I will start with an old classic bat which procricket wanted me to show. More bats to follow soon, but have to start somewhere!!!
-
whats the admission fee to see this vast collection :D
-
Money can't buy this collection! ;)
BAT 1 - Duncan Fearnley Magnum Supreme
It weighs in at 2'9 and SH.
Condition is pretty damn good considering its age and has been well used!
A few surface cracks and needs a sand and buff!!
Pictures to follow.....

WOW: I have the same scales as the legendary Pete Hosk!
Bat also looks a classic
-
BAT 2 - Puma Ballistic 5000
This is at the request of Charlie -
VERY lightly used in great condition without any cracks or snicks.
It weighs in at a spritely 2'7 and 3/4. Pick up is quite light, and feels like a very decent bat.
Pics to follow!

I guess I owe it to Mr. Fearnley to give it a sand, an oil, and put a nice scuff sheet on and take it to the nets with me!
Two bats down and 90+ to follow...but not tonight!
-
Pete if you ever get bored send it my way
-
Presumably, these are a couple of aperitifs before the starters of this collection... I consider my appetite whetted - what is next? the M and H, a £400 Talisman the PH SAF bat or something more exotic?
-
I may go for the Pete SAF next as it's a thing of beauty - and shows what good teamwork can be done from 2 bat enthusiasts!
-
hey there Pete do you have any Sommers Bats? and how about your oldest bat or is that the magnum? and what about some very early Gilchrist Puma bats? I used to have the old Orange Puma Ballistic 5000, it went down so well once it got renovated by Rob Pack it got stolen while my back was turned!!!!
-
BAT 3 - My attempt at batmaking (with help from Andy at SAF)
Would like to think that this was all my work, but without Andy's help, it would have turned out very differently! :(
It weighs in at a beefy 2'14, and my aim was to ensure that rather than having massive edges, I wanted to take wood from the edges and deposit it in the blade itself.
The meat of the bat is long and wide to ensure maximum power with each stroke.
Andy had his input with his offset edges and perfect balancing - the guy is a Podshaving Guru!!
And I added some lovely Ayrtek bat stickers - and it is going to be an absolute gun of a bat!! :D
It's Grade 2/3 willow with a couple of blemishes and straight grains to make it look respectable. But what it lacks in not having perfect blemish-free grains, it will more than make up for in performance. The mallet test feels awesome, and I know that Andy's input has ensured that I will have a blaster!!
I know it's not to my normal Grade 1 fine English Willow cosmetically, but it's a one-off! ;)

Don't have any Sommers bats - I know about them but prefer the Screaming Cats if I want an Aussie bat.
The Magnum is old, but also have a couple of other bats which I'll list in this topic.
Have a Puma Millichamp similar to Gilchrist used to use. Also have one of the 'Boxing Day' Ballistic bats from Gilchrist.
Half the time I forget which bats I have! But will try to list them all over the next few months! :D
-
Mr Hosk that bat is a beaut :) I'm gonna take a guess as that you will be the only person that will ever be aloud to work with the podmaster :) And have you got any H4L, Redback or SAF?x
-
Andy owed me a favour, as he would not normally have time to make bats with a rookie like myself.
Alas, I don't have a 'proper' SAF! And Andy isn't planning on selling a bat hoarder like myself one just yet! :(
I do have a beauty of a Redback which I reviewed originally in the following topic
http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=3498.0 (http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=3498.0)
But will list updated pics later in this topic and update the review, as it goes soooo well!
And also have a 30 grained H4L which is stunning, but haven’t had the pleasure of using yet.
So lots of decent bats to be listed in this topic! ;)
-
Pete don't you have a black cat shadow?- would love to see pictures of this.
-
Have a Black Cat Shadow that's my main match bat this year - goes like a rocket!
And 2 other Black Cats too! ;)
-
I love that Redback, Looks a train :)
From such a bat expert, what is the best value bat out there under 200 GBP ;)
-
tommo
is any 2 bats from a company the same????
the anwser your looking for is not available
-
Now there's a question without a definitive reply!
Different players like different profiles to be honest!
All I can tell you is that you will really struggle to find a better bat than the Black Cat Shadow for £240!
Same with the Redback for £180!
Have a stunning Lekka RDX grade 1 that cost me under £150 which would take some beating for quality of quid!
Throw in some of the bats of varying prices from Talisman, award winning bats from SAF, not to mention H4L, Ayrtek and other quality custom bats and the choice is amazing!
So it would be a tough decision to choose, but I can guarantee that I am unlikely to ever buy from a shop again!
If I had a budget, I would raise an 'item wanted' topic with my budget and wait for the lush bats to be offered!
-
Hmm yeah true, pretty stupid question. Like I am stuck on what I want :(
-
I think that if you do the items wanted topic, then it may not be a specific bat you get offered.
What I mean by that is you may get offered a 'one off' from Talisman or a specific 'custom made' from SAF?
Foe example, one of the best quality bats I have was a blank which was destined for Younis Khan for under £200 from Talisman. The willow is mind-blowingly good! So don't just think about a certain make of bat.....keep an open mind and don't rush your decision. 8)
-
Any chance you can post a few pics of the Gilchrist bat fella especially the boxing day version, as i have never heard of that one before!!
-
Have a few more to post first but will certainly look at taking some pics soon. :D
-
BAT 4 - Matrrixx Rareblue
This is a huge bat which is massive all over!
It weighs in at a hefty 3lb exactly, fully dressed with it's sparkling labels and with 2 decent grips.
The pickup is ok - I would call it a medium pickup.
Edges are just over 40mm and even the toe is over 25mm.
It has 9/10 ruler straight grains and looks lush quality - not surprising considering what they charge full price for these bats!
These seem to be rare bats so it's nice to have one in my collection.............
Enjoy the photos which will follow

:O wow!
-
THATS HOOOOOGE
quite a pronounced bow as well, or is that just the pics exaggerating it?
-
there is a slight bow, but it's a beautifully clean and huge stunning piece of willow!
Not sure if I'll use it this season as the Black Cat is an absolute gem! But am sure I'll use it at some point! ;)
-
still think the magnum is number 1 on show still
-
Only 4 down and loads more to come yet, including Laver & Woods, Screaming Cats, and Pro bats.
But I think the Magnum will still be your fave whatever comes - just shows you that every person will have their own favourite.
-
magnum or laver mmm
saw the first blue room bat in flesh on saturday was impressed
-
Bats all look lovely mate! I'm also loving the Magnum.
I've got a blue room they are beautiful
-
Well that's the first nice Matrixxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I've seen - most I've had have been a bit doggy!
-
anybody else think bats from certain brands look the same ie grain structure?????? or am i looking at two many bats...
for me the grain on the matrixx looks like a puma....
-
Wow :o that is a nice bat!
-
Thanks Mars - it's a great looking bat, and feels like a monster - as if it would launch any ball into orbit!
But still wouldn't pay the RRP for it!
Anyway, more bats to follow soon.
-
BAT 5 - Lekka RDX Blue
This bat weighs 2'11 with 2 large grips, so 2'9/10 with a single grip.
As you will see from the pics, the 11/12 grains look very nice indeed.
The pick-up and balance feel very good! The 30mm edges are not massive but that doesn't matter too much as it's a lovely bat - good value too!
Pics to follow...................

Thats it, i decided im going to become PeteHosk junior!!! I can see me losing my girlfriend, being skint week after week but i need a collection like yours!!!!!
good luck - Pete has about 100 bats at an average price of probably more than £200, which means that before tax you will need to have earned most of £30,000 - just to spend money on bats, that doesn't include a living allowance, or even cash to spend on the rest of your kit.
dammit I didn't mean to be a grumpy killjoy !!!!
Peter - this looks like another lovely piece of willow. The Genus shaped PH SAF special is a winner in my book. After viewing these bats, I think I have now gone past the aperitif, the entrée and the little shot of sorbet to cleanse my pallet prior to the arrival of he fish dish, to be washed down with a nice Australian Sauvignon blanc... In other words these are good (ok more than just good) - but it is time to see some bats that really will wake me from my sleep deprived early morning grumpiness!!
Actually what i really want to see is a vintage Gunn and Moore Maestro - but that may be a dream to far!!
What have you got in the "big brand" bats - before we go to the boutique brand bats...
-
Am i the only one thinking "where the hell has Hassel-Hosk's fur rug gone?"
This wooden table simply isnt cutting the mustard im afraid! Bring back the rug!!!
-
you are so right - it works so well with the slightly pornstar yellow lighting...
Last couple of pics!

-
Pete probably has a collection of well over 3000 rugs.......perhaps a nice little persian number with some blue mood lighting will set the scene perfectly :D
-
Longy - wouldn't advise it until your salary is very large, as you can't eat or live in the bats. ;) Start small and grow the collection a bit at a time!
You're right Buzz! the outlay is huge, and that's before you need to look at storage space! Will look to see what I have in the way of more major brands, but I did trade and sell quite a number but I will dig some out! And I'm glad that you liked the bat I made, although I obviously had the help of Andy! It does feel special
And I know the bats are lacking a certain class without my old fur rug.....it was a thing of beauty! However, one of the dogs decided to chew it up a little and it was eventually laid to rest! :(
I will see about a substitute - it may not be quite the same but I will see if I can improve on a wooden table at least!!
-
Mr H has the screaming cat above left your collection? may recognise it ?? ;)
-
Hi fella - the new one left my collection....but it was replaced by another one!!
-
ah thought i recognised it....fear not its still looking new and in the back room!
-
just looked at the lekka pete looks a good bat nice dark brown grains and i becoming a snob i like my back to have nice grains as well....
number 1 now of the inventory maybe
-
Dave - the Lekka surprised me too!
Last year I was hearing bad things about Lekka, but that was mainly about the service or the attitude of James rather than the quality of bats themselves!
But this Lekka, plus the T20 bats have really changed my opinion of Lekka. And when you look at the quality you get for the £££, then I reckon it's hard to beat for value for money!! It feels similar in quality to a decent Newbery bat, but a less dosh.
You can normally tell within an hour or so of starting to knock the bat in, how well it's likely to respond and ping. And this is feeling extremely nice and responsive! :D So I reckon this should be a real pinger! 8)
Another one you may consider trying eventually Dave?
-
I will second that the Lekka bats are great value for money, and do actually play rather well. One of our lads plays with a Lekka and loves it. And i have to say James and his Lekka brand have been very supportive of disability cricket by supplying kit and bats free of charge for disability players.
-
BAT 6 - Choice Willow Lionheart
Ok - time for some more!
This is a lighter bat - love the stickers on this one!
It's 2'8 and Grade 1 willow. Around 10 grains and feels a nice pick-up.....but at this weight they all feel like a very light pick-up to me!!
Anyway, here are the pics....

-
I agreed, I was certainly tempted to make an offer on this one when it was with me for a refurbishment!
-
Nice quality bat - light but with plenty of life and power for the size!
Anyway a slightly older Gray Nicolls to follow in a few minutes!
-
BAT 7 - Gray Nicolls Longbow
This is a long handle and weighs in at 2'11.
It's more traditional profile but feels a reasonable pick-up.
Nice willow and carbo handle too by the looks of it.
New and unused and may as well keep it like that I reckon!
Please also note that I am now using a nice Egyptian Cotton towel to add a little 'softness' to the pics! Granted, it's nowhere near as nice as the fluffy rug I used to have, but it will do as a temporary measure! ;)
Pics to follow......

I like that longbow, very nice profile on it.
Im not sure about choice bats, they seem to have alot of wood in the middle and weak spots elsewhere!
Pete are you going to do every bat you own?

Pete are you going to do every bat you own?
I am contemplating it - as long as people want to see them?
-
Of course, especially some of those rarer ones.
-
Ok - will try to do another one tonight!
-
Titanium handle on the GN methinks
-
Will take your word for it! 8)
Next is a 'banned' Kookaburra!
-
BAT 8 - Kookaburra Beast Graphite
Weighing 2'12 with a good pickup and 7 grains.
I believe these are banned in mosy forms of the game due to the Graphite backing which adds to the power.
This is another that I don't intend to use, as it's more of a collectors bat.
As such, I haven't had a knock with it, or even done a mallet 'ping' test on!
Love the back of the bat on this - great graphics! :D

Love the stickers, looks like carbon fibre lol
-
Must say i absolutely love those graphics, so out there! But eye catching and simply fantastic, a definate keeper for you mate! Great bat!!!
-
It is nice! And it's a nice one to have in the collection!
That's 9 bats down and 80 or 90 to go! Will try to get one of the pro bats in every now and then.
But that's all for this evening as feeling tired now! 8)
-
I had the kahuna graphite and tbh don't think it added that much power but looked good
great collection so far pete
-
I like the profile on that choice and the stickers look very good too. Have used a few before and they're nice bats.
Special request for that £400 bat you bought to have a review and any other talismans/rare bats you have...
-
pete
not keen on the beast just not my cuppa but a cheeky little bid on the choice
-
BAT 9 - Black Cat Shadow (main match bat)
As the title suggests, this is my main match bat this season. Started to use this bat in June on tour and got a shock!
In the first over I hit two boundaries which went like rockets. Then three boundaries the following over. The middle on this bat is pretty big and it's amazing how responsive it is!!
The bat weighs in at just over 2'14 but the half dozen team mates who have picked this bat up and felt it have all guessed the weight at around 2'10 or 2'11. The pick-up is light considering the dead weight and the bat feels very comfortable when at the crease!
It has 15/16 grains and the edges are reasonable size but not huge. I guess the one feature that can't be 'seen' on this bat is how responsive it is. I love it when I go to play a gentle little defensive stroke and the ball shoots off the blade like a trampoline! And when I play an attacking shot, then the result is fantastic.
So the best way for me to describe what this bat gives (which can't be seen from the pictures) is confidence! 8)

that pete is number one now look at the grain structure on that.
without doubt forget the 300 grain bats that looks the real deal
and agree if your confident your bat can do it it usually does
-
good to see you are using all the bat, not just the middle ;) I find you get much better value for money that way!
-
Buzz - I always like to use the edges occasionally too. And other parts! What's the use of having a blade that length and then only use the middle?? ;)
But as I said, when the middle is used, it seriously goes! :D
And Dave - it really does perform as good as it looks fella. Couldn't be happier with it.
-
Firstly Mr Hosking . . .that's looks a beauty hope it brings you a shed load of runs.
I do not profess to be a bat expert but my opinion for what its worth is that on bats of this weight
At a weight of of 2lb 10/11 and above i would expect a bat to be very good as you have more volume of wood.
i would rate a bat as exceptional if it was 2lb 7/8 oz and played as well as 2lb 10+ oz
what im trying to say is that getting a light good performing bat is rare. . .they tend to have a smaller middle
-
The benchmark I use for bats over 2'10 is the Redback Allegiance - the Redback sets a very high standard, so it's a great standard to judge other bats by!
I realise that most bats over 2'10 should go well, so when a bat comes along like the Black Cat, and performs even better than the Redback, then that is the equivalent of a 2'7 bat performing like a 2'12 bat!! :D

BAT 10 - Puma Millichamp Original
This bat is a throwback to the days when the JM messiah was making bats for Puma.
Very traditional in shape and profile but yet nicely balanced and reasonablt pick-up too.
This weighs in at 2;13 accoring to the digital scales with 7 grains.
This is one for my collection and not really one I'll use!
Pics to follow.......

