Title: My favourite Bat fixed delamination HOME DIY in the kitchen
Post by: procricket on February 28, 2016, 02:19:17 PM
Well i may have quite a number of bats but not much compares to my favourite shape and bat my uglier Tonto which was made in a batch of two.

Well opened it up and used double width fiberglass tape and twine off another bat a bit of bat glue and hey presto.

No clamp insight also used a kitchen knife to open it up no proper tools at all!!

As you see done in my kitchen to the annoyance of my wife!!!!

It has worked i'm glad to say i value all my bats and try to look after them

Bit of a side theory is my own thought, be careful using mega grain bats on the machine i'm convinced with the lack of sap and also the heartwood they are more prone to delamination due to the compound nature of the balls on the machine(maybe me setting it always on half vollies as well).

Anyway back to what i love doing the best messing with bats!!!

Before

After (needs finer sanding and cross weave on but come out ok)

will take the wife out for carvery she is not impressed!!!!

Bola balls ruin bats. People disagree but that is my experience.

I think if you used them initially it ok however i have seen too many delaminated through over use like i said i think it to to do with more grains make it stiffer from the off and lack of sap and the face pulls off.

The bat was worth saving  :D

So do real cricket balls  ;)

I've found the best way to prolong a bats life is to never hit anything with it (that's my excuse, and I'm sticking with it!)  :-[

Relative to Bola, no. You keep hitting same spots with Bola. Real balls and real bowlers are not so consistent.

The Kooka bowling machine ones do far less damage to the bat. I think their made of rubber

So your not blaming the actual balls your blaming the consistency in which you hit them?

In that sense. Practice ruins bats! Time to buy several net bats people.

Good work on the repair dave.

Hard balls damage bats but with Bola, it is a hard ball hitting consistently in the same areas...

Not all practice ruins bats. Practice with hard, cheap balls, and Bola will do the trick though. People should buy several net bats, it'd be a smart investment. Sometime hard-pressed bats make great net bats too. No Bola, cheap balls would make a dent in those bats.  :D

Here in my hands (technically on the trunk), are bunch of old leather balls and a Bola ball. Guess which one is harder?  :D

I'm safe to use a Bola then, I could face the same ball 4 times, and would use the inside edge, the outside edge, the toe & miss one. (Not necessarily in that order!)

Some say I'm a crap batsman, but it's actually a well thought out plan to make my kit last longer!  :D

obviously practising with ball which have no leather left on them help the life span of your bat...

I thought delamination was caused due to having an anti scuff on for too long?

I thought delamination was caused due to having an anti scuff on for too long?

That is one of the best ones I've seen on here in ages!

Go out and buy a bat, any bat (actually get 3).
Apply a helicopter scoff sheet to one, a fibreglass scuff sheet to one and leave the 3rd one naked.

Leave them all untouched for a few years then check back on them. I guarantee none of them will have de-laminated! It has nothing to do with scuff sheets being applied or not...

No pal it caused by the pressed area in on the face coming away from the softer under wood causing a hollowing sound mate.

Really good players normally get it localised in the middle area us club biffers tend to get it due to the bats old age or usage.

You can sometimes hear a double sound like a crack.

Scuff sheets will not protect you from delamination much hope this helps pal

Yes, if you like, in the same way you're clearly the self proclaimed forum policeman.

And I don't know what an emoji 348 or emoji 773 is but I'll assume it's not complimentary.

If I'm not allowed to answer a question any more I'm not sure what the purpose of a forum is though.

I don't entirely disagree with you, but there is a nice way to answer someones question and a not so nice way. We've all been new on here at some point and asked questions that might be obvious to others, all that's needed is a straight answer.

Oh dear what have I started!

I read somewhere that as the bat is dryer with a scuff sheet on it that a bat is more likely to suffer from it. But I'm obviously wrong

I'll get this out the way now, and let everyone take a dig at me on the back of itif they feel the need to do so.
As well as a fat stomach I have a fairly thick skin anyway...

@e4sby obviously has an issue with me, (and a couple of people clearly agree with him), which I don't really have a problem with. If you like me great, if you don't, I probably wouldn't like me either as I can know I can be a bit of a tit sometimes - I'll put both hands up and admit that.

As for making sarcastic comments, that is just me I'm afraid. Like it or loathe it, I'm not changing for some bloke on the interweb. If I have come across as whatever an emoji473846 I can only apologise.

I can honestly say I am not trying to be Billy big bollox (or Sammy small sack) in anything I post. I'm sorry if I have rubbed anyone up the wrong way, it was not my intention in the slightest.

Chaps, take a look at the Forums Strap line...

"Love the game, share the knowledge"

Some forum members may have a greater knowledge base than others, the purpose of the forum is to share this with each other so that those that are at the start of their nerdy right of passage are better informed as they travel along the road.

Back on topic my bat too delaminated in the middle which clearly means I AM Colin Big Kahunas on here anyway 😀

Thank you for that  explanation so I was sort of right ;-) I knew I read somewhere that an anti scuff sheet didn't help matters and would make sense with my m&h solution suffering from it after having a scuff on it for such a long period of time and getting a lot of use.

Amazed how quickly all of this escalated and thank you for those who have "stuck up" for me - I am not a new member (member since 2009) buy just haven't posted a great deal in that time but have been reading the forums regularly in that time and enjoying it.
