Guess it goes in here, what with India being the home team.
First T20 in a bit, this should be super fun

You watching on sky?
My picture is ridicolous dark compared to other channels?? Anyone's else's the same?

I've got a feed from Willow on Kodi and was wondering the same, super dim

Seems a little better now

Seems a little better now
Same, it has improved.
No rahane! Dudes a great t20 player in the I'll. shame he's been dropped.
-
De villiers actually keeping for once :o , poor run out
-
De villiers actually keeping for once :o , poor run out
De cock dropped for an extra seamer.
De villiers to stump as helps team be more balanced.

Thought they would bring de Kock back in on the back of his three 'A' hundreds.
-

Ah. Just taken a look at the teams.
-
Rohit is noooooo caring about whats thrown at him
-
50 up for rohit, followed by a lovely scoop
-
SHOT
-
and again
-
This is 'the' over then...
-
100 up for rohit!!
Very batsmen friendly conditions, I imagine prociricket82 will be shaking his head at the nonsense!
-
Quite the knock from Rohit
-
Absolute carnage now. Seen plenty of scores of 200+ chashed here in the Ipl though
-
You'd think De Villiers in these conditions will know what to do...
-
The SA choke is on ;)
-
Hmm Faf gone
-
Was looking easy with abd at the crease
Duminy rocking shreys stem guard.
-
Saving Miller till its 15 an over??
-
Going to have to motor soon.
-
Not playing lbw's for duminy today? Stone dead
-
duminy makes it to 51 for 3(pretty sure that's the amount he's been plumb)
4 and 6 from ball 12 and 11 to go, has won this for the SA
-
Just tuned in to the 2nd T20. Err, what on Earth happened?
-
Not over yet.......
-
Never easy with low scores in t-20

Absolute farce for Indian cricket, a disgrace.
-
Absolute farce for Indian cricket, a disgrace.
Was out so just turned on and said South Africa won on duckworth and Lewis.
Read on the net that it was abandoned due to bottle throwing. Errrr surely South Africa should have won by default if Indians fans aren't behaving??
Has that ground blown international cricket now? Or next few games in the series behind closed doors?
India doing this, Pakistan still playing in uae and now Bangladesh not deemed as safe to travel too. Not a great time for the fans of Asian cricket.
-
Imagine the ICC will reprimand the Indians quite heav..... Oh wait a minute
-
Whilst Indian's love the game and enjoy. But I have noticed that such farce are not anything new in India, this has been happening decades ago but was shocked to see it now. If this happened else where in Asian, what would the reaction of players and ICC officials be? Surely, they wouldn't be silent!
-
De villiers blitzed a ton at 4 in 73balls.
But
Rohit sharma(flat track bully) is 150* as India need 35 from the last 25 balls. 7wickets left
-
And rohit goes as I typed. Lol
-
Can't help but say India bottled that.
-
great to see the youngster do well in the last over.
Dhoni has lost his touch as a finisher. Some knock from AB and Rohit
-
Is Dhoni's international career coming to an end?
India have a captain in waiting for when he does go, and he seems to be a spent force now rather than feared finisher.
-
1. Woefully out of form 2. unwanted comments reprimanding / shortcomings of players in the media 3. losing series after series 4. Bowlers now really know what line to bowl to him quickly taking off the great finisher tag
Now, now Dhoni has a real job at hand holding onto his position as captain/player in the team now.
-
Think he'll need to be pushed out, don't see it happening with him being friends with a certain csk owner with a lot of power.
-

It will be over soon I think. He is 34 and wont be playing next world cup. I guess they want VK to settle in as test captain and then take over ODI captaincy as well in 1-2 years. So MSD got couple of years max...
Still a legend ....
-
This chap Rabada looks a bit special
-
India in trouble with top 5 gone.
Suresh Raina changing brands ??? not sure going to which one ....he wore SG gloves
-
Looks like dhoni's got his team up to a good score. Under pressure knock
-
cant help but feel south africa could have chased that comfortably but from what i saw (lat 10 overs) bhuvaneshwar kumar bowled well looks like india have found a decent quick there, been impressed since he broke onto the scene
-
Currently it's ABD vs India
-
Ab's turning it on, making a difficult pitch look easy! Shame no one else wanted to stick around.
Even AB can't pull this one off.
-
Will take some doing if he can get them over the line from here
-
He's about to pump it up
-
That's the game right there. A faint edge to end an excellent innings.
-
Game over. Brilliant innings in the conditions!
Sets the series up going into the final game
-
De kock with a cracking century there! And was still 22 overs left when he departed.
If de villiers stays in South Africa on for a mammoth total here.
-
the ABD show begins! Time for some carnage
-
Du plessis with a ton to add to dk's. He looks like he has some bad cramp though.
De villiers needs another 23 for his.
8 overs left 320 up!
-
It's pure comedy watching dp hit sixes and then squirm around the floor, but with rain coming these cramp delays costing South Africa.
He needs to retire and send Miller in to get on with it .
-
450 on the cards here!
-
Faf retires hurt. Excellent innings. 133* of 115.
Carried up the stairs!
-
450 on the cards here!
Ridiculous scores tbh. Pointless game.
-
Well batted ab 100 up in 57 balls.
3 tons for the South Africans.
-
AB showing why he's head and shoulders better than the rest! some player
-
That six he hit at long on, oh my word
-
Ab definitely using ton... I did see those marking scuffed out.
-
438!!! A mammoth total to chase down?
Do India have the batsmen to chase?
Is this pitch really that dead it's possible?
Or will steyn rabada and morkel be too much for them??(Indians bowling was poor)
-
why was kumar bowling so short. 10-0-106-1
-