Out standing Mr Hosk and thanks for that it looks nearly identical in shape to the old orange puma balistic i had stolen last year. Bit of history there eh i suppose Mr Millichamp made that bat eh?
-
i ve been in that shop was it melbourne city or north sydney???
hate the shape if i honest pete hate the traditional english shape nowadays
-
I do have half a dozen or more of the traditional profiles, such as a purist, a couple of Charlie French bats and a couple of others, but these will be listed in good time.
Just shows that there's no pleasing everyone! I am tempted to try a more trad profile in the nets as I've never really used one. But more to follow. 8)
-
That shape is a John Newbery, passed down to Tim and Julian who have passed it on themselves, classic in the truest sense.
-
Some would say old fashioned but I prefer classic!! ;)
Talking about an old classic, an older Newbery will be on here in 10 minutes! :D
-
I really like traditional profiles... i would say the harlequin profile from 5 years ago is my favourite... balance was perfect.
Do you reckon that bats may move to a more traditional profile in the future?
-
classic it maybe but not that popular anymore....
not a chance classic shapes are a thing of the past.
-
Trends come and go, big bats, light bats etc, it all goes round in a great big cycle.
-
Yer im sure it will change again, unless toms mongoose revolution kicks off soon... i still havent seen one used in match... must be the area.
My harlequin was 2.8 and stick thin yet went as good as anything ive ever used..
-
BAT 11 - Newbery Superblade
And another golden oldie.
Weighs in at a spritely 2'6 and a bit.
Edges......nothing to write home about!
Not sure how it would play or if there would be a whole lot of power in the bat, but even the weakest of batsman could bat all day with it!

-
Do not refurb a bat for the wall, please.....
Yep stick them in the Pub
-
Loving that Puma.
-
Yep - may need to get that addressed soon!
-
Just trying to suss out which bat to post pics of next!
Am trying to save most of the absolutel beauties for later..... ???
-
Pick and Gunn and Moore! :D
-
Indian bat
-
The Newbery Pro bat you got from Asad.
-
How about a Dennis Lillee Aluminium cricket bat? I bet you have one lurking somewhere!!!?
-
Well, the first three requests I will start to look at doing - a G&M, some Indian bats and the Grizzly Pro (now repaired) I can do.....but alas, am unable produce a Dennis Lillee Aluminium cricket bat!! :(
-
Love the shape on that Puma/M&H. Shame that you dont see many bats with that profile anymore as everyone wants a bat with great big edges...
Pete I think its time you put up a review of that 400 quid bat, put us out of our misery!!!
-
I simply can't do that 400 quid bat yet!
I need to save that one for the second batch of 50 bats!! ;)
It's so, so good that it's worth waiting for fella! ;)
-
Pete have you got a SAF yet
-
Well mr Hosk I am shocked, i bet that is one bat you would like to add to your collection? And did Mr Talisman or Tom of Mongoose buy one of e bay a while back? And hey how about a good old Gray Nicolls Bat used by greg chapell i bet you have some classics somewhere!!!!
-
Do not have a proper SAF - only the bat I made with Andy's help. But maybe one day in the not too distant future...........
And keyser, I seem to remember that Mike was watching one of those aluminium bats, but it went to more money than he wanted to pay I think!
-
BAT 12 - Newbery Grizzly LE (not the pro)
This is not the Pro Grizzly - am saving that for another time!
But this is still a beauty!! I think it came from Mike originally, although I got it in a trade and it's a fab light one - 2'7 according to my ultra accurate digital scales!
It has a slight nitch on the blade, but I'm pretty sure it will not affect the way the bat plays if I do use it.
Has 9/10 lovely grains and feels so light. This is one bat I'm tempted to use but not sure if my timing would be out as I normally use 2'12-2'15!

I have a question in my pissed state love being home
if the 400 nicker bat is that good why ain't you used it
no need for abuse the beer garden is fine
-
That's a fair question. comparethedearbat.com simples!
Well.....the same reason I don't want to use my Flintoff bat or any of the pro bats just yet!
And that reason is cos I have only been playing cricket for 5 or 6 years, and each year I find myself moving up the batting order, playing new and better shots, batting improving, and my average getting better!
So as the 400 quid bat has a short life but will live fast and go like a rocket, then I want to ensure that I will be in the best form possible! And only then will I feel like I'll actually do it some sort of justice! :D
-
Jibbed.....
-
anyone got a link to the 400 quid bat?
-
BAT 13 - Gunn & Moore Purist Original (stickered as Icon)
This Purist is 2'8 with very Purist like traditional profile, but someone kindly ensured that it had the nicer Icon labels.
It has thin edges but with bulges the size of a Russian ballet dancer (for the light weight at least!)
I haven't used this yet, but one of my work collegues used it in the nets and it went well.
As usual, pics to follow...............

These bats are in the kit secion chap...not the 'for sale'.
So not really planning to sell any particularly unless there were a few nice offers on the table! ;)
-
I love Gunn and Moore :D
-
Top notch so far mate nice to see you collect the light bats but use a real weight when actually playing lol
-
I'm a fair sized unit, so larger weight suits me better! 8)
-
And just for procricket, an SS is next!
Following in 5 mins!
-
BAT 14 - SS Heritage
This bat weighs in at a more hefty 2'12 and has 12/13 grains - not dead straight, but nice grains anyway.
I have started to knock it in, and even though this is not the most expensive SS on the market, it still feels a very powerful stick! Before 2009 I didn't have any SS (or Asian) bats. I always rated UK made bats as superior. But the SS has certainly changed my opinion in how good some of the Asian brands have become.
anyway, pics to follow.......

very nice SS bat Pete, sometime one can be lucky with mid range asian bats.
-
Yes mate - it's a really decent bat.
Mid range but nice grains and is knocking in really well. :D
-
The other 5 SS bats I have are all far better quality that this though, and these will be listed later! ;)
-
Pete to me, you can replace its sticker's with "gold edition" that much good it looks, what better qulaity do you see in your other 5 bats ?
rds
thasman
-
Be patient my friend and you will see.
Nicer cosmetically. I know this doesn't always equate to better performance, but they are worth waiting for.
-
Hoskers old boy, this topic is gradually achieving legendary status, nice one fella!
-
Totally agree with the above you could always rent a show room and charge to see the bats with the quality and quantity you have could be a winner plus pay for a few new additions to the collection
-
Peter - so far we have seen some old school, some new school, some asian and some roast beef - I think it is time to have a 2020 course before we get to the really special bats...!
I have to say this is a cracking thread - with excellent photographic work and I am loving the hanging basket too.
-
That hanging basket is not my doing.....but that was compliments of the missus!
But I guess the hanging basket and flowers will provide some floral entertainment! :D
Thanks for the feedback so far.....And will include at least one T20 bat in the next few days! 8)

BAT 15 - Gunn & Moore Catalyst Original LE
This is my second of only two Gunn & Moores that I own.
I did own an Icon and a Flare in the past, but they were traded a while ago!
This Catalyst is just over 2'11 in weight and as 14 grains.
It's a lovely bat, well balanced and feels great pick up and in the hands.
Even though it is pre-knocked in, I have not yet been tempted to use it, so it's still a virgin bat - all shiney and glossy!
Enjoy the pics.....................

ooooooo this is nice! I didn't like GM's until I recently tried my friends Catalyst and it was lovely.
However it didn't look half as nice as this one! Even if it's a plank (im sure it's not) just to look at it would be nice!
-
Pete- any nixons in your collection? only ask as ive seen a few recently and they look very nice bats and dont often see them around.
-
I love Gunn and Moore :D
-
this is just pure bat porn!!!
in fact i'm having another look.
mmmmmmmm
-
Nooo, no Nixon bats in the collection fella.......sorry!
-
Pete, more pictures please! Maybe a Puma?
-
I know - I've been slack over the last couple of days.
But you'll be pleased to know that I've just taken a few pics of half a dozen more bats - so lots following this evening! ;)
-
pete have yoiu still got the sp
-
Ok, as long as the down time was spent taking pictures then it all good!!!
-
Yes mate - still have the sp
-
I tell you what Mr Hosk lets have a look at your first bat the one you really used to love that you learnt to hit the ball with!!! Mine was an old puma !!!!
-
I only started playing 6 years ago! But my first bat was a Slazenger V500 Pro, followed by a Kookaburra. Then I splashed out on a Newbery Uzi SPS. But all of those have been sold a long time ago! And so many bats have been and gone in that time!
-
i think we have traded at least 8 bats between us you bat hound
-
We have traded a few and always a pleasure, and never a chore!
-
BAT 16 - Lekka TPX (otherwise known as the Beast of Bodmin)
This is the first of the Twenty20 bats I have, and may as well start with a monster!! >:(
This is the Lekka Envy - longer handle and shorter blade.
The blade is still long enough to be able to play on the back foot, but this is definitely an attacking front foot bat!!
It weighs in at a very strong 2'15, but the pick-up is surprisingly good. With most of the weight lower due to the shorter blade, you would expect it to pick-up very bottom heavy. But it feels more balanced than expected.
It 'only' has 7 grains but oh boy....the entire blade is the sweet spot! ;)
We are talking 47mm+ edges at the widest point! And the shoulder of the bat (the narrowest point) is still 25mm+
Sporting some nice Cadbury type stickers - if this bat were a human, it would be a trendy doorman!
Anyway, pics to follow shortly..........

Thats just mentally big... may have to get one.
Similar in quality to the joker?
-
beast of bodmin is that a reference to were it was made
-
No....just my nickname as it's the only beast I could think of at the time!!
And it's decent quality but I would say that it's not quite as good as the Joker in willow quality!
But to take nothing away from this bat...it's very good quality. But with the Joker you are talking as good as you can get!
So it depends on your budget I guess! But for the moment will concentrate on this beauty! The Joker will come later! 8)
-
peeeeeeeete, im looking for a bat and thought that you would be a good person to ask! mind if i PM you to see what you have in my spec and if your willing to sell?
-
It couldn't hurt chap!
-
if this bat were a human, it would be a trendy doorman!
Best bat comparison I have heard in a long time!!
-
Cheers chap - it's a lovely bat. And I have another lighter one to follow later - only 2'11 but equally impressive blade wise!
Plus of course the Black Cat Joker. So that will be more stocky, trendy doorman types to follow.
But will be adding more 'standard' bats this evening. :D
-
i cant wait till your next SS's the only reason i keep cheking back
-
Just for you fella - I'll do at least 1 SS bat over the weekend!
I recounted and I think I have another 6 SS bats to do.......so they are a bat I rate these days! 8)
-
oh thanks mate im real keen now
-
BAT 17 - Bulldog Mr T
This bat is another big profile bat - huge edges and medium-heavy weight.
It weighs in at 2'14 and picks up pretty well. It's a very large bat for the size - the edges are very impressive at over 40mm, and it's another bat that is large from shoulders to the toe!
The blade feels very responsive with the ball mallet, but I guess it will do considering it is huge! It feels like the kind of bat that would be boundary-bound whenever you made decent contact on the ball.
Not 100% convinced by the stickers as they're a bit grey for me, but they are ok, and I know some of the forum members like them. Anyway - pics to follow.........

