Apart from Newbery(picked up few more bats- Kudos Player, SPS and 7even,
I also visited another supplier who we work very closely. Selected our bats after going through all his stock. Total time spent was 6 hours and every single bat in stock was tapped and picked on performance. Lets see if you can guess where was I , will post photos tomorrow

Looking at the pictures I may have to sell a kidney to fund a finite! ;)

Sorry Dave at present it is difficult to say but I selected the lightest clefts i could find as I wanted Big bats to be made under certain weight
-
What shape are the SLX & Supernatural going to be Asad?
SLX and Supernatural are both Round face bats
-
Good stuff the way it should be some beauty's there to be had
-
The new HH softs are excellent really nice and at great price point. Really glad that the retailers seem to really like the HH range and will give great access to customers for amazing handmade bats made to same high standards as Salix at a cheaper price point.
Those if finite clefts look amazing Asad I think people will struggle to find nicer blades anywhere. Lovely selection Asad.
-
SLX and Supernatural are both Round face bats
Can you say whether they will be concave or convex please?
-
Can you say whether they will be concave or convex please?
Soulman 1012 should be able to answer this

I was told by Andrew that we will receive few from each model before Christmas and rest after that. Can't wait to see the end product.
-

I think that is a very very bold statement and im sure a few forum sponsor will have something to say about that ....

He is entitled to his opinion and to be fair, some of those clefts look magnificent...
-
of course he is but he has connections with Salix. I personally have 10 bats better than that and have seen BB, B3, Aldred and Red Ink post bats better looking than them ....... off course that's my opinion and may not be mirrored by others.
Anyway, this forum needs to make its mind up ...........
2 of those bats have heartwood on them .... so are they grade 3 or 4 or do the people on here know better than the top batmakers and international players????
-
Anyway, this forum needs to make its mind up ...........
No it doesn't - we can all air our opinions subject to the rules of the forum - that's the joy of having a discussion based forum.
Unless of course people have an axe to grind, then it just get's boring!
-
Asad - before pestering you and my bank manager, what are the price points for these bats?
Thanks add KR.

I'll add these to our web site very soon, any particular one you are after.
Members can chose any of these clefts and have their bat made in their weight.

Yes I do have a connection to Salix through Hitshard but as you will see from my collection of willow I own many bats and see many many clefts on a weekly basis, I can say that you would not find many better clefts because in my opinion that's true, you may find equally nice clefts but the reason Salix is held in such high regard is how they turn lovely clefts into amazing bats, there are in my opinion only a couple of people in this country that are able to produce a bat as good as Kember. And by that statement I mean the whole of the bat making process from finish and appearance to pressing and performance, this has been achieved over a long period of time and there are many very talanted people on this forum that in time I'm sure will be as good and indeed im happy to use there product as well.
-
I have just deleted my reply as I saw your reply and it says basically the same what I was going to say. In my view Andrew and Tim are the top bat makers in UK.

Soulman, a very very good reply. I have to agree Salix bats are very very good, ive dealt with Andrew and Vicky before and they are great. I believe their bats are on par with MH and the mysterious TK. just to be clear, I was basing my point on looks of the cleft rather than performance/finished bats.
-
Hi Asad,
I was tentatively interested in the Supernatural performance grade prices.
Thanks
-
I will look into the prices and let u know

Great minds think alike mate :D
To follow that up I would say personally that AJK and TK are not just the best in the world but along with Julian Millichamp and possibly the head guy at SS the best quartet in the world at there given trade.
Again to point out that is just my opinion based on what I have used, seen and read.
-
Does anyone know whether the new Salix bat shapes are convex or concave?

I believe you're missing out a podshaver out in New Zealand! ;) You should try one, although ask for it about 1-2 ounces below your ideal weight! :-[

I was waiting for someone to pick me up on James Laver, personally I have used one although it was bought from here 2nd hand but I must say I was unimpressed with it. Pick up was poor, handle was tiny and performance not much. Also like you say why should I need to get one under my ideal weight? Surly if your one of the best in the business I should not have to. That's just my view and I'm sure in the future I will get another (the one on eBay is tempting me big time) but I feel personally not quite as good.

My Laver came in dead on the weight I asked for.
And it pings like stink. The handle is quite thin however.
-
I asked for 2'9 and got 2'9, it's a cannon now after a lot of time softening up in the net.
Agree the handles are skinny.