Pointless game. AB is one of the best batsmen I've seen though as he can also bat properly.
-
Pointless game.
You said that already.
-
You said that already.
It is though. Aus vs NZ in the World Cup was the best one day game I've seen because it was a contest. I just don't get why these types of game appear to be 'great' when the result is predictable.

If the results are so predictable, go make a killing at the bookies.
-
Thanks SA for ruining my Sunday

No because Morkel isn't playing, your point still stands though.
-
Good point, I didn't actually look at the sides(I'm skipping between games!
That de kock catch was Wordly!!
-
AB de Villiers is a freak of nature. Perhaps the most talented batsman I've ever seen
-

South Africa won a bilateral series away in India! That is an achievement. It can't be a pointless match just because it was one sided in the end. The epic 438 match between SA and AUS many would have also said the result was going to be predictable at the innings break.

One great game doesn't mean it's good. Anyway, I suspect we like different games of cricket and it's obvious the modern trend is wanting high scoring games. Is it good for the game? I suspect some say yes, some say no.
The hitting was clean and good but 99% of the time there is only one winner and watching India try and compete in their innings was a bit meh, you just knew they wouldn't do it. I took smileys advice and out £20 on it and only got £2 profit as the bookies thought the same :(
-
It was an interesting pitch
Series level at 2-2 last game of the series.
Both have decent batting line ups(SA probably just win out du to de villiers)
But sa's bowling is in a different leagues to Indians.
So what was the thinking behind a very very flat pitch, was hey hoping to win the toss, bat first put a similar score on and hope SA choked the chase??
As to me on a flat track, the quality of the SA side would score big regardless off when they batted.
Interested note, apart from the mammoth 437, the top score in this series was 316. Which isn't that large going on recent games.
-
I am true cricket fan from India and I hate what BBCI has done in last 3-4 years.
I hope India losses every single tournament for some time to come and I really wish IPL will go to dogs miraculously!!
-
Test match started today.
Build up seemed to concentrate on South Africa spin department as they'd miss fuming part time control.
Who cares, dean Elgar ripping through the Indians with his part time left arm.
Just took his 4th. India 160 odd for 7!!!
-
It'll be interesting to see how SA bat on this with India's spinners in full swing. Reading on Cricinfo that "The pitch was so dry that Sunil Gavaskar said "he had never seen so many cracks in Chandigarh ever.""
Also noticed Rabada making his debut. Anyone know if Morkel was dropped or injured?
-
Morkel injured. Hurt his quad in the thrid odi and failed a fitness test this morning.
-
250 looks a decent score on this pitch. Already turning square and only going to get worse
-
Dean Elgar, Surrey legend
-
South Africa gifting a couple of wickets here by not playing a shot
-
ABD giving a masterclass on how to play spin!
-
Wow. 21 wickets and they're only in the 5th session overall. That pitch must be a snake pit!

Apart from AB who got a good ball, the rest played shocking shots. Out of the Ali batting manual.
Nothing wrong with a pitch turning on day 1, we see wickets tumbling on green tops all the time so why is it an issue of the ball is turning.
-
Pitch is fine, bowling is average.. Shots are one day shots. Another example of poor test cricket being ruined by one day players/mentality.
-

Very well said ... Except for AB none of the SA batsman were able to push the fielders back.
-
Only watched a bit so far but only the odd one has turned big. Looks like India have started to take it seriously and bat properly.

