturday. Still getting over it lol
We got 169-7 off 45. I top scored with 47, including a six over mid-on off the leading edge. I thought I had holed out at mid-on and it just kept going, wasn't a short boundary either. Even better I reverse swept a little kid for a couple, just as well as I was plumb otherwise. In return the oppo ground their way towards the total but always seemed a bit behind the game, Paul Smith (ex warwickshire and was only playing because they were short!) got 65 before Redders ran him out but some poor fielding on the boundary at crucial moments meant they needed 1 off the last ball. Our opening bowler had a bit of a mental breakdown and bowled a wide. He was distraught but having taken 4-37 he had done more than most. I bowled 2-29 off 9 at the death but runs flowed elsewhere and we couldn't close it out. Should've won it comfortably really.
Sunday I ground out 27* for my old fogies Sunday team, Barford, in a total of 152-5 off 40. When they were 54-5 off 20 it looked plenty on a tricky pitch but Barford found a way to give them 60 runs of full tosses before I came on to bowl. I bowled 4.1-2-8-0 and we still lost with 5 overs to spare without taking another wicket! Lucky I'm mentally prepared to lose in innovative ways.
Body wrecked and I've had football tonight. Have a t20 at Leek Wootton tomorrow, doubt I'll be able to walk by practise Weds!

After my short innings on saturday i played in two sussex league twenty20 games the team won both, i wasnt required to bat in the first and came in at 4 in the second game, first ball hit a single to get our opening bat on strike who was about 5 away from his ton, then i faced my second ball and hit a straight 6 to win the game.

After a shocking last week for me our midweek game last night was a bit better. We bowled first and they were 137 for 5 off 16 after being 58 for 1 off 5, aside from some sloppy fielding giving away 15-20 runs we did well to peg them back. After 10 overs we were 67 for 3 but then cashed in against the change bowlers to end up winning with 2 overs to spare. One of our lads batted well to get 46 not out and I was 47 not out off 14 balls at the end. Not the greatest bowling that I've ever faced but after scoring 1 run in 13 balls last week it was a relief to get a few.

Got my first game this coming saturday, having only played 4 times last season batting at 4 and not scoring anything and having had about 5 nets all winter until now i will be opening the batting vs 2nd in the league (we are 4th), so im pretty nervous already, its not a great standard but i want to do well obviously, i know i can score runs im just low on confidence and not all that used to opening, i would describe my form but i think its pretty non existent :/
any advice on getting over the nerves would be great!!

Managed to get a game in tonight barring the weather. We play 12, 8 ball overs and we won the toss and bowled first - I was keeping for the first time and I kept well only conceeding 1b, however they got a decent total at our home ground(where anything over 100 is a decent total), where they got 125 after the 12 overs. So usually I open the innings but as I was captaining, I decided to put a pinch hitter up the order and drop myself to 4 - we got ahead the rate and we were constantly an over ahead of the rate, I came in and scored 43 not out to win the game with an over left and I'm now averaging over 100 in midweek games. I cannot complain with that at all, certainly the best form I've ever been in.

Had my first game today, after my nerves last week, it was ok, really slow going though (our skipper cant run, easy 2's were 1s) i hit 22 off about 26 overs with 50 odd on the board, it was swinging all over the place, i opened and took strike got down the other end first ball, we ended up with 116-8 off 46 and bowled 2nd in the league out for 99 i think it was
oh and i took 2 sharp catches, one at gully off a full blooded cut shot and one at square leg from a rank long hop which was spanked at me got hands to it and it just stuck :D
all in all a decent way to start the season :D

Got a loosing draw today and I'm a little angry as there lad got 117 but I had him dropped on 30 odd and when he was on 71 I bowled him but standing ump (our ump) vision was blocked so he asked square leg ump (there ump) did it bowl him to be told no it came off keepers pads onto stumps but our keeper had caught ball off stumps so how could it bounce off his pads if in his gloves

First time I have ever posted on here regarding a result of my game so be kind as I am about to reveal the s**t level I play at.
Batting first we were all out for 71.
I batted at 10 and scored 7, felt comfortable for 5 overs then suddenly thought I was KP and tried to sweep a good length ball and was bowled.
They got the score 8 down
I took one catch and a stumping which was a nice treat
we were however let down by 5 drops in the field and some poor bowling. However, its easy for wicket keepers to blame the bowling ;)

Yesterday turned up in glorious sunshine. We got changed into our training ger for our warm up and then the rain came. Sat about in the bar for about 4 hours and game rained off. Which was a little disappointing
As a result of this I stumbled in at about 4am this morning and I am up at this time due to the kids lavishing me with homemade Father's Day cards. The joy :(

Season has been up and down...
A mixture of either really good scores (78, 54*, 35*, 35* 35*) or terrible scores (0, 0, 4)
Bowling hasn't been to bad picking up a few wickets here and there, I need to make sure I can keep my form going from my youth cricket into my adult cricket for Bridport. I've scored 54* for them and that is my only notable performance with the bat.
On the other hand my bowling isn't to bad, I don't go for many runs and pick up wickets here and there!

Having been 100% sure our game would be rained off we managed a 36over game and won by 150 odd having been stuck in.
In a desperate attempt to regain some form I played the classic CBF bat switch and used a cheap blank bought from Asad for the first time. Seemed to work in some way as I managed to contribute 61 and send their skipper to hospital with a dislocated finger after driving one straight down the ground :-[

Well i was naff, for 2 then out LBW which was me playing across the line. But two lads got 93 and 96 so we declared on 262 and got them out for around 150 with one over to come.

The last two weekend games I've had have really been an embarrassment to the game given the standard we play at. First game one of our batsmen got a shocking decision and was given LBW when the ball hit his thigh and was also going down leg. He proceeded to shout, calling the umpire blind and also threw his bat. Didn't go down well and their lads who were gobby to begin with chirped in a lot. Eventually he left the field, I went in after him and was given LBW to a ball going way down leg - didn't make a fuss as I was always told to respect the umpires and I don't think anyone should react like our bat did especially given the pretty poor level we play at. A few more bad decisions followed just to show how bad the umpiring was. Our bat has been reported but due to him apologising once he'd calmed down the umpires report wasn't too harsh so we're likely to just be fined a bit.
Last weekend was even worse, one umpire was very old and wasn't fit for the job. He never moved to correct position for run outs, etc and even gave guards from in front of his stumps as I assume he couldn't see the full length of the pitch. He gave the same batsman as the first game out LBW to a shocker which was again way too high but this time our lad accepted without fuss it as he should have done the week before. He then proceeded to not give our opener, who went on to get 80 odd, LBW on a couple which looked absolutely plum from where we were sat which wound up their bowler no end. No more controversy until the opposition bat, their opener was doing ok until he was given LBW for one that looked a bit high as he was claiming it hit his thigh and he was also batting outside his crease. He proceeded to react very badly and started yelling at the umpire saying how bad a decision it was and calling our lads cheats for appealing. Took him a good few minutes to leave the field and he still carried on having a go at us from the sidelines, at one stage it did look like it would kick off as some of our lads were having a real go back about some of the appeals he'd tried when bowling. Gets even better though as one of our lads who was sorting out teas came out 10 mins later and told us someone (presumably the opener) had chucked stuff all over our dressing room. Everyone umpires included came off for a look and it turned out he'd opened up a bag of lime used to mark lines in their dressing room, put it in a bucket and chucked it all over our team kit and smashed the bucket. Luckily at the time he'd walked off somewhere and wasn't around or else there would have been a fight as our lads were really hacked off, some even wanting to take it out on his car. The guy came back later and insisted it wasn't him, his team mates also insisted they didn't know who had done it. He even had the cheek to sit there and score for the remainder of the game, if I'd have been their skipper I'd have told him to leave the ground. Final nail in the coffin was that their last wicket to fall was off one of our lads who had already bowled his maximum 11 overs but neither umpire spotted and he'd started his 12th.
Pretty crap attitude all round really and if it hadn't have been for a few of us from each side trying to act as peacekeepers I think it would have been worse. Just really disappointing how a low standard game that should be played in a friendly spirit caused so much hassle. I've played at a lot higher level when I was younger without anywhere near as many problems. Also shows how bad the umpiring is and how they really didn't take control of either situation.

