B3 Rehandle/refurb
« on: November 02, 2014, 11:30:45 PM »

Hi guys, been a little while since I posted up a few pics, so here are some of a rehandle/refurb I got from B3! It was a blank BAS, which didn't really need a refurb as it had been used once, but was told that the rehandle included the refurb and resticker. It did have a squint handle, so I asked B3 to rehandle the bat, and for the handle to be a similar shape to my Screaming Cat oval handle, but just a touch thinner. Here's what I got back:

Here's a picture of the handle before:

As you can see the handle is now straight! We will start with the cons, as the pros balance out most of them.

Cons:
Handle is round (Requested an oval)
BAS stamps were sanded out (small one, unavoidable with the refurb as the stamps are shallow)
Pretty pricey! Set me back £57.50, plus how much it cost for me to post it down!

Pros:
Handle is straight
Was allowed to select between an option of 2 different handles
Finishing was good, lovely gleam to the bat
Black B3 stickers look classy on the bat
Bat returned pretty promptly
Service was great, offered to redo the rehandle FOC and refund the postage cost (Declined the kind gesture)
Let me pay after the rehandle was done

The bat does look stunning though in my opinion, and I wouldn't have spent so much money on it if I didn't think it was worth it! The rehandle doesn't seem to have had a detrimental effect on the performance at all, the bat still pings like crazy! A round handle feels so weird to me though, the balance is right, but it just doesn't seem to suit the way I grip a bat. However, a handy trick a fellow Hong Kong citizen taught me (I swear he's like the Chinese Swann, incredible drift, flight and turn Lyon, such a clubbie spinner...) has made the handle feel just right. :)

Overall, I would say a good experience and turnaround time. It was a little disappointing that the handle shape wasn't right, but I made the decision not to take up their offer, so I can't fault their customer service. Has the mistake put me off B3? Nope, mistakes happen, and it wasn't anything malicious or deceiving, just a little miscommunication. Their offer to resolve things basically resolved everything for me, I'm happy to know that they were willing to fix the problem.

I'm a big fan of the B3 service but I would be very annoyed if they put a round handle when I asked for an oval one - especially paying close to £60!

In my books, it would be absolutely criminal to ask for an oval handle and get a round handle in return - especially when the re-handle was the primary reason for the work. They should either refund the job or have it sent back at their cost and replace the handle.

may be you are right but it must be noted  that the company have not refused anything, op has decided not to do anything  about it.

Are b3 sending free chase  bat with every refurb job?

IMO you'd be doing nothing wrong by asking about the rehandling. I for one wouldn't be happy in the change of handle type due to an error you're ultimately paying for, especially when B3's customer service is normally top notch and will help you out!

Hi All,

Firstly, Chad please except my apologies, as to be honest I think that the book stops with me on this one as I pushed the bat into the factory for a rehandle with no further info. The factory then do what they do best and replicate the handle that was in the original bat. We will obviously do the necessary to make sure you get what you wanted i.e. an oval rehandle and will credit the delivery charge to get it back to us.

Think it is a little harsh that we are being judged on customer service when we didn't realise that there was a problem. Mistakes happen, but it is how you handle the mistakes that in my opinion your customer services should be judged upon. We pride ourselves on going the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction, and this case is no different.

Slightly off topic - it is sometimes impossible to fit an oval handle into some shapes of bat, as the depth of the spine at the shoulders constrains the handle size. We are seeing an increase in really small shoulder profiles which means you can only ever achieve a round handle as you can not get the depth needed for an oval handle. I am not saying that this is the case with your bat Chad, as I said I think this was my mistake - but it might be worth checking before you send it down.

I think that is fair enough, you cannot be expected to put a mistake right if you had no idea there was one.

Is it a shame that there is the wrong handle, yes, are they putting it right, yes.

Having seen this bat I do feel the criticism is a little harsh.

I agree with the doctor that mistakes do happen and while that may be irritating, it is how they are dealt with that will determine the customer service.

Having stood in chads 'bat room' and waved this about and looked at it, the finishing that B3 are achieving is top notch and I was very impressed.

So I feel that the issue has been dealt with swiftly and in the best way possible and the product I saw and now the resolution to the main problem would only encourage me to use B3

Yes, along with a rug, curtains and a slice of sarcasm.

Hi Streaky,

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I wasn't really going to go for a rating in terms of B3s customer service, as I know if I raised the issue properly I would probably have received an answer, so would have been an unfair representation. It is annoying on both ends, as I have to then use up more time to repackage the bat, drive down to the courier place to send it off again, wait a while longer and then, knowing my luck, will probably miss the first delivery of the package! (And for you because you don't do things to get them done wrong) The response to this pretty much answers the 'how's the customer service like?' question on this topic. :)

Also, I don't know if this is a misconception, but I've been told that the more you rehandle a bat, the weaker it tends to get, which is another reason why I've chosen not to really bother, despite the handle shape being one of the most important things for me, I'd much rather not have to sacrifice performance for it, as the response is the reason why I was willing to spend a relatively large sum of money on the rehandle. I already spent £150 on the bat, so essentially, this is a £210 bat!

Does that look a deep enough a swell and thick enough a shoulder?

Cheers

I'm pretty sure that if it came with an oval handle, you'd have snapped it up on the spot! Pick up, balance and response are all spot on, even though it's about 2 ounces heavier than what you normally use!

you could lay some thins strips of athletic tape on the back of the handle on top of the twine then rap it once round - not perfect but may give you the feel you are looking for