An England-Esque collapse from India there. 160-2 to 200 all out
-
Anyone know why Philander opened the batting for SA?
-
This match is going at quite a pace. ABD out bowled...curtains for South Africa
Assume philander was sent in as a pinch hitter
-
SA with an England esque collapse this time. Don't think india's seamers will get a look in here
-
Assume philander was sent in as a pinch hitter
If that was the case, then it's another sad indictment on batting attitudes in a test match. You've nearly 3 days to knock off 210 and you say "Go on son, slog us 50-odd", A test top 6 should be able get 210 in 3 days in leg byes
-
Jadeja destroys the South Africans with a five 4. They win by 106 runs inside 3 days.
All 40 wickets fell not a declaration in sight.
-
SA lose by 100+ runs. In the context of the match, massive margin!
SA to continue to complain about the spinning tracks - rather see a result in 3 days than a run fest
-
sky seem to have totally cut their post match analysis of games. No highlights after or no one in the studio - same for the Ram slam t20.
-

Probably the same reason why despite having rights to all county, t20 and 50over comps in England and 6 sports channels to show them on, they ignore them whenever England's on.
Not enough crew/commentators and studios to do it.
There probably all in Dubai watching England.
-
Just finished watching it, simply pathetic test cricket.
-
Why pathetic may I ask? I thought it was a proper match and enjoyable too.
-

Can you explain to us all what would make a good game?
-
Can you explain to us all what would make a good game?
5 days, 15 sessions
Team batting first 250-400 runs for 7+ wickets in 4 -5 sessions. ball swinging a lot and seaming for most of the innings if not all. Spin not really playing a part first innings, just holding role.
Second team about the same give or take 50
Second time round, 5-6 sessions left.. Time to make a game of it on a wicket that's now offering spin and variable bounce so scoring 200-250 for 8+ wickets in 3 sessions to set up the chase on a worsening wicket again... 2-3 sessions to chase 200-250 runs probably chasing 8+ down or failing all out.
Odd game here and there per year one side collapses a d sets themselves up a brig block mammoth to really keep it interesting going into the last hour like Cardiff 2009, edgebaston 2005, fafs mammoth Defience etc.
The wickets need to be good enough to not give Bowlers am easy ride (say like the ashes this year) but not good enough for players to play on the up or just through the line of the ball (ie one day cricket). Make it a test of skill, stamina, patience, technique.
That would produce close games and would keep each and every game interesting. Nothing worse than 500 plays 500 or one side just hitting 500 plus and the other collapsing and looking incapable of saving a game, leave those games to the biff biff stuff if people like one sided games and lots of runs.
-
i can see why those might be "some" parameters for what may constitute a "proper" test match.
but it doesn't leave any room for india vs australia in eden gardens in 2001...headingley '81, india vs south africa at J'burg 2013, australia vs wi in 98, wi vs australia in '93 (Adelaide i think)...thats just a few off the top of my head.
i would humbly and politely suggest there is more than 1 set of guidelines for "proper" test cricket, tho i am able to see the merits of what you say.
i thought it was quite a good contest in Mohali. Yes the wicket was a dust bowl and favoured india. but thats the point. i thought it was good of india to at least provide a result wicket rather than a run fest. ALL the batsmen struggled. its a "better" test wicket than abu dhabi or dubai, and even they produced reasonable tests last month. not the greatest, but there was still competition, and thats what i watch test cricket for - not just the individual performances, but the competition, the struggle, 22 players, 15 sessions, 90 x 6 x 5 deliveries, roughly 400ms per delivery and maybe few seconds per delivery while the ball is in play...but i could still sit there all day and watch it...
the debates about what sorts of surfaces should be prepared will always run and run, and let it. there should be no one standard, as this would in my opinion dilute the virtues of test cricket - the variability and adapting to conditions is part of the test.
thanks
raj
-
There was uneven bounce Which caused all the batsmen problem and it was a dust bowl after 2 days
Did that make it a bad test match? I don't think so,it was pretty exciting cricket and in India you have to expect they play to their strengths,we just did in the ashes over here and how the games have gone in the uae. England, had we won in Abu Dhabi would of had one on the best overseas victories even after conceding 500 in first innings.
It's makes an overseas win so much more valuable
It will be interesting to see what the other wickets are like in this series.india have a huge boost by beating the world ranked number 1 team.
-
It's hasn't rained but it's poured down on South Africa ahead of the second Test in Bangalore. Vernon Philander has trod on a ball and is out of the series(he could miss the first two Tests against the Poms as well) and now Dale Steyn has also been erased with a groin problem. There's been heavy rain in Bangalore in the build up to this Test. Of South Africa's big 3 only Morkel is left standing, rather funny that he missed the first Test with injury, coupled with young buck Rabada. Kyle Abbott has been flown in and could go straight into the starting XI. JP Duminy will also return at 6 meaning one of Harmer/Tahir will drop out.
India unsurprisingly are unchanged.
This is the 100th Test match for the legendary AB de Villiers.
-
6 down South Africa on a much flatter pitch. AB is in some form though! Shame no ones hung around
-
South Africa have called up Titans speedster Marchant de Lange as cover for the crocked Dale Steyn. de Lange hasn't played Test cricket in nearly 4 years but is pretty darn rapid.
-