Have to take into consideration that it's slightly drier at times at the workshop! Mine have all put on weight, (probably because there's more moisture in the air in Scotland), but perform well, I think you may have been unlucky with your one!

I have just been told that we had a pre Christmas delivery of Salix bats, many thanks to Ben and Andrew to sort these out for us. will post photos but I know these will be exceptionally good as the willow was selected by me and Andrew. will post photos later today

Lovely looking bats there, Salix always deliver cracking bats. What's the key differences between the different models of bats, hard to tell from photos. Middle positions/ concaving much different between the 4 models, all seem similar from photos.

Good question, i need to look at the bats to answer ur question, but i do know 1/2 of the range is flat faced
Pod - Flat Faced
SLX - Round
Torque - Flat
Supernatural - Round
Praestantia - Flat
Wasp - Round

Asad bhai I know you pick on performance and not looks but I do have to say that I am surprised by the looks of the some of these bats. I would assume Salix grade one and Players to look a lot better than this, considering their strict grading / high standards etc. Hope these are belters but as has been said about a lot of other brands grade 1's and players don't look like the grade they are rated at and what's a even bigger shock is that this is from Salix. To me almost all of them look like "Performance" grade except for a few, is this the start of when we as customers notice the impact of shortage of true grade 1's in the industry!!!

yeah I was thinking that too, gone down the line where your top grade is not the top anymore as there are more models above it...but essentially the wood is lower grade with a top grade name and price.....i could be wrong, what do i know...

you have summed it up really well and sorry they don't like impressive but these were the best i could find with keeping in mind the performance.

Just out of interest Asad what is your primary indicator of performance? Mallet, bouncing a ball, finger tapping?

All 3 if i have time otherwise finger tapping and mallet

Having used multiple bats from Asad, blind buys as I live in Canada, I can tell you whatever method he uses to judge the performance works mate. Every single bat has been really really good, I think he can talk to the bats :o

How much are those Wasp Selects please Asad?

Tushar, in fairness to Asad, we took all the best Salixes, so couldn't have been much left for him! ;) :D

So how is it worked out who goes to where when? Is it just random luck or is it done on the size of your account? I'd have assumed they'd pander to their bigger customers? Everyone will have 'excellent relations' given the size of most forum sponsors.

Salix is a bit different to most as they are making bats all the time, so every day there is a new batch to look at. Asad is right, he went about a week earlier than Chris and I did, but in that time, Andrew and his team had handled some new clefts, which Asad apparently hadn't had the chance to look at.
No real pecking order in terms of "bigger customers" with Salix, although they do offer Barringtons exclusivity for the AJK range.
-
I think they should invite all retailers down on one day and have a massive Royal rumble to work out who gets first pick

What about the main guys like GN, GM etc? I did love Kook when I wandered there to pick kit but again is that done randomly or by contract size? Of course they might be getting new stuff in too every so often but I'd we assume you want your kit ASAP on new range day erc

GM don't let you hand-pick at all, and it's one of the main reasons we don't stock them any more...
GN are pretty fair - they tend to let Asad in before we get a look in, though! Maybe that will change over time, though! ;)

Not always done by size. I am guessing talent cricket order more than us but we visited Gray Nics long before them. We visited before Paul too but that is not necessarily an advantage. There were no Vortex or Powerspots available for me to handpick, whereas Paul had a wide range to choose from.
The bigger brands get regular deliveries starting from November right through to early season. There is always something new to see. And despite what anyone says, it is impossible to look at every bat when visiting the biggest suppliers. There are simply too many to choose from.
-
I don't think we are in fight with each other. Can't discuss our relationship with suppliers as this is not the place. we all have our own way of hand picking bats and at the end of the day I am pretty happy what we have in stock. I would like to hand pick my bats when there is loads of stock and Yes i do go through majority of the stock. I think Paul can witness that when he was with me at Slazenger. I have been hand picking bats since we started our business.
Main thing for forum members and our customers is that they can buy us with confidence.
I won't go any further than what i have said and if any other forum sponser want to add more then they are more than welcome

which of the salix range has the lowest middle?
maybe the pictures dont do them justice but they all seem very skinny towards the toe area which is something that puts me off about them.
obviously not the ideal spot to be hitting on the bat, but digging out yorkers and fullish deliveries is not ideal coming off a skinny toe.
everyone on here seems to rave about them so they obviously are class, and a review i watched recently stated they are one of the best brands in the UK.
-
id say the Prestantia has the lowest middle, as that is the one designed for the player that likes to drive the ball, I do know what you mean regarding the toes but I have had many, many salix bats. I only ever had an issue with one which I sent back and they repaired it in two weeks and sent out a replacement that I could use in the interim (as it was still in season) and I know they have done something a bit different this year to the toes, go have a look at one in the flesh to see. You wont be disappointed with the way a Salix plays............
there is always the option of contacting Salix to ask for a thicker toe too ?? like others have said they make bats year round

