Massive SF Cricket Bats New in Stock! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Odb_rTTPZY#ws)
-
I saw these (at another retailer, I didn't buy anything Paul, honest) and they look awesome and the ones they had really did ping.
Well done Paul for expanding your range and bringing even more choice to us who live in London and get the chance to visit.
-
I must echo your comments on the size and impressive grains Paul. We have stocked SF in the past and the bats as well as the softs were very impressive. I only have one bat left.
We would still be stocking them were it not for a few behind the scenes issues, I hope you don't come across the same problems.
-
Hi Paul your answer to your question how you get a monster bat like the top of the range SF could lie in the width of the blade I would be interested to know
-

Matt @H4L makes bats with these dimensions all the time. Not sure how, but he does.

Good point, Gary. I haven't measured the blade width of these bats, so will do that tomorrow. They seemed normal width to the naked eye, but the naked eye isn't always right!

Not quite, Matt. The NV is close, though, but still tend to be 2.10/2.11 at these specs, and I've never seen a Tempo under 2.11...
-
Hi Paul. They do exist just very rare!
Here are my 2 match bats for this season. Both bats have 2 grips and scuff sheets, both under 2.11

Adam, where were they the last time I visited you guys?! ;)
Please contact me as soon as one of these becomes available again!!
-
I liked the look of the SF softs but would love to see them in the flesh but no-one near me sells them. Bats look huge too
-
they all looks awesome. wouldn't complain if i had any of them in my kit bag
-
Will do. We have more willow coming very soon so will put some aside.
-
SF Limited Edition bat has sold now, the other two are still available...
-

Thanks, Adam. Yes, I texted Matt today and requested some lighter HellFires and NVs, but some Tempos in similar weights to yours would be extremely tempting too! :)
-
I saw a few SF bats last season and they were awful. Certainly not a match on these.
There was a rep selling them out the boot from local word so maybe they were rejects. Those bats look very good mate.
-
The Sapphire from online stockist is £105. How you can charge over double for the same bat is a joke! I feel sorry for people who end up paying double for Indian bats because they are being ripped off!
Great value, what a joke!

The SF stuff Romida stocked last year was woeful!!! These look like different gravy though. I wonder if they have changed manufacturer or just have the top end models made somewhere else now ... not that any of that matters really. They just look far superior to anything I've seen from SF in the past.

If we sold any of these bats for that price we would make a loss - quite a big one too. Simple. Either Online Stockist is selling fake SF bats, or he simply gets a better deal than we do. We are not ripping anyone off. We are a business with profit margins to consider. Despite that, I still stand by my words as these particular bats represent great value in my opinion.

We always strive to stock "far superior" bats to any other shop. This is across our whole range, not just SF... :)

My friend bought one of these Sapphire bats from Online Stockist and it's a very nice bat, it came with 40+mm edges about 14 grains, although not ruler straight. Not bad for £124 to his door!

I take my hat off to your friend - he has got a very good deal there.

It's a shame you have to pay so much for them, I assume UK based retails get ripped off by the re-sellers of Asian bats, that's why bats like SS/TON have a massive markup in the UK.
The bats Online Stockist are defiantly real! LOL! Like I said, my friend bought one of them, it came with the same carry case you have.
-
We mainly have 2 options.
Go through a distributor who offers more security in terms of after care, warranty etc. It also usually means we can contact someone in the UK, we can pay someone in the UK and go and handpick the bats if we like.
Or we can take a risk and go direct to the manufacturer. This makes after care a nightmare as the company has no representative in the UK. We normally also have to pay into a foreign bank account which costs us money. Added to this the lack of handpicking ability as well as the lingering spectre of customs fees, bats being drilled for drugs etc when the product arrives in the UK.
My understanding is each SF bat came in 3 grades, 5000, 6000 and Players. This may have changed, but perhaps your friend got a different bat from online stockist to the one Paul is selling?
-
Is the face of the bat protected by those bat covers?
-
Is the face of the bat protected by those bat covers?
Not as much as the back, but the front of the bat cover is lightly padded, so yes.
-

Thanks, just wasn't sure from the videos, I guess the spine of a bat is more likely to pick up a ding than the face directly.