sorry to hear all that. I don't think it's got much to do with the level, more to do with general people's attitudes now full stop. The amount of appealing from fielding sides when they know it's not out is out of this world, umpires trigger people left right and centre even when there is doubt (ie miles down the wicket etc etc), second innings is always worse than the first with more LBW's. Then you have the clubs (and players) who really rate themselves who get so aggressive and OTT with winning that they forget that the oppo's and even some of their own team are there to play a game of cricket that they pay to play. Yes we all want to win, but that doesn't mean it needs to be firey, aggressive and nasty. Play hard, play fair and if you are the better player/team you will win more than you lose. Congratulate anyone else who plays well and sure enough you'll have competitive cricket that everyone will enjoy playing in.
I have been reported to the league from saturday as I ended up bowling (I don't bowl anymore) 7 overs. My brief was to give no 4's and keep it to dots, 1's and 2's. I did this easily enough and got their slogger.. sorry, opener out (having spent his previous 75 runs telling the bowlers to bowl yorkas/low full tosses rather than line na dlength!), then got their number 5 out a few balls later with a away swinger. Their number 4 was a 'county' kid.. now having gone through YTS and Badminton kids stuff at a high level I know it means jack dididly squat but he really rated himself. So I preceed to just block him up etc, then I get him to nick off.. regulation.. wham bang thank you.

I then preceeded to lose it completely and have a right go at him for not walking. His capt was at the other end so I mentioned that if that's the way his club train their players then the game is in a poor state.... Got him out 3 balls later and pretty much abused him the whole time. Totally uncalled for and shouldn't have happened and I'm a very mild mannored person but cheating is totally un-necessary. Yes he wanted to win, yes he'd have been disappointed to get out to a part timer but hey.. if on that one day, that one ball gets you then so be it.. doesn't make you a bad player.. just means on that day, that one ball gets you out.
Really hate playing against players who don't walk. That's two in two weeks who've done that and it really annoys the crap out of me.

Bowled for the first time in a competitve match for 13 years last night, as I am usually 1st team keeper.
3-12 from my 4 overs and we won by 60 odd runs. Those who are friends with me on the book have probably seen the video of my first ball. If I can, I'll stick it up on youtube and post it later. It's rather entertaining by all accounts...

board umpires really do need to learn that pitching outside leg stump (99% of the time!!) means NOT OUT.. week in week out you see people given out LBW to a ball pitching outside leg.

Bowled for the first time in a competitve match for 13 years last night, as I am usually 1st team keeper.
3-12 from my 4 overs and we won by 60 odd runs. Those who are friends with me on the book have probably seen the video of my first ball. If I can, I'll stick it up on youtube and post it later. It's rather entertaining by all accounts...

My season has started well, opening up and averaging 74 as well as looking for back to back promotions into top tier of ponte league.... BUT the dreaded injury curse has struck and potentially facing an operation on my ankle (opening bowlers front foot bashing) - seeing an orthopaedic consultant in 3 weeks. Grumpy bar-steward doesn't even come close to describing my mood on a Saturday when I wake up and know im not playing.... que sara, hopefully the team can push on whilst i'm out..........got.....to......stay.....strong ( who am I kidding? ) :( :( :(

If it's that obvious then why bother appealing for the LBW. Cheating, especially with board umpires as they are very very fast on the trigger so it's always 'worth' a shout

The way panel umpires are currently I don't blame a bowler for trying his luck, why not when you know (especially second innings) you are sooo likely to get them given out. Just ruins games and the enjoyment when you know you can't play properly in fear of it hitting your pads :(

So today, woke up this morning with no hope of a game. End up going and driving and arriving in to rain to an away game. We decided to reduce the game to 35 overs a side to increase the chance of getting a result.
I was smashing the ball around for fun on a wicket that was still awesome to bat on, ended up getting out to a ball that was going a foot down leg and went off my pads and back onto my stumps! I was gutted, made 31.
We ended up 117 all out. A good score considering we had a collapse in the middle order.
Then we bowled them out for 65, I took 7-29, my best figures ever, I had a triple wicket maiden! I even dropped a caught and bowled that busted my finger so it could have been 8!

Came in at 181-7 half way through the 43rd over. Got a 7 ball duck and we finished 182 all out with the one run coming off my foot after misjudging the line, length and pace of the bowler. I came on to bowl with the game all but lost at 110-2 off 26, got their opener out(who was in the mid 80s at this point) and the next over dismissed the other settled batsmen followed by their new batsmen next ball. Sadly I wasn't able to take anymore wickets(not helped by a variety of bowlers at the other end all bowling full tosses) and so ended up with 3-24 off my 7 in a losing cause. Not a brilliant day but it is better than playing no cricket at all.

Interesting one for us today. Shortened from 46 to 40 overs as poor weather was expected (it didn't materialise). We batted first and scored 259 ( a team record) and the mate of a mate who came in at the last minute due to lack of player scored 159, with 120 coming in boundaries.
The opposition openers decided that they wouldn't chase it (or at least it felt that way) with me and the other opening bowler failing to get wickets (but a hard wicket meant that I had at least 6 balls on a length go over the stumps), and not getting hit for runs. We got past 20 and they still needed 190, so they set themselves for a T20 run chase. As our lesser bowlers came into play, they still weren't making the required rate, and they ended up on 181, which works out as a win for us. I ended up with 10-2-26-2.
The opposition today included two guys with Blueroom bats.

For us it was t20 cup day. A round robin of 3 teams. League winner goes through.
Arrived it was raining, oposition(home side) did not want to set up, kept On saying it was a "coin toss day" and could we get it done as they wanted to go study the dogs,
Umpires thankfully had non off it, told them we was shortening game to 15overs and would atleast attempt a game.
Game started 20 mins late. Blue skies and sunshine for rest of day!
Found out why they wanted a coin toss. Bowled them out for 39 and knocked them off in 5overs without loss.
Second game, opponents put on 92 in 20 overs. We knocked them off in 17overs 5wickets down.
We won the group and through to round 2.

A few showers today but we got a winning game in against the 3rd in league. Which is good as we have just lost 12 points for two teams dropping out of the league, which meant we dropped from top to 2nd.
One of them we bowled out for 39.
So I have now not batted for a month since I was out for 4. Two conceded games, not needed when chasing down 39 last week and due to come in fourth today when our openers got to 112 chasing 144 to win. No. 3 helped knock them off and I stood and watched in the rain.
Might be all change next week as our captain goes in for a knee op so is unlikely to be playing for a while. Hopefully get some practice in a friendly on Wed.