Next test match is at Nagpur. From cricinfo stats, it seems like a batsman friendly wicket. Given that the indian team management has (implied) preferred spinning wickets, I doubt if the pitch will assist pace bowlers. SA need Tahir to step up and nick more wickets. He is too leaky with runs and probably the weakest fielder in the team.
-
Already looks like a day 4 wicket with the ball turning square. Tahir's been relegated to back up spinner, only bowled 4 overs so far.
Fair to say this game won't make it to day 5
-
@csnew => how abt crossing 3-days :D ??
-
Imran Tahir as night watchman?
That was never going to go well.
-
79 all out? Duminy getting 35 of them? Sorry no pitch is that bad. Serious lack of application from the SA batsmen
-
SA rolled over for 79..AB fails and they can't make it past 3 figures
Amla looks woefully out of form too
Definitely be over in 3 days now
-
The pitch looks like a dried out river bed. It is extremely bad. 20 wickets in a day, c'mon no wonder test cricket is suffering.
-
Some pretty poor bowling from south Africa's spinners.
Duminy bowing ahead of Tahir on a wicket that is turning square.
-
79 all out? Duminy getting 35 of them? Sorry no pitch is that bad. Serious lack of application from the SA batsmen
Really? I personally don't think a test match pitch should be turning 2ft on the 1st day. I am all for using the (home) conditions to your own favour but a spinning wicket on day one? If this was a county pitch the assessors would not score it highly at all. Every credit to Kohli though in getting the groundsman to prepare a pitch that favours the home side.
-
I'm not saying the pitch isn't bad, it is. It's not fit for 5 days of cricket. But 79 all out shows a lack of application more than anything. India are currently 80 odd for 2, the collapse will come though because many batsman don't know how to bat time. If the pitch is that bad and the ball is turning and bouncing so much, just leave the ball more. Batsman need to remember again how long 5 days is you can let the bowler bowl the odd maiden if it means you don't get out
-
Interesting. The number one test team can't bat...........ok then. Did you see the mode of dismissals? see how many were bowled or LBW. You cant leave ANY balls on a pitch that turns at right angles.
-
It's not just South Africa, India are doing it right now. I'm watching it. They lead by 230 there's 3 days left and they lose 2 wickets in 5 minutes from a reverse sweep and a slog. It's moronic
-
Interesting. The number one test team can't bat...........ok then. Did you see the mode of dismissals? see how many were bowled or LBW. You cant leave ANY balls on a pitch that turns at right angles.
Number one test team in the modern game doesn't really mean much I'm afraid, just means best of a poor bunch. I also watched it and yes when it's turning square it's hard but these are pros and should be able to bat time. Poor poor quality batting yet again, one day batting. block block block oh no much score so slog
-
these are pros batting and pros bowling. You've got some of the worlds best spinners on a pitch I would'nt let my children play on. How often have you seen a team open with 3 spinners?
-
Harmer looks no better than Moeen to me but on day 1 he was spinning the ball like Warne. Morkel looked a class apart before being injured.
-
Just watched the wickets of SA again. Of the top 7 only Vilas got a good ball. Amla AB and Faf, getting out in ways that a club cricketer would question. Both sides batting like its a road in a 20/20 game
-
SA spinners are cutting thru the Indians batting now, so the 1st test and second are basically the same-spinning tracks. I can only go by the scoreboard not seen any highlights thou.
Much as we all, or most, enjoy the one day game Tests I hope will always be the ultimate in cricket......
there's still enjoyment watching high class batsmen get stuck in on difficult tracks.....but a lot of batsmen want instant runs these days
not saying that's the case here just going by the scorecards. back-in-the-day runs were still scored on raging turners....
-
Nothing more than poor batting from SA. I am sure they were presented with similar wicket to practice on with fair amount of time.
& even if some feel India planned sucha wicket for them - SA too is well known for presenting unnatural green tops to visitors. Indian domestic cricket too is being played on similar wickets.
Mega poor strategies from SA too not helping their cause.

