3 ball duck edging off a forward defensive after play two awful shots beforehand.

Ended up burning my arm on the sand that was all over the outfield and of course the burns on the knees from my pants! Why do cricket pants always burn knees???

Anyway a naff return off my tenner.

First friendly of the season was meant to be last weekend, but opposition could only get 6 players :( I have now been asked to play for my university team on Wednesday in a pre-season t20, I think against a local school first team in Sussex. Annoyingly, because of other sporting commitments and academic deadlines, I am definitely missing my clubs matches this weekend, and then the weekend after when the league starts proper. At the same time, I don't know if I could last a full league match at present, because I am suffering shin splints in my right leg, which makes running uncomfy, so I am glad I am a spinner!

Played my first game in the 2nds this saturday gone. Away to Risinghurst 2nds (who won there division last year).  Batted first on a very slow pitch, we score 203 in 35 over, I finished with a scratchy 22*.  Did middle a few in the last over (the salix was fantastic Pete).
Risinghurst struggled to get going and only managed 112 for 4 in reply.  Despite dropping and easy caught and bowled chance, not a bad start to the 2014 season.

i knicked off second ball but didn't walk and wasn't given out.

Not something to be proud of - its a friendly and that is a very very poor attitude!! >:(

I played a game yesterday where we had oppo 99-9 and their last wicket partnership put on 20 runs as the bowlers just bowled outside off stump? I batted 3 and made 29 off 101 balls as wickets were falling all around me ... i knicked off second ball but didn't walk and wasn't given out. In the end we lost by 12 runs which ultimately their last wicket partnership put on which was disappointing, and today played a t20 and made 27 before twisting my knee setting off for a run so and had to retire hurt and consequently injured for 4 weeks so pretty bad start to season really.

Guess that's karma.

We lost by 11 runs on Saturday. Typical pre-season friendly, everyone got a game. Having managed to forget my shirt, I wasn't very loose and endured the worst 40 overs of my life in the field. Back was making me a passenger in the field and was giving me sharp pains with every movement. Bowled averagely and got a caught & bowled from a full toss. Redders had a go at keeping and then bowling, was probably a bit better at the latter as he bowled one guy with a lovely flighted delivery. Chasing 168, we coasted to 50 odd before losing a wicket and then collapsed to 74-5. Went into bat reluctantly due to my back, but from then on I felt really good. Not sure if it had loosened up but timed nearly everything and felt completely in control, even managed to jog a bit between wickets. Eventually I got a leading edge needing 30 off 3 overs. Brought up my first run of the season with a reverse sweep, it was so slow that I went through the shot and swept it past leg stump instead!.

Sunday, barely made it out of bed thanks to the back but I learnt from my mistakes and loosened up. Took some painkillers and I was 100% better. Still couldn't really run but bowled 8-1-23-1 into a gale, out of a total of 244-3 off 40. We were 170-2 off 32 when rained curtailed things. Odd thing is I woke up Monday with no back problems and since Monday my back feels nearly back to normal. No explanation just feel back to my unfit self again. See how long it lasts.

First game of the season saturday just gone. Was cold and windy up near Emley Moor. Played in the 2nds and made 49. Needed 3 to make 50 but I was very stiff and running with a guy in his 50's. Decided on a safe 2 and was bowled next ball.
Still we won the game and got the full points so a good start to the season. The 2 opening bowlers for us got 5 wickets each.

Also bumped into David Dickinson in the club after the game and had a pint with him! Jolly nice chap!

We played our season opener against our local rivals on saturday, always adds an edge to the friendly at the start of the season, especially as our grounds and club houses are adjacent. They scored 270-6 off 40 overs and we did if for 6 in the 39th, cracking game (if a bit cold). I went too a leave 3rd ball of our innings for 2. I thought it was poor judgment as i trudged off (shaking my head), but was reassuringly told after the game that the ball came back 6inches to hit off. Hopefully that's the one for the season! Next week is the start of the League cup :)

It was cold and a bit of light drizzle but we managed 70 overs at Norton Lindsey. Hardly great conditions to bowl spin and wearing my long jumper didn't help. I think Warwickshire must have a summer micro climate as last year we didn't lose a single league game due to rain.

Yeah, I'm at Sussex

Excellent, I was president of the Sussex Uni cricket club in 2005 (was there 2002-2005) How's cricket going, still strong, still sociable?
