Pretty much been told that I have to play for the side I'm selected for and cannot pick and choose. I rather play with my mates in the seconds and enjoy my game. Got to a point last season where I skipped some games because I was being forced to play for a side I didn't  want to.

Got plenty of mates at other clubs who would happily accommodate me. Just thought I would be loyal and play my last season in England at the club I've played at for the past few years

lol! What's loyal about staying with a club and dictating to them when and where they select you and throwing your dummy out of the pram and not playing when they don't change all their plans to suit you? If you're so anti these people in the 1st eleven that it's stopping you playing at the highest standard you can, I'd say you need to move clubs, not hang around in the 2nd team, cash in on the big scores and then moan as if it's everyone else's fault. Take control of your situation.

It's always not as simple. Clubs will say 'the club comes first, do as you are told', however.. it's amateur cricket, not professional cricket. The way you run a team is totally different.  I think that's what is being lost in teh amateur game, that club feel. Every club is becoming so focused on winning and being 'professional' that they are abusing their players.

At the end of the day, players PAY to play cricket. You as a club HAVE to provide them with what they want for their time and money. That's why I'm personally against clubs who pay players, that isn't the sign of a good club, it's the sign of a club that can't produce and keep it's own players.  Big clubs tend to use and abuse players in the pursuit of victory. Smaller clubs just operate as a actual club, where the players tend to play for enjoyment and enjoy seeing each other do well in teh knowledge that if they have 3 bad games (say given out LBW when they shouldn't, get a jaffa etc) they won't be dropped down the order/teams etc

We're in the progress of moving house and my mrs spotted a house she liked, so we went and had a look. It turned out to be on the door step of our local rivals, she had the tenacity to suggest I could move clubs! I took it akin to being told she would be removing my testicles with the butter knife.

I am. With a bit of regret as it's the club I've played for since I was 8 or 9 but the final straw came just before last season when I was replaced as skipper, without anyone having the decency to tell me - until I tried to pick a team for the first game and one of the lads asked me if I knew I'd been replaced! So I've decamped to the local rivals who I've always got on with, they seem a good set of blokes and hopefully the enjoyment will return. Oh, and our first game is against my old team... Just hoping I impress in the nets and get picked

Bit much but didnt your club have an AGM  in my experience most who want to be captain attend or request the minutes

I play for the same club I played my first ever game of cricket for when I was 9 years old. Move forward 18 years and the club has gone from having 3 saturday XI's and 2 sunday XI's to 2 and 1 respectively. Last summer I worked regularly on weekends but had some free sundays and played but I think of the 8 or so games I played only once we were able to field a full XI. It's sort of embarrassing to turn up with not a full team and also just sucks constantly playing with a hand tied behind your back. There is part of me that wants to stay and be loyal to the club I've played for since I was 9 but also part of me wants to find a new club that isn't struggling, but then I'm just contributing more to its struggles.

Yes turning up without a full team is not much fun but moving on is not always the move for instance with your availibilty you might have to fight for selection  maybe your best option is to stay where you are that way you know you will get a game when work allows.

The new skipper had been approached to do the job before the end of the season. No issues with being replaced, just would have been decent to inform me after 15 years playing for them.
They finished second bottom of the same league we finished second top in when I was skipper so that's some consolation

From my experience being a skipper is such a thankless task, everyone else on the field always thinking they know best lol.

I understand your dilemma, I went through a similar kind of thing in 2014, I was often playing in sides 1 or 2 short and even having to scratch a few matches. It was with heavy heart that I went in search of cricket elsewhere, I felt very disloyal for doing so and, understanably, thoroughly p***ed off my skipper.  Move onto 2015, after a bit of a search I found myself a new club and realise with hindsight it was totally the right move, thoroughly enjoyed the season and hopefully this'll be the last club I play for before I hang up my boots for good. I think sometimes you just have to be a bit selfish, unless your current club has some big plans about how it'll turn things around.
