Forgot to mention the full blooded drive into my toe I managed yesterday as well. I suspect my toenail is likely to fall off....

Lovely grim picture there mate!

I did that against a sidearm at the start of last season. My toe went a similarly spectacular colour and the nail did eventually drop off. I suspect yours is likely to do the same.

Easy win today, we bowled Normanby Park out for 70 odd and knocked them off for none in 12 overs.

They were rubbish, bit of a waste of time really.

Tea was good and it's a nice ground as well, day out I suppose

first outing for my new bowling.. spin

6-2-27-0   Got properly slogged in my last over for 17 :(   Didn't really have an answer when someone just stood there and slogged tbh.. I'll learn over the winter though. Was enjoyable once a few started spinning. team thrashed the oppos who batted first and two of their batsmen took a friendly way to seriously and got themselves 79 and 69 but very slowly. cost their team a decent total as they only posted 210. Our team chased it down inside 30 overs with 3 people retiring on 50 to at least give others a bat. Not that their bowling was bad, just that it lacked that little something to take a wicket other than relying on the batsmen messing up which only one person did. I spent the innings scoring, so not sure about this bowling lark as I'd prefer the runs :)

Good day today.

74 runs, 3 wickets, a catch and most importantly our 2nd win of the season in 7 matches.

Captained by my lad today for the first time. Great experience and he did very well. Even better when he's umpiring and says well played Dad. Chuffed to blazes. :)

Less talk about cricket , won one lost one, but more about umpiring. You can go games without having to make a decision but this weekend has been a nightmare. Did first stint Saturday and had to give our opener out first ball of the game. It was a leg side full toss than swung away straightened back onto middle, hitting the back pad. Nothing I could do. The same bowler had 3 appeals in the next 6 balls to our leftie, all mighty close and swinging in a lot. Eventually after an inside edge for 4 our number 3 was bowled and I had to get my pads on. Sunday I did 10-12 overseas and had 4 more lbw shouts that were probably just about sliding down leg and benefit going to the batter. Normally when you umpire you get a few rubbish shouts and the odd close one but this weekend they were all 50/50 .If that wasn't bad enough one bowler bowled a slower ball which lobbed up, the batsman went to duck it and it hit the stumps mid way up. Since square was a colt who wasn't paying attention I had to make the decision and gave him out. I reasoned if it hit mid stump then even with a dropping trajectory it wasn't above waist height had he been in his normal stance. A bit of a Chris Read job. Didn't go down well with my him but the batter my end agreed.

I've had 5! Yes 5 slower balls hit the stumps, and be given as no balls by league umpires because "the batsmen ducked must be over waist height". One pitched an inch before the stumps for chuffs sake. Dam umps.

I did 10 overs of umpiring yesterday, only decision to make was hood up or down, as it was freezing!

I didn't plays sat, so filled a spot for Sunday side, 1st team opener to sunday side 7. Mismatched game, we put on 262 for 3. Scores of 43, 40, 97*, 0 and 47* meant I didn't get a bat. Dude on 97 would have got a ton,but shin splints prevented him from anything more than walking ones.
Oppo were then bowled out for 117 in 32 overs. They never once tried to dig in thankfully,

Had a run out for the 3rd XI yesterday, opened the bowling with my 7 over spell that I'm allowed being 17. First over I had a blatant robbery of a wicket by their umpire ball bounced to be around the guys ribs in which he edged clearly down leg side to our keeper, but the umpire ruled it hit his pad. Two overs later, this was worse - same batsman again on the backfoot trying to play defensive hits him on the back pad on middle stump, guess what? Not out. To which I responded I'm going to have to take the stumps out to get a decision to which a fully grown man told me to f**k off with my sarcastic comment. Anyways I finished off with 7.3-1-2-17, and we bowled the oppo out for 82 which we chased in 20 overs.

Touring side came to our place today.
35 overs a side. We batted first and put on 195-2 (retire at 50 game) with an one opener out for 9, number 3 and 4 both retired on 53. The number 5 was run out for 19 and number 4 was left 44*

We then restricted them to 135 in reply. I took 2-21 off 6 (and didn't appeal for a plumb LBW because we wanted to make a game for it.

It's just nice to be playing cricket again!

Called into the 1sts this weekend to cover our regular wk who had to work. Our skipper stuck us in on a grassy green deck and we collapsed to 20/3 early doors. A mini revival got us to 100/4 and I came in at 9 to score 9*.

My keeping is known as "part magic, part mongo" and so this was the case. I had a part in all three wickets we took - two catches stood up and a leg side stumping off our opening seamer. However there was a lot of seam movement and variable bounce which contributed to 10 byes, disappointingly. I'm covered in bruises!

Back in the 2s this week...!

Playing friendly cricket we had the full range this weekend. Saturday we were greeted by a very weak oppo side who could only muster ten. I batted at first drop and made 70 without breaking a sweat until I drove one back at the bowler hard at around shin height who somehow managed to get down low and take it which was amusing as it was the only thing he and his team mates had caught all afternoon including returning the ball back to the bowler. We beat them by the best part of 200 runs.

Sunday we played at Long Marston which is a really lovely place to play cricket. Restricted them to 230 on a road but our stand in skipper focused on getting the youngsters a bat so we struggled to about 150ish all out of which I scored 37 at four. The 37 was infinitely more enjoyable than the 70 the day before though I gave my wicket away just as I was starting to cut loose with a loose shot at cover. Still, a good weekend's cricket for me going into a weekend's break next week.