An hour and a half drive for us to an away game.
Playing on an artificial surface >:(, although the pitch didn't seem awful! One end was covered in bird s***, and the other end was very damp. As well as this, the stumps were barely straight due to the poor quality of the holes to hold them in. Also throughout the game the bails were blown off by the wind... the result, they stuck them on with chewing gum ... to comments of 'So Village'
So the game. We won the toss and put them into bat.
They have a Sussex Vet opener who proceeded to smash 77 with ease (please see my other thread on this), with others chipping in around him, they declared on 212 after 45 overs. Giving us 48 overs to chase. Keeping I had one dropped catch which would have been impressive to say the least and 4 byes, which was a relief after the c**p bowling that was being served up.
We were behind the run rate early on and soon were batting for the draw. Personally I got 4 and then got bowled trying to pull a pie chucker into the English channel, rubbish ball, equally rubbish shot and an even rubbish-er track.
We got the draw 8 down.

Not a good Saturday personally. Stuck in to bat and I shouldered arms second ball I faced and although it missed off it cannoned straight into middle. First duck for almost 2 years. I did get a run out and a catch at deep midwicket and after our 203 we bowled them out for 84 so good day as a team!

We beat bottom of the league Saturday, a much needed win. They batted first and got 138-7 off 45. I bowled 10-3-32-2 so was pleased on my first real bowl of the season. ( nick Saunders wasn't needed to bowl - still think he's angry at me)
We then knocked them off only losing 4 wickets, nick batted at 3 and got a decent 28. I finished on 7no hitting the winning runs with a cover drive.
Great win for the team. Huge local derby this weekend

Won both days. One a relegation battle Saturday, they scraped up 138 which we knocked off for 4 down. Didn't bowl but it was one of those decks that was doing plenty for all the bowlers and a wicket always looked round the corner (Wasn't fussed Redders honest!, but Kaneo was in a state of shock and kept asking me if I was injured lol). Batting was alot tougher than I hoped, the deck never really dried out and I played a dirty 28 to keep things ticking over mid innings.
Just about got enough players together Sunday for the Marlow Vets team, ended up with 10, but a pretty handy 10. Won the toss and we spanked up 250-7 in 35 overs before declaring. Marlow's 2nd XI Number 11 top scored with 78 (batting at 4 on Sunday) and the overseas came in at 9 and switch hit the opening bowler for six, they weren't a great bowling attack but the runs proved vital. Oppo looked well placed at 145-2 just before the 20 overs, but we worked through the batting and bowled them out for 201 off 35 overs, they still had 9 overs to bat so had wickets been in hand things would of been mighty close. Got to 17 in good time before playing round a straight one, and took 1-30 with the ball. What a wicket though! It was turning and bouncing a bit but even so the ball pitched leg possibly even a touch outside and took the top of off. For such a high scoring game the wicket did plenty for both teams, spin and seam alike. It's funny how you can get games where the ball does nothing and it's a low scoring affair, then you play on a deck moving around and the scores double!

We then proceeded to bowl them out for 54..... 7-13 for our main strike bowler who was too hot for them!

Back to winning ways this weekend, had Chard 0-1,0-2,4-3,11-4 and then 26-5! They then recovered to 181 all out. We knocked them off 5 down, I got 37 opening but threw it away by ploughing one to long off :( But we're 3rd in Premier 2 so not all bad. Also, enjoyed a few pints with umpire Ian Blackwell after the game, top bloke!

Think I might give up - other half played her first game of cricket against a mens team tonight who play 3 leagues below mine and in a 16 over match she made 42 not out(!!), that is more than I've scored in my 5 innings all season!
I'll have to rethink where I put myself in the batting order to get more of a go, didn't get to bat in my game tonight but we won by 9 wickets in a 20 over game, chased down 111 in 11.5 overs. Opposition only had 9 and it was a little damp by the time we got the runs so felt a bit sorry for them. Up to 2nd in the league so pretty happy with that.

Game called off so as I was doing the teas I will be spending the day eating the two cakes I made! And my rival for the bowling cup is not playing today either so I'm still the leading wicket taker at the club unless one of the other 2nd teamers suddenly turns into the new Ian Botham. Another home game next week so hopefully we get some play next Saturday.

Big win against our local rivals yesterday. We got 214-5, I got some runs for a change and got 76not out.
We restricted them to 151-7, they never really went for the total which was a shame.

This is what I thought also. Silly rule....you can be facing someone who is swinging it a mile, if they hit you on the full in line the umpire must assume it is going straight, not taking into account any swing/movement.

Imagine a right arm leg spinner bowling over the wicket. Turning it a country mile. Bowls a full toss and hits the batsman in front. Umpire has to assume that the actual path of the ball would have continued. He can't make the assumption that the the ball would have turned. For the swing bowler, he needs to take into account the anticipated path of the ball.
In assessing whether the ball would have gone on to hit the striker’s wicket, it has to be assumed under Law 36.2(b) that the path of the ball before interception would have continued after interception, irrespective of whether the ball might have pitched subsequently or not.
In the case of the leg spinner above, chances are the batsman will be given out.
The left arm bowler bowling round the wicket, the only consideration the umpire needs to give is of the expected path of the ball. Just because the ball hit in line with leg does not mean that you should have been given out. The assumption here is that the ball has somehow straightened from its original path, if the umpire has assumed this, he is wrong.

This is a common misunderstanding amongst novice umpires - the assumption is a continued trajectory, not the disappearance of six feet from view - so the big looping swinger should be considered to have continued to swing by the same degree.

Poor season for me so far, just struggling to bat well/score runs, most likely trying too hard

Made 43 off 51 balls today batting at 3, highest score of the year so far but wasn't happy with myself getting out to a poor delivery with the run rate under control and unfortunately we lost our next 7 wickets for 60 runs so were all out for 156 chasing 181. The pitch was used and a little slow plus their young leg spinner was able to get some sharp turn so was quite pleased to be able to get through a tough period facing him as I've been making a real effort to improve my batting against spin.

Personally not in the runs again on Saturday but our team are doing well and won.
Had the pleasure watching a 14 year old team mate hit an unbeaten 135. His previous highest had been 53.
We set 262 in 45 overs and after an early onslaught by the openers scoring 90+ in under 15 overs we eventually broke through and finished them off for 171.
Sitting pretty at the top of the league but it will be tough to maintain until the end.

Won both days. Contributed very little individually. Got 1-24 off 4 yesterday bowling rubbish, misfielded a few, missed a couple of run outs and got 10 before going back to one that rolled. Similar story today, captained the side and batted 5, got 6 before being out to another pea roller (fed up). Managed to nail a few field placings with a couple of catches going there, and took my first slip catch and have to say it was fairly good!

Saturday- Played against Cheltenham CC, they amassed a whopping 305-4. Their opener scored a good ton, Gloucestershire's Richard Coughtrie played but only scored 20odd.
In reply we got to 50 without loss in the 7th over then I was caught at square leg from their Saffa overseas for 38 off 26. We never really got in to the chase and were bowled out for 230.
Sunday- Played an academy side from Sydney, Australia. They had some New South Wales and Australia under 19 players and were very useful! I was cleaned up for 8 off the quickie, but we scored 225 from our 40 overs. They knocked them of just 3 down! I took a wicket but they were always in front of us!

We fell 40 short of YMCA's 219-9 after letting them get 40 in the last 5 and dropping the guy who got 60. Real disappointing but come to expect it :(

Had a decent game yesterday.
Batted 8 for my team and went in with about 6 or 7 overs left. Hit 42 including to switch hits for 4 which I'm particularly proud of. Opened the bowling as well and took 1-35, I was a little more expensive then I wanted but we won be 130 runs and are still second in the table.