How many bats do you have!!!!!
-
I'm not sure - around 90 or 100?
I have been distracted so will continue on this topic tomorrow!
-
Pete, are you going to sell any of them in the near future???
-

BAT 18 - Pumja Ballistic Boxing Day 6000
This bat weighs 2'13 and is quite a hefty profile - more that it looks.
Not sure about the ping yet as I haven't used it in anger.
The pick up is ok - nothing amazing, but feels like a nice chunky and powerful bat.
Size is standard Short Handle

BAT 19 - Blueroom Swell
This is another bat weighing in at 2'13.
Edges are thicker than the Puma just listed.
Robert Pack of Puma fame started this bat company and it feels like an excellent piece of willow with 11 clean grains.
I did post these photos previously in a different topic, so apologies if you have seen them before.

lovely looking bat peter again....
i love the look of blueroom bats looks a great profile
i think i am going to get one pete
-
I have one for sale.....
-
love the blueroom - hate the stickers. So does he still do all the Puma bats (apart from the pro ones)? Where are the regular Puma's made?
-
Just need to clarify things here that Robert Pack (of Puma) initially started Blueroom and later he moved to Puma, right?
ca_gold, I think someone a while ago said that they are made in India
-
Rob finishes bat for Puma, he also owns the brand Blueroom and finishes them also.
-
Rob use to work for Kookaburra, if you go to his shop there are bats from Dean Jones, Thorpe etc that they have returned with thanks. He then started blueroom for a few years before he joined Puma who stopped him making them as part of his contract with them, last year he renegoiated his contract with Puma so that he could relaunch Blueroom as well as doing the Puma pro bats and finishing the top end models.
-
Is the handle a 2 spring or 3 spring on the blue room?
-
Is the handle a 2 spring or 3 spring on the blue room?
Norbs, which do you think is better? most bats have 3 spring handles these days, do they not?
-
both the scats i have only have 2 spring handles
-
Buzz - depends on what handle you prefer whippy or stiff. Like you say 3 spring is the norm nowadays, I will be using both next year plus a new one.
Buzz, Ayrtek - JM is technically correct in using a 2 spring handle
-
My blue room new wave has a 3 springs in the handle.
-
Thanks Norbs
I think I probably prefer a stiff handle - although I have never actually thought about it. What would be the typical characteristics of someone who would go for whippy or stiff? Might have to start a new topic for this...!
"do you prefer whippy of stiff"...!
-
look at most indian players they prefer whippy hense wristy players
-
One minor change i that I've removed one grip - I did have 2 quite thick grips on. But as the handle seemed quite thick already, it feels better with a single grip. And the weight has dropped to 2lb 11 3/4oz!
And just for Norbs, a couple more pics! (Sorry but no 50p!)

BAT 20 - Newbery GT335 SPS (Cadbury Stickers)
This bat weighs in at 2lb 8 1/4oz and feels gorgeous. And in my opinion it looks pretty gorgeous too!
If this were a human, it would be your older sister's cool, trendy and lush mate who you always liked!!
Pick-up is light and anyone could bat all day with it! The grains look fab and the edges are not huge -simply adequate!
But it knocks up so well with the mallet!

Cheers Kalph - enjoy your Newbery when it arrives....
-
My kind of bat, very nice Pete. Brimble special is it?
-
Yep - Brimble original! He gets some blinders!! 8)
-
Do you have a monthly direct debit set up with him then?
Really nice newbery is that, just seems to be a great profile... not too chunky and the cadbury stickers are sweeet!
-
Some people may have "sex wee'd" after seeing that lol
-
A fair amount of wonger has gone to Mike, but only in return for some seriously lush willow! ;)
And that made me laugh colesy :D
The bat looks nicer in the flesh too!
-
i like it i realy do and this will seem silly but is that a blemish on the face
sorry pete but with the quality on offer in your inventory things need sorting and yes i know it does not effect performance...
look a good bat indeed
-
There is a naughty blemish up by the label. Shows in a couple of the pics!
-
very nice bats :)
keen to see some more SS'
and some more newberys
-
Enjoyable reading and some very impressive bats.
Quick question and don't mean to be nosey, why the range of bat weights?
Opportunistic buys for collection purpose or other reasons?
-
I did mean to put more SS bats on - so will give some priority to them.
And not knowing which weight was ideal for me is one reason for the range in weights, although some bats are for use whilst others are for my collection.
-
I've used lots of different shape bats, but i keep coming back to the GT shape, truly a classic.

totally agree

Coming up later in a topic near you.....in fact in this actual topic......
An SS Grade 1 with loads of grains
and a 3lb Charlie French Custom!
Back in a while! ;)
-
You little tease pete
-
BAT 21 - Charlie French Custom
This bat is very impressive - the quiality of the willow looks lovely. The 8/9 grains are pretty even and look great.
It weighs in at 3lb exactly with 2 thick grips and has an unusual profile! Profiles normally seem to have huge edges and spine not that much bigger, or thin edges but with huge swell and more meat on the back of the blade. But this has pretty generous edges and a huge amount of meat everywhere! It feels really well made and has a nice balance!
The pick-up isn't light, but it's not overly heavy either. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being ultra-light pick-up and 10 needing Sylvester Stallone to pick it up) this bat is around an 7 or 8.
It knocks up incredilbly well with the mallet, and I am quite eager to take it in the nets with me - as I reckon it would be an absolute weapon!
It's generously proportioned all over and genuinely hope that I can get on with the profile.

looks a great profile Pete, bat looks old. not been used yet ?
-
I like this profile and has a huge amount of meat, and I reckon it'll be extremely powerful!
I got this bat from a guy of fleabay who had 2 or 3 of them. This has barely been used but it feels quality so was happy with it! It's one of 3 Charlie French bats that I have but the others will come later! ;)
-
Your collection is amazing pete.. thanks for sharing.
would make a lovely piece in a local newspie I feel!
Golders
-
have you got any saf bats pete?
-
I don't believe he does golders! bar one that he himself made from a cleft norbs gave him...
-
don't believe it!
Do most batmakers 'inherit' the skills from their forefathers? or would a podshaver look to hire a chippy as an apprentice? I'm intrigued
-
Cheers Tumo - 100% correct apart from the cleft was acquired from Dan at Vantage.
But andy kindly gave his assistance and use of the workshop...and it remained in one piece!
Andy owed me a favour and I would like to think that he didn't regret it too much! :(
But it was great to try podshaving myself, and then see an absolute expert do it!
-
BAT 22 - SS Ganguly Ton
This is a lovely bat acquired from Talisman. I believe that he had half a dozen hand picked SS bats from India when he was over there. And I happen to have 2 of them. The first one I am listing in my inventory is around 2'13 but feels a little lighter.
It has 15/16 grains and feels quality.
The pick-up is confortable and it feels on par with most of my bats for responsiveness. I think the ping-o-meter reading would be high on this SS, and I will be keeping a couple of these SS bats in my collection for sure!
One thing I have to comment on is the quality improvements for SS bats over the past few years! The improvements in the Asian batmakers such as CA, MB, BAS and SF (and others) have been excellent with SS leading the way. There still seems to be a question mark over whether they tend to overdry their clefts to get the larger edges/sizes for the weight, but that aside, they are well finished and pressed.
All in all, a great quality bat for a very fair price!

-
A long handle / long blade fan!! ;)
-
long handle long blade for a big lad thats bat porn pete
-
Ok - give me 15 mins and will be done! 8)
-
BAT 23 - Millichamp & Hall Solution (Long Handle)
This is not brand new and has a few marks, but no cracks or wear.
Weighs in at a healthy 2'12 with an 'athletic' profile! It looks as though it has power throughout the blade with masses of meat for most shots. The edges are medium with a long middle and quality willow, encased in 7/8 grains.
The pick-up does not feel 'big bottom' heavy! It feels such a nice balance that it seems to make up for the extra meat lower down the blade. So I'm liking this and feel it would be idea for slower wickets.

very nice profile Pete , is this normal profile in solution model from M & H like raised spine at sweet spot ?? as profiles n their site are quite normal.
thanks
-
They do have lower middles, but maybe this profile changed now, as the pics of the newest Solution doesn't look as nice profle?
-
love those stickers, retro to the maxxx!! Any other M&H's like the harlequin or a distinction? more newbery's would be nice too!!
-
I have 2 Harlequins and another M&H which came from Mike. So spreading the M&H bats out a little.
But have taken pics of one of the Harlequins already, so may post them in the next couple of days!
-
Any chance of YK's bat pictures coming soon?
-
Ok fella - will get some decent pics sorted this weekend! 8)
-
Cheers mate. I appreciat it!
-
Ok - tonights bats (time willing) will be an older Warsop and the Chase LB bat made for Hick (Yes, it was me who snapped it up!) :(
-
BAT 24 - Warsop 'old traditional'
This is an older Warsop with a more traditional profile - from a time when huge edges were simply not even considered!
It weighs in at just below the 2'8 mark and feels light and well balanced, and has around 9 grains.
Was contemplating a nice refurb at Warsop but I suspect that these particular stickers would no longer be available
Anyway, pics are on their way......

-
No idea Dave! It's well used but still in usable condition!
Classic older bat! May have to send pics in to Tony at Warsop to ask!
Also, have a problem.....can't seem to choose any less than 24 photos of the Hick bat coming next!
It's a stunner!! 8)
-
well that bat was graded on both looks and performance but primarily on performance
-
Phots sorted! :(
-
BAT 25 - Chase Finback 175
Where do I start with this bat? ???
Ok....it weighs in at just over 2'10 with 2 grips, scuff sheet plus the very nice lebels.
Also this bat has a long blade (2 cm longer) and long handle (around 1 cm longer). But being 6'3 it wasn't a problem.
Hold on.....2'10 with all the extras on and long blade and long handle too? Oh dear! That won't leave alot of willow for the edges and for the middle! If you're thinking that, the you couldn't be further from the truth!
How does 35mm+ edges with a gorgeous pick up and a blade that the mallet and ball ping off like a trampoline sound?
Too good to be true...but this beautifully sculpted and perfectly finised bat was made for a certain Graeme Hick! And we are almost the same age, the same height, the same athletic and fit stocky physiques, we are both known as Mr. H, and first class average of over 50!
Ok, ok....maybe my average is considerably lower than his, but maybe this bat will help it increase!! :(
I've just started to knock this bat in, but I'll be phoning Chase tomorrow as I need to ask if it's been knocked in already due to the blade responding so well. During Winter nets I'll be picking 4 or 5 of my top bats to do full reviews on....and this will definitely be one of them. This is my first ever experience of Chase bats and it's been a very positive one! I realise that this amazing bat is not a standard Chase bat. BUT if the normal ones are even half as good as this bat is, then it will be a blinder! Plus this does show a certain amount of skill and ability. Good job!
As per normal, pics to follow.....

grt bat Pete, one of finest grains I have seen so far on this beauty.
-
pete first it was the M&H solution now you throw this bad boy on,i want both mate
-
Pete - lovely bat - and serious dedication to the forum posting it at 3.11 am.
-
pete
your right it does look better in your pictures such defined grains even too....
glad you like it
your right about the work on the bat and the finish as per usual is top class...
the scuff sheet is also the first to be sold by chase in that design....
-
I know Dave, some of the best grains I've seen! And considering this bat was picked for it's performance, then it'll be an interesting winter net! ;)
Cheers for your comments guys.
-
Sorry Pete, i just can't see how that bat is 2lb 10oz, it is massive for that weight! Scales must be broken ;)
Probably my fave. out of the collection so far!
-
Pete, its official. I Hate You. Well not really but I swear every bat I want or am about to buy you snap up first!!!
-
Lovely bat! I agree with Richard the bat is massive for its weight.
-
My day has been ruined by such lovely bats. :(
-
I know what you mean Richard! Normally long handle and blade bats are smaller in profile due to the extra length of blade.
But this is still huge and I weighed the bat twice on my digital scales to double check! :-[
Mind you, I know this bat looks stunning with the ruler-straight grains, but it will still need to perform seriously well to get into my match kitbag! The bats in there currently are:
- Black Cat Shadow
- Talisman Perfect Storm
- Laver & Wood Firefly Carbo
- Redback Allegiance Hybrid
All 4 above bats have exceptional performance and have set the standard sky high! To put this into perspective, my Screaming Cat Professional hasn't made it in there yet!!
Therefore this Chase bat will have to be on the same performance level as these bats. But I'm actually confident it will be! :D
-
well pete i going to sound confident here i suspect the bat will quite easily get into the bag..
is the profile ok for you mate
-
Pete, its official. I Hate You. Well not really but I swear every bat I want or am about to buy you snap up first!!!
Sorry Al! :-[
Dave and I have traded lots with each other so he did offer it to me before starting the topic. So the only way it would have been offered out is I had of rejected it. And looking at the bat, I would have to be crazy to reject a stunning bat like that!!
And to be honest, if the bat had of been a SH size, none of us would have got a look in, as Dave would have kept it himself!
And yes thanks Dave - profile is excellent! Graeme Hick and myself were obviously seperated at birth! ;)
-
Dave you should of just cut an Inch off the handle it wouldn't of made a huge difference to pickup either but I guess it is to late to say that now :o
-
norbs sometimes as you will know a bat comes along and it is thant good you do not want to change it...
i have a few special ones from dan so why not let somebody else have it....
bargain at 100 sheets and there will be no more like that from dan at that price possible ever...
the blade mate is 2in longer just do not like it..(although i never have seen it in person)
-
Pete your slacking...:P
-
Sorry - have been busy.
But as I have pics of my M&H Harlequin, I think I may do that!
Will post in the next half hour chaps!
-
Love the look of that Chase bat... how would you compare it to the black cat????
-
BAT 26 - Millichamp & Hall Harlequin
This is the first of two Harleqins I have - this being the lighter of them at 2'10.
I ordered it knocked in direct from M&H and spcified good performance above cosmetic looks!
It was also pre knocked in as I have enough bats to knock in already :(
The pick-up and feel of the bat is no less than you'd expect from this classy batmaker, as it's easy to realise how the Harlequin won the best top range bat award on All Out Cricket last year.
It's the bat made for batsmen who play proper shots and not really for sloggers (oh well, that's me knackered then!) and am quite looking foward to seeing how I get on with it in the nets. It taps up beautifully and I like bats with higher middles for their all-round strokeplay and decent pick-up.
I didn't take the normal 30 photos but should have enough pics to post - these will follow soon....
-
Love the look of that Chase bat... how would you compare it to the black cat????
I haven't used the Chase bat yet, so hard to compare! The Black Cat I am using is the best bat I've ever used....so the Chase will have to go some to be on the same level! But on first impressions, it's possible that it may compare very well.
And if it does, then I will be such a happy bunny!! :D

I couldn't have a middle that high :( I only hit it there off the back foot which isn't that often
-
gt335 profile much?
-
amazing profile Pete, Harlequin is originally James Laver invention . right !!!
-
Looks very similar to the GT profile. It has a lot more concaving then it used to. I had a Harlequin (when it had 3 diamonds on the back) - the shape was a lot flatter but it was the shape that made it so popular.
Out of interest - do people likes this years stickers? I'm personally not a huge fan, i'll be interested to see what they do for next year.
-
I have to say i do like this years stickers! Havent been a huge fan of years gone by but this years have really caught my eye, especially like the blue harlequin and the gold distinction ones!
-
I really like that bat, it is so nice.
I think the stickers are brilliant this year, very simple, but still interesting.
-
hellooo Pete .. whats next Sir :)
-
Please please please please a Puma
-
whats the most unusual/obscure bat that you have, and is there a holy grail of bats that you would love to find
-
signature pete maybe?????
-
Pete does not have "signature" yet as far as I remember.
-
nope only mr custombats had one i think
-
Sorry chaps - have had an absolute nightmare week and have barely had time to do anything!
Weekend is here so more bats to follow!
Not sure about Puma yet, as have already posted a couiple so far.
Will have a look to see what I can post!
Most unusual bat? Well, I do have one unusual (experimental) bat made by someone well known, but I couldn't divulge that info! And a Holy Grail bat I would love to find?? With honesty, I really don't think so! The way I look at it, I already have that amazing cleft from Talisman, the Flintoff bat and the Black Cat. And that's before I even think about the others I have not used yet!

