Had 4 junior bats last year all rented out. It appeals to the parents to spend £20 on a bat until they get to SH as it wont cost them a bomb in money!

The parents at your club have functioning brain cells?
The number of times little Dave turns up to his first session fully kitted out with top of the range gear, to never play again is somewhat alarming.

But is that not the exact reason something like this might work? They would want to hire rather than buy something for 150 quid only for it not to be used or grown out of in a few months....

My point was something like this wouldn't work, as the parents have more money than sense don't do any research first, they just go out and spend X amount to keep little so and so happy, only to find out that they don't like cricket.

This is why clubs and juniors sides had kit bags!

A big bag with 5-6 sets of kit for the juniors to use as they grew so wouldn't cost parents loads.

Was quite easy and not to expensive to keep the bags up to date and with decent kit.
Unfortunately this never happened, clubs would buy them and expect the kit to last 10 years. It got old dated and beyond repair, never replaced.

Rich kids were okay as mommy and daddy sorted.
Poor kids would either have to continue on and probably be ridiclouled, or as I saw, most would just quit.

Bring back the club kit bags!!

I don't know why, but the club kit bag doesn't get taken out of the shed any more (probably because all the kids have their own kit, but I'm not a coach so couldn't tell you).

When I joined the club I had none of my own kit, so I ended up using a mismatch of stuff out the club kit (Hunts County bat, GN pads and readers gloves). My school's kit bag was the one, those pads still had leather buckles!
It wasn't until I'd been playing a couple of months (and I had a conveniently timed birthday) that I got my own kit. It was purchased with gift vouchers for JJB Sports (remember them) which I received from pretty much every family member as they knew I'd taken up cricket.

I hope you tried the leather buckled pads, there's prob only me and @Seniorplayer that actually used them as youths..

The buckles gripped into the back of your legs like no ones business....and they took ages to buckle up

And they rusted !!

It was them or go without, so I did try them. All the did was cut the circulation off I think, but I tried them!

Most of our kids are from local private schools with some state schools kids. We have a few special kids who rock up with £350+ kit and can't play. Hence why this works.

Gave my stick to @tom line for refurb and I must say the job he did was exception. The finishing was very professionally done, and the difference from before and after is very impressive. Sorry it's taken me so long to put these up, thanks again Tom mate.
