I play for Aldenham which is near Watford. What about you? There is a few excellent grounds in that area, I also like Tring but Long Marston is certainly one of my favourites!

Opened the batting for the first time in a league game and got 82. Then kept wicket for 20 overs and now can barely walk!! We won by 50 odd runs.

Season has started a bit iffy, after a winter of netting as often as I could trying to master the drive, I can pick off the bad balls I was hoping to get some early season runs. It didnt really come together in my first 2 innings, out both times for 4 to lbw. After playing with my guard standing much more leg side and on a nice wicket I managed 33 yesterday. It may not sound a lot, but after being out of the game so long I have really struggled to bat.

Last years top score was 6! So this was a breath of fresh air, hopefully some confidence can push me on. I just need to work on balls coming at my pads and scoring quicker, but taking the positives into the weekend.

Bowled Worcester Park out for 86 in 32 and a bit overs.  6 wickets were taken by 14 year old bowlers...

Knocked them off in 26 overs 3 down.  Didn't bat, didn't bowl and barely had a stop to make in the field!

Good thing I'm captain, or I'd be a bit annoyed at doing nothing!

That's 3 in 3 and put us top of the league!

Less talk about cricket , won one lost one, but more about umpiring. You can go games without having to make a decision but this weekend has been a nightmare. Did first stint Saturday and had to give our opener out first ball of the game. It was a leg side full toss than swung away straightened back onto middle, hitting the back pad. Nothing I could do. The same bowler had 3 appeals in the next 6 balls to our leftie, all mighty close and swinging in a lot. Eventually after an inside edge for 4 our number 3 was bowled and I had to get my pads on. Sunday I did 10-12 overseas and had 4 more lbw shouts that were probably just about sliding down leg and benefit going to the batter. Normally when you umpire you get a few rubbish shouts and the odd close one but this weekend they were all 50/50 .If that wasn't bad enough one bowler bowled a slower ball which lobbed up, the batsman went to duck it and it hit the stumps mid way up. Since square was a colt who wasn't paying attention I had to make the decision and gave him out. I reasoned if it hit mid stump then even with a dropping trajectory it wasn't above waist height had he been in his normal stance. A bit of a Chris Read job. Didn't go down well with my him but the batter my end agreed.

I wonder what the ruling is on this? It happened to me in winter nets. A leg spinner flighted one toward my head, I leaned back to avoid it, he apologised but the ball dropped onto the stumps. I wondered if that was actually out or not in a game situation. I asked my buddies who didn't know the answer and I couldn't find anything in the laws of the game. How can it be a waist high no ball if it hits the stumps? Does it depend what height it is as it passes the crease line?

Had an extended net session, made some improvements on my batting as far as getting in line with the ball goes. My bowling is still all over the place though. Funny moments of the night: myself nearly doing an Ian Botham "leg over" incident after getting into all kinds of trouble trying to hit down the leg side from a left armer (ball was going a mile down leg so I figured i'd have a slog), myself calling the groundman for a foot fault no ball then getting stick about my bowling in return only to put the next ball straight through the middle stump (complete with James Anderson arms out wide and "shush" motion), 1st team left arm spinner being hit for certain boundaries off nearly every ball he bowled, 1st team opening bowler throwing his toys out of the pram over a complete non-issue.

3rd 50 in 5 sat games today. 85 from 66 balls in a one sided game.

Us 337 for 7. One guy got 102, and our skip hit 77* of 33 balls, his last 53runs came in just 15balls!

The oppo were 83 all out in 20 overs and 10 and 11 decided not to bat. Bizarre!

We won today, full 20 points. Scored 182 and bowled them all out for 112.
I was poor, got bogged down and scored a slow 22 before being run out (bad umpiring decision).
Worst I've batted this year but at least we won so I'm happy

Finally found a little bit of form today, seem to be finding myself batting at 7 for new club which is a bit different as always been an opener bat Gavin g changed the way I net now to be a bit more care free when batting and now not facing a new ball today game off ok. Scored 27 before getting my 4th LBW in 4 innings but this was out, put on 50 odd with number 6 after we were 35-4 we managed to get up to 155-8 off 45 overs.
Our bowling was poor today and despite getting my tenth catch of the season behind the stumps in the 4th over they were already on 35 odd. Oppo No 3 nicked off time and again to slips who dropped it and despite taking a few more wickets they knocked it off in 30 overs.

@smilley792 Sounds like you're having a good season Chris

Half and half, 67 and 66, followed by 10 and a duck on sat and then another duck Wednesday, seemed I was going backwards, but a holiday last sat, with wed game rained off seemed to given me a break to get my head back, and got a nice 85 today.

Sat average is 45 at a healthy strike rate of 148!!
