Excellent, I was president of the Sussex Uni cricket club in 2005 (was there 2002-2005) How's cricket going, still strong, still sociable?
Its going really well, firsts got promoted undefeated last season, and we smashed varsity this year (and ruled Oceana until one of our guys got assaulted that night). There was a lot of tour related banter, sounds as though it was raucous the entire way through. We have enough players for 2/3 teams but only have one after the debacle with the seconds last year (Uni changed term structure, so people were away and we only got a team out once). We played Brighton College in a pink ball t20 last night, rained the whole way through. They were 107 all out in about 15 overs, personally got a couple of wickets in my 2 overs which went for about 9/10. One bowled middle, bit over pitched so hit the stumps on the half volley but hey, a wicket it a wicket, and in my second got one plumb LBW with possibly the most pickable wrong'un in the land! I don't know why but I always bowl well when playing with a pink ball! We knocked the runs off in the 17th or 18th over four wickets down, our opener got a nice 40ish not out and steered us home.

Did you play at the college ground? Is it still a good a deck as I remember?

Good to hear its still going from strength to strength, i think cricket only really got going properly the year before i joined so we were quite small comapred ot other sports. The president before me managed to get us in the "in" crowd within the Union Sports lot, we got a coach in, set up the womens team, got a proper cricket tour across Europe sorted. We always under achieved as a team on the pitch though, some great players who never quite achieved their best. It was a great laugh though, always had some great nights in the old Honey Club (RIP) with Netball, Hockey, Rugby.
One thing we never achieved in my time was a win against the Poly, glad to hear you smashed "colourer in-ners" this year.

Yeah we played at the college, was a pretty nice track, but it drizzled the whole way through so it was skidding a bit, but the quicks could get some assistance with good bounce and carry and some seam movement. Turned a bit as well, but with a dry seam it would have turned an awful lot more!

I wouldn't say we are the 'in' crowd with the union despite the current president working in the activities office, apparently we are in debt by a few hundred pounds because someone a couple of years ago ordered about 500-700 pounds worth of caps! The womens team hasn't been in existence since I have been at Sussex (I'm second year), but we do have a new coach, Ash Wright, brother of Luke of England fame, who really knows his stuff and has sorted my batting out no end! We suffer because of the new term structure, with two 12 week terms and a five week assessment period, so most games are after all the exams are done and people have left for summer. we didn't  play in varsity last year as there wasnt a venue available, but we played Brighton in the league. Got bowled out for 99 on the green top at Falmer, and then our opening bowlers absolutely smashed it, one taking 6-8 and the other took 4 for about 30. Here is the scorecard from last night if it is of any interest: http://www.crichq.com/matches/130835

Looking at the weather I think tomorrow shall be a day of waiting around for the League umpires to call the game off at 4pm when it could have been done at 11am. The worst type of days

Yeah very true. As much as I love playing I do always prefer it that if it is going to rain then it to chuck it down properly all morning and call it off early than play about 45 minutes cricket in 6 hours as we wait around "giving it a chance

The weather looks ok in the South. Bit of rain early on then clearing and heading north.
Hope to get the first game of the season in!

I have a friendly tomorrow and after the ball ache of having to get 11 men tomorrow it was tough. I blame football. I am skipper of the 1's and I have 3 3rd team players in. I am sure they will enjoy the game and I will get the a bat/bowl so they contribute. Tomorrow is more of a case of getting the cobwebs off the kit. I don't care about the result.

My 2014 season looks like being delayed...been raining here most of the day, not forecast to stop until 7pm and then rain all day tomorrow from 1pm  :( glad I booked a net tonight or else I'd have forgotten which end of the bat to hold by the time the league starts next weekend  :-[

Its rained here for the last 48hrs.

We are playing on a ground that is damp at the height of summer, has no covers and no drainage.

So guess what......game is still on apparently?? Can only see it as some kind of joke. As it is still raining. Unless its a "arrive stand for 2hrs, declare unfit" job. Which are the worse!

I was called off yesterday afternoon. It now means I will be playing the first league game next Saturday with no match practice... Sounds a good start to the year.