Lol.. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, even those with a "raging bias " ;)
Does anyone think India would have made 200 if they had been facing Shane Warne, Swanny, mushy or even Monty??
Even if the pitch is a green top a top class batsman will make runs... On a pitch turning sideways with indifferent bounce?? Well let's look at the scores of Kohli, AVB and Amla...
I still say every credit to Kohli as he has used everything to his advantage to win this test series however with the lack of a class spinner in the SA team it's a no contest series.
-
Even the Indian commentators tearing into the batsmen here.
"It's in the air, it's gonna be taken, and I'll add its once again not to a defensive shot!"
-
Also imran Tahir 5 for being used as thrid choice spinner.
Should have opened!!
Morley bowled well too.
-
The likes of kallis and Dravid certainly wouldn't be playing most of the shot's we've seen this series. No one's bothered hanging in there.
SA need 310 to win, probably more how many wickets will fall before the end of play.
Much rather see a result pitch than that run fest we saw last week in Perth.
-
South Africa can be pretty pleased with their bowling efforts thus far in this series. Injuries to Steyn, Morkel and Philander. Inexperienced spinner in Harmer and Young buck Rabada. Tahir is a bit of a wild card. But they've have India under pressure pretty much in every innings.
If their batsmen had shown up in either the first or third Tests they could be winning this series.
Backing Ashwin to have another field day now though. South Africa aren't getting anyway near 310.

look at it a different way, yes admittedly this only applies if you support England, SA look to be on the end of a series loss and although the games in SA spin will be redundant, we could be playing them on the back of a series loss.
Are India helping England? just a different way of looking at it.... :)
-

Don't forget SA got knocked over in the second test on a flat wicket by pace ;)
-
South Africa need to work out the correct balance between attack and defend. They've either been gung-ho or hapless in trying to stonewall.

Warne, swanny, mushy & monty - well I am sure India would have made a lot more than 200 with Sachin, sehwag, dravid & Laxman on the other end - Haha
Green top, class thingy - well, it still stands for a turning track. Can't expect similar tracks everywhere.
Regards to injuries to the SA players - don't wana blame kohli for that am sure.

Don't think the pitches would have been this spin-friendly had a team with better spinners (like Pak maybe) been visiting.
If teams are evenly matched, "unsporting" wickets produce thrillers like this:
http://m.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/63456.html (http://m.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/63456.html)
-
That was Sunil gavaskar's last test match if am not wrong.
Don't see the harm in thrillers cuz it means they can go either way. Plus, if you're a top team - you gotta make sure you travel well. India couldn't & it reflects in their ranking.
& not they twas a surprise for South Africa anyway. Any team coming to the subcontinent know what to expect, just that it started a lil early this time.

Sachin, Laxman etc. Don't know how old you are but I don't remember seeing one pitch in.India offer this much spin and low bounce when Warne was bowling against the cream of Indian batting. Also remind me how India got on against England on less turning pitches a few years ago when Monty got most of the so called superstars out on slightly turning wickets.
I have no problem with teams using the conditions to their advantage but turning 2ft on the 1st day (in both tests) isn't really what test match cricket is about.
Oh yes! remind me how well the Indian's have played in English conditions recently.. Or in SA either...
Like I said, hats off to Kohli for using the advantage but FOR ME, it's just not cricket..
-
It absolutely is cricket. South Africa just can't handle it. "Cricket" doesn't mean teams have to play fair. As I said earlier, you wouldn't see these pitches had pakistan been touring instead of SA.
-
Well that's the thing - it ain't cricket for you but the ICC doesn't seem to have any obstruction to it cuz its prevalent everywhere.
Indians not doing too well abroad - I mentioned it & it reflects clearly.
India not doing too well on less turning pitches you say - well, they simply didn't adapt well enough. Period. No point accusing the commanded curators here - both teams play on the same track & are prepared well in advance for it all.

Sorry gurav but the pitch is crap period. The icc should crack down on these one sided pitches and that includes the latest pitch produced at the waca. Cricket is a game about bat vs ball not bat or ball

It absolutely is cricket. South Africa just can't handle it. "Cricket" doesn't mean teams have to play fair. As I said earlier, you wouldn't see these pitches had pakistan been touring instead of SA.
interesting stuff brokenbat.....if Pakistan would of been touring instead of SA what pitches do you think would of been prepared? are you saying India would magic up quick tracks because the PAK side can all play spin?
or a green English seamer like Trent Bridge? :)
-
Never uttered the pitch was best ever. I just made a point that both teams play on the same strip which they very much are acquainted with well in advance. Needn't all be spectator point of view - 'TEST'