Played in a great game yesterday that finished in a tie. Played against Tonbridge Wells at the Nevile ground which is a county ground in Kent and it was a road, one of the best tracks to bat on in the whole of Kent I reckon. Opened the batting and got to 39 before being run out by my partner which on such a great track was disappointing. We scored 220 off 46 overs
In reply they went into the last over tied for 8 down and then we took the last 2 wickets with the 4&5 balls off the over including a very tidy stumping from myself and then a run out. All in all with lovely weather and an amazing ground it was a great game of cricket.

Good to see u continue to score runs mate and the lads commented on the fact u were a very talented player with bags of potential as you progress in the game.

Lost against a team we should have beaten. Their innings was based around one of their openers and their number 3 batsman who both scored 50's. Between them they had only scored one 50 this season(again against us the 1st game of the season) and both should have been out for far less. Opener got dropped first ball and their number three edged and slogged his way to 50 including being dropped twice at Cow corner by the same guy.. Luckily they had no batting after 5 so when we finally got through their top 4 they crumbled with one guy picking up 6-14 off 6. I ended up with 3-35 off 10 which was far better than both of our opening bowlers which hopefully might raise the question in the captains mind of why he decided to drop me from opening the bowling.
They ended up with 207 and our top 5 screwed us over. They batted slowly in the middle overs thinking that they could build up the rate later and then both settled batsmen got out in the same over leaving us with 60 to get off 7. We did well to get to 205 but it is very frustrating to see us lose a game from a winning position purely because the middle order neither attacked the bowlers nor stayed in 'til the end thus leaving us with too much to do.

oddly had a couple of debates umpiring yesterday - one rom a guy who was annoyed to be no balled when he stuck one a foot over the batsman's head - he thought it should be a wide had he not hit it but was otherwise okay, which it is not - and one from a spinner who ripped one out of the footmarks so that it was caught at second slip who did not understand that it was the width at the wickets not when it passed the batsman lured forward!

First game since May on Saturday. Managed to make mid 20's and then screwed it all up. Somebody on the opposition bounced out a few of our players, was really hoping for him to bowl me one but he never did :( We won in the end, 4 in 4. Team are doing well at the moment, even if everything isn't going smoothly.

When me and Peachey were going well I thought we had a good enough platform but a few soft dismissals and tight bowling saw you lot home. Fair to say we were all disappointed and against top of the league it shows what expectations we have

Played a Essex team called Orsted today and I have been lucky enough to play on 2 excellent batting tracks in 2 days. Orsted got 315-5 from 40 overs with the Aussie scoring a club record 196 ( he is also an opening bowler) we only had a development team so 6 under 18's but it was a great knock. The other opener had a lovely Vulcan bat and it went like a train.
In reply we managed 264-6 with my scoring a nice 60 until I got caught on the boundary. Although we lost thy where a lovely side and there was a nice breeze to keep us cool. So in 2 days I have been involved in over 1000 runs being scored between the sides and passed 700 runs for the season so not bad ll in all.

I've had 6 games called off now (only 1 down to us), so I've only played 4 games so far this season, and can't get into any kind of batting or bowling rhythm!
Need to either change clubs next year or get the Development side entered into a league!

Captained my work team last night, 3 of our 4 bowlers couldnt play, 3 of our 5 batsmen couldn't play.
Lost by 80runs, I got 4 then out next ball trying to do the same but not connecting.
My keeping (3rd time ever) was better but still let a few through.
A comical run out where out no3 ran into the junior crease on the next wicket, the ball was thrown in and the bowler tried to catch it, it ended up hitting the tip of his finger and then continued to knock the bail off (if it didnt hit his hand it would have missed), cue me giving the lad out.
But all in all an enjoyable game.

Played Collingbourne today, after getting moved up to the 3's from the 4's.
Batting at 3 (Which came as a complete surprise, highest I've batted since last year), I scored 14, before playing over the top of a straight one. Makes a change not to top edge and get caught out. :-[ We finished with 159 :(
Collingbourne knocked it off in about 27 overs, with us only taking one wicket.
One of their players had a GN refurbished by B3 (had B3 stickers) and an actual B3 which, sadly, I didn't get a chance to see after the game. >:(

We hit 263-9 off our 45 overs. I hit 86 with my Dynadrive, then I dragged one on! Gutted! That's my highest score.
Then we bowled them out for 60 I took 8-3-26-5 and my opening partner took 8-3-25-5.
My first 4 dismissals started on leg and swung to take off! My fifth did the same but was caught and slip!

had one guy out to a no ball which was called, our umpires were pressures by the oppo and changed there mind and then we had 2 blatent lbws turned down, one in front of middle just above ankle umpire said it was going over the bloke was on 2 then the same guy one going on to hit middle and leg he was on 40 odd and went on to 50 to win them the game, got 2 wickets in last over to nearly get a tie, missed run out with scores level off last ball, we panicked and messed it up, batsman would have been out by half a pitch

On what must be the hottest day I have ever played cricket in ( the temp gauge out our club reached 32 degrees we played 2nd in our league and for the first time this season bowled first. With a very I experienced league side 3 under 16's we restricted them to 234 from 46 overs. There opener decided he was Stuart broad and nicked off big style from a pull shot straight through and there umpire said not. Batter said it hit his lid with a lovely cherry on the shoulder of the brand new GN icon he was showing everybody before the game.
In reply we limped to 150 all out. I got 10 before cutting cut in half by there opener and having my middle stump sent tumbling back 10 yards ( he was very sharp and hopped it both ways) looks like we could be relegated after 3 league winning seasons.

I scored 7....it was a good 7 tho including a 6, bit crap really as only needed 20 to win by the time I got in!

Lost at least 2 trouser sizes in the field after loosing the toss, bowled them out for 183 ad chased them down for loss of 5 with 8 overs to spare.
I scored 7....it was a good 7 tho including a 6, bit crap really as only needed 20 to win by the time I got in!

Got to the oppo's ground and it was ridiculously hot! After having to field first last week in the blazing heat I was fearing the worst. That fear increased when I heard that we had lost the toss and yet the oppo captain decided to field first in the boiling heat. A decision his team didn't enjoy I don't think. Our batsmen smashed their way to 291-7 off our 45 and after a nice tea I took the new ball and struck almost immediately and regularly from that point on. When I finished bowling at the 14 over mark the opposition were 60-5 and I had taken all 5 of those wickets. Didn't bowl any more in the innings but did take a catch as we bowled them all out for 130 odd.
A very good day especially as I didn't get to bed until after 4am due to hosting a house party.

So after not playing due to personal reasons for a while, I started playing again last week where I got 24, but this week went well where I got 69* chasing to win the game. We chased down 163 in 30 overs 4 down, think that's 5 in 5 for us and going well. Just hope I can get some form now and kick on for the rest of the season.

On Saturday we posted 235-8 off 45 and they chased it down for 6 with an over to spare.
I got a ball on the end on the finger which only stopped bleeding 18 hours later and is swollen and bruised horrendously, I couldn't play today because of it. Just hope I can hold a bat & grip a ball for next weeks game now :(

Scored about 10 runs yesterday, bowled 8 overs for 30 odd runs and 3 wickets + 4 dropped catches off my bowling, would have had over 5 wickets but oh well stuff happens.

