And I assume you didn't get a first-baller?

A nice Sunday game against Tomteks lot today, it was a bit wet early on but cleared up into a lovely cricket day.. Tom was smashing it to all parts and I assumed he was using a affinity/arytek gun... Apparently it was a Brucie £40 special!! Bargin

Fortunately not this time. Managed to get enough runs to impress the young master. And my Dad, so can't have been all bad.
Mrs Buzz is showing no signs of being impressed.

Had an interesting weekend of contrasts.

Played our local rivals who seem to have lost some players from when we played them at the beginning of the season and yesterday had a lot of juniors amongst their ranks. Our openers batted the entire innings scoring 208 with the only wicket falling on the very final ball of the 40 overs. In reply the opposition went for it but lacked batting in depth so 2 wickets down and we were into their juniors. Fortunately we have some juniors too so us senior bowlers stood aside and let kids battle it out between themselves. Got myself finally in the game when I took a catch at gully which sealed a victory by 100 runs. Still all the opposition juniors got both a bat and bowl and our juniors got a bowl so cricket in general was the winner yesterday.

Today drove over to Leeds and played on a minefield !! We made 92 all out which I thought might be a competitive total and the opposition had stumbled somewhat to 18-2 but then the heavens opened. Shame as we had some good bowlers in our ranks.

Another late pull out for our game on Saturday which meant we ended up with a slightly mismatched game through the Conference. Our skip asked me to bat at 7 instead of my usual 3-4 spot on the promise that I'd get a few overs, I agreed and sure enough found myself batting within a couple of hours with us on 140-5. Made 73 off 46 as we posted 270.

We then proceeded to bowl them all out for 39, I nearly didn't get a bowl as the skipper said 'well you had a decent bat'. I wasn't particularly impressed by that, the only reason I got a decent bat was because the other wasters in my team couldn't score any runs against a bunch of kids. I was particularly unimpressed when our Sunday skipper threw his toys out of the pram because he was sent in to open but barely got double figures and then wasn't supposed to bowl until he complained so much.

Lost Saturday in our return fixture. Soured somewhat by their antics umpiring in the 2nd innings. I'll get onto that in a minute. We decided to bat and they bowled very well. We mustered 146-7 in 45, redders got 40 odd, chris 17, me 25. Wasn't really enough but we made them work for it, they did it in 37 overs for 2 down. Had 2/3 drop catches which didn't help but as with all village cricket you are onto a hiding when the oppo decide to play french cricket with the LBW laws. One lad who got 77* was LBW twice to me but was allowed go on his way, given he was on 20 odd at the time that's a huge difference to the game. Happens too much but what can you do when your mates umpire? Another guy was plumb LBW sweeping off middle and the worst offence of all was a guy run out backing up by a yard not given. Umpire kindly called our bowler a c**t for his questioning of the appeal - charming. It transpires that one of our ex players overheard their skipper say "if they appeal, count to 6 and then give it not out. They haven't given us an LBW in 6 games.". Can't comment on the last bit but most of our team will give a decision if it's plumb and like most teams the benefit of any doubt goes with the batsman. Stupid at Div3 of the CHL that teams do this but having an umpire is worth it's weight in gold.

Even worse, pulled my hammy quite badly and had to miss out playing on the Sunday :-(. Anybody got a quick fixes for hamstrings?

another failure with the bat on Saturday! caught low down at gully cutting one that was maybe not quite wide enough to cut. our skipper has been urging the top 3 to be more aggressive and put us in a good position early on, which translates to us being 30/3 after 10 overs every week without fail. next week I'm not going to listen to him and just play sensibly - as soon as the shine went off the ball (15 overs) it was an absolute road!

still, we won the game and I got 2 catches and 2 stumpings so not a total waste of time :)

Not so sure that's true Nick. Watched a game on Saturday with an "Independent" opposition umpire who didn't give a single LBW decision (although as an observer I couldn't comment). I could comment on the wides though. My side conceded 44 wides, all of them singles, out of their total score of 150 odd. I took up a position lying on the floor directly in line with the stumps. He was giving wides to balls that the batsmen were missing 3 inches outside off stump. Totally crazy umpiring in anyone's book, and he is a "qualified" ump. Turns out that every other team in the league has also complained about this umpire, and there seems to be a very good reason why the team is sitting on the top of the league...

Plenty of rubbish umpires around but not seen many in Warwickshire. Some shockers in Yorkshire though, use to get plumb lbw turned down and then another given when it's missing the next set lol. I think it's more about consistency than anything, if the guy applies the same rules to both teams then that's a start in the right direction.

Played down in Brighton on Saturday vs Isfield. Their keeper wears a go-pro so I will find a link when it comes online, but he'd run out of memory before I got a go! Batted first Saturday, we got 270/6 off 46, only one failure but that was to a good ball and good catch. Batted 6, got 47* before my brother declared on me... Opened up the bowling with a wicket maiden, but in our 47 overs we couldn't quite get the oppo out, ended on 200/8.
Sunday played at home vs local rivals (again, 5th time in two seasons) and unusually they didn't have several adults. We set 300/8 from 40, one of my lads in his first match in two months due to gcses got 87*, I chipped in a quick 52. We then bowled them out for 158. Oppo umpire was getting tetchy at the end as it was getting a bit dark, partly because our batting innings had lasted 3 1/2 hours, so I brought myself on and ran through them. Everyone else who wanted to had bowled except the keeper, and I was just hoping to get through some overs quickly to end it, not take 5/4 in 3.4 overs.
Was very glad I played down south Saturday as I had a 1s call up at home, but the openers put on 270/0 and one of them added a 5fer to his 150 as the oppo were all out for 68. Most of the team did literally nothing, and I certainly wouldn't have batted and would probs not have got much of a bowl.

I know a couple of their players and they link this up on Facebook as well. Hopefully your game is there.

Playing the team that are 3rd in the division tomorrow we are top we lost to these guys 2nd match of the season we only had 8 players inc 2 who didn't play cricket should get 11 tomorrow though as we are at home.
So far  this season all clubs  have been much stronger at home mabe it is because the division is spread across Worcestershire Herefordshire Shropshire and Birmingham.
