Title: GN 2015 Launch
Post by: Vitas Cricket on July 08, 2014, 01:50:50 PM
I have spent the morning at Twickenham viewing the 2015 GN ranges, there are some really exciting products on the way.

We can't release any pictures just yet but I will update with some photos when I can.

Many customer ideas/requests/wants have been listened to, including full profiled bats, especially lightweight ones.

There are also some cool new products in the heritage range to complement the flagship Legend.

----------
EDIT

Hi guys,

Ranges are now out and will be going onto our website for pre-orders very soon. I have just launched a forum pre-order offer on GN 2015 for September which you can find here: http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=31730.0 (http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=31730.0)

Legend. Not a great photo of the bat, but there is a lot of nice lazer engraving on the bat. The top cap on the handle is made of leather, nice touch.

Prestige, introduced for those wanting to kit themselves out in the style of the Legend but can't stretch to the top end prices.

The Dynadrive remains the same

The core range of 4 bats keep 2 options from this seasons and introduces 2 new models.

The Powerbow Gen X and Oblivion E41 remain the same for 2015 aside from the Oblivion E41 gloves.

Nemesis

Full profile in a light weight, "proper" Powerbow shape being bought back?? (Maybe wishful thinking)

Full profile in light weights smells off small edges.

I'm not a hater of small edges, far from it, but we know the gm 1885 was bought out as it was "what the people wanted" but was then canned a year later. As it didn't sell in numbers.

What people want on a forum, or in surveys emails, are a different thing from what the actually buying public will purchase.

Personally I'm looking forward to there innovative ranges, (as still would love a nemesis in a 2.14 plus weight) and what heavy weight bats they release this year(2012/13 had some good grade 1/2 blades in 3lb plus, but 2014 there all grade 3/4)

I loved the powerbow, had about 3 of them until the prices went sky high, then got one custom made in a powerbow shape. Could be tempted back to GN if they bring back the powerbow, although not paying through the nose.

Samples aren't always the best guide, but the bats i saw did not have small edges.

The Legend no longer has stickers if that helps ;)

GN want to launch their own images as they have spent a lot of time creating things for various media channels, so i must hold fire with photos etc for now. Anyone who pops into the store might get a sneaky look into the catalogue though....

Gray Nics have launched this early for as long as we have been open (2011)

The others follow suit over the next 3 months or so but GN are always first. Based on what has happened in the last couple of years, I would expect Cook to use the new bat model in at least one of the India games.

It's a lovely range chaps, can't wait to share it properly.

The GN legend 2015 could be similar to the gold edition if  anyone wants to take a look it's available from Player Sports New Zealand.

GN Aus and GN UK are two separate ranges, there is occasional crossover like the Kaboom, X181 and Powerbow Gen X etc.

The UK and Aus Legends (including Gold Edition variant) are very different :)

I thought the gold gloves go to the player with the highest runs from the previous month? Luke Wright appears to have had them recently.

Correct, Cook got the gold gloves after scoring a couple of hundreds in May for Essex.

Not a problem mate, not your fault at all. The catalogue looks quite poorly pixelated from my quick look at it, so it is difficult to judge some of the range, and I of course cannot confirm or deny if this is the actual range. But i will endeavour to get proper images onto the forum as early as possible :)

I reckon that the Powerspot being discontinued is probably because (in my opinion) it isn't as Iconic as the Scooped bats were. And many of us have very bad memories of Powerspots with very small middles that it was hard to hit the ball off the square with.

Add to that that it is a traditionally shaped bat (and we know how successful the GM 1885 was) and I think it didn't ring the nostalgia bell as well as it might have. Certainly not in the same way as the Scoop and the Dynadrive.

I think the prestige has stickers on and the legend has laser engraving. Also, the prestige has 'First Class Players' graded willow, so I am guessing it is a lower trade as well. Looking at the profile, I can't see much of a difference.

A very muddled piece of branding.

I am not sure I agree on the branding point - Napier has his own Marlin brand for Warsop

Peter Trego is known for all his tattoos - he obviously has a bat shape he likes and given his cult popularity and the fashion status of tattoos at the moment, it seems worth a go.
You or I may not like it, but that doesn't make it muddled. So yes ridiculous, but also clever at the same time...

This answered my unasked question, what has Trego done to deserve his own range?
Not convinced by the branding but we'll have to wait and see how well it sells.

It is quite clever in that respect, in that it isn't directly (by name on the bat) related to Trego, but for those in the know....

Disappointed there's no Powerspot, as I do have fond memories of that bat (we've obviously had very different experiences Tim!)

That aside, I like the range. Omega looks good, new Nemesis colour way looks good IMHO and personally I like the Lucky7.

Anyways, if Trego is enough of a superstar to have his own bat range, is he anywhere near England honours?

To me it proves how much Gray-Nicolls are struggling with their player sponsorships when they need to get Trego to endorse a bat.  On one side you have Dhoni, Clarke and Gayle and on another (and a supposedly bigger name cricket brand) you have Trego, Bairstow and Robson...

From the pro direct pictures I like the Lucky 7
will have to sell a get more bits (and see if i'm even playing next year) then take a look at one for next year!