The pitch is a joke
As someone mentioned, never saw anything liek this when King Sachin was up against Warne or Murali.
The ICC need to clamp down on this type of behaviour and quick. Spoiling the game as a spectacle, is it any wonder people doubt whether Test cricket is the pinnacle anymore when you see pitches and games unfolding like this. I play on some gash decks in my local league, but I'd be gutted to rock up and play on that
-
I think we have seen the two extremes in the current series ie Aus vs NZ and Ind vs SA. These type of pitches will naturally cause debate and the one important question for me is does it add value to the Test cricket brand at a time where Test cricket is competing with T20 and ODI cricket for attention. What makes a good Test pitch?
As a South African supporter it hurts that we are struggling like this to score runs. 300 + chase seems a long way away. One thing is guaranteed is that there will be a result.
-

we'll cross that bridge when we get there...which will be never, because the BCCI is being a (insert word that rhymes with hunt) about playing Pak

This pitch is embarrising!!
There is home advantage, this is way beyond that.
Home advantage would be a pitch would be a raging turner on day 5 maybe day 4. Not from day 1.
Watched the highlights and you're getting puffs of dust from seamers in the first session!!!
I'll give India benefit of the doubt and believe they asked for a turning pitch but the groundsman got it wrong.
Same as the last 2 Trent Bridge tests. Clearly a 5 day pitch was wanted against India and what a bore that test was.
Wanted a bowling friendly wicket and got the greentop this Ashes. Although no Aussies batted to the conditions on that day.
This is why I'm a big fan of what they're doing in LVCC div 2 next season, give the away team the toss. Then you'll get friendlier pitches to some extent. I hope it's deemed a success and ran out across all of UK cricket for 2017. Then maybe it'll catch ICCs attention, probably not.
No wicket should be turning in such a manner that a spinner bowls 4th over of the games 2nd innings and turns in 2 feet.
As for @brokenbat crikect, I see the spirit of cricket is lost on you! :
"Cricket" doesn't mean teams have to play fair"
-
India (and their fans, judging by tinternet) have become so convinced that their horrific performances overseas are due to 'doctored green-tops' that it looks like this kind of rubbish is all we'll be seeing there for the foreseeable future. When South African spinners are routinely bowling Indian teams out at home for 200ish, you know the pitches are crap. No batsman from either side has passed 40 in this match! For all the talk of India being cheated abroad by 'green-tops', England/Aus/SA were piling runs on those pitches - can't be that bad can they. Dravid scored bucket-loads of runs last time he played in England, just because the rest of the team weren't up to it doesn't mean the pitch was unplayable. Paranoia and unwillingness to adapt to foreign conditions have led to this, and India will likely carry on getting destroyed abroad.
Unfortunately the ICC clearly won't be stepping in after this series to warn India about the pitches!
-
A good read @edge
I think the reason India struggle abroad now is with the IPL you don't get any Indian players playing First Class cricket abroad, so now getting a chance to know those conditions.
India wants to do well over here? Get Kohli to follow this mans steps, he turned out to be a not-bad cricketer.

Thanks mate. Agreed, pints of bitter do wonders for your sporting ability!

Pitches should be prepared to favor the home team. Visitors should beat the home team by overcoming their home advantage. This is what makes a series exciting and interesting. However the Nagpur pitch is a travesty. Indian cricket team requested a pitch to favor the home team and its understandable that curators made a spin friendly pitch. I guess someone forgot to tell them that the test match must be played for 5 days ... :o
Imran Tahir as a third option is understandable, however SA's insistence in bowling Harmer for longer spells is quite confusing as well. Harmer starts bowling short balls when he is tired and this was the major reason why Jadeja was able to score 38 in the first innings. Amla needs to get his mojo back. Dude is seriously down in motivation since his batting is also lending him a helping hand. This series is a forgettable one for Amla.
ICC big three (BCCI, ECB & CA) have planned this carefully :D. India will mentally break down the SA team and England will run through the SA line up in ENG vs SA test series ! Good luck England. Despite home advantage, its clear that many of SA batsman aren't in good form. Exploit them and win the series ....

Pujara skipped IPL 2015 and played in english county cricket last to improve his test match skills. Rest of them are going to keep playing IPL and safe guard their financial future. Either ways i don't see India seeing the test match arena as a big proposition. In next 5 to 10 years they are probably going to focus more on ODI & T20 only ...
-
Pitch is shocking for a test match but tbh I have to question the credentials of These ''test' match batsmen... They aren't interested in batting properly, just all playing one day style/mentality which is possible on flat tracks like the Aussies vs NZ ones (which are worse ImO than this one, at least this tests them out).
Simply put the quality in the modern game is all hype and bluster.
-
this article sums it up brilliantly. certainly convinced me that this pitch IS different from the typical "home advantage" pitches

Must be very tempting for Ian Gould to turn down a dead lbw after all this ridiculous appealing.

I think its probably 95 KM per hour.

