One of the league games on Saturday:

Lewes - Thats my old club from about 10 years ago when i was at Uni - what happened to them how comes they are now so low down the divisions. They used to be a good Div 1 club. John Moore was in the 2s as a wiley old bowler back then, 10 years on and hes now in the 1st XI???

because the relied heavily on a gun overseas for years and the rest of the team never got a game and just left. Unfortunately they shouldn't have been allowed in the league this year as they gift 30 points each week and their twos are even worse. Shame, they used to be a popular club.

Played 15 years ago against them (for Ifield) and they were poor, albeit in Sunday cricket. Sad to see any club struggle like this.

Martham have been flying up the leagues for a few years. Surprised they are still climbing! What league is that?

That is division 1 of the Norfolk cricket league where they have won all of their 12 completed games this year! Yeah last year was the first time in many years that they haven't achieved promotion, and the only reason that happened was because of a massive points deduction after a 14 man brawl during a match.. Think it's going to take them several more years to finally find their standard..

Blimey, will be in the alliance next season! Remember playing them in one of my first men's game at division 5 or 6 probably. Must have a committed and talented team.

In our game against them this year, some of the batters looked like they had never held a bat.  They truly were woeful apart from their current overseas.  It's always a shame to see a club deteriate as they have over the last few years.

When i was there Kyron Lynch was their overseas player. Michael Murray was the skipper, i belive he used his contacts (his dad is Deryck Murray) to get gun West Indians. Is he still about?
They had a few decent home grown players i thought. Used to pick up a couple of the Uni lads too. I know they spent a few years playing at Falmer because the STG outfield wasnt up to scratch. Really sad to hear they arnt doing too good.

Unfortunately Murray left for another local team and took with him his West Indian contacts which gutted the club. Combine that with the ground sinking and general neglect of the pav and it became an unattractive place to play. They were a top top team and one a Sussex Prem title in the 90s. The following year they had Bevan as their assigned Sussex player!

When the subject of getting an overseas comes up at our club I always use them of an example of the worst that can happen if you get someone "too good". Obviously it's not as simple as that but I do feel they spent too much money on getting one player each year rather than looking after the rest of the team.

Well it was described to me as a 14 man brawl however it was all 11 of Martham's first team and one of their 2nd teamers (who was watching as their game was off) fighting against one of their opposition and his dad(who again was just there to watch) with various weapons being used including glass bottles and stumps! And the cause of it all was a no ball call!

Bloody hell! We have one guy in my team who bowls loads of no balls. He's a big 6ft7 bouncer and refuses to accept he ever bowls a no ball, the toys seriously come out of the pram whenever he gets called it. I make a point of moving myself to mid on/off to keep an eye on him and try calm him down when it happens to avoid such a scenario!

The guy that got 187 was 3 runs off the league record. And also dropped 1st ball.

Our Sunday league team the other week, not a great deal of running (300*+ partnership for the second wicket)!