Do that barnstormer of a bat that you picked up from mine [sourced by Talisman] when you came over. That bat would of put some laminates to shame!!!!
Holy Grail - what would that be!
Cleft or bat from Talisman, if it is cleft bring it over to get it done, plus you can take me out for a beer at the club again!!!!!
-
There were two of those sourced from Talisman - and both were pretty awesome - alas haven't tried either one yet.
Have only just finished knocking them in!!
I meant the pro bat with 30 odd grains, which is already done.
But I will certainly be looking to get over for a beer very soon! 8)
In fact, it's almost worth getting hold of a cleft from someone, just to bring it over! Any excuse! ;)
-
Ok - been slack and it's time for another bat. So will post a few extra pics to show the nice willow!
Following in a few mins....
-
YAY!
-
BAT 27 - Black Cat Shadow (1st Edition Long Blade)
This is such a lush bat. Cosmetically it has 9/10 really nice grains! They are as well defined as a ballerina's posterior! ;)
It weighs in at a fraction less than 2'10 and has a Long Blade....ideal for the more vertically gifted amongst us.
The shape and profile is sublime (in my eyes) and the quality top notch.
The pick up feels just peachy, although not sure how it will play yet! Knocking in duties will start on this beauty within the next month or two, to ensure it's ready to net in time for New Year!
Not sure how it's going to compare to my match bat, but am looking forward to comparing all the bats from the exquisite Black Cat stable! 8)

quality looking stick pete see what you mean about the grain and another bat you have similar indeed
mate looks a beauty
-
Totally agree with everyone else, great collection and so jealous.
Pete do you just ring up / email and ask what the various batmakers have, or do you ask for bats to be made custom to your requirements at the time. Or even better, do the batmakers contact you and you take these beauties off their hands.
-
Cheers guys!
And I guess it's mainly that the nice batmakers have been very good to me!!!!!
They have generally reserved me some absolute blinders.....
-
Some quality grains on there mate, and also I'm enjoying the use of the pullover instead of the more conventional rug! But again, incredible looking bat, Charlie's made some belters for the guys on the forum from the looks of things, no doubt every bat is up to these high standards! Keep 'em coming Pete!
-
all these bats are spectacular but not compared to the one i got of Pete loll
-
Why what did you get?

BAT 28 - Hunts County Clipper LE (LH)
This bat is a Clipper LE but as I never did like the stickers, I had them removed and decided to apply some nice classic M&H ones - I know some people may think they are boring...but I think they are classy.
It weighs 2'9 and is long handled, but has a fair amount of meat in the blade!
It was almost knocked in and used it in the nets - had a responsive blade and 9 straight grains - as it was the Limited Edition top of the range model! It's a bat that I was happy to keep but it's just disappeared out of my house destined for Will via a trade.
Pictures to follow.......

I shall make sure will treats it well, as we play for the same club! Hope you are happy with the laver and the rerfurb goes well.
-
Pete i have briefly used that laver... can inform you it goes like stink!
-
Pete what grip is that ???
-
Make sure he does - it's a really decent blade and should be long enough for him!
And the Laver really does need a refurb!!
I already have a Laver Carbo Firefly and a Private Bin, so will be nice to see how the Carbo Comet cleans up! And as it's around 3lb in weight, I am guessing it will go like a rocket (hopefully!)
Hope Will likes the bat!
-
Pete what grip is that ???
The grip is a Lekka combo grip - excellent grips!
SillyShilly has some in stock! I would recommend them!! :D
-
Thanks Pete, might get some next week :)
-
Pete i have briefly used that laver... can inform you it goes like stink!
Does that mean it goes well?!
-
Yep - sure does!
But then James makes quality bats that perform! Ad to the the fact that it weighs almost 3lb....
and I would have been extremely surprised if it didn't go like stink!
-
when did you first start collecting bats pete?
-
I guess around 3 or 4 years ago!
But it went up to 100 or more this year!! But think I may have got it down to 80 or so now?
Will find out soon enough, when I run out of bats to review!! ;)
-
amazing! have you contacted guiness for largest collection of bats?
-
Damn...should have thought of that!! ;)
-
Is my maths wrong or it's like £15.000 on bats
-
Yep - prob good estimate.
Too much! :(
-
I think it would be wrong to put a figure on it. anyway, top bats are priceless imo!
-
You're right! Some of the bats can't be replaced easily!!
And it becomes fun collecting bats!
-
I am very envious :)
-
Pete any plans for LW "Signature" soon ??? may be sell few and get that rare one :)
thanks
-
Not yet - other priorities outside of bat purchasing right now!
Plus not sure about the sanity of buying 2 bats and a few other bits for £900+ (or whatever the current price is)
With the Sig, I am very much 'on the fence'!! Yes, it's a fortune to pay out for a bat, no matter how good a bat! But if I was offered Tendulkar's match bat (for example) would I really want to spend £900 to buy it.....tempting but too high a price I feel, even for the best batsman in modern day history!!
But then I feel that £900 for a Private Bin and another bat that is supposed to be even more superior (both cosmetically and performance wise) that the PB. Plus all the other bits including a gorgeous bat box. A high price but if the Sig is better than the PB and the Firefly I already have, then it will be an incredible bat!
I think if I won some money on the lotto, or got a really great work contract that paid a huge wedge of readies each and every month.......then I would do as a treat! But as this is unlikely to happen, then it's just too much to spend for me.
-
Im pretty sure you can just buy the bat on its own... would be around 400 quid at todays rates i reckon?
-
Well - there is a part of his website that has some bats for sale!
These are where an order has been cancelled at the last moment! So James sells them discounted!
There was a Sig on there for a very discounted price...but it was traditional profile so I wasn't interested! Willow looked awesome though! :D
He has a Reserve on there at the moment weighing 2'10 with the 1/2 inch longer blade!! Perfect for me, although would be better if it were a little heavier. And it's for sale for £270 + £35 delivery to UK. This is very cheap for the Reserve bat!
-
I am sure that one must be gone by now, James is making one G1 for me and I am curiously waiting for email from Pilar about the delivery :) , will put pics as I receive . His staff got affected by flu so most of his work got delayed .
-
My LW Reserve is going pretty good. It is 2.11-2.12 with traditional profile (Even I liked bowed profile) But I won't complain because of the quality of the bat.
Thaman: which one are you getting from James? Please post some pics. when you get it..
-
Feel free to post pics....just not on this topic! ;)
I like L&W - and I should post some pics in my inventory topic at some point.
-
And should really post another bat!
I think Canterbury Weapon 500 next! To follow shortly after downloading pics.
-
BAT 29 - Canterbury Weapon 500
This is a limited bat with 500 being made...or so the rumour goes.
Even though CCC seems to be a company with New Zealand origins, I believe I'm right in saying that these weapon bats were made buy Warsop! This is a good thing in my book though! 8)
This is number 404 purchased from a forum member.
It weighs 2lb 10oz and has 7 grains and a very nice profile! The edges are generous but not huge, and the pickup comfortable. Have not tapped this bat up yet, so the ping-o-meter will just have to stay put until the mallet process starts!
But knowing the quality workmanship of Warsop, this bat is likely to play extremely well.
Pics to follow.........
-
You are correct pete CCC europe (based in Manchester) did the cricket kit and warsop made the limited run of bats...priced at over £250 in the shops they went down well from what we were told when supplying them with the softs!

I have always wondered why the edge tape on all canterbury's i have seen have a yellow tinge, as do some of the blades under the scuff sheets!
-
Pete, your collection is simply amazing! do you knock in and use all of these bats? or are most like the puma you sold me, just waiting to be used and knocked in?
-
Pete, your collection is simply amazing! do you knock in and use all of these bats? or are most like the puma you sold me, just waiting to be used and knocked in?
I alwats fully intend to knock in all the bats and use them, but with some of the bats I simply don't get a chance!
By the time I finish this topic, it's likely to be a few months and my inventory changes so there are bats going out and coming in!
So it's just a case of keeping track which bats I have done already, and try to get through them all.
Using all the bats isn't possible, but I am planning a number of winter nets! A few of the colts are as keen as mustard to get as much practice as possible using the bola machine at the sports hall during the dark months! Plus there are a couple of other mates who are wanting to keep the nets going! So I'm hoping to use more of the bats than normal!
-
BAT 30 - Newbery TT SPS
And one for next season now! This was the bat I traded one of my GT335 SPS bats for and a little extra too!
I had an email from Mark Tait who seems to have good supplies of Mongeese (is that the plural for a Mongoose?) and now Newbery TT bats! And offered me a trade for a nice new TT. As Mark has a bad name as a banned member on this forum I was a tad sceptical...but he assured me that he had sorted his act out and was now a determined young man, wanting to make an interesting hobby of suppying bats for the sport he loves!
So I put all doubts to one side, and decided to see if the lad could be trusted! So the deal was done, and I paid at my end and trusted that the new TT would arrive, with finger crossed! And I only had to wait for a day!! 8)
Along it came and it was a very nice bat. 2lb 11.5oz and a great profile with 9 grains, heartwood running along one side of the bat. The edges are extremely generous at just under 40mm, which for the weight is impressive to say the least!
these bats look a little different with the cut-away shoulders, and the handle therefore feels a tiny bit longer than your normal SH!
First little net review to follow......
-
Had a little teaser of a net on Sunday and first impressions are great!
The pickup feels very good, quite light considering the generous size of the blade!
These Newberys feel as good as any! And the fact that it's under 2'12 and feels as powerful as something heavier is good news! Newbery seem to have raised the bar with this one and it will be interesting to see how many of these babies turn up around the various cricket grounds next season!
This is partly knocked in, so used soft balls only. But not sure yet how it will compare with the extremely high standards that Redback and Black Cat have set! It's hard to actually tell how far certain shots would have gone in the nets, but it makes a nice sound and it flies off the middle.
So there will be more updates on this bat (and a few others) during extended net sessions and testing over Winter!
Will this make it to my kit bag next season? Probably! Will it be my main match bat? Not sure! The Black Cat is soooo good that this TT would need to jump through hoops and make me a cuppa in order to be better! But who knows.....

This is a quality bat. I have seen this bat. The pick-up is amazing.
Had this been a couple of ounces lighter, it would have never made its way to the HoskVault :)
-
i want it!
-
another nice bat Pete, just a liitle request if you can please add one "full profile" pic to all of your bats on this topic that will be really nice .
cheers !!!
-
Now that is a quality looking piece of willow.
Pete you are a lucky man!
-
not sure it is luck - so much as wealthy/slightly bat bonkers!!
Pete - keep them coming - loving the jumper option by the way. 8)

And thaman, will continue to include full profile pics of bats from now on. Could do with a better camera but you never know what Santa will bring if I am on the 'good boy' list!
And bat bonkers buzz? Maybe a little! ;)
-
Yet another corker!! Those TT bats do seem to have a nice profile
-
Yet another corker!! Those TT bats do seem to have a nice profile
Newbery do seem to have done a great job in keeping a gorgeous profile, excellent pickup, huge edges, and the weight down! And its a bat I would happily use for a 40 over game as well - not just for T20! 8)
-
Pete I don't suppose you could do my old Slazenger? The one with the Newbery B52 stickers?
I'm missing the bat that scored me my first hundred and would like a review to cheer me up :D
-
I sold it.......No, only kidding!
I will do that bat over the weekend just for you fella.
-
Wow!!!!!!!!!
wot a collection of bats, you are a lucky lucky man
-
Cheers Arif - a little obsessive but fun to collect!
-
pete just out of interest what camera do you use?
-
Nothing special fella - A little Nikon Coolpix 16 - 6mp and compact!
Maybe when I have some spare cash, I'll buy a bat better camera - a higher quality one!
-
the pictures from that camera look fair decent if im honest
-
BAT 31 - Vantage LE
Not sure exactly which model this is but it's a meaty bat, weighing in at a chunky 2'13 and lots of willow.
The 8/9 grains look good and the initial performance is impressive!
This is a bat I may well use in the nets as a quality practice bat, with a fair pickup for the weight.
I used to have a couple more of these Vantage bats but they went to team mates who wanted a decent heavy bat - and they are going well for them. This is proof of yet another quality custom batmaker on this forum.

