Lol, I think he had a few problems with his visa i.e. it ran out. Although I think by the end he had played so long that he wasn't even classed as overseas. Helluva player, even at the age of whatever he was lol. Don't think they have an overseas this year and I think they are struggling without one. Especially after losing one of their gun openers  8), and seeing as the Aussie took 55 wickets and scored 500 runs last year. Who do you play for Mr Instinct Cricket?

They looked quite weak to be honest. We can't talk though, our top 4 got ourselves out last night! Their slow opener (Matravers?) got rid of the top 3... at one stage we thought 110 would be a good score. The only batsman for them who got runs used to play for us, and it was only his 2nd game of the season

They were batting first and all out in 40 overs for 113. But they never even played a shot!
Sevenfold, got a game against your old lot coming up....any tips?

Having same problem! Cant get out of first team and batting 6, rather bat 3 or 4 in the 2s

I don't know what I want. I know that I want to be the best batsman at the club, and feel I can't be if I play in the 2's. With a full strength first team I'll bat 5, my seconds skipper begs to have me playing for him every week to open.

Without sounding arrogant. Our twos have been skittled every week and the one game I played we won... Our one's aren't struggling for runs.

Ive been at both sides of this issue mate, and while its not easy being the player in question you need to try and see the wider picture...im only learning that now.
For a few years as a late teen I was opening the bowling in the 2s, but when called into the ones sometimes I wouldnt get a bowl, or would be last option, usually in a lost cause. This really naused me off because I knew I could help win games in the 2s.

But now Im the 1s skipper, and finding that there are some weeks when this situation crops up and is unavoidable.
If someone drops out of the 1s, who do you call up?
If you call up the 2s star player, yes the 2s will miss him, and he will probably not play the same integral role in the 1s.
But whats the other option if you need someone? Do you pull up a 2s also-ran that they wont miss, but then they spend their Saturday chasing leather in a team where they're out of their depth. Thats hardly ideal because they will quickly lose interest.

You may not think it, but your captain wont be doing things deliberately to annoy you, its a thankless task trying to balance everything and keep people happy! Your best bet if you want to be the best batsman in your club is the play where you are asked and just do your best. Because your chance will come sooner or later, and the more you play in the ones, the sooner that chance to have a big impact will come.

Thanks mate, I do see your points. Most of them I can relate to. There are a few people in our 1s that are middle order batsmen who won't be dropped not matter what their form so it is me who misses out. I don't feel out of my depth in the 1s as I've already got some runs there this year. In the past I have also won games for our 1s. I guess I don't want to be the star player in the 2s, but the star player in the 1s which may take another couple of years.

In all honesty, there are no batsmen who could go up from the 2s like I do, but there are players in the 1s who would be classed as second team players. Two of which spring to mind are averaging 19 and 13 in the league whereas I'm averaging 27.

I think it has a lot to do with the captain in all honesty, I like the guy a lot but he seems to be the only person in the club who doesn't rate me as a 1s player. I often get asked by our players and spectators (we have a few) why I'm not playing ones to which I reply "I'm clearly not doing well enough" which I don't think is disrespectful, or the truth.

See how it goes I guess.

nono, i didnt mean you being the one that would be out of his depth - I mean the captain would be choosing between someone like you (who would be the 2s best player and would be fine in the 1s) OR some other guy, who would be out of his depth.

Definately annoying if you think the 1s is a closed shop. If you dont think your current captain is right its only a matter of time that he's replaced, and it will be good if the new captain, whoever that may be, can see that you're a team player who'll play where you're needed. How you react to this current situation will say a lot about you.

NB....If there were guys in my team averaging 20 they'd probably get player of the year at this stage!