Yep, certainly when shipping bats we've noticed that if any damage is ever caused in transit, it's on the spine, not the face, so that protection on the bat cover makes sense.

Just to add, if a company has an agent in UK, they won't sell direct to you, e.g SS/TON.
Like Jake said, it is better to pay extra to get the bat locally as if something goes wrong to the bat we can send it back to the local supplier to either get replacement or get it repaired. Also we can hand pick the bats
-
It's understandable you would want to cover your backs when you're a retailer with aftercare because of course, if a bat breaks you can make a big loss if it's bought direct from the manufacturer in India. A risk not worth taking for you guys.
I assume drilling is mostly related to bats coming from Pakistan and not India as the drugs trade coming from the Afghan/Pakistan border is massive.
The SF my friend bought is the same quality and grade of the bat in the video.
-
drilling would be more of a risk if you had a batch of bats i guess.
i havent heard many stories of single purchase bats being drilled.

Whilst you have highlighted an obvious price gap, you have failed to acknowledge the levels of service given by the forum retailers. I've had first hand experience of buying from Paul and all of his bats are first class.
I could not recommend him enough.
Buying from a TRUSTED retailer is highly desirable and the existence of a number of them here is proof that even the biggest pedants (many here) trust the judgement and guarantees offered by a retailer.
I would buy a bat recommended by Paul every day.
-
Got to agree with FastEddie here, the quality of service that the forum sponsors give is certainly worth the extra money - having a bat hand picked for you ensures it'll be a good bat, having a random stock bat sent from India is totally pot luck, the weight could be no where near what you've asked for and the chances of you getting a replacement would be very minimal
If you're paying more for the same bat there is generally a reason for it to be fair

I don't think anyone will despute that, but there is a streak in most people that finds it hard to turn down a bargain, like those that occasionally appear on SD at less than cost price!

Fair enough.
But here is the question - if you find a retailer you trust based in India, would you still be willing to pay double the price? Just asking....

Massive SF Cricket Bats New in Stock! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Odb_rTTPZY#ws)
I can't see or open the link. Is it just me? Or may be I'm behind a firewall.
I was recommended the SF Optimus, SF LE or SF Triumph by a retailer (not telling who to avoid any controversies), especially the SF Optimus in his opinion is are excellent.

Possibly.
In the first instance a piece of kit would need to be very cheap for me to take that kind of punt.
Trust is everything.

If I were in the market for a SF bat I would definitely take the chance. The difference in price between £105 and
£200 is substantial imo.
And I completely agree with Paul that their pricing is dependent on the price at which they are getting the goods. Needless to say, I do not agree with the person who posted that Paul is ripping off people by charging more than onlinestockist.

Your price does not include shipping and VAT. Paul's includes 20% VAT.
Once you've done the numbers, using UK based retailers stacks-up.
Also, if there is a problem, and as a natural product that can easily occur, you have UK trading law to support you.
-
Guys - we are all aware that online stockists sell for a cheaper price than UK retailers!
But with a decent UK retailer you know you will get a quality bat.
There have been a number of people who have had issues with OS, and a number who are very pleased!
So it seems to me that people are free to make their choice of whether they take a chance or not!
Nice bats Paul! :)

Don't forget import duties too, Matt... ;)
-
Has anyone here who's bought a bat from OS ever had to pay VAT and import duty? I don't know anyone who has?
Despite everything, if I paid £230 for an SF and found out after I could get it for £124 posted to the UK I would be really, really pissed off.
The guy from OS will get you a bat in the weight range of 1-2lbs you ask for and you can even specify grains, plus extra grips. He's always ready for a chat if you email him, he sometimes sends pictures which is handy.
In terms of after sales I agree it's tricky because if you bought a bat from OS and it broke then it's going to be costly and tricky to ship the bat back to India. But come on, the price gap is massive.