Looks a top bat Pete, seem to be decent bats at a good price from Vantage.
-
Thanks Richard....Dan makes a decent bat!!
Out of the 4 I have had, all of them have been great.
Will be able to review a little better when I book several nets over Winter! :D
-
any salix bats pete?
-
All good things come to those who wait....have 3 of the Salix variety. ;)
-
any up for grabs at some stage or are they keepers?? (common question for you i am aware of that lol)
-
Well.....you never know.
The Salix bats are used but great! Used one as my second match bats last season! 8)
-
What salix bats do you own pete? I could be
very slightly interested.....
-
Have an older Praestantia, a newer Praestantia Performance and a Fera Performance
-
Nice, fancy a praesanthia, i wait for the review, unless you can pm me some specs/pics across?
-
Well, I do have another 60 odd bats to get through...and I have promised to do AlRidd's ex-Slazenger next.
But I will line the Salix up for after. Should be able to do the Salix either this evening or tomorrow.
-
Ok well can you pm me weights and pick up details across and rough guide price? if you get chance as i know you must be busy
-
pete, fella, you have an unbelievable bat collection.you cant possibly use them all.
if you have any more for sale please do let some of us know.esp the prestanitia newer one
salix are tops.
p.s played against dunstable cc yesterday, are some of you guys from that club? fantastic facilities it was like a county ground, lots of the Dunstable guys have Choice willow and vantage bats too.some of the absolute beauties...
Panasar played their too,1998,their players proudly showed us his colt of the year award(for getting a ton!)
-
Will be putting that Salix Praetantia up by tomorrow, as Longy wanted to see it.
And you're right, using all of them would be impossible!
I'm planning to book winter nets every week over the next few months, and hopefully twice a week if I can!
So I really will be trying to at least review and test as many bats as possible before Nets officially start in January!
And Monty hitting a ton? :o That's a shocker!
And Choice Willow seem really decent - and Dan at Vantage makes some absolute guns, and is a decent bloke too!
-
BAT 32 - Slazenger (Newbery Stickered)
This was acquired from AlRidd and am posting pics to cheer him up!
Evidently it got him his first century, so it should really be hanging on his wall!!
Anyway, it's a Slazenger bat - not sure of the model, but am sure that Al could add more detail.
This has had Newbery stickers applied and weighs 2'11, although this is with 2 grips, so prob 2'9-2'10 with single grip.
Doesn't have massive edges in the same way as some of the bats I have, but the willow feels good quality and I'm sure it will go well....may have a cheeky little hit in the nets this winter!
As you will see from pics, the grains look nice and the bat picks up nicely - comfortable bat to use and feel like you could bat for ages with this one, which is what I would need to do to score a ton! :(
Anyway, pics to follow.............
-
Woohoo :)

looks a tasty bit of wood , would be interested to know the model , i had a v600 pro at one point and that absolutely flew -
-
It was a PowerBlade Ultimate, and it certainly does fly! Thanks for the pics Pete, much appreciated bud.
-
Glad it put a smile on your face fella!
Every time you want cheering up, the pics will be there! :D

And as promised, a Salix will follow a little later this evening. 8)

thanks pete, just arranging bank loan!!!!!

BAT 33 - Salix Praestantia Performance
This was my second match bat last year, so I know it goes very well!
It weighs 2'12, but that is with 2 big grips! With 1 chev grip it would weigh around 2'10.
It's a great piece of willow and it goes extremely well!! It's playing better every time I play with it, and have had several comments on how nice the bat sounds - these comments were from wicket keeper or first slip from opposing teams as I cracked a couple of boundaries! It's the 'Performance' model and it does it well.
Very impressed with Andrew Kembers workmanship. There was a tiny nick by the toe mid last season, which in hindsight was a light surface crack! But having more money than sense at the time, I sent it to Andrew at Salix who refurbed it and after me moaning at him down the phone that the toe was falling apart - he simply laughed at me and told me that there was no damage but if it made me feel better, he would make the toe stronger! So I think he did a light resin or something similar at the tow, as it feels a tiny bit thicker than before. And any cover drives seem to go even better than before, so whatever he did has worked! Or maybe he just fooled me, and it doesn't go any better than before, but he used his Jedi mind tricks on me! Damn those Salix Jedis! :(
Seriously a decent bat with a quality pick up and excellent willow!

Ive got to say Pete that this thread is quite spiffingly brilliant and your commitment to the forum is great to see.Well impressed with the time and effort you are taking with the bat pics.
-
Glad you're enjoying it! There is plenty to come over the next few months too!
And I reckon with a few of the bats going outward bound, and a few coming in, I will continue to update my collection!
Hope to do some more detailed reviews during winter nets too, which may bring a bit more interest!
-
I think its the jumper that makes these bats look so good!

BAT 34 - Malik Bubber Sher
This weighs in at 2'9 with alot of wood and edges, as seems to be normal with these bats!
Very nice light pickup but it still feels meaty enough to do some bowler damage is required.
Yet another bat I haven't knocked in and tried in the nets yet - but fingers crossed I get round to it soon!
I won't comment as to whether it will go like a train, but these bats generally play very well indeed.
Will keep this one short - pics to follow..............
-
what does Bubber sher actually mean? I'm keen to extend my universal cricket language beyond 'shabash' and 'lekka bru'....oh and let's take a wicket 'in shalah' is another one I like. A

lion. hence the stickers.

very nice pete :P
-
In my opinion, the Bubber Sher has one of the nicest profiles going - i was tempted to buy that bat off Fattus earlier this year, unsuprisingly it has ended up in your gargantuan mitts :D
-
Well, it's a very nice bat anyway! 8)
-
Yet another stunner Pete.
Incredible profile size for 2lb 9!
Keep them coming!!
-
Cheers chap.
The curved profile make the edges look bigger than they are on this malik, but they are still over 30mm and high spine height with lots of meat in the blade. Another powerhouse of a Bubber Sher with a relatively light weight!
Anyway, another bat to follow sometime today!
-
Pete do you have a newbery with a c6+ handle?
If so would you care to do that?
-
What criteria do you select your bats on as there are a broad range of weights and shapes shown so far?
-
This thread sure will warm the soul during those dark and miserable months till early season nets start!!
Keep it going Pete, its great to see and even better to think we are about 1/3 of the way through!!
-
dont think i could use/own anything with the words 'shahid afridi' on it!
-
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, there are a few bats I regret selling................
-
Pete do you have a newbery with a c6+ handle?
I used to have two - a Mjolnir and Uzi, but both gone now!
Have a few other Newberys I'll post pics of at a later time though!
-
What criteria do you select your bats on as there are a broad range of weights and shapes shown so far?
Boredom.....need an interest to fill a void in my empty life....and is better than filling the void with custard creams, jammy dodgers and wagon wheels!
Seriously, no particular criteria! If I like the look of it, I buy it.
It's allowed me to find out what bats I am suited to, so a good thing! And it's allowing me to try more bats than I could ever dream about!
-

He's not on great form. But when he is, he is still a brilliant all-rounder. Although he has to lose the beard! :)

The Malik is a nice one, isn't it my furry friend!

BAT 35 - CA Grade 2 (Stickered as Grizzly)
This is a grade 2 CA - 6 grains and 2'13 in weight.
Nice profile and what it lacks in grains, it would make up for in power!
I know it's not multi-grained beauty, but it feels a very decent quality stick, and the Grizzly stickers are very nice! ;)
This may well be one I use as a pure net bat, or in damp weather! But it may well turn out to be good enough to use in matches...time will tell!

looking good pete :P
It may not have 25 straight grains, but I reckon it'll be a decent bat!
-
is that the bat with the fewest grains in your collection?has anyone seen a bat with just the one solitary grain?? ???
-
I think it is actually! The bat with fewest grains!
And at the other end of the scale, I haqve a couple of 30 grained. And also think I have an all heartwood 32 grainer!
-
total heartwood??!!wow do u have any with pretty much total heartwood and bit of non-heartwood on the outside edge (had a blank there) triple xxx bat porn this is,almost illegal.
-
Cool - will keep going then fella!
He's not on great form. But when he is, he is still a brilliant all-rounder. Although he has to lose the beard! :)
more due to the fact he is a disgraceful excuse for a human being and a massive cheat!
-
A cheat? are you sure? He hasn't bowled any no balls! ;)
-
im thinking more about scuffing up a good length with his studs during a bomb scare, or biting cricket balls to gain an unfair advantage. I could go on, hate the bloke! cant believe he is still around now
-
Number of grains dont matter too much - got a GM Hero 808 with 7 grains and it goes like a train!! Best bat I have ever owned....

You're absolutely right there! Am hoping that this is a gun of a bat when I try it out at nets.
It's certainly big and meaty enough!
-
As per Buzz, my larger coin has arrived thanks to ebay - just under the 40mm so ideal for those beefier edges!
So to celebrate this, I managed to take a couple more pics of bats previously posted in this topic with the new coinage!
So a few pics of the Newbery TT, Blueroom Swell, Matrrixx Rareblue and the Lekka T20 brute will follow.

You do spoil us pete :)
-
Great to see the BES at work - those really are some PHAT edges.
I see one coin wasn't enough!!
-
You may have to patent the new measurement systems
-
Norbs got their first :(
Either way I am a caring sharing kind of chap, happy for all to be involved. The clock is ticking for the BES to make it's first appearance on eBay...
-
That Blue room is a MONSTER!!! But the Mattrrixx is even bigger!!!!! Has it been reviewed yet?
-
Both have been reviewed in this topic.....but not fully reviewed yet!!
There should be lots of full reviews over winter though.

Jeez... Big Bats. hope they score a lot of runs, and I'm not really jealous at all, honest!
-
BAT 36 - Talisman Perfect Storm
This is a special bat! Weighs in at under 2'11 and is very large with unreal quality willow!
It is most definitely in my kitbag alongside my Black Cat! The edges are not alot under 40mm, which is pretty impressive considering the weight! And before anyone asks, NO it's not a laminate!
There are around 12/13 grains - these are not exactly dead straight. But this really doesn't matter as this is size and performance on this rocket! I thought it was knocked in and used the bat in the nets without a sheet and got 2 tiny surface cracks. These are not deep or nasty, but I have now done the relevant hammering and sheet / edge tape application!
And whilst knocking the bat in, I got more and more excited! The bat was very responsive to start with.....but it just got better and better as I knocked it in! The willow is like a trampoline and has that gorgeous sound and bounce that is not that common!
Have I used it in the middle? Not yet! But in a T20 game, I was brave enough to lend it to a no10/11 batsman. The only reason I leant it to him was because I knew he wasn't a hard hitter and never dealt in boundaries....in fact the score sheet generally had 1's next to his name! But when he got out after scoring 7 runs (better than normal for him) he was smiling like a Cheshire cat! The reason for this was a little glancing shot that he played to the leg side for a single, and stopped dead in his tracks when the fall went like a bullet to the boundary! He was happy and admitted that the boundary was down to the 'ping' of the bat and not his batting skills! But he is now a big fan!
~Anyway, have included the picture of the 40mm coin (otherwise known as the BES measurement) And I am so looking forward to using this bat in the nets! The bat wasn't cheap, but I am pleased to say that in this case I got what I paid for!

That is impressive
-
I second that. It's massive and impressive.
From what I have read on this forum Mike when getting his bats made or Talisman bats usually look for those massive profile bats rather than grain savvy bats. The bats which he owns and the kind of profile they have look no different than a professional players. Personally I really liked this thought, hence, when I got my bat made recently I asked for samething.
Thanks Mike and Pete :)

Another one of those bats that tricks the scales into thinking its far lighter than it clearly is! ;) Lovely bat Pete!
-
Just recalibrate the scales so that nobody knows that it actually weight 3lb 2oz! ;)
Only kidding -it is really 2lb 10.5oz so a lot of bat for the lb!
And another bat that I will have fun in the nets with during the long, chilly winter evenings!

Pete, I am tempted to come to a net session, To see all these bats in the flesh,
-
Mike does seem to have quality willow as like Cover-Drive says, most of his bats have very large profiles for the weight. Another cracker there Pete and the stickers are growing on me!

