End of Season Review
« on: September 04, 2013, 08:50:22 PM »

Following on from my Mid-Season review topic, how has the season gone for you? Did you meet you targets as a player? what did you average in the end? What was your best piece of kit? Anything surprise you?

Weve still got 2 games left.. need to win one to get promoted. But personal point of view first half was shocking until i started opening 5 innings ago.. now hit 228 in 5 innings (include a 0 and a 2 ) hopefully end the season with some more runs.. Woodstock bat was the best piece of kit or new ayrtek..

season not over yet atleast to but hopefully three games left.

as a team. not consistent enough.
3rd in league can finish second. but 2loses to 2 of bottom 3 clubs really lost us the league
still cup left though. finalsday a week on sat! which we believe we can win.

personally. not a great season. 610 runs at an average of 21 is poor as averaged 30fir previous 3years. no century this year either.
with the ball. 14wickets at an avg of 9 means i should have had a good season. but a bad knee due to fitness means i haven't bowled since June.

2 outings for the representative side boosted me though.

With 3 games left for me currently on 43 wickets and 329 runs so I'm pretty pleased, would've liked to convert the 20s,30s and 40s into bigger scores though, on well. Not a bad season, would like to try and get up to 400 runs and 50 wickets.

Had a shocker with the bat only 300 odd runs at a dire average! 35 wickets at 13s though not to bad with my medium pacers / cutters, last game for me on Saturday as the Mrs is dragging me off on holiday so miss the last league game. Despite missing no games with rain (only 3 rain effected shortened games which must be some sort of record) the end of season has come around really (too) quickly  :(

3 games left and recently passed over 1200 runs, not counted dismissals from behind the stumps but been pretty good for a first year at keeping

after a terrible last season, scoring 120 runs in 16 innings with a high score of 60 not out and 5 ducks i set myself the target of winning the batsmen of the year award in 2013, i have finished top run scorer with 420 runs and should win it.

i also wanted to have a shot at making my first century, i got into the 70's for the first time twice and should really have converted on the 2nd occasion but now I know i can do it before i wasnt sure if i could

wanted 20 wickets on a saturday and managed to take 19 wickets although my bowling hasnt been great and i've gone around the park on occasion

i also took my first ever hat trick in a friendly midweek t20 game with figures of 7 wickets for 12 runs and took another hat trick a few weeks later in a mid week game that was played against mainly non cricketers

so all in all really pleased but at the same time miffed i'm still chasing my maiden ton

Season over, we managed to avoid relegation and stay in the West of England Premier 2 league. Hit 440 league runs which made me highest run scorer in our team, and took all catches. Room for improvement but not too bad for out first year at this standard.

Haven't had the season I would have liked for a few reasons but can take the positive of scoring my first ever hundred this year.

Honest assessment of my season, injury has ruined what was going to be a good year.
I played 11 league games as a bowler, only taking 11 wickets but had a season economy of 3.5

Batting wise I've had limited opportunities in league cricket, but did manage my first 50 in a Sunday game which prove I could bat if nothing else. 6 games at the end of the season due to a shattered finger and a shoulder injury, hopefully I can stay fit for all of next season and improve on this years display.

Better stick mine up I suppose:-

Batting - League 391 runs @ 30.1 and Bowling 20 wickets @ 18.2

Start of the season I would of hoped for a few more wickets and expected less runs. To be fair I beat the outside edge plenty of times, just never getting the nick. Economy rate of 3.2 and Strike rate of 34.2 meant I was doing a decent mid innings job. Batting was a bonus though I only got to 50 twice. Got in plenty of times but didn't punish the bowlers for the length of time I was in, probably spent more time at the crease than most guys in our league. Strike rate probably wasn't great and my average would of been over 50 if you discount the number of times I was out slogging in the last couple of overs. Key thing is I beat Redders lol

Batting - Overall 703 runs @ 30.57 and Bowling 34 wickets @ 19.85

Still got a few games to go but unsurprisingly similar to my league returns. Sunday cricket is easier but perversely I didn't get as many opportunities. Ironically on 3 of the worst decks of the season did I get decent time at the crease and scored runs. Similar story with the ball, didn't bowl to rubbish players just to overseas or decent batsman. One game I was instructed to bowl badly to a 10 year old in order to give him a game. Fine with that but 30 minutes later and after giving him countless singles, it just seemed stupid. On the whole Sunday cricket tends to frustrate me more and more as I get older lol

Kit - went with my Ayrtek for two thirds of the season but changed in the last month to my GM Icon+. Made a huge difference, the GM seems to have a larger more powerful middle and the 2.5oz difference in weight is offset by the great pickup on the Icon. The Ayrtek/TK is a good bat and will get better, I hit a six off the leading edge with it, but the Icon seems in a different league. Marlow's overseas binned his sponsored GN bats in favour of it in a Presidents match and scored 90 odd with it!. It's a bit battered but a definitely the number 1 bat.

Took 28 wickets this season, 10 more than anybody else at the club. Also took 10 catches which puts me in 2nd out of the whole club(beating both 1st and 2nd team wicket keepers) which isn't bad considering I would spend a lot of time fielding at fine leg(due to bowling). Batting wasn't brilliant but our top order usually did the job and I think we're all pleased with a solid mid table position.

Had a good year in my 1st official year as elected 1st team captain (having inherited it towards the end of last year whilst on honeymoon!)

We set our stall out early with winter nets that as a squad we wanted to push for promotion and i asked our level 2.5 coach to take on a winter nets programme to change our approach from what we have done for the last 5+ years. Feedback was positive and everyone at the club said how enjoyable they were. Going into the season we had picked up a couple of good players which helped to strengthen the squad.

I wont drag it out too much but we only lost 2 games out of the 15 we completed that were entirely down to us performing badly with the bat. We secured promotion to the WEPL with 2 games to spare which is the 1st time in the clubs 135 year history we have ever achieved it. Fantastic to do this as a club and as a 1st XI it spurred the 2nd XI onto winning their league in the last game of the season as well.

As captain its never an easy task to handle field positions/bowling changes and mental arithmetic of how many overs what bowler has left at what end to add upto 45! Im not an opening batsmen and my bowling days are behind me so i tend to float anywhere between 4-8 depending on whats required.

Wrapped up the Saturday season with 388 runs at an average of 48.5 according to play cricket and a total of 776 @ 45.65 overall in all games. Sundays have been a challenge as a lot of time and energy goes into Saturdays games and with work its cricket 24/7 anyway!!

Onto next Season and a new challenge, not before what could prove to be a rather busy winter on the work front and hopefully some time to try out my new golf clubs at some stage.
