Depends mate, if a different roller is used to create the less curve on the face then you can start with a high weight cleft. With extreme concaving you can reduce the middle to just spine and the edge as that is where the wood mass is.

In general I would say it would be down to the pressing of the bat more then the shape though, as it could be hard pressed and needs loosening or soft pressed and needs hardening.  You could probably tell either way by how it felt on the hand when playing shots

Which ties into what Alex mentioned to me when discussing how a Scoop should work, if done properly. Starting to get the impression that shape of the back has little impact on the overall bounce of the bat, more the way in which it is wielded, while pressing is all about the bounce!

Having tried a few concaved bats I think for it to work. You tend to need to be in good nick to find the middle. Secondly and this was key it needs to be in good willow. I tried a cheaper bat with concave and it was a plank with a minute middle, a quality bat with concave is a different beast.

I have a GN Nitro 2.7 with no concaving at all ... and around that weight another bat with massive concaving, i did an experiment in Practice with old red cherry.... requested the bowler to bowl some full pitch delieveries.

RESULTS: The bat with no concaving was responding to cover drives very very nice with gentle push however the bat with massive concaving was giving a very weired feeling with gentle push  ??? like i have a plank cleft in my hand eh

Keep in mind same bowler same speed same ball.  8)

Generally prefer traditionally shaped bats, the couple of bats I've had with concaving I haven't really got on with.

it takes wood away from the main impact area which IMO isn't a good thing

I like no concaving, but I think a gentle concave is the way to go. (if any!) The most concave I would have in a bat is around this level of concaving:

Which isn't much at all!

I'd prefer the slightest amount or none at all.

Both my match bats, Aldred Supreme and Tempo have only minimal concaving.

I've seen some pictures here where the spine is as wide as I am talented.

I reckon that heavy concaving is cosmetic and tricks the eye into thinking you've got a lot of wood where in reality it's an empty box.

Yeah, too much concaving can significantly decrease the performance in a bat IMO. I also have noticed that out of all my bats, although my Newbery Tour has the smallest spine, when tapping up a ball, there is barely any twist when I hit it near the edge, while when I tap up a ball on my brother's Richochet, there is quite a noticeable amount of twisting. IMO, the concave should never go below the edge, if you get what I mean!

I wonder if this is the case in a Dynadrive though... Anyone with one have any thoughts on it? Personally, I would think that the scoops in the Dynadrive work just like concaving, except it has the same benefits of a wider middle. Can't be 100% certain on this though, as I have only seen a really old Dynadrive! :-[

I am really interested to know what everyone's opinion about non - concave to minimal concave bats with big edges (Tendulkar profile ?). Obviously the spine height is compromised for biggish edges at lower weight .

After using my e41 this season I am now not a massive fan on concaving, you really had to hit the middle if you wanted to get runs.