We won Saturday chasing down 163 for the loss of 7, I got 73 off 69 and hit one a little too well to long off needing 10 which was pretty disappointing.
Won Sunday too chasing 113 for the loss of 5, I bowled 2 overs for 1 run, got taken off and a nice DNB at number 8. Team game I guess.
On 722 runs this season so hoping to go past last season's 1012, then onto my best 1113.

Just got back from minor injuries, medically advised not to play this week, scoring duty for me this Saturday.
Been told if the swelling & bruising is gone and I strap it I might be able to play in 2 weeks. Industrial amounts of Arnoca will be used to ensure I only miss one week!

Been off of here for a while but recorded my top score for the season (47) last week, I needed 3 for my 50 and we needed 2 to win the match. Needless to say I got bowled before making it. Batting under a lid for 15 overs was inhumane in that heat.......

You have probably seen the pics but not heard about the game. We were playing Kenny's lot and crawled up to 136-8 off 45. It was very green the deck but we got into a mess by not scoring quickly and losing wickets - 46-5 off 22 or something. Shipston bowled well but not that well lol. Redders got 4 and I came in 9 and made 5, still nursing the Achilles back to health. In reply we bowled like drains and the big fat lad put bat to ball to race them to 84-1 off 14. They then collapsed to 114-9, before Kenny saw them home with 22*. I picked up 5-21 and found some turn on a green top. Felt confident with an LBW shout on Kenny but Shipston's ump wasn't playing ball :(. Good game but it was very hot!

on a forest of a track (was nearly as long as the outfield) it played ok and we scored 226-5 two guys hit 70's and i hit 20 from number 4 before being stupidly run out by a junior who nailed it straight at mid on called me through then sent me back from half way had no choice as he hadn't moved after shouting yes, but hey hit a quick 20 odd so im happy with that especially after playing the worst shot ive ever played last week, and we then bowled them out for 80 odd all round big win :D

I managed to double my top score, scoring 80* off 69 balls batting at seven today :D First ever 50 and managed to top score. Came in needing 150 off 20 overs, lost by 11 runs in the end to top of the table team.
Shame that their umpire decided that two yorkers on off stump were not out when I was bowling, created a pretty sour game.

We fielded first and restricted the opposition to 151-8. Took 4 for 38 and was happy with our performance as a team as the outfield was like glass and par score has been 180+
Got off to a bad start and were 40-4. A few people dug in, but then threw wickets away to some good catches ( including myself).
Ended up 150-9 with 2 overs to go. A maiden with my dad batting at 11 meant we needed 1 to tie, 2 to win off the last over. Guy facing was given out caught behind despite appearing to flick the ground. Umpire seemed to take an age to put his finger up.
Gutted at the result.

It got down to 15 odd to win and I tried to go for it, but only managed to chip a couple of balls just over fielders. One of their players came up to me and tapped me on the shoulder and then point to the RED INK on the back of my bat, I just calmed down and took an 87 not out!

Ended up with a a third ball duck again this week. After walking to the wicket and being told by the old boy opening, don't play your shots. So first ball defended, second ball wide so left, thirdball on a fantastic driving length, so went to drive and the ball spat up off the pitch pulled out of shot and ball rolled off the bat face and first slip took a tidy diving catch

Won by 25 runs yesterday against a team near the top of the league. Bashed 25 trying to up the run rate in the final overs, coincidentally the amount we won by which felt nice as the last few overs of our innings just put the score out of their reach. Bagged 2 catches, one was drilled very hard and only just reachable above my head, the other was a skier that I had to run in and dive to just reach. Think that makes me top catcher for the team this season.
Always good to win and even better when you've personally chipped in.

hit 80 today from opening really struggled to hit a ball after my 50 and drinks surely it should be the other way round, took 4 wickets for 58 (got hit for 4 6's on a 30 yard boundary) and there was 3 drops off my bowling, and the team won so all in all a good day.

Saw one of the 3rd team lads hit a quickfire 80 and saw a couple of good catches and a clean bowled by our lads before I left. Just wish I could have been out there too :(

Lost to Thornbury on Saturday. Batting first we struggled away to post 212, I got 26 before misjudging a ball and tamely looping it to mid-on. In reply we had them 90-5 and thought game on, but 2 young lads for them batted really well and got them over the line 5 down. One of them plays for Gloucestershire 2's and looks like he could have a future, another South African qualifying for England on the cards!

I have been struggling to score any runs but have enjoyed been part of a successful team. Last week I scored 9 and then top edged a full toss, it was going well and I felt very upbeat despite only getting 9. I was on top form fielding and we won comfortably.
So I was looking forward to Sat, eventually came out to bat in the 42nd over of 45. Blocked the first ball then played across the line at the second and was quite rightly bowled. Walked off disgusted with myself as it was utter garbage. My fielding was all over the place and we won again, it also looks like we have gained promotion.
I cannot get over the sense of frustration and despair each week brings. I am loving it though. I spend all week thinking about to do right next time I bat and half a second undoing it all again!

made 55 in a cup semi batting at 6, came in at 60-4 chasing 230, we lost too many wickets whilst I was batting after we'd gained some momentum, and in the end I was forced to take a risk and got bowled, lost by 40 runs

My poor run in T20 continues made 11 tonight but got a bit of a poor decision, given out caught behind off my pad :( not proud of my reaction I'm normally pretty good at accepting a bad one but I was so surprised to be given out I just shook my head and thanked the opposition for appealing for a catch off my pad, I think their wicket keeper knew it wasn't out, had to apologise to the umpire at change of innings.
We didn't bat well as a team, only made 117 for 7 in 20 on a ground where 160 is par but we somehow restriced the oppo to 112 for 7 so beating the team immediately above us in our league.

A new one for me today. Our match finished in "a draw"
Now a draw is obviously not uncommon for cricket with winning and losing draws as that is currently the format we are playing in the Birmingham League (I cannot wait for it to return to win / Lose as this season is a bit of a test). With rain approaching and batting second we knew an outright win was not possible as the numbers of overs were never going to get above 30. We had worked out winning draw totals at each over that we needed to be on. That said we went off due to rain after 28.4 overs. We were 1 run shy of the winning draw total for the end of that over so we were pretty deflated the umpires took us off the field when they did. The opposition were celebrating in their changing rooms when the news came through that scores were bang on level for 28.4 overs and a "draw" occurred.
I've been involved in a tie before, winning and losing draws obviously but never an outright "draw". Some reward at least

We had a rain effected game as well today. Won the toss and decided to have a bowl on a surprising green surface with all the weather. Turned to the pitch was more batter friendly had then 44-4 and they posted 205.
We were 160-5 with me getting caught at short leg from a pull shot I smashed into his armpit, how's your luck. When the rain game. Game was marred by there number 6 not walking on 4 and he made 60 odd. 10 points doesn't really do us any favours.