Mike's Bats are good pieces of Willow, I also own one, For 2lb 9oz it has a very large profile,
-
Does it pick up well?
-
Does it pick up well?
Very Well, I think pictures can be found in the bat review section, Mike is a fantastic guy to deal with, He hand deliverd the bat to me the day after i bought it
-
I have to admit that this bat picks up beautifully too!
A number of people have looked at this bat, and picked it up. And it's funny to watch their face as they see just how beautifully balanced the pick-up is!
Every one of Mikes bats I have are stonkingly good!
Although there are other beauties in my collection too, most of which will follow! 8)
-
iv got a willowstix bat from mike that he stickered up for me and i do love the look of them , its had plenty of comments (all good) down at the club , one day ill get myself a perfect storm
-
Pete, I am tempted to come to a net session, To see all these bats in the flesh,
Well - you never know fella! I have a couple of the colts more than willing to come and test and review some bats.
So there may be willing to throw an invite or two out.
I must admit that I do seem to have some pretty decent unused bats that I still need to review! 8)
-
If that was bat number 36 then am I right in thinking only another 50 - 60odd to go!!!
-
Somewhere around that amount.
Was sorting just some of the bats out over the weekend and took some pics:

Oh my goodness I would be like a kid in a sweet shop!!! So so envious!
-
words cannot describe how jealous i am :p
-
I've been in cricket 'stores' that have far poorer selections!
-
This is only a few of them.
Not quite sure how I accumalated so many bats.
When I look at them, most are decent bats, so am quite pleased with the overall quality! :D
-
Best part of your collection for me is that rather lovely multi coloured bowl Pete. The bats are getting a bit boring, can we have more bowls please? ;)
-
I'm interested to see the miniature bat lurking around the corner masquerading as a bottle of wine!
-
Will have to mix the bowls in - maybe include the bowls in with the bat and jumper pics?
And obviously thats not a real bottle of wine, or the missus would have had it already!
-
pete whats think pink puma like, the one hiding right at the back of the first pic
-
That isn't actually a Puma fella!
They are lovely pink Ballistic stickers I purchased from GCCC and used them on a big 3lb beast! ;)
-
excuse my ignorance, but i see gccc mentioned a lot, what is the mighty gccc ?
-
GCCC = Greg Chappell Cricket Centre
Website = http://www.cricketcentre.com.au/
-
i see, whats postage on a set of stickers to the uk ?
thanks
-
I reckon 5 Pounds...
-
I purchased a number of sets to keep the postage down!
But then Customs stung me so that didn't work out! :(
-
what did customs sting you for then ? im in nz at christmas so might enquire ;)
-
I think it was £30 or £40!!
Part of that was Customs, and part was 'Administration' fee or something! Hmmmm!
-
Ouch , so what did you buy and how much, if you don't mind me being so nosey :)
-
A few sets of bat stickers, some grips and a few little bits.
-
i dont think people will ever get tired of this Pete. Amazing effort both with posting and purchasing all these fantastic Bats.. how on earth do you choose between them? i can just imagine if it was me....Wake up the morning of a game, bats lined up, eyes closed, eeeny meeny miney mo :D
-
Yes totally agree with ProWannabe. This is the ultimate thread for bat lovers. I have seen all 36 bats and still can wait for the next one!
-
So what's next Pete? Getting twitchy waiting for your next bat!
-
Orry chaps - been working away last week and this week! So haven't had chance to do more. But will be back on it this weekend as have another couple of beauties. Plus may be getting a few more very soon too!
Sorry to keep you waiting! :)
-
Are we going to see any more of your amazing collection?
I miss my daily look at your collection whilst dreaming of owning just a few of them!
-
Patience RichW. Anything that arrives in this thread is worth the wait. Gives you something to look forward to. I'm sure The Hosk has plenty lined up for the winter.
-
The problem is that I have been working away during the week.
But I have a cunning plan.....................
I will have a major photography session at the weekend, which will give me time during the week to sort them and start posting more!
Will start this very soon! 8)
-
And you will have added more to your collection soon Pete !
-
how is the photography session going Mr H?? waiting with bated breathe for the next weapon of mass destruction!!
-
Mr hosk how is the photography coming along? anything extra special to look forward to??
-
Will be back on this topic in the coming week!
Sorry for delay chaps! :D
-
Pete, welcome to the forum mate. :)
Hope everything is back to normal :D
-
And he's back! Bat porn can resume now ;)
-
Mr Hosk your alive..........
-
He has been working hard to be able to buy more bats for us to look at
-
fair play.....
i'm looking forward to seeing a Legend review with pics and also a M&H Amplus please
-
Pete, I'm dying to see the review of your Redback match bat ...
Btw, have you had a chance to break out the Chase Finback (Graeme Hick bat) in the nets yet? That one just makes me go hubba hubba hubba everytime I look at it :)
-
Well - I did do a full review on the Redback a year ago - if you haven't seen it then go to
http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=3498.0 (http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=3498.0)
The Chase is a beauty, but not knocked in yet so will not risk it without a gentle tap first! ;)
It is a stonker and cosmetically it is a stunner. Taps up damn well too.
-
Thx mate, I had read that review some time ago. Just didn't put 2 n 2 together, since it was in a separate post. Great bat that!
Hope you get to knock the Chase soon and get to use it as well. Willow that special should get loads of facetime with hapless bowlers :D
-
Can't promise the Chase bat yet, or a M&H, but I have got some amazing bats in my collection ready to be photographed!
Keep watching over the next week and will post a couple of bats with lots of pics.
Then am getting a nice new Nikon DSLR for Crimbo, so it wouldbe rude not to put it to good use really!! ;)
-
Anymore updates Pete ?
(stares at Show unread posts since last visit in anticipation)
-
Have some good news and some bad news!!
The bad news is that my daughter decided to take my brand new lovely Nikon digital SLR into school so will have that back next weekend - which is a shame as I had a bit of a camera shooting weekend planned yesterday and today! :(
But the good news is that I counted what bats I had in my collection yesterday and I do not have 80 bats now....I actually counted 115 bats! 8) 8) That was a bit shocking but it means that there will be more work for me to picture tham all. But more joy and entertainment for you guys!! ;)
-
115?! Flipping 'eck! Surely you're in line for some world record mate!! :) That's bonkers!
-
Any hawk bats in your collection pete?
-
Pete do you own a SAF bat yet ;) ?
-
i bought the hawk off Pete mate
-

-
And yes - SAF and Hawk bat in there!
-
Purist and Catalysts pleeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssseeeeeeeeeeee :D
-
are going to have a massive bat sale one day pete?
-
I thought Andy was refusing to sell you a bat Pete. I guess that changed with your new deal! :)
-
Colesy - that was the list of bats already listed on here, so just page back, find them, and sigh longingly!
I guess I should sell a few at some point! But my collection seems to change bit by bit!
Plus there are so many decent quality bats that it is really tough to choose between them! If I were forced into choosing just a dozen bats to keep, then it would be a nightmare!
As well as a Hawk Xbow and SAF Erus, there are also some of the following:
Crown, Lavers, Screaming Cats, Newberys, Adidas, Bradbury, SS, Solitaire, AS, (New) Duncan Fearnley, Redback, BAS, Puma, Millichamp & Halls, Charlie French, Lekkas, Itias, CAs. Salix's. Kooks, Vantage, Hell 4 Leather, Pumas, Talismans, Gray Nicolls, Black Cats, MB, and various bats made for sponsored players. The quality of some of them is very special indeed. So lots to look forward to! :D
-
you have the new DF Pete i'am envious maybe a swap coming your way????
-
Can't believe you would swap some of your collection as surely you have everything pete
-
Out of interest, did you get some Premier willow for the Erus, or Implicit/Innaugural?
-
can not wait :D
want to see the crown and charlie french !
-
And the SAF is my 'demo' bat. It's sort of Implicit type quality, and a blinder! The Grade 1 bats Andy does are pretty damn good, so this implicit should be even better - will find out within the next couple of weeks!
As much as Andy wanted, it was impossible not to provide a demo bat for me to use and show!!
Plus I know that Andy is a total willow geek who makes a quality bat! But I also need to be able to say that I have used his bats if I am to believe in the high quality of the SAF brand!!!
And I love the stickers on the new DF Magnum! Identical labels to Solanki one.
-
iam sure i can find another Hick bat around to quench your thirst
-
Nice stickers remind me of my Dads old supreme
-
holy shitball
the best bat sticker ever bar the original chris broad whelding supreme
-
that is a beauty Pete..... good old DF..... guess they still have a cult following...... have to make a trip down to them....
I think Andy got you on-board as a security for if the bats didn't sell well. He could have sold all the good ones to you :-))
-
Duncan Fearnley are back! :)
-
Bit of meat in the profile too, although the toe is slim!
-
the one on the df website looks like a laver special
We might need to talk about a deal Pete Maybe
-
Just watching Clive Llyod smashing/hammering Aussie/Eng bowlers using his DF.....SkySports3
100 in 100mins and just 82 balls!!
Pete you going to get anyway near that?
-
Love those GMs <3
-
I do love the DF and there new stickers. I went down to the shop last week and they had a few 5stars in all had lovely profiles but horrible grains. Now I know looks are not everything but some were right dogs full of stains etc. Mind you this was probably s good thing as it stopped me buying one. I loved the Magnum retro ( not currently on website) as it had a lovely profile.
-
The 5Star I have is a looker and a performer too.
Mike has a knack for getting very special bats and this was one he got!
I already have quite a few pics of this one, so I will upload them and post pics on this topic this week!
It can be my next bat (37) :D
-
any chance of a few more DF photo's - thinking of buying a Magnum Super.
-
BAT 37 - Duncan Fearnley 5Star
Ok - time to get this show on the road again! It's been too long!
Here is the new DF acquired from Mike a few months ago. I understand he got it himself from a visit and this bat was a little special. It is an unusual profile with more curves than Beyonce! I seem to remember that the weight is around 2'11 or 2'12?
But not sure as I am not at home today, so will weigh it the weekend! I will include a BES pic with the 50p as the forum standard! ;)
It has a really nice pick up but the toe is a funny shape so wouldn't suit an opener with tendancy for drives on a low wicket!
So I will be fine with it, being the slogger I am!
Nice willow and got to say that I really do love the simplicity of these stickers! They are almost retro too! 8)
Anyway, will let the pictures do the talking.......

Looks a nice profile up my street this bat is...
Cheers Dave
-
Offset edge? Or is it just my eyesight ???
-
Ever so slightly! That's just not playing fair! How rude!!
-
thanks for the pics - looks very nice
-
Looks great!
The toe indeed looks slightly different than normals
-
Well I like to give you guys a more diverse range of bats!!
Something for everyone! 8)
-
Pete, please can we see the bat you least like? ;)
-
Hmmm, interesting request! I like your thinking though!
It will have to wait until the weekend as I will have the camera back.
But yes, I can do that for sure. :D
-
Mr Hosking. . . can i request pics of Mr Afridis bat.
-
Can we see James Franklin's, Younis Khan's and Shahid Afridi's stick anytime soon ?
-
Hmmm, interesting request! I like your thinking though!
It will have to wait until the weekend as I will have the camera back.
But yes, I can do that for sure. :D
I thank you
-
Guys - they are the specials which I was saving for the finale!!
They will be shown in all their glory! That you can be sure of! Same as the other specials.
I am having a camera shoot at the weekend so will cover as many as I can.
-
Peter. . . .by the time you get toyour specials. . i'll have a free bus pass.
you have far too many bats. . .. .lucky get
-
I am aiming to have all the bats listed this year! 8)
-
one question are your bats insured
-
I didn't think of that until last weekend when I was looking at the absolute quality of some of them.
In fact most of them are very good quality, as I have been choosy about what I buy!!
So I am looking onto it! Security is fine with 2 dogs at home. But if the house were to burn down or there was a huge flood then I can't imagine what the replacement cost would be! And some could not be replaced anyway!!
-
suppose in terms of a flood they would all become high density and high moisture content...
sorry could not help myself top bats pete as per usual
-
I'd get a safety deposit box at my local bank which can hold 115 bats.
-
BAT 38 - M&H Solution
I got this bat a while ago and as per a high percentage of quality bats, it originalted from Talisman. From what I remember it came from Tim (probably blank) and someone kindly saw fit to apply some older style M&H Stickers. I love these stickers so much that I have since purchased a further couple more sets from M&H!!
In the case of this particular bat, one of the things I really like about these stickers is that they do not cover up too much of the bat - so I can still look at the beautiful grains on the bat - aroubd 20 of them in all with heartwood galore!
It weighs in at 2'10 and 3/4 exactly but is beautifully finished and balanced with an excellent pickup considering the lower middle. Yes, the pictures don't do this bat justice really! If this bat was a person, it would be the girl who always looks good in photos, but when you see her in the flesh then you realise just how stunning she is!
No ping-o-meter readings yet as I just don't want to use this bat. It's a waste but I am happy to just admre the bat every now and then at the moment! 8)
Pics to follow shortly..................................

Those stickers are lush mr hosk. Never seen them Before either. I must have some !!
-
I think they are from 2003 or thereabouts? Hopefully someone can confirm.
But I got mine from M&H.
And they are simple but so classy! And on a bat with lush grains, they just look so good!
-
So glad that you've got this thread back up and running Pete. I can stop looking at naked ladies to get my porn fix.
-
Yep - me too....the glad I'm doing the thread again! NOT the naked ladies! ;)
-
Great to see you back in the business pete! Bat and sticker both look impressive!
Bat looks a lot like KP's stick with all those heartwood grains
-
glad to see u back, doing the inventory ...... solution looks really good
-
Bat looks lovely, but the stickers are something else! Seriously, M+H choose NOT to use those nowadays?! Classy, understated, classic. All you could ever want in a sticker!
-
Does look very classy both willow + stickers
-
That's a belter mate glad you got the photos up really nice grains and shape
-
I might have to steal that sticker design...
-
Pete, that M&H is arguably one of the nicest bats i've ever seen.
Beautiful bit of wood and the stickers are so minimalistic but really work too!!
-
loving the bat an front sticker, is it just me or is the back sticker on wonky?
-
nah mate, just the grains. IMO the back sticker needs to be as thick as the front.
-
ah ok, i just thought that the sticker seemed to be at an angle over the spine.
-
Those might be the g-string of bat stickers. They reveal a lot but hide just the unpresentable areas ;)
-
i had the green original version of stickers on my bat. Pete is correct, they are from 2003
-
BAT 39 - Laver & Wood Private Bin
In celebration of the laver activity on the forum currently...................
Next (after a damn long break) is the laver & wood private bin. It is a long blade although only 1cm longer or so!
It weighs in at 2'11 and has 10 straight grains. I purchased this 3 or 4 years ago direct from laver - sent over and no customs charges! ;)
And yes, it needs a refuerb to make it sparkle again. It has only been used quite lightly as the firefly seemed to be my weapon of choice at the time! Edges are not huge at around 32mm but the spine is very generous with a generous middle.
Quality laver but will let the pictures do the talking, although I may treat it to some nice new shiney stickers soon!
Pics to follow........
-
refurb was that pete you know where i'am.....
i.m doing a firefly in the next week or so get it in mate :o

welcome back

Whilst most men are out drinking on a Friday night, you're taking photos of your bat... A man after my own heart! (If that's the correct saying!) 8)
-
Good to see you back on this legendary thread fella. What shape/profile is that Laver? I have the same bat with the same labels but could never figure out what profile it is.

