I and many others played Junior county Cricket and my parents didn't have a penny to rub together and the coach ended up giving me a bat if your good enough you will get a go.

I tend to find people with this opinion tend to have been overlooked when there younger..

I and others worked hard to get in our teams like most kids trying

I didn't play cricket when I was younger (Did however play Army U21's rugby and was at a league football club until 16 so I know enough about jnr lvl sports), however I agree that most of the people who go through youth systems aren't the best ones generally and either rely on being a) from the right school b) from the right club c) family connections and then comes talent. Looking at the guys walking around with 'county' kit.. most are pretty bad or nothing special. Obviously you get the rare one at some point who is seriously good. they are rare though

Obviously it's all just personal opinion and we all have different ones, it's what makes forums fun :)

That's it pal, you just see all these Young lads chasing a sponsorship trying to prove something.

It's not worth it, enjoy the game be happy and dedicated and you will play as high as your ability allows!

Not going to argue with a 9ft giant.

Cricket is about enjoyment but ability

Very few players below county cricket  get full kit sponsorship some  manufactures /brands will give you around 25 percent off RRP( and players can  then state they are sponsored) but not all some want you to become brand ambassadors you buy your kit and every recommendation or sale they get via you you get a discount when you want more kit ie the more inquires kit sales they get the bigger the discount you get.

I can remember when i first started  playing  I was  encouraged by of my two friends who played for yorkshire and  I had no kit or whites or lift to our ground. Our coach got me my first kit.

Like Dave said you got to work hard an you might just get recognised an rewarded.

Ps. I used to walk 40 mins to our home ground with all my kit. If you're init for free kit you might be disappointed

I would love to run a scheme for under privileged cricketers it is something in my pipeline.

You see cricket kept me off the streets and out of trouble and taught me so much.

I owe the sport alot.