We was cruising at 160for5,which become 160for8 when the rain hit.
An hour sat twiddling our thumbs. And the rain stopped. Umpires told us to get on with it so of we went.
No.10 blocked out an over, then our skip smashed 11 off the next over then 6 of next to take us to victory..
Level with 2nd now, and 14 behind top!(25for a win)

Very frustrating day yesterday. We're top of the league and lost for the first time last week. This week we were up against a decent side who were relegated from our top division last year but rain was forecast from 7 onwards. Our stand in skipper made the wrong call and batted first - should have bowled to give us a chance of finishing early with a win before the rain, especially as the second place team were playing a weaker side.
We then opened with a guy who normally bats 7 which is absolutely the right place for him to hit the bowlers in the later overs. He played a cut to second slip first ball to leave us 1 for 1. Against the best attack we've faced we were about 60 for 4 and in similar situations last year had collapsed a number of times. I batted 6 and put on 70 or so with our number 3 until I chipped a spinner to midwicket. Really annoyed to get out but pleased with 39 as this week and last I've batted more sensibly than usual and avoided too many wild swings and cross line shots.
We ended up 218 for 8 off our 44 after our number 9 who hits the balls miles got 45 not out and outlet number 10 scored a few. Due to the oppo losing 5 balls in the undergrowth around the ground we didn't finish batting until 5 ish.
They made a decent start and were 75 for 2 off 22 needing 144 off 22 to win with their number 4 who is near the top of the league averages still there when the rain started and the game was abandoned.
The guy who got out first ball bowled a few overs of pace then for some reason our skipper let him try spin, 6 balls later we'd gifted them 12 runs. Pretty poor captaincy cost us yesterday but at least in our league we keep the bonus points from our batting when it was abandoned.

played a 3's game today and took 1-20 of 6 then got 6 batting, but there opening bowler took 5 in third team cricket bowling what I can only describe as rapid. He was dropped from open bowling from 1's to 2's then to 3's but F me he was easily bowling late 70's early 80's he bounced me and I didn't see it until it was in keepers gloves got out to a ball that nipped back next ball. In my opinion what's the point in this guy bowling off his full length run up and bowling very quick against genuine 3rd teamers who play for fun, and then giving batsmen send offs. seems pointless to me.

After a miserable performance from me last Saturday I was asked to play for the 2nds and not the 3rds, a total surprise.
I was nervous that the standard was going to be significantly better but in fact it was worse due to selection problems for the opposition.
We bowled them out for 68 and I was asked to bat at 3. We were cruising at 50 without loss when we lost a wicket so I ended up having to bat. In my first over I faced the slowest bowler I have ever faced and hit him for two fours. The other bowler was much better and I found myself facing the first bowler at the start of the next over with us requiring 2 to win. His first delivery was so juicy I took a big swing to leg but ended up missing and turned back and caught the leg stump with my trailing leg. So I did not last until the end which was two balls later but I was happy to get to 10 and play a part in our win.

Nope. Luckily the new replacement kooka sent me arrived on Monday so spent good time knocking it in only for this to happen first ball yesterday. Didn't seem to effect anything and also played in a Sussex league t20 quarterfinal today. We beat top of the league in a rain affected match after beating the second place team last week,shame we're not in a position to take advantage of it tho. Between our 1sts and 2nds we were 18 players down thanks to global gathering and holidays, so we had 4 frontline players missing.
Thankfully we won the toss and inserted them, managed to keep them to 170 odd ao giving us a few overs extra. With rain in the air we needed 97 from 25 overs. We lost a few wickets and I came in at 5 with us well behind the rate, the wind had picked up from no where and someone had turned the lights out. The rain was about to come and 25 overs hadn't been bowled meaning if there was no more play its be abandoned.
With the oppo fearing the worse they were rushing through there overs while myself and the other batsman also fearing the worse we're trying to slow the game down! I was trying my best to persuade the umpire that it was too dark and too wet to carry on but he was having non of it. Trying to up the run rate I hit 3 consecutive sixes into the corn field but each time it was found in seconds and returned back to the bowler, that didn't help delay the game either. I have to say the 3rd 6 was quite possibly the best shot I've ever hit. Straight drive back over the bowlers head far into the field behind while holding the pose for slightly too long! We had to go off for rain for a while meaning we still needed 22 runs in 3 overs for the 25 overs to be done and a result possible. I unfortunately perished going for another 6 to leave us just behind the run rate.
The rain came again and that looked to be it looking likely that we had lost the game. However we managed to get back on needing 16 from 3 but with only a couple of wickets left. Thankfully we managed to hit the winning runs from the last ball. Really great performance from a weakened team and I top scored which doesn't happen too often!

We played the same team today in our Sunday Aero development league as we played in the rain abounded league game yesterday. I won the toss and choose to bowl.
They were 90-0 off 18 when I decided to bring myself on. I'm a wicket keeper by trade but bowl a bit of medium pace at times any way returned figures of 5-3-5-9 which is my best ever figures and they ended up 169 all out. We then knocked them off for 3 with me scoring 35 not out and I took 2 catches so all in all a good finish to our development league season.

Saturday we fielded first, restricted them to 149. We got that within 20 overs, thanks to our captain's 113*. I opened and got my first duck of the season thanks to a ball which unexpectedly popped up and I lofted back to the bowler. We have now won 6 on the trot.
Yesterday I played for a friend's team as my normal Sunday team had no fixture. Game got reduced to 30 over game as rain meant we couldn't start until 3.30. They posted 200 with one batsman scoring 98. I took 2 catches.
I batted number 5, coming in needing 8/9 an over with my friend who's team it is. We put on 50 together before he got out, then me and the next batsmen managed to finish the job in the last over needing 5 to win. I hit 28* including first 6 of the season.

Good luck! You'll always get the odd pro play in our league as well. Couple of years back Chris Wright was bowling before he got his initial loan deal at the Bears. Mickleburgh still plays... Westley, Pettini & Wheater have done in previous years off the top of my head as well. Jason Gallian still turns out!

I would not like to be fielding as part of a five its hard enough when you have 9 or 10. Earlier in the season we played a team that started with 7 and the eighth turned up part way through. They also evened up the numbers when one of our fielders broken a finger trying to take a catch. It dawned on me when we let them bat first that they could score a lot of runs as you only use 2 at a time, so its not such a disadvantage while batting, just fielding. Thankfully we bowled them out for 98.

Have had a terrible season with the bat, just can't do a thing right at the moment. Luckily my bowling has come on this year otherwise I really would be struggling to keep a spot in the team. It's very rare that I'm in form with both ball and bat...

Played yesterday in the league bowled them out for 110 and we chased it down easily. Game was spoilt though by 2 batsmen getting huge nicks through to me and neither walked and there umpire said both just turned. The first was the worst I have seen in 20 years playing.
Today we played Lordswood in a development match. We scored 185 and they won quite easily. They had a Kent 2nd player who played and opened the batting. He was class and scored 70 in 10 overs. Only thing I would say was I don't know development he got smashing 14 and 15 yr olds all over the ground? Still he showed my medium pace respect :D
Scored 24no sat and 18 today so not a great weekend run wise

Restricted the oppo to 187 yesterday. A very getable total on a sporting wicket. We were 110 - 2 off 27. Then 123 - 7 off 38. Ended 135 all out. Twice in two weeks weve been cleared out with moderate totals in sight. An ok 34 opening up. Chipped a caught and bowled back to a leggy. 11 weeks earlier I shouldered arms on middle so making progress!

Pretty cheesed off for the 2nd Saturday in 3 we're done in 3 hours including tea - today skittled the opposition for 48 (really enjoyed my 1 ball spell >:( ) on a decent track & 2 weeks ago bowled the opposition out for 70 (28 for 9 they were until the number 10 slogged a few) and knocked it off after 11 overs. Feels very much like a wasted day especially as its not that bad a standard (in theory).

Been playing some form of organised cricket since 1974 and on Wednesday night I took my first hat-trick.
Best mate caught the first, my son caught the 2nd and the 3rd was stumped - brilliant feeling even at 50.

