Not harsh one started playing games earlier and nearly had 2 years out with injurys the other has been handed it on a plate..
Do you have shares in Pujara  :)
Also, I'm not sure any sportsman who has made it to the very top of their sport can ever be accused of being handed anything on a plate.

Joey Chestnut did, he's World Hot Dog Eating Champion. He had hot dogs handed to him on a plate

Pujara made his first class debut 8 years ago, Root 3 years ago.  One has batted 48 times more than the other in a first-class setting.  One is more experienced than the other.  Regardless of talent, I know who I would expect to be a better player right now.  There does seem to be a propensity to expect wondrous things from players as soon as they pull on an England jersey with age, experience and other factors all disregarded.  The first sign of wavering form or a run of low scores and everyone's on their backs.  Just give them a chance and try not to write players off so soon.  There are plenty of good test cricketers whose careers didn't start like Tendulkar or Ponting.

My point to a degree but i think Compton was dropped for slow scoring and i mean slow scoring what is Root doing.
I agree the lad has great potential but test cricket does not care for experience.

Look at test level they have virtually played the same.

Root has qualities he sure does and the fact he has not always been helped.

No somebody mentioned the amount of tests each has played funny some have called Pujara slow but Root is in overdrive.

Big summers for both i think..

My view for what's its worth is that at the moment Pujara is the better player this is based on him having more experience in first class cricket than Root and also being given a solid spot to make his own I.e the No3 spot. So far root has batted at 6,2 and 3 in his very short career. I have no doubt that Root will become a true great of English cricket, maybe not world cricket but certainly English cricket. I would say the same about Pujara he will be a good player but the way Indians treat cricketers do not think he will be a god as I think Koli will set a new bench mark in world cricket in terms of games played, runs scored and trophies won.

The other part to roots game is his bowling which I think England under use at the moment.

Root is hideously over-rated. If that's the best young talent that England have, I can understand why so many foreigners get a game for you!

Agreed, he looks a good prospect, but more than that he appears to have a combative nature and is up for a fight. His ton at the WACA was a great innings.

Don't know why but I just don't rate Root.
Nor Bresnan, Broad or Bairstow for that matter

Its very hard to knock Broad atm! 59 test poles at 25 so far this year!

exactly, it was the situation and the manner in which he scored that ton which made me sit up and take notice more than anything

You can only really judge a player at the end of his career.

For any Indian player to reach the top level, he has much more competition than many other nations (1bn people which Cricket is the national sport). In England, 70m people where cricket is the 3rd most popular sport after football and rugby. On that basis, it would have been easier for Root than Pujara.

Where I think it has been more difficult for Root is the fact the guy has been catapulted into the England setup before he has really played much First Class cricket, with three years less maturity than Pujara (Let's not forget how difficult late teens/early 20s is - especially when so much expectation is heaped on you).

For England, all eyes were on Root. For Pujara, many were still looking at Tendulkar and Dravid plus the influx of new names from the IPL, the spotlight was off him.

I look forward to seeing Pujara coming to England and playing the moving ball, as much as Root has been tested by the short ball in Australia.

Either way, its an interesting debate

So here we are now next question

Who will score more runs in the up-coming series

My money is on Pujara by a long way i do not think he will have much difficulties in England bar a resurgence of Anderson

150 runs in it..

But you never can be sure Anderson could be back at his best and it doesn't take much insight to know he will be a hand full along with Broad and another.

Root might not even be in the team but i suspect he will be i do rate Root just not as much as some.
