Just discussing a bat with a guy on ebay and he is trying to flog me a "Torpedo" bat which, apparently is an independent bat maker in rotherham
Has anyone heard of them?
Apparently "they provide bats locally and alot for the barnsley cc team which is full of ex pros, (simon widdup, richard wilkinson to name a couple)"
I haven't heard of either of the "pros"
-
could be escorts? :)
in all seriousness, I haven't heard of them...
-
Yes I have heard of them.
They were used by quite a few players in our league about 5-6 years ago.
A team mate had one. Seemed quite shapeless, bottom heavy. Reminded me of an old SS I had. They had an Asian style profile, with plenty of concaving.
-
loads in are league. as one of lads in are league sells them for the guy in rotheram.
some of are leageus best players user them tho and love them!
-
this one doesn't look too bad...

the question is - are they Indian or Pakistani made? (or uk made?)
-
aparently there are english made.
guy called bar bar makes them in his shed lol
PWB knows more about them than me
-
Theyre based in Bradford I think and are quite big in Yorkshire.
Richard Wilkinson is a former Yorkshire off spinner and coach of the youth u17 side in Yorkshire. He used to be my coach until I think he was sacked.
-
Looks imported to me, have seen one a few years ago and definitely imported.
-
Bas vampire part mades I beleave
-
Pakistani made.
-
pretty sure they come from his garage tho lol
so maybe he gets part mades like mat said and then shapes them
-
yeah i think ur right simmy. think bar bar just finishes them off.
not keen myself, moose has one and the strings gone already...
-
I saw a couple of these bats when playing against Yorkshire Academy at Streethouse a few yearts ago. One of the older teens that was play had a gun. It look a really nice bat. Very similar to the Fusion bats being produce at the same time.
-
I know the guy very well, his bats are either made by BAS or MB. some are made in UK as well
Regards
Asad

Asian made, imported and finished in bar bars garrrage. cheap handles but they do go like stink!! Don't last very long though.

who do u play for mate are you local to us then ?
-
They've been about ages - virtually all of the Barnsley lads had them 12 years ago when I was playing Yorkshire League.
Simon Widdup is a bit of a Yorkshire league legend, but I don't think he ever played first class - might have been a club Pro at some point, and he may well have been on Yorkshire's books at some point.
One of the guys at Morecambe has a connection with Torpedo too, as all of their guys used them for a while.
Whenever I've seen them used it's been by top club level cricketers - they've always looked like they went well, though they do look a bit like they might have been bought from a Petrol Station

No I play down in Kent. I play for a service national team that tours the country and play against other services, county academies and development teams.
-
ah no worries we are the club next to streehouse thats all
Prowannabe used to play there and is back with them this year

-
Sorry pidge ;)
Told my old club I have officially left now, although apparently there was an altercation at nets on Sunday with one of the first teamers and a lad I know, put it this way, glad I wasn't there. Well rid :)
-
its ok will we have kissed and made up since then lol
-
So you have left reman? Was it
Who you moved to
-
Joining Grove CC mate, will be playing your 2s I think this year! It's a couple of divisions lower but much happier where I am now, plus some shizzle went down at nets with one of the younger players and a first teamer. If I had been there and saw it, I probably would have lost the plot with him. Would have walked as well after hearing what happened.
Simmy - I am not happy with you anyway mate, thanks to you I am now buying a new handbag for the missus!

What went down mate?
-
I will try and get back when you play the twos so can see you in action then
Better off moving if not happy as I did when I moved out of prem too many people who think they are good and are not

One of the 'quicks' in the 1s is always giving it out, verbals, short stuff, banter (and this is just nets) and was batting on Sunday. Mate of mine, only a kid at 18, was asked to bowl at him by the captain. He's a bit nippy, no attitude, just a kid who loves his cricket. Anyway, sent a few short ones down at him, nothing savage, and the bloke walks up to him in front of everyone and says "bowl at me like that again and I'll knock you out"
Was the nail in the coffin for me. Outrageous behaviour from someone who A:should know better and B:can give it out all day long to anyone yet when someone younger (and better) than him gives him a bit back, he goes off like that.
No time for that at all, so said you can all swing

That is outrageous, we have a bloke like that who gets stroppy when the 1st team bowler bowls short and that, he come out of the net and hit a cone and someone shouted thats the best shiot you've hit all night and he threatened to kill him
-
Yes mad he played there when I did as a nipper. Infact if you play services I've probably played against you when I was a little un at streethouse
-
People like that only start on the kids and when they have their clique backing them up, no time for it at all. I know I have made a good shout doing it, and the lads I am with now have taken me in and they all respect eachother and have a laugh. Can't wait to get cracking for the season now.
And Roco mate - would be good if you could make it over...could even drop down for a game ;)
-
If I dropped down would get told off again as did fir one game last season as was going out and needed to play at home knocked 131 not out and did not here the end of it but we are away at lillieshall that day and is the worst pitch in the league something like 14/20 1st xi innings there were around 100 all out as us a shocking and dangerous pitch that the league refuse to do anything about so should be back early
-

I might have only played there the once three seasons ago...... work sometimes put a stop to a tour or two. Would you have played then?

I left 3 seasons ago so doubt I was there
-
No worries..........lovely ground though and tea ladies couldn't do enough for you.
-
Lovely place to play bit low but if you bend your back you get something out of it plus if your playing against the twos it's the best teas around a few of us first teamers have threatened to drop down due to the teas
I will get back to the pub at least

That's alright then mate, can have a beer and a chat after the game then. You won't miss me, I'll be the one on his 3rd Guiness and looking like a Beatle outcast ;)