Today was my first match for the 1sts since my knee injury in June and I was astounded at how poor my fitness had become in a few weeks and also how poor my batting had become. I had about 10 overs at the end of the innings (in a match that had already got away from us) so could play with freedom and I was struggling to hit it off the square to some fairly gentle bowling. I had some juicy leg stump balls that I just couldn't connect with and was getting more and more frustrated. I saw out the overs but for a very low score. I'm now in the position of debating whether to put in the practice when there is only 3 weeks left of the season or use the time to just get my knee right and work on my fitness.

We were in control yesterday until some cheat with crayola tatts did a Broad to his second ball and hit the cover off it, didn't walk and got 123. Heads went down a bit.
Then, in our reply we were treated to ten overs of right arm chuck and ended up 8 runs short. Crap day really...

Losing draw chasing 261 yesterday. We ended 208 -8. Was out LBW first ball from right arm round the wicket (im a lefty).
Struggled to see the funny side as the ball was swinging from off to leg so just assumed it wouldnt have hit another set on the angle. Nice of the umpire to say that I took his decision well after the game!

cheers pal! pleased with form this season but although i have five 50s, only one of them went past 60. I'm keen to start turning them into 70s and 80s, although i get fatigue in my forearms from gripping the bat hard.

I went on a Stag do Saturday night and got in at 5.30 am. Sunday we went to go play away against a team that has about 6 Afgans, 4 of whom have represented Afganistan at some level and 3 now play various county 2's. Their quick was on a hat-trick ball as I came out to bat needless to say I played with a gate so wide I may as well have been shoulder-armsing it and was on my way to one that nipped back onto the top of off.

After our cracking game of cricket at Stone with CBF on Thursday, we turned up on Saturday with 8. The first team nicked some of our players, and holidays meant we had no cover. This meant I had to bowl (those there on Thursday will laugh).
I bowled my 10 overs, claiming 4 wickets. Albeit I was a bit expensive, but considering I've never had to bowl on a Saturday before I was pretty happy. All bowled as well, the first 3 were leg stump, off stump then middle stump. Opened batting and got 14. Was playing quite well until I tried to hit a spinner into the leg side. Missed and ball hit off.
Followed that up with an 8 over spell yesterday, claiming 2 wickets and having our club 'Dropper' putting down a dolly. Got a duck though, all this bowling tired me out I think...

Rain, rain and more rain not really done us any favours really. Although we were playing top of the league we would have fancied getting more then the 10 points for the rained off match.

Got thrashed today on an extremely green and wet wicket, but look at their score card. We dropped their top scorer 5 times a couple were very hard chances but the others should have been taken. Their top 4 scoters got 80 odd, 60 odd, 13 then 2! We had them 4-1run bowling first and we thought we were onto a winner.....

Lost at Harborne today in a good game of cricket. Green deck with a bit in it for the seamers but more for the spinners even though the turn was slow. Pretty much put an end to our promotion hopes but will be trying to win our remaining 4 games nonetheless

Got a game in today although didn't think we would after all the rain yesterday, outfield was a little wet but wicket was covered. They got 121 all out. The pitch was very quick with excellent carry and our tall opening bowler had them jumping and hopping all over the place
We got it for the loss of 4 I got 39 before being strangled down the leg side, well its good enough for half the test batsmen at the moment lol.
Got a nice all day game to look foward to tomorrow as well which is a great way to spend bank holiday Monday.

Same here mate, what's your format?? Ours is essentially a timed game, 11 o'clock start, lunch at 1, tea at about 4, bowl 20 overs 6 o'clock. (Or something like that, I can't remember the exact times of breaks)

Lost our game on Saturday which means we have to win our last one to definitely stay up!
Our bowling and fielding was pretty slack allowing them to get about 20/30 runs too many. Took a one handed catch that went over my head so was really happy with that!
Was given the rare opportunity to open the batting and managed to score 70 (New highest score). :D

This season has not been as good as I would have expected, haven't converted starts of 15 - 20s into something big (though playing in a very short 25 over format, and coming 7-8 down in most of the games). Bowled quite decently most of the season. Last game was a cracker, scoring 176 in 1'st innings, went down till 2'nd last ball (3 runs from 2 balls) but we ended up losing :-[.

Well it was a routine relegation battle for us on sunday. Playing second from bottom, set a big score and they never looked like getting it, now we are 1 point in front with one game to play!

Passed 500 runs for the season this weekend during an 89 ball knock of 68*. We ran out 10 wicket winners against local rivals, chasing down 139 for no loss.
My 2nd XI average is now a healthy 46. 507 runs for the season which puts me 3rd in the league behind two absolute stalwarts who I'm hoping to pass during the last 3 games!
Still can't get in the 1st XI.

Passed 50 league wickets at the weekend taking my 6th 5WH of the season. (Currently 54)
Also passed 200 league runs in my 6th innings batting at 7 (Strong top order) with a knock of 28* from 29 balls.
Been a great year. Hopefully the final two league games get me to 60 and 250!

Interesting end to the season. Skipper decided to mix up the order so put me in to open(despite having only gotten a few hours sleep after a night out) and I struggled. First ball inside edged it narrowly missing leg stump. Two more edges through the slips followed as I moved onto 11(all off the edge) before getting out in the 7th over trying to pull a short ball from outside off... We made 215 in the end and I took two early wickets leaving them on 18-3 off 8 overs in reply. Then their big hitting Indian(on his final game for the club) came in and smashed a century and took the game away from us. They eventually chased it down in the 35th over for the loss of 5 wickets and I ended up with 3-50 off 10(That's after my first 3 overs were maidens..) along with a catch.
On a more positive note, our 2nds won and got promoted.

Today was a friendly match against Matt from H4L's home team of Woodchurch, touring down our way.
From 40 overs Woodchurch reached 243-7. Like most days for us, if a few catches were taken here and there it could've been a lot less.
I opened and in reply we got off to a rocky start with our no.2 falling early, and our no 3 fell for just two runs at about the 50 run mark.
3rd wicket partnership was worth 110+ runs. Sadly (for me) I fell for 82 off 89 in 85 mins - though I think I should have been out 3 times, 2 drops and 1 LBW not given that I thought was out.
Runs needed were decreasing whilst wickets were being lost. We got to 243-8 - needing one run from two overs.. until we lost our last two wickets!
So match tied!
Brilliant close game - all helped along by the Shoreham airshow going on above us.

Anyway, I took him for 17 off one over without hitting it off the carpet and continued in that vain. He was asked if he'd come on for his second spell and the poor lad pretty much refused. Said 'what's the point' 'he'll just smack me' etc etc.. so, after the first two of his return overs (where I'd carefully just picked up a few singles as I felt for him) we needed 5 to win...

Made him feel a whole host better (I did hide the fact I intentionally missed it quite well).. I'm sure few would do that themselves but I thought it was a nice thing to do in the end.. Just want to see what else you guys would have done really out of sheer interest

Your actions will probably have saved that lad from giving up on the game altogether, or at least considering it. I think most of us would have done a similar thing in that situation.

Not a bad first season for me - 58 runs batting anywhere between 7 and 10, and 6 dismissals for the season behind the stumps. It would have been more if our bowlers had actually found the edge, instead of just beating it consistently. Planning on putting in some hard work through the winter, and aiming to beat this season's totals in division 2 next year.