I think there is a typo in there... I would hope he could get closer than 1-2lbs...
It would be funny though to order a 2.9lb and get a 5lb monster
-
Hahahaha, well spotted! :D
-
Hahahaha, well spotted! :D
I want a 5lb sf please. Lol.
The issues raised by imperivm have me stuck in the middle of this.
On one hand, I think this dude, knows nothing off overheads, import cost, profit margins etc etc,
But then.
I also think, with os selling at the price he does(which seems below cost) then it makes little sense for people like ijc to try and sell the stuff. The plus sides of buying from paul are worth it, but people are so tight they'll take the risk unfortunately.

It's like buying a car from a dealer or an auction.
John Lewis v Primark.
IJC, Never Knowingly Undersold.
Much TIC here.

I may be Wierd, but I would buy clothes from primark. But I always buy a car from a dealer, as I know I'll get a better warranty, and issues sorted more easily,
It's also why I bought a hammer bat from ijc even though it would have been abit cheaper to buy straight from Jason. As paul is easier to contact, and a seemingly great guy so I know if I have issues, he would help.
The thing is, for the way I use bats(I own about 20,and swap and change regularly) it'd probably make more sense for me to buy from os, and bin it when it breaks and just buy another from os, and still not spent the money of the "safe" purchase.
But I just won't. Lol
-
Well, people may be tight, as Chris quite rightly says, but still two of these three SF bats (Triumph and Limited Edition) have now sold, despite them not being up on our website yet. If anything, I should put the prices up instead! ;)
-
It is really difficult to compare prices of onlinestockist with IJC. OS being based in India always have price advantage while IJC have to add import duty etc etc.
The important point to note here is that quality of IJC bats would be far superior than OS because all Indian companies made two ranges one for India and one for Export and their Export quality is definitely better compared to Indian one. Last week i was in Meerut(India) and visited one of the SF dealer and checked few of their top range bats, none of them impressed me, finishing was not good but in IJC video all bats looking good with excellent finish.
-
If your going direct you need to trust your source for sure I have no issue with Online Stockiest just i found on my trip to Mumbai off all the shops i visited only Diana and SCS did i trust.
Them SF bats look great by the way Paul
Unfortunately unlike many with there fancy cars and watches as i'm classed as lower class i buy what my money can afford primark and all.
-

No need to show off that you can afford to Shop in Primark Dave! Some of us get everything they buy from the charity shop, tesco and occasionally eBay if I'm splashing the cash ;)
-
Of course I know overheads exist, especially if you have a shop and are paying a high rent.
I'm assuming most of the cost difference goes on import duty and VAT, but, just ouch..
I suppose, at the end of the day most want a G1 bat that we can score plenty of runs with and will pay around £200 (more if we have the income), and all things considered some may justify the price difference.

This is a good point, well made. Most, no, make that all, teammates of mine who use CA, Ton or other sub-continent brands, either buy them when they are visiting there, or have someone buy them for them, and they do get very good vfm. However, just on a purely cosmetic point of view, they look nothing like the CA's that I've seen in Paul's shop.
Do manufacturers have a different range for export? You bet they do. I worked in the drinks industry for a long time and it is as true with a bottle of beer as it is with a cricket bat.
-
You must hold the record, Paul. For 'Number Of Brands Of Cricket Bat Ever Stocked By A Tiny Shop In Elephant & Castle', I mean. ;)

Some have come and gone over the years, but yes, Andy: I have actually lost count!
It's always nice to provide a wide selection, but when you're carrying over double the amount of bats you actually have display space for, you know you are getting a bit carried away! :-[ Hopefully come January this will be very different though...
-
I have a feeling this jump in stock levels is because paul is about to move to a larger premises?
Maybe at a test ground?
No inside knowledge I'm just getting a vibe.......
-
Unlikely about a test ground now, but larger premises is on the cards. Much larger, actually...
-
Gutted, being on a test ground would have given huge traffic in and out. But bigger premises doesn't sound good,
Goodluck.

Online Stockist does not sell fakes. Any suggestion otherwise is merely racist hate mongering from forum members who have never a bought a bat or softs from Ajit and are attempting to besmirch his name.
Paul, those SF's you have look class and you are entitled to charge whatever you see fit. That is business and you have every right to make a living. But for heaven's sake, ignore comments like the one you responded to...or of you must respond, just trot out the perfectly plausible: "Importing cricket equipment into the UK is a costly enterprise and a small mark up in order for me to survive as a going concern is unavoidable".
Cheers and best of luck.