I was wondering the same thing about Trego. If he has his own range, how close is he to the national setup? If they get no international exposure, like with the Kaboom with Warner, he must be hugely popular in the UK and his cult following must be going to snap these up.

I personally like the idea of the tattoo graphics and would buy one because of the tattoo graphic idea and not necessarily because of Peter Trego. Nothing against the player, but not being in the UK I just don't know him well enough.

Granted, they still have Cook, but up until a fortnight ago, he wasn't exactly hot property...

More a case of making a Peter Trego bat that surprises me, and tattoos are a very personal thing, so not sure why someone would want to own a bat that looks like that, unless they have the same tattoos themselves??!

Yeah I can see where you're coming from. Perhaps they are trying to change/broaden their image? I haven't seen many outlandish stickers on GN bats until the last couple of years.

personally i love the look of the lucky 7, shape and stickers. Not sure how trego has got himself a range but i love the look of it and think it may sell well with the younger generation

How many bats do GN sell from sponsorships though? Before i joined this place i would always buy GN and know alot of people who do. I think they like the prestige of having an England captain on board but i reckon they'd do pretty well without Cook (and Strauss before him).

Agree the Trego thing is a bit odd but i reckon its just a bit of fun. They usually have one wacky or different bat per year and whilst this isn't as radical as the Nemesis or T20 bats theyve had before i think this is this years offering on that front

Hmmm. Interesting thoughts. I never bought GN bats because of sponsorship, but because I liked the idea of bats with bits cut out of them. For this reason the twin scoop/Dynadrive and derivatives have always been my favourites. No-one else really makes bats like that...(due to GN Patents). (Then again, I also liked the unusual shapes from HC and GM).

Maybe I'm just weird though.

Sponsorships with int players I'd assume do pay for themselves as the kids and 'average' player will see what player x is using and copy. However, the silly sponsorship of joe avg county players and amateurs is just pointless (unless hey basically agent for a brand and sell enough over time )

The problem is that if you sponsor one player then every person of note applies.

One benifit is sponsoring up and coming players who may make the bigtime.

Then they move to others who offer more money. Might as well just not give them cheap/free kit and wait and nick the ones that do make it

I imagine there are still a fair few who stick with their original sponsors, especially if they are one of the bigger companies.

Hi guys,

Following on from seeing the range in July, the images are now out and will be going onto our website for pre-orders very soon. I have just launched a forum pre-order offer on GN 2015 for September which you can find here: http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=31730.new#new (http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=31730.new#new)

Here are some rips from the PDF in pretty average quality, will update with better imagery ASAP.

Legend. Not a great photo of the bat, but there is a lot of nice lazer engraving on the bat. The top cap on the handle is made of leather, nice touch.

Prestige, introduced for those wanting to kit themselves out in the style of the Legend but can't stretch to the top end prices.

The Dynadrive remains the same.

The core range of 4 bats keep 2 options from this seasons and introduces 2 new models.

The Powerbow Gen X and Oblivion E41 remain the same for 2015 aside from the Oblivion E41 gloves.

Lucky 7

Nemesis

Got a very lightweight, high end shoe called the Omega Pro, and a more affordable option called the Sigma. All current shoe options remain

I will update ASAP with better pictures.

Neil and I saw the new range on Monday.

The Prestige range blows everything out of the water for me (incredible quality for the price across the range!) although I also liked the F18...

Stickers on the Omega are horrible though, really don't like them.  They definitely look worse in the flesh for me!

Prestige range will be a huge success I suspect.

The core selection of bats is a little weaker than it could be in my opinion, but I imagine the strong sales of the Powerbow Gen X and Oblivion E41 will carry through into 2015.

Since the Prestige is being touted as a more affordable Legend, will the Prestige bats be made in the UK?

Given there is no guarantee that a legend is, I would expect similar for the prestige...

They were made in England and India last year and you could get either. You'd need to speak to a retailer and see if they knew the difference.

That's a bit cheeky considering the RRP of a Legend......I'll have to try and dig out that thread......

Hi guys,

so just wondering if anyone knows which range of GN bats are made in UK?
Is it the LE or Test Range?
What about the 2013 LE range which was the top grade at that time.

thanks,

just seems a bit weird as i inquired about the lucky 7 range.
They are made in the UK at the moment but the rest of the stock will come from India?
Surely there would be differences between the two batches?

I said i believe them to be UK made based on the very subtle differences and indicators on the bat. Also the fact that they became available immediately after launching, whereas the stock from India is not due for a few weeks.

GN quality control at their own factory is very high. I believe I can tell the difference between a Robertsbridge made GN and an Indian made GN, but i would say 90+% of customers wouldn't be able to.

Just a thought on the whole "xrd" thing, Jake i'll bring a load of it to the forum event at Vitas on the 6th to do a little "experiment" ! we've had conversations about different foams before and their suitable purposes so this could be interesting to show everyone how it works and why therefore it's not really any use for pads and gloves ! might need a few volunteers ! PS this isn't the surprise I was talking about, that will be coming as well !
