Me batting in the nets video
« on: January 03, 2013, 10:08:58 PM »

Any constructive criticism?
(It has been pointed out to me that I'm walking well out of the crease every shot)

I've got absolutely no coaching qualifications or experience so might be talking rubbish but it looks to me like you're being dragged square on too much. Your back foot ends up coming round which leads me to think you're not balanced when playing your shot. I think Buzz mentions being as static as possible when playing the shot and I reckon this would help you.

For me, you need to loosen up that bottom hand. This will help you play through the 'V', your bat is coming through strait, but the balls you are defending are going to the leg side when really, they (ideally) should be going back towards the bowler.

Then I'd work on the feet and keeping your balance, you, like myself are playing on the move when you play the ball.
My coach puts down 3 balls in a triangle and has me hit each one, I do this maybe 8 times on each ball.
Then he will do some drop feeds for me, keeping my back foot rooted to the floor, if it comes off the floor, I got running!  :(

Your more bothered about how you look style wise than playing the bloody ball hense poor balance.

Square back leg collapse I would have thought you struggle hitting rough cover.

Keep it simple less movement

I see you keep the diamond figure 9 arm position but your bottom half is doing it own thing leading to a twist.

If mixed bowling actions where batting you understand my point.??

it also could be your bat twisting in your hands or you bat doesnt come through with a straight face when playing some shots, for example when you mean to play a shot offside and it goes leg side mate :)

It because his front foot ponies to mid on at all times

Slow the film down mate look at a initial movement it your right hip turning.

There a very good player trying to get out I think

Not still enough at point of release, and you have a horrible trigger movement with your back foot moving to the leg side and throwing your balance out, which means that your head goes outside the line of the ball and your front foot points to mid on to compensate. When the ball is inswinging, its bowling you because you're in absolutely no position to play the ball. The good shots are the ones where you get well forward, and head stays low with hands thrown through the ball!

Most important bit of coaching from me would be to stay still as long as possible, before dipping your head and leading with your shoulder to get a huge stride forward and throw your hands through the ball. THis should, make your foot go in the right place, and play the ball under your eyes.

Finally, get the feeder to slow the feeding down. Give yourself time to settle and rest a bit over the front foot.

I also fully agree with Dave that there is something about it, definitely some talent in there. Not seen many people look that good while at the same time not ;)

I've been telling this chap for a year and a half to stop walking into the shot.
 >:(

I genuinely believe his biggest problem is that his idol is KP, therefore he tries to bat like him. Which is fine if you have KP's natural talent and eye. However you can get in all sorts of trouble if you haven't.

Keep it simple DK!! And what Nickauger has said sounds extremely familiar!!

Not greatest comparison pics wise, your head is falling in majority of your straight drives and whilst in that shot the head basically controls balance, so work on keeping your head up, which should also help you watch the ball right onto the bat! hope this helps!!!!

My tip for you is go to drop feeds.

Draw 3 foot arks in front of you one one side one lef one central.

Get a mate to drop and just step and hit through the ball but you have to keep you front foot in the foot.

That where I would start

Honestly Dave, I would go even further back than that, and just hit from a cone!