For the record, I wasn't besmirching anyone. I don't actually think he stocks fake bats - he seems to have a pretty good reputation which cannot be achieved by selling fake bats - but at that price he is apparently selling them for, it at least got me thinking. Not knowing much about Online Stockist, I cannot comment further, but please don't read too much into it.

I've got my fingers crossed you're moving up to Watford. My bank manager is praying for a move to Timbuktu.

Sorry if it sounded like I was directing that specifically at you Paul, it was actually not intended as such.
To clarify, there has been "Chinese whispers" regarding online stockist selling fake bats for more than three years with a handful of people on this forum mentioning it to me that that was what they heard. In reality, I have bought a ton (pun not intended) of stuff from Ajit over the last 5 years...bats (3), pads (twice), gloves (numerous) and it has all been the genuine article. Others have critiqued his customer service and aside from his grandfather dying three times in one year which caused minor delays (few days) each time, my last order arrived within days of the order being made. I am sure Ajit himself would concede that he can only do so much as an online operator and that he has no hope of matching the customer service of retailers who have a shop front.
At the end of the day, the guy has a small, but loyal, customer base that would barely make a dent in the business of other more established operators.
The poster who was taking a swipe at your RRP clearly does not understand that retailers outside of India would have a different rate with suppliers in India than the local operators and then the cost of shipping and stocking the goods has to be taken into consideration which will naturally impact on prices...even before we take into consideration different costs of living and economies of scale between living in the UK and India.
At the end of the day...consumers need to compare apples with apples and not oranges, because it would be commercial suicide for a retailer to offer the same price as an Indian retailer, much less an Indian online retailer!
Keep your excellent video reviews coming as I really enjoy them.
Have a great day!
Vic

To add to your point Vic, products made in India for the internal market (which is what online stockist sells) are different to products made in India for the external/export market, even if/when they carry the same labels.
Who am i to say which is better, but certaily a bat needs to be made to a certain quality/finish if it has a chance of being sold in the UK, this matters less in India as cost is the main factor for most.

no worries, i am happy that your thoughts are same.

While that may be true. For higher end bats, the quality still has to be there as the competition is high. So you can't just sell inferior bats locally just because they are cheaper. you have to take in to account the cost of living and compare. INR 10,000 (= GBP 100) can still get you a good grade 1 bat in India.
-
I spoke to Arnil from SF regarding online stockist selling products below the wholesale price he was selling them to the UK for. He advised that he did not do business with online stockist and he does not know how he can be selling his products at such a low price. So either they are fake products or he has some one from SF supplying him products without management been aware. Also a lot of the pictures on Online stockist look out of date by a good few years, so maybe he just sells end of line equipment at a discounted rate? I have to admit of the years I have been tempted to purchase from Online stockist but the prices always made me question whether or not I would receive a genuine product, if some thing sounds too good to be true, it normally is. So over the years I have always turned to Asad at Uzi sports he has always picked me out a nice bat. One thing better than a bargain is purchasing a quality product that will last you for years and bring you plenty of enjoyment.

Hi I think your find that all the gear from online stockiest is genuine I had a couple off stunning sf bats off him and I know a few that have had very nice ss ton bats he buys direct if you look under sf your see the quality he get so no issue with him at all
-
So if online stockist gets his stock direct from SF why does the owner Arnil not know about it? I can not comment on whether or not he stocks genuine products as I have never purchased from him. What I do know is that Arnil has said he does not deal direct with Online stockist.
-
The couple of bats I have had from OS in the past have been absolutely genuine!
But how they are purchased, and what agreement they have, only they know!!
-
Anyway, let's get this topic back to looking at the stunning SF bats on page 1! :D
-
I must say, I had absolutely zero interest in SF bats until I saw Paul's video with the Triumph.
I think its great that IJC holds such a diverse range of gear.
-
Probably Late on this topic though......wonder why do you go for a Shelf bat when you have like so many options for custom bats in your country ?????? For me, whatever Bat I play with should be blank either a shelf Bat or a Custom made......Unless someone sponser me ;)
