I would usually play with borrowed bats some time back, bought one before I joined the forum and now ended up buying around 7, selling 2 of them and still craving for 2/3 more atm. It's all because of CBF i would say  >:(

However compared to Chad, Simon, Pete, Tim and many others on here - I am at least 10 short of where I need to be :o

And I am possibly down to under 100 now? Haven't counted yet but I have sold quite a few in the last couple of months!  :D

While I've never actually met Mr Hosk (of the legendary willow collection) and therefore have no idea what he really looks like, I am somewhat haunted by the vision of a figure in a camel overcoat, shrugging eloquently, arms outstretched, palms up, saying: 'I buy. I sell'.   ;) :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I only ever have 1 usable bat and use it all the time. I may have a new bat that im knocking in for a good few months knowing my current is ready to go.

I think if you have too many bats it gets consfusing and must affect a batsmans form to keep chopping and changing

I beg your pardon.... I now have only five and a mongoose (which isn't a proper cricket bat). You seem to have more than me! Think I need a few new ones :o

See! This is funny, this is!! The justification that 6 bats isn't 'many'.

This is what this place does to us - it turns us weird.

I have 2 bats to use (one of which has been stolen by Dave Procricket!!!!!!!!!!!) and a further 3 to sell on eBay/my club. Sadly, that's the least I've had in months.

If you follow Garret's logic - 2 is the most you would ever need at any one time. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAAHAAHAAHA!!!!!! Johnny, you really haven't entered into the spirit of the thing - at least 6 bats makes you better - and each new bat you buy makes you better than the last one.

Many of us need serious counselling - but if we got that, it wouldn;t be fun any more,

................now then - who's got a bat for sale?

I have 4 bats one is a mongoose that stays in the duffle bag for lms games.

My current match bat was one i found in the club garage and refurbed over the winter this will go back to the clubs bag at the end of the season. i am still knocking in my new match bat.

I also picked up a cheap msr bat last year which i still haven't knocked in but this will be my spare bat

A week ago I would have probably asked the same question.

But both of my bats in the nets broke in the space of 5-10minutes, one was a new one that my brother just got me, and the other I've had for a while.

I've been looking at replacements, bought one already, and looking at two, while another is on it's way.

Yeah...as much I said it was just a precaution, I may have gotten addicted.

I'm gonna stop.

I currently have 13 bats which is the lowest I've had in a while. For me some is that I can as I like them for what they are, if that makes sense, like some people collect watches etc. I will say that they are all 2.9 or 2.10 which is my desired weight. I use one bat for my league cricket every week and an exact copy to net with to pro long my main bat. The others just get a go every now and then and on occasions if one is really liked by a club mate etc it gets sold to them as half would just go online and buy blind

Ideally I think 2-3 is enough, but I have 6 now.

Most of them are bats I bought while trying to find the right bat for me, I hardly sell stuff so they will be in my collection for a while.

Aldred Silver Sov is my current match/net bat.

Good offers mean we may pick an extra one up.

See a bat we've always wanted to try, feels good to buy a bat and have it arrive at home/work.

Does it not feel even better to walk into a shop and try out a load of bats and then leave with (what you feel is) the best one?  ???

It might be an obvious observation, but I think a lot of people collect things that they don't necessarily need. I know people who collect guitars, vintage cars, coins etc. What's the problem with having more willow than you might need?

Spend your money on something you want. A collection of bats, or a house full of other equally worthless/priceless (delete as appropriate) objects. Surely the choice is down to the person with their money in hand.

I've always owned 1 bat, but started reading the forum and well I'm not sure, bought H4L on a Xmas whim, read all the details about Amplus, bought one and reading here I've found another I want to try!?

I do wonder will the difference in bats effect my performance!  LOL.

As for how many, life's short, why not indulge.

I have a small collection of old school bats that i will never use or sell but remind me of when i could actually bat and play cricket,
i mean women collect shoes and handbags so why not men collecting cricket bats,
I do have a few newer ones i'm looking to move on so i can go down to maybe 2-3 actual match bats and net bats,

I tend to buy a new bat every two seasons. Ive broken a few and sold a few during this cycle.
I current have two bats in the kit and 3 at home of which one is a old 90s gn, one is a experimental I brought that was too heavy and have customised. I promised my wife i'd sell one to pay for the last one, but I never said when. My next bat will be via the forum sponsors.

Why? Bats change so much and I love trying out the new tech or getting an absolute bargain or unique bat no one else has seen.

Variety is the spice of life. As long as there is a spare room in the house I can devote to equipment it will always be full of bats- unless I stop playing. A few have been moved on recently so the current count is just over 50. Another Joker and an Affinity Carbine have been added in the last few weeks. After 1 innings with the new Joker I fear it may have reached the end of its playing life as the Carbine is just ridiculous. There's something therapeutic about having a room full of toys.