-
Whilst most men are out drinking on a Friday night, you're taking photos of your bat... A man after my own heart! (If that's the correct saying!) 8)
I can drink any night mate, but playing with a collection of bats is just something a lot of people would not appreciate!
-
Good to see you back on this legendary thread fella. What shape/profile is that Laver? I have the same bat with the same labels but could never figure out what profile it is.
Cheers fella - I have 60 or 70 bats to photograph and post! So I need to get busy!
I think Dave is right and it's the older special profile! It's a really tasty profile which no doubt will be used by other makers.
-
you have knocked the edges well on that.
welcome back pete to the bat inventory. i hope it goes on in a regular basis now.
-
I can drink any night mate, but playing with a collection of bats is just something a lot of people would not appreciate!
I so wish I had your collection! And if I had the dollar I would. But I'll have to settle with my 4 bat collection for now...even though I play like 10 games a year at the moment
-
Collection just grew over the last year or two!
But it's fun and there are some amazing bats to come yet!! Next will be a lam made for Afridi, even though he obviously would never use one!! ;)
The quality of willow on this next bat is just something else!! But you'll have to wait until the weekend! ;)
-
But you'll have to wait until the weekend! ;)
You tease :D

I know - got to get the interest back on this topic as I have been too slack!!
But it's worth the wait!! Then as a favour there will be a M&H custom made which has the most perfect pressing and a profile which will blow your mind!! ;)
Anyway, can't start getting too far ahead of myself! :(

Pictures of your SAF?

SAF pics will be soon as the bats deserve a top quality spot!!

BAT 40 - MB Malik Bubber Sher (Afridi Bat)
This is a very special bat weighing in a around 2'10. This was made for the man himself although being a laminate he obviously wasn't interested in using it, as these players simply never use lams!
Anyway, beautiful grains and taps up better than almost any bat I have! It is simply top notch as good as anything I own!
Not even knocked it in yet so will go carefully when I do.
The stickers would not be to everyones taste but when the bat is this good, who cares! ;)
The edges are pretty generous at just under the 40mm mark but not obscene. And the bat is perfectly balanced with a beautiful pick-up and feel. In short it is a beauty, and is almost certain to play even better than it looks!! 8)

looks like my perfect bat :O
-
Nice looking bat you have there fella!!! I Wonder if Mr Afridi noticed it had gone missing !!!!?
-
He got so annoyed that he changed brands! ;)
-
Very good or should i say Boom Boom like basil brush says !!!!!
-
Some of us are more than old enough to remember him well!!!
-
I named my dog after him...hehehe
-
Yeah i bet who ever thought up Boom Boom never knew about Basil Brush. Nice looking bat that MB and Mr Hosk i have not seen many Kookaburra bats up in this topic!! Does the man not like them? Or are they to come in the near future? I was thinking you are bound a ricky ponting or graphite covered beast some where? And as a vague question what is your most recent addition to your collection? Also have you purchased a Gray Nics legend? And what bat is going to be your match bat for the season to come.
-
And yeah i used to like Basil Brush and G Force back in the day!!!!
-
G force, or battle of the planets as it was branded in the UK. Brilliant!
-
You have me there fella i thought it was just G Force
-
Have you charged up your camera Mr Hosk??
-
Next bat will be on here within the next hour or so!
It will be a...................hmmm, actually you will see soon enough chaps! ;)

BAT 41 - Millichamp & Hall Custom made
This is such an unusual bat! It weighs in at around 2'12 and has the nice retro type stickers on.
It has a superb pick-up which feels lighter than its' weight, and has absolute perfect pressing! The mallet bounces off the bat, and I have found that the middle is immense!
As you will see from the pics of the bat, the edges are nothing special.....so some people would not appreciate that! But the spine height is 70-80mm! The spine goes the full length of the bat ensuring there is meat and power almost wherever the ball is hit from on the bat! I am really looking forward to giving this bat a go, as I suspect that it will just be fantastic!
To summ up...the pick-up, balance, middle and performance will be excellent! Will it make it into my main kitbag? I suspect it might just sneak in there! ;)

Very pointy!
-
Thanks chaps - its quite an extreme profile and considering the middle is lower, the pick-up is excellent, which surprised me!
-
As I said, the middle is long, but its quite wide too! So will wait until I play on a flatter track where the balls stays a little lower and give it a blast I think!
-
M&H dont do bad bats. . .
-
But if they did.....?
-
I like the very long and thin spine - can imagine it being very "airy" in my hands!
-
What's going on with the toe?
-
Looks like lots of tape.
-
Nice bat like the profile, the grain lovers + big edge lovers may not appreciate it tho
-
Nice bat. Good to see your bat buying hasn't stopped Hosk!
The distinction profile is growing on me slightly, just thought it looked a bit odd at first with a huge spine and thin edges.
Seems like an elite forum club with these stickers, was lucky enough to have a set a while back but sold them on.
-
I may tidy up the toe with the tape - still needs protecting but could be tidied!
The shape is unusual - when you actually see it in the flesh, spine is extreme! But there is lots of wood behind the large middle.....just little edges! But after a while the profile grows on me! I may contact M&H about some replacement stickers towards the end of the season to tart the bat up a little - but will see how it plays first! All indications are that it will play beautifully!!
-
Love the profile on that Pullichamp, high spine has gone somewhat from bats :(
-
does this thread still be used
-
I have a fellow member and good friend who has so far done a little testing and a few reviews on 5 or 6 bats so far, and therefore I will be continuing with this topic very soon, as I still have dozens of top notch bats to post photos of. And I will include a secondary review from the guy who is helping me test them for a totally unbiased opinion!
So more will follow in the next week or two. ;)
-
Good to hear it mr Hosk looking forward to hearing a few reviews and come on you must have a few rare kookaburra bats kncking around some where? I have just Read Justin Langers biography and was thinking i bet pete hosk has one of his bats or haydos's bats in his collection knocking arouns somewhere!!! So have ya lol?
-
could i just ask who the fellow member is who is reviewing your bats and where he is putting them on here?

Me! I've had a knock with about 10-15 of Pete's bats so far and have another 5 to get through this week! I have been giving Pete my thoughts on them and I am sure, once he finds the time, he'll be sticking up a few of them on here!

BAT 42 - Millichamp & Hall Harlequin
I thought I would continue on the Millichamp and Hall road as I had some pictures handy!
This one weighs in at 2'12/2'13 with a very light pick-up. It's not really a thugs bat....it is quoted as a bat for the classically elegant batter, so there goes my hope of using it! >:(
It has 9/10 lovely grains and one little surface crack these things can happen when knocking a bat in and is supposed to be the sign of excellent willow, so I will look forward to this) This is the 2nd Harlequin I have owned and is more my weight, as I like to wield a heavier stick. The edges are nothing special but the ball response reads impressively high on the ping-o-meter!! ;)
Not sure if it’s that well suited to my thuggish style of play – would be funny to toddle out to the middle with an elegant bat and try to hoike and slog the ball to all corners!
I think I stated in the post for the other Harlequin, this mode l won the best bat award in 2009 for AOC, and you can understand why.....the balance, pick-up and response feel perfect!
If this bat were a girl, she would be the kind of girl you would want to marry! Good looking, elegant, well dressed, subtle curves, well balanced, and does everything well! :D

Your a gentleman! Looking forward to having a hit with a few DF's. I used to have a Magnum back in the day and have very fond memories of it. Since then it's been a brand that hasn't really popped up on the radar but they always used to have a great rep.

Pete.. kavi is selling this but i wanted to confirm the weight as it's a bit heavier than what i usually wield around 2'9 - did you put it on your scales? can u remember if the pickup was uberlight?
thanks and regards,
-
I think it is more 2'11/12 and the pickup is very light!
The balance of these bats is great and it does feel lighter than it is!!
I personally rarely go by a specific weight, but instead see how the bat feels!! 8)
-
well that's the difficult part for me as i live, work and play in prague and am not near any of the handmade bat makers so never had the chance when i'm back for short stints in the uk.. i'm sure ur right though..
i know this is quality and am in negotiations so thanks for your response..

The cricket season has finished for another year.....all those kits bags put away until the new year! But as I don't play footy or rugby, I guess I'll just have to continue with this thread!!! Have made a start this morning sorting through a few bats and will just have to decide which will be bat number 43!!
Photo session scheduled for tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled chaps. ;)
-
Your missing a few though ;)
-
Hi - Pete - I think you owe the forum a few more bats on this thread!!
Please can I vote for your screaming cat from the batoff... pleeeeaaaassseeeeee
p.s. the stig informed me that if he ever sees that bat again he will be grabbing it and doing a runner :o :o :o ???
-
I wonder what Pete's average is (that is, how many runs he made last year per bat owned!) :D
-
It would be awesome to see some more bats on this topic Pete!
If your not busy that is... :)
-
I've heard it will be back up and running soon
-
^Exactly!
Pete is collecting and buying more bats for us so he can show us some of the stunning willows out there :D

BAT 43 - Kookaburra Rogue 650
I think it's time to dust off the camera and take some pictures and get this topic going again! Sorry but it's been ages and I have lots and lots of bats which need to be listed on here!
I will start with a new arrival! The (long blade) Kookaburra Rogue 650. This was one of the bargain buys from ActiveInstinct online sale. I ordered a medium weight and it tips the scales at 2'9 exactly. The profile is nice - edges are not big (although the 'big edge' stickers tell you different) as the tape measure never lies! But the spine is ample and the initial response with a mallet seems promising but it's early days!
The blade is only 1cm or so longer so I'm looking forward to seeing how it differs from a SH for a reasonally tall bloike like myself. The pickup feels very nice and it actually feels well balanced and comfortable! I particularly like the way the edges are rounded off and flow into the rear of the bat, and the overall smoothness of it 8)
The grains are very impressive indeed - around 11 and straight with no hint of heartwood to be seen. There is a small area of graping up by the front stickers but that's the only blemish on an otherwise very clean and sparkly blade. In fact, if the graping hadn't of been there, I suspect that this bat would have possibly ended up as a Rogue Players model, or close!! But non't take my word for it.....I shall let the pictures do the talking ;)

Wilkie's going to be gutted...
That looks a really nice bat - I really like the shape. Kookaburra are probably my favourite of the 'Big Five'.
I know it's bat porn, but how did that cheeky coarse black hair get on the bat Pete? :D
-
Wel spotted! Obviously nothing to do with porn otherwise it would be curly! :o
I have 2 dogs specially trained to guard my bat collection 24x7! And one have short black fur, so I imagine it would be a stray from her! :D
-
Well jell :(. Not of the grains but of the rogue!
Looks a good one mate, hope it goes some for you!
-
I've seen one or two of these in use locally and they do seem to go well.
-
Wilkie is pm'ing the hosk as we speak putting an offer in for it...
-
Red's it's a long blade, I'm a dwarf!
-
Just looked at Wilkie's pics as well and I reckon you guys have got a couple of bargains there if they perform as they seem to be promising. I reckon there will be one or two on here crossing their fingers that Wilk does find the middle a bit high and has to let it go. ;)
-
Typewriter it's up for sale in the correct section mate ;)
-
Wilk, I blame this wet summer - accumulating bats rather than runs! :D
-
I blame that too! Although acquiring so many bats last year as well, I can't blame the weather!
-
I just hope my 2 are nice when they arrive!
-
The shape doesn't look too dissimilar to the old CCX....
-
Pete are the back edges on the bat you got rounded? Is this a 2012 model sticker?
If yes, I suspect these are last years bats which have been re-stickered with 2012 ids and sold at lower prices.
I might be wrong though.
-
Pete,
Can we have some pics of your scat when you have chance please.
Thanks
-
dbow i wanna see pics of your distinction, come on dont be shy ;)

Hullo Pete - What's that blank with the oranje grip. Looks nice :)
It a TK made bat I believe. Weighs 2'12 and is same dimensions as an Uzi which means normal size but blade a tiny bit shorter and handle a tiny but longer.
Very nice bat!!

Surely a mass give away is needed

how many bargains are you putting up for sale, 100? 30 still seems a rather excessive number of bats!
-
Pete, Pete, Pete, what's the weight of the beast please :D!
The Beast Graphite is around 2'10-11 in weight
-
Pete if you have a GM Icon, or that sort of shape I'd be happy to take it off of your hands, eventually.
You are my bat collecting hero.
-
Is there any brand you don't have?
-
The Beast Graphite is around 2'10-11 in weight
Well if your wanting to sell it, I think we will be having a discussion soon :)

Pete is that Predator LE model? Whats the weight on it?

And so the batmakers weep, seeing as their finest work sits in a hoarder's closet, rather than being unleashed on the field :(
How about a mega sale? ;) ;)

"mega" is a small term.
We should seriously contact Guinness or someone by likes of them, I'm sure this is WORLD record.
-
Read somewhere that Raina owns about 300 bats . This collection is definitely a worthy material for Sky Cricket A.M or to be covered by a cricket magazine.
-
Gotta admit although it's a little sad, I get excited when I see Pete posts in here to see some more lovely willow haha!