After 9 years of incredible success on their travels, the Road Warriors South Africa, have finally lost a series away from home.
South Africa batted a little better in the second innings but that first innings meltdown ended this Test as any sort of contest.
R Ashwin finished with 5/32 and 7/66.
It's hard to see any side in the coming years achieving what South Africa have in the last 9 years with the home bias very evident.

Amla and Du Plessis played really well in the first session. However after lunch they went into a complete shell and defense was their preferred shot to all spinners. Well done India ... Fantastic of SA to hold on to this for so many years ... Only WI have managed to better SA in this regard but that belonged to a different era of cricket.

You know, if you take out a couple of bits I'm sure there was almost a hint of "well done South Africa, for 9 excellent years of cricket" in that last post.

Admiration my friend. Those past 9 years they achieved incredible results. 2 series wins in Australia and 2 in England. Not to be sniffed at.

SA struggling again 65/5. Can't complain about the pitch again... poor batting yet again.
All down to AB again.

Completely lost the plot ... 121 all out ! Problem is not the pitch and certainly not the players or their technique. It's a mental block now. SA batsman have concluded that they can't play spin. Playing ridiculous shots and inventing ways to get out. Du Plessis in particular ... a scoop shot of the first ball when 3 wickets were down ? He was only interesting in dominating the spinners right away.
For India's part i am not sure why Rohit Sharma is in the squad. KL Rahul is a good batsman as well as a make shift wicket keeper. May be they should give more chances to him and get rid of Saha & Rohit from test squad.

How can you say it's not the players techniques or the players?? It most certainly is the players inability to not just attack recklessly like odi's and unable to rely on technique to see them through and just milk runs.
Poor poor cricket from SA, they are a pale poor shadow of the team with steyn in his pomp, Kallis, smith, ab and amla
-
Dare to say it but watching the match SA's bowling looks pretty toothless.
Don't rate their two spinners at all.
-
Is @ProCricketer1982 watching this????
Amla is on 6, from 113 balls. A strike rate of 5.3......

In ODI series - Faf, ABD, Amla, De-Kock played well and scored a lot of runs. That's why i am unable to doubt their technique. Inability is something i would relate to temperament in this case. Being patient and waiting for runs is something they haven't done well in the test series. However i do see how you are relating their inability to failure in technique. Point understood ...
I am going to say SA is wading through uncharted territory now. They haven't lost an away series in 9 years ! When the team was pushed into a corner, captain/vice-cap/team management failed to react properly. Some changes would have helped SA ...
1. Amla should have resorted to opening the innings with Dean in this test series. Amla has the patience to wait for runs and from the 2nd innings of 3rd test match it was quite evident. As long as Amla was there, Faf played a decent innings but once he got out Faf went out playing a wacky shot, ball did keep low but a simple forward defence would have done the trick.
2. ABD has been batting decently but he seems to the lone wolf in the team who is able to carry on immaterial of others performance. He should have been asked go-in at one down. He would have received more support and spent a little more time in the crease. He certainly would have scored more runs than what he did right now.
3. Faf Du Plessis - This is the guy who is seriously stuck in the T20 mode. May be its because he is playing in familiar IPL conditions and his mind switches to the T20 mode or something. Faf doesn't come out as a convincing player who can lead the team with a big innings. He can always play a big innings under the shadow of someone else but can he be a game changer in tests - this begs another discussion !
4. Spin bowlers - Amla is reluctant to toss the ball to Imran Tahir. The so called spinning sensation hasn't really delivered anything at all in this series. Piedt seems to be a good option. Wonder why SA management didn't include Piedt in the first test match itself ! Why did they wait to include him in a match which has minimal relevance.
5. Duminy - Spinning all rounder. Get over it and define a specific role for him in the team. He is not an effective spin option. He is a good middle order batsman who can bowl a few overs here and there. JP should be used to fill up the overs in-between when strike bowlers are resting. Better to realize this and make necessary changes.
Just watched a session of Tambe & Amla batting with discipline. Now this i like it but the run rate is pretty pathetic. Amla has made defence look very easy. Just too little too late ...
Total score : 40/1 in 39 overs.
Tea - Day 4 Current time 14:20 local, 08:50 GMT Test Career
Batsmen R B
Temba Bavuma (rhb) 30 104
Hashim Amla (rhb) 6 113

SA bowling only attacks when Morkel or Abbott is bowling. Tahir is their primary problem. He is part of the playing eleven as a specialist bowler but captain is reluctant to give the ball to him. Tahir comes in when one of their fast bowler is rested and bowls a couple of juicy full tosses which are dispatched to the boundary ropes. The 4 consecutive maiden overs from Morkel/Abbott goes down the drain ... Even the new spinner Piedt is bowling better than him. He was overused the first innings and towards the end of day one he was getting tired. Indian batsman made good use of it and whacked him for major runs. But still a better option since he was able to take 4 wickets compared to Tahir's zero.
-