I use low or mid-low middle bats, hence my hesitation in buying salix bats, but I got a torque last year which worked very well entire season for me....

thanks Yogi,
i would love to go visit, but being from Aus makes that 1 very expensive bat....maybe my boss could give me a yr off (with pay) to go check all these workshops out and i could bring them all home with me. :D
watching all the videos and pics of tours makes me very jealous that im not living in England atm, although its probably not an ideal time to travel as an aussie over there i might not come back alive.
everyone rates them highly so im sure i wouldnt be disapointed in them. Im just narrowing down my potential list of companies and atm thats becoming very difficult.

I notice that there are HH bats listed as G1?
I thought the whole point of the HH brand was to offer bats below G1 willow as that was the market Salix were filling/offering? Thus given them a change to offer the same profiles and quality of finish but from the different grades of willow outside what would be reserved for the Salix brand when purchasing in bulk from the willow merchant.

Tom you are possibly correct, i am waiting for description of HitsHard bats from Salix. In the grade section on their price list it says Super G1 hence i wrote down G1 but will correct it once i have the description from Salix.
-
Yes I managed to find a price list on their FB page that listed G1 as well mate so seems they are looking to offer it which suprised me hence the question.

If they are G1, then it's a fair price, seeing as the Grade One Pod now sells for £285. Assuming both are graded the same, the Pod is around £45 more expensive, and 3rd on the grading order on the Salix range...
I really like Salix, but I just don't agree with the Finite grading. Two seasons ago, a Players bat was made from the very best willow possible for around the £300 mark. (I think the AJK range wasn't around then) Yes, I understand that prices have to go up, but now, a Grade One bat is the same price as a Players was, except it's the third highest! It sounds crazy to say that the willow this season is better than the willow 2 seasons ago, but it seems like that's what the new grading suggests! I think this is what puts me off purchasing another one for the brother - I would be much better off buying a HH…
Rant over, I think I really have to see these bats in flesh before finalising my thoughts - I hope that you still have some in stock which will prove me wrong when I visit, Asad! :)
-
Personally, would prefer it if Salix had added a grade lower down their range to further differentiate their grading if they needed too, keeping the Players at the top in the pure Salix range and raise the price if justified.
Also, a bat with the name Grade 1 should really be exactly that grade.
For 2014, there are two grades of theirs which are higher than this (putting the AJK brand to one side).
The big question though and the clue may be in the name, is how many Finite bats will be made as a proportion of the total? If it is really only a very few then perhaps not too much has changed and much better value can be found mid-range.
Retailers such as Uzi Sports here can only stock what the makers brand the bats as though.
Thank you for posting the photographs of your Salix bats.

An intro- I have been down with Andrew for the last few days machining bats, I am Part-time Pete those of you who have visited for custom bat fitting on saturday mornings i was probably the one who selected the raw clefts with you! Had some superb time working with Ben and Ian then a couple of days with AJK. I m the contact for the HitsHard website that will be up and running soon, Vicky is just putting the finishing touches to the Salix website. as you can all well imagine this is a busy time of year for Salix to get setup for the year ahead and the cleft to blade perfection that you all enjoy so much that is the key to Salix is that extra effort that we are looking to get. Hope everyone is looking forward to an exciting season ahead and a summer of great weather, willow and leather.
Pete

It's great to hear that Salix have more staff on board. Hopefully those 6-month turnaround times for bats are ancient history now!
I am sure a lot of people on here envy you, Pete. Best of luck with it, and keep up the good work! :)

Unfortunately as my name suggest i will only be helping part time at the moment, but will be helping to get bats in to the shops hands where i can. I was at the Lords show last year and met a few of the shop guys on here, just a nod, but a name to a face is better than a voice over the phone!

we have received some more bats from Salix from our selected willow when we visited them before Christmas
i have taken photos of 2 Finite bats, will post the rest in the next few days