I know that, I have read that. Raina is a professional player, he probably got most if not all for free while that's not the case with Pete nor he is international player.

Love looking at Pete's wood

Guys - they are the specials which I was saving for the finale!!
They will be shown in all their glory! That you can be sure of! Same as the other specials.
I am having a camera shoot at the weekend so will cover as many as I can.
still waiting for the finale :')
-
Show us some more ? :)
-
Ok - I must do this as I have so many to list in here!!
Apologies again. Some of the bats I have will be seriously worth the wait! ;)
-
Lets see some more mate, loving it :), whats the bat you've got with the BIGGEST edges ? :D
-
Biggest edges doesn't always make the best bat!!
-
Biggest edges doesn't always make the best bat!!
I was gonna say that. Definitely true. But he wants big edges, give him big edges! The crowd demand it!
-
(http://i551.photobucket.com/albums/ii471/petehosk/monkey_zps29c64f6d.jpg)
-
Yeah Hosky, I'm sure many people here would kill for you to show them the edges of your bats. 8) This post hasn't seen one in months!
-
lets see em :)
-
Give the man a break. You badgered him yesterday, leave it be for a few days. Not everyone can be on here all the time
-
This isn't a dig at anyone as we all have our opinion but I'm not sure I understand the current fascination with massive edges, not just with the players but also a lot of companies who are making bats with bigger and bigger edges
-

I think T20 has helped encourage the idea that more wood = more runs. People see batsmen using bats with big edges, but dont think about the talent these batsmen have. Most of them could hit sixes with a 2lb 7oz bat with 25mm edges just as easily.

Yeah good point, just the way trends are going I suppose
-
my bat is 28 mm ! I still hit sixes just like the look bud :)
-

It isn't even necessarily that there is more wood - its often just proportioned differently...
-
This is quite a community - edgehogs and grain merchants :D
-
haha :) but i love to see a bat with perfect grains :)
-

Yes good point, specifically more wood in the wrong places really. You're not supposed to hit sixes with the edge as far as im aware. Makes sense to have as much wood in the middle as possible, and back yourself to time the shot so that's the part of the bat you hit the ball with.

this is a debate that we've had on here so many times, and there are solid arguments in all directions.

So Pete, let's get this back to arty photos of your luxurious bat collection...!

there have been a lot of people that have been asking me to look at your collect and I just did. I am so impressed by far my favorite bat I could say all of them is this one. Just awesome.
-
pete how long did it take you to collect all these bats?
-
BAT 44 - SF Sapphire
Ok - time to get this going again....
Here is a large profiled SF bat direct from SF! Basically a friend of mine who knows the main guys at SF complained about the quality of SF bats we've seen in the UK being a little shabby! And therefore they sent this bat!
It has some interesting writing on the handle, but this may just be one of a batch meant for him, OR just a profile copy!
Either way not too bothered what it means, as the bat itself is knocking in very well ;)
She weighs 2'9.4 with a light aero grip on - so 2'10 with a standard ribbed thick grip. The profile is huge with 40mm+ edges and awesome middle.
We have started playing this in with bola machine and it is responding beautifully 8)
This is definitely the kind of bat which plays well on front foot, back foot and every shot in between!
But a picture says a thousand words....so will let them do the talking! :D

Had a hit with this a couple of times. Very impressed! It's genuinely huge for the weight and compares very well to other 'pro used' bats Pete has in his collection. Looks like Stanford do make some stunners after all!

The tape is on top of the string! I believe that some like the handle with added stiffness.
And yep Pedals - this does go well, and it's not played in yet....so the best is yet to come 8)
-
Pete, you could open a cricket shop mate :)
-
SF looks a very skinny handle Pete. Is it a thin handle?
-
A little skinny but not as bad as some I have used!
-
pete how long did it take you to collect all these bats?
Thanks - that Shadow is a stonking bat!
It has taken around 4 or 5 years I think to collect the majority of them.
-
Is it oK to ask where have you bought most of these bats from ?
-
I have got them from all different sources!
From friends and contacts in the industry, from some batmakers, and a few other sources.
I consider myself very fortunate to have some great friends in the industry....some of which are good friends with some players.
-
These look incredible. I wish i had that many. But it most be so hard to chose which ones to use!
-
I wish I just had one of them. hope to see more soon keep this thread going.
-
Come on Pete! Must've added some new blades to put up

-
And as its you, a GM Trott Players edition may be next ;)
how did you manage to get it back off the stig?
-
At over 2'11 it was too heavy for The Stig! He kept on picking it up and swinging it and then slowly shaking his head in anguish!
If it had been 2'9 I reckon I would have struggled to get it back!!!
-
Pete any chance of showing us some more bats from your collection, obviously only if your not too busy?
Would be keen to see your B3 1271
-
I didn't even know this thread existed. Fair play a fantastic collection!
-
would you recommend any cheap bats pete around 2.6"-2.7" only 15 like a light short handle
-
The season has ended and the score book and kit bags are stored away until next year!!
So I figure it must be time for me to continue this topic!
I will post a few teaser photos first!!! ;)

A Flare :O
I knew you wouldn't miss a GM bat! ;)
-
Didn't like the Flare until I used one
-
Which one got you the most runs?
Not all bats have been used - too many to play with!
This season I used a very special Salix pod players which bagged me a few runs!
But there are other bats that I'm sure will go equally well!
-
That Puma :O
That puma (the one in the lid of the trunk) is a very, very special bat!
All will become clear when I take photos of it.
-
Be prepared pete for some offers it like Christmas
Good to see the GH chase
-
That Icon/Purist too!
You remembered that the icon stickers bat was a purist that GM reburbed. ;)

Mate - that gh chase is staying in my collection 😉
I don't blame you at all the price that was sourced for not many better bargains than that

Of course haha ;)
An Original if I'm not mistaken
It was indeed an Original! You have a fantastic recall for all things GM! ;)
-
I don't blame you at all the price that was sourced for not many better bargains than that
Bargain of the decade!
But whatever It cost me, it would still stay in my collection mate :)

Good mate agree money can't replace some special bats
-
Now I have to decide which bat to photograph and post today!!
-
Now I have to decide which bat to photograph and post today!!
start with the puma and you can post it to me tomorrow :D
-
I had one of those pumas! Been trying to find another one like it for ages. I forgot what model it was but bloody loved it. Presuming yours is the one with the hole drilled out and plugged looking at the pic.
-
I may do! (Start with the puma...not post it to you!)
Anyway, the front has been signed by the player who's kitbag it came from!!
-
Your SS/TON bats and your 'pro bats'.... Please.
-
Doubt people have had a puma like that as its a fair bit different to standard puma bats
The ajk you have is one of the best bats I've picked up mate so that deserves a pic or two easily one of the biggest bats for weight I've seen
-
Your SS/TON bats and your 'pro bats'.... Please.
The puma is a pro bat. But I will keep the SS bats near the top so I can take some snaps ;)
-
Did you get the 'special' Redback back off the Duke of Luke, or has he kept hold of that?
-
You are living the dream
-
Did you get the 'special' Redback back off the Duke of Luke, or has he kept hold of that?
Luke still has hold of that rocket! I can't see him ever parting with that bat.
If he did, obviously the original owner would always get first refusal.
But I'm happy if he uses it until it dies, as it deserves an active life!!
-
YOU MAKE ME SICK MATE :D

YOU MAKE ME SICK MATE :D

BAT 45 - BB Amplus
I'm a bit rusty with the camera and actually used the old iphone4 so apologies in advance for the quality (especially to Simmy with his level of quality) but need to get going on this topic again!
This is a gorgeous Blank bats Amplus profile weighing in at a rather butch 2'14! The pickup on this superb bat is very good as the Amplus profile has a higher sweet spot.
This is a perfect bat for the big edge lovers on the forum, so enjoy them.
Performance wise, I have not actually used this in the nets, and am therefore not in a position to confirm the ping-o-meter reading! Bur first impressions from tapping up are great.
And BB are pressed by one of the best in the business.
Enjoy the pictures fellas........

Happy days, this thread is back! Thank you.
-
I was trying to sort through some bats and realised that have too many amazing sticks of willow, and I simply have to share them with like minded bat lovers!
-
So glad this thread is back again, King Pete keep them coming, let us see those masterclasses.
-
Made my monday that this thread is back, looks like a bit of a beast! Amplus shape already looks massive, but that looks ridiculous.
-
welcome back Pete.
Here is my mental image of a number of the new members of the forum who haven't seen this thread before...

Can you please sticky this thread so we don't forget about it! My parents think that one is enough, let alone 100!
-
Got up to p19. The chase bat looked the best.

Don't worry - every week there will be another bat with more pictures so don't worry ;)

my collection so far
left to right, old to new, spyder legend 2lb5oz, aldred velocity 2lb7.5oz, red ink 2lb5oz, millichamp and hall original high 2lb5oz, and millichamp and hall harlequin 2lb 6oz
problem i have is manifold - 1. spyder needs to retire soon as nasty split at toe, 2. have loved my spyder so much that struggled to find a bat with same weight and feel with which to replace it, 3. love each new bat in slightly different ways but not least because of their blemishless relative newness and so justifying a subsequent new purchase to prevent the need to defile them, (only used the aldred once in nets, the red ink twice) 4. don't feel good enough to tarnish my new bats yet with match cherries, that is to say i wouldn't mind red marks if they meant i'd scored a fifty but to tarnish them for a single digit score would be very upsetting…
still i like my collection and ultimately they are going to get used one way or the other very soon - just a matter of order - i think i'll save aldred till last or if we travel to any lower bouncing wickets
my last two are the same shape exactly the difference being only one ounce and more grains/ better grade in the harlequin compared with the original high
-
I think you should start a separate thread, this one belongs to King Hosk and his mistresses exclusively ;).

Great to see this post coming up again, and some bat makers in there we don't here much of any more, I think I saw a Redback in there somewhere along with a chase and a choice cricket bat along with a saf bat. Would maybe be nice if you ever get chance to post some pics of these small bat makers bats on either this or another post Pete as I bet there are a lot of new forum members who have never heard of the likes of Redback Saf Bats etc. Other than that fella keep up the good work and what is your latest bat purchase??
-
I've just spent 2 nights reading through all the posts in this thread and boy what a pleasure seeing such beautiful willow. Pete you don't fancy selling the DF 5*
I do love the new DF stickers and shape
-
Hi all - I keep trying to resurrect this topic as I still have 50 or 60 bats to photograph and post details of.
Apologies for being a lazy git and determined to get some stunning willow out by this evening.
-
come on Pete, Get on with it.
-
Currently stuck somewhere with only limited cricket. I would love to see more - go on, please
-
Let's start 2016 with a bang, bring on the bat porn!
-
I will - just need to dust the camera off and start taking some nice pics!!
-
Problem is Pete gave his best bat to Ben Stokes last week so he's currently one short.

How much dust is on that camera? You've been dusting it off for years.

I dust my camera vigorously at least twice a week!
I have asked my wife to dust it from time to time but she is less enthusiastic about it! ;)

Use a Nikon D3100 which is not too bad. Low priced but they are ok.
Would prefer a high quality Nikon or similar but have had this a couple of years now and its ok.

Any chance of an update and more bats on this Pete?
-
More chance of the Pope denouncing Catholicism
More chance of the Cricket Stig making a comeback
More chance of me and Brucie having a net at the barn.
-
All 4 of which are possible - now that I have the taste for posting things in H4L visit!
So I will see what I can do
-
After the ashorne 7aside hearing about the collection I want to see more of it!! Also your warbird might be a nice way to start it off :p

BAT 46 - Laver & Wood (Ayrtek Sticker)
This is a Laver & Wood (actual model unknown/forgotten) with around 10 nice grains.
There is a lot to like about this bat although on initial check of dimentions, it looks pretty "average".
The shoulders are 20mm so kind of thick without being "beefy". The edges are a very normal 35/36mm so far rom outragious!
The toe is around 23mm at it's most narrow, so on the surface seems like a decent average bat.
But it's when some of the detail is taken into condsideration that it starts getting very interesting :-)
The spine intrudes on the toe, making it slightly thicker in the middle - where you'll also find a toe insert to enforce the toe.
At 2'9.5 it's a good weight but picks up very nicely indeed! The response (or pingability) is decent with a nice longish middle.
But the absolute best thing about this bat (for me at least) is the feel of it, mainly due to the handle. It is perfection.
If I could have this same handle on all bats, I absolutely would. The top hand is nicely round and neither too thick nor too thin!
But the bottom hand is semi-over-oval and feels stunning. It is perhaps the best handle I have ever felt on any bat.
If this bat were a woman, it would be Lily James....on first impression it seems like a very nice bat, but not overly curvy or stunning (compared to the best bats ever)
But the more you look at the details, you realise the better it looks and it's even more stunning than you initially realised!
Photos to follow....

BAT 47 - GN Kronus (Pro Bat)
This is a Gray Nicolls Kronus with around 7 grains.
It is a small mens sie, therefore 1cm shorter than a SH sized bat.
It's a huge chunk of willow and was made for a certain little left-handed Aussie fella who opens the batting.
I can neither confirm nor deny that he has been know to punch other players and likes to tamper with his balls!
Anyway, back to the willow!
The bat weighs in at 2'10.2 which is not bad when you consider the rather large 45mm edges!
Picks up nicely and pings very well indeed, as one would expect.
I am considering getting a Long Handle on it, as it is a little too short for a 6'3 oaf like myself.
If it were a human, it would be Mark Wahlberg. Beefy and powerful but a little on the shorter side!