Amla is making defence look very easy. He should have done this in the previous test matches also. Waiting to come in at no 4 or 5 is what hurt them. SA probably needed Amla to show them the temperament to play test matches ... Lets see how long he holds on to this ...
-

I wouldn't count him out yet, I'll never forget his 8 hour innings to battle out a draw in Adelaide on a spinning deck in 2012, 110* from 376 balls. He has looked very out of sorts though during this series, and it really weakens the batting lineup when he's not firing.
-

Agreed .. May be we can't discard him completely but his degradation from scoring a century in the last ODI match to continuously getting bowled over in test matches is astonishing !
-
Elgar has been poor this season and his wicket said it all.
Playing defence to a spinner and he just flung the bat at it and ended up one handed in his follow through.
Surely de kock can do a better job than the openers there tried here?
Although personally I'd put Amla back up top wth bavuma, who looks to have something about him, albeit on a pitch that is so Alain to him he probably not sure what's going on.
-
Did I just seen that jadeja bowled 17 overs for 9 runs! Blimey that's decent bowling.
-
Dunno about anyone else I'm really enjoying this stonewalling from amla
Why make it easy for India playing one day shots?
Test cricket is supposed to be like this
-
And I thought England get bogged down. Amla 11 off 129 and ABD 0 from 29 at time of writing...
-
Dhawan giving his best impression of murali's action. Must be 25+ degrees
-
Sack ashwin and jadeja. This is the Indian dream.
Dhawan and vijay spin king partnership!
-
Now this is good cricket, bowlers can't just bowl pies and batsmen gift wickets away.. game on!!!

exactly, this is what test cricket is about!!
If you want to score at 4+ an over great but the other team should just block it out and you'd never win with the current crop of bowlers around. It looks like AB and Amla have finally realised that these bowlers aren't actually that good
-
So it only took South Africa the 4th innings of the 4th test to actually apply themselves
-
72 runs in 72 overs .. This must be some kind of record !

Here is hoping for 90 off 90 overs tomorrow. Bat he game away from India
-
Thats the beauty of tests you can have so many different types of game
I think this is good to watch..its a bit of a throwback to old style matches years ago
At Last SA are not gifting India wickets, massive credit to Amla and AB
Incidentally...and i dont know the answer to this...play ended 90 mins early today with 90 overs all ready bowled..i wonder how many times thats happened..so 90 overs per day is the minimum and maximum amount?
You would think there might be some leeway there-it happens so rarely...
-
The epic dog in continues.
Amal went early. But de villiers and du plessis have continued with the strong hold. Despite this pitch looking like it was never meant to go five days.
De villiers took 2 on the gloves from yadav before tea, one really kicked off a length and looked like it hurt.
Du plessis, on a pair must have not been fussed, or was shaking like a leaf for some time. Took him 52 balls to get off the mark(I rank full toss as ashwin tried to bowl a leggie)
2 more sessions to go. I'm enjoying this.
-
5 down South Africa. AB against India again.

Who does this Vilas fella think he is scoring a run a ball 4?

overs have taken over runs!!
love it, good to see a nation fighting hard to avoid defeat.
bring back the 80's !! :)
-
AB goes! 7 down. Epic batting performance from AB.
That should be the end of south africa
-
India win the match. Got to feel sorry for SA, amazing effort blocking out for such a long period.
SA clearly have issues with their top order and numbers 6 and 7. The tail hasn't added any runs recently either.
-
It's all over! AB goes, SA folds. A really good test match to watch. It was all about mental strength and duels. Loved it
-
South Africa are two openers, a number six, a keeper and back up for the front line trio of seamers short of where they'd like to be.
-
143/10 in 143.1 overs with a run rate of 0.99 ... I don't remember the last time when I noticed such unique stat in a test match.

ah but SA have been roundly thrashed in the previous tests trying to play T20 and took this match a lot further. They still lost granted but isn't it better to make it difficult for the oppo to beat you? that's what it's about isn't it...if you can't win, don't lose.........

SA have nothing to feel disheartened about. They played the entire series without Steyn. If Morkel & Abbott could take wickets on the indian tracks, i am sure Steyn would have contributed as well. What they missed was their bowling department not providing sufficient support to Morkel/Abbott - spinners in particular haven't been able to arrest the flow of runs when indian batsman started settling down. W/K choice could have been better as well. You do have Quinton de Kock and Riley Rossow as options but still they went for a different option. I am not familiar with SA local league. Is Quinton or Riley not a test player ? Are they reserved for ODI/T20 ?
