Netted the last few days at our ground. Very worried we won't play on a grass wicket at home for a couple of months. Really disheartening.

Had my first game of the season today..time game ended up 39 overs for them having been inserted and 26 for us...cause of the rain (typical).

Fielded well, though had a couple cracked at me by a guy with a 3.5 Newb Mjolnir - safe to say it went well...

Chasing 184 to win I came in at 4 with us about 20-2. Chipped in with 20 off 14 balls with 2 fours and a flat six over mid-on.

Nicked off in the end but got undone by the pitch more than the bowler as I got a short wide one that took off as I was trying to cut :(

Happy to have played this early in the season though!! :D

Sounds good mate, trust you to be inquisitive about the opposition's bats ;)

If the weather holds our first game has been shifted to our 3's/4's ground with an artificial and tiny boundaries. No-one do a rain dance!!!

Haha, only reason I knew was because I'd kept wicket when he scored a hundred against us last year...especially annoying as he nicked off to me when on 40... :/

You mean someone actually used a bat for more than one season? I've never heard of this concept!  ;)

I have had the same match bat for 3 years now. But my spare has changed a few times ;)

so my meteoric (cough) rise continues...

you might remember i posted about being thrust from 3rd team obscurity to keep and open for the 2nds last season. as luck would have it the 1st team keeper has broken a collarbone so i kept for the 1sts last weekend and am set to do the same again tomorrow.

i'm really pleased at how my keeping has come on - i'm standing up to every bowler except our 80mph opener and feeling pretty good, although the occasional over pitched ball still cannons back off my pads!

i opened the batting on saturday against a South Wales Premier team and felt ok for the 3 overs i was there, before a ball i was trying to push into the covers seamed back to hit the outside of leg! bit of a green track. still, hope i get another chance.

to all you young cricketers out there who are playing 2nd, 3rd or 4th team cricket this just shows what hard work and dedication can do for you. i'm not a particularly talented cricketer but i work hard and concentrate and this has helped me no end! 6 years ago i scored my maiden 50 for the club's 5th XI and now i'm on the edge of trying to nail down a 1st team spot!

my ambition is to score a 50 for all of the club's senior teams..only the firsts left to get!

Well done mate, great effort that and a good example to people who maybe take up the sport later than others. Good luck for the season

cheers Phil, don't think I'll be required to open for the 1sts this season as that would be too much to ask! we have an excellent top order so i'm expecting to bat 7-10. still, it's good experience; if i go back to the 2s when the normal wk comes back at least i'll be better than i was before!

1st game of the season today against a Westlands team missing their best player. batted first on a green top, hit 160-5, then bowled them out for 80 odd. Didn't get a bat unfortunately as the skipper wanted to look at some of the newer faces at the club and work on some batting plans, although he did ask me to bowl a few overs, which I kindly declined as it would have turned an OK performance into a bad one, and with me bowling, it could have been a lot closer to 160 than it looked lol.

Scored 47 not out opening the batting today in a friendly. Chased down 113 to win.

Got 3-39 off 9 overs today but it wasn't enough as the other team chased down 160 with 3 balls left. The pitch wasn't great for batting but was ideal for legspin and had I been able to cut down on wide's we could've just about won the match but as it was my second match of the season I'm not too bothered. The ball was turning around 1-2 feet so I had lots of plays and misses and got 2 stumping's. Can't wait till it gets warmer as it was freezing today.