Would like to gauge opinion on this: We play in a 10 team division that is reduced to 8 with two early season withdrawals. 1 of the remaining teams is struggling to put a side out (when we played them there were 4 or 5 youngsters) but is plugging along until August when they stop fulfilling fixtures. The quirk is that the only game they have won is against the team in 2nd place. We are in 1st place going into the last week of the season (aware that there were issues with the other team) needing a win to win the division. We put in a good performance and win only to find out today that the bottom club has been kicked out and with the recalculation of points (all points against the withdrawn team becoming void) we finish 2nd.
Would you just shrug your shoulders and say that this sort of thing happens or take action?
PS I'm not sure if finishing 2nd affects promotion or not as there is a possible league restructure for next year.

looking to end the year on a high before I leave to go back to my old club and try and rejuvenate the struggling team on the pitch, will be my first season as a captain next year so really looking forward to it

Managed to get back to back promotions with our sunday academy side made up of 8 under 15's and 3 adults, 2 of which are 19. Managed to chase down 213 with 7 overs to spare, so a seriously good season for such a young bunch of lads

209 league runs at a shade over 16 for me. Comfortably the most I've scored in a league season (Think 109 was the highest before!) All in all, 255 for the season, 3 runs short of the most I've ever scored for a season. Still searching for that elusive first 50, but at least I've been consistently (for me) scoring 20s and 30s. Just need to convert those starts next season...

We're playing bottom of the league today weather permitting. Theres talk of us reversing the order and batters bowling , but I'm more of the opinion that we should play proper cricket and make it difficult for them. Nothing worse than taking the mick for an hour and then trying to turn it round to still create a winning position when the role reverse hasn't worked.

Managed to get a 30 over a side game in today vs Thurrock. One of the coldest, windiest days I can remember playing in, they scored 143 all out we managed 131 in reply.
Couple of they players had some forum brands, a lovely lovely Laver private bin that hit one of the biggest 6's I've seen all year and a BB with blue and yellow star stickers on the splice which in the right hands would have been lovely, the owner padded up to a full toss lol

Managed to nearly win a T20 today.
The opposition got 129 off their 20 overs, we were 92-3 off 8 in reply when the heavens opened.
On a personal note I bowled 3 overs, 1 maiden 0 - 7 at the death (would happily take those figures) then was 10* off 5 balls.
My innings was rather good to watch apparently. It went: dot ball having a waft, 2 leg byes, 1 bounce 4 from a pull shot, cover drive that scorched the turf en route to the fence, 2 from an off drive down the ground.
Had we carried on playing it probably would have been over in 2 more overs the rate me and the bloke at the other end were going at haha.

Personally I scored 755 runs, and 5fifties. No ton, first tonless year in 4 season. Gutted.

Awful season with the bat only managed 300 odd runs at half my average from the 2012 season.
Bowling wise managed 39 wickets at 12.62 (economy 2.78) with my medium pacers / cutters, as my home grounds pretty flat can't complain - especially decent second half to the season.

We were asked if we wanted to play by the umpires (wet and green but would have got better with spikes and as tge day went on) we said yes.
The oppo said no. Waste of a day. They then came and watched our 2nds all day. Strange creatures.

Thinking back to away game on a artificial pitch, I was fielding at Gully, the guy tries to cut and I see the ball coming towards my right at speed along the ground. You think, 'hmm it's going to be tough to reach this one'. So I dive and make a flailing sweep at the ball making the slightest of contacts with my middle finger but just enough to deflect it and slow it down fractionally enough for the sweeper to come around and stop it just before the boundary.
The funny thing is, lying there I hear someone shout, "Yeah, that's real cricket !!! ", and the 'crowd' went wild !!!
No, not really. It was just some guy getting carried away on the boundary.

Haha no I'm in good form, 91 off 15 overs, 56 balls, 63 off 18 overs, 50 balls, and 53 today off 8 overs, 29/30/31 balls... Yea I'm doing well :) what sucks is that the coach says I should only bowl 2 overs per game, because "I'm scoring runs" :((( free king annoying ;)

Well result, after missing the last saturday league game of the season last week due to a family holiday (gave into the nagging of booking at this time of the year) I've been 'permitted' to play in a Sunday friendly tomorrow before packing the kit away for another long winter (probably trying not to increase my willow collection too much!) :)
Oh but I have the ringing in my ear of no Sunday games next year - I've managed 5 or so this year including a couple at picturesque grounds on the whole in the Peak District (in addition to Saturday league cricket).

Got a nice little 35 over game in today. We batted first on a nice hard track and managed to score what we thought was a below par 129-7. I got a quick fire 67 at the top of the order but we struggled to find the boundary in the last 6 overs. Highlight of the innings was getting off the mark with a mistimed pull shot that went straight up only to watch the keeper and slip stare at each other and ball land I between them both.
Then with the game seemingly going away from us one of our bowlers took a tumble and twisted his ankle giving me no choice but to bowl as we only had 4 bowlers anyway. Managed figures of 5.1 overs 3 maidens 4 wickets for 8 runs and we won by 7 runs. Had a lovely drink and chat afterwards with the oppo so a great Sunday game.

Think season has ended may be a good thing as whenever taken aeriel routee. Hve been caught.
I think I may have gone whole season without being dropped think I may hve been dropped once in first game of seasonwhen I got 80.

As the Northern Hemisphere winds down the season down under is only a few weeks away, we have our first warm up game this Sunday against another team from our club who play in the same grade so I'm sure it will be well contested. Grounds still a touch wet here so it's on a rubber duchy. Now to decide which bat to use, Puma, Bulldog or H4L.

Winding down! I still have 2 games this weekend :). If I could drag it into October I would, as long as it stays mild. I'll take my hat off to the British weather, not one league game lost and it's been mostly dry/sunny since early May, my way. Seems like it's compensated for the terrible 2012. Somewhere I have some pics of our track looking like crazy paving during June/July!

Finished the season with just under 900 runs from 30 innings, average of around 30 and 15 wickets.
High score of 255 and best bowling figures of 3-34.
Personally a disappointing season as I never felt like I was in form all season and I would've liked to have bowled more. I fielded well only dropping one catch all season, ended up with 17 catches and 7 run outs.

One innings in the course of a poor season. Say I got 20 there I would've only got 700 runs in 25+ games. I'd like to think I'd do better than that.

Haha that was the plan for next season but having been put on a coaching course by the club and my brother being in the youth set-up I thought it would be wrong for me to leave now. Who knows what the future holds...
Still not as good as Tom though.

Played our last game of 2013 today against Warlingham from Croydon way. Started at 12:30 and played a 40 over game, finished the season with a nice 113no and the team scored 226. We bowled them out for 187 so really nice to finish with a win. All in all a very good season topped off by some lovely weather. Here's hoping for the same next season.

Scored my fourth ton of the season in our last game yesterday taking me one run ahead of the next highest run scorer who I had a £50 bet with on getting the most runs. Very sweet.

Had a top score of 97*, hopefully kick on over the winter and advanced through the teams!

Nothing wrong with giving it a go up there though, you'll improve on their deck no doubt and will play on better wickets een if you're in the 2's. Food for thought

Got to play 3 friendlies last week and did not do badly for myself - except injuring my shoulder while fielding.
Got a 48, 35 and 22 in these 20-over games. Considering that I am picking up the bat and cricket after a gap of 10 years - confident that I will hold on for the whole season.
As far as the shoulder injury goes - well, its x-ray and the doc this evening..

Opposition have already called off as they couldn't raise a side Bit of a relief as we had 6 out and only had 11 with fill-in players . However, the mother in law is down so if anyone in somerset/Devon/Dorset needs a player let me know.
