Put my name in the Wetherby League player pool this week (free week due to teams dropping out of our division) and ended up playing for the team we beat last week. The lad who I bowled out last week got 140 today and we ended up with 262 off 40 overs. In fairness the opposition were seriously weakened due to Eid celebrations and only managed about 40 in reply. Managed to get on to bowl at the end and picked up the final wicket.

Played for our 2nd's against Adie @ProCricketer1982 yesterday.  Bowled some gash, just couldn't get a length.  Chasing 266 ,Batted 3 and got 58, my 2nd ever fifty and first one for the 2nd XI.  We finished 30 odd short in the end, a good enjoyable game, one of our lads smashed 20 off 4 balls then got out.  Including one of the biggest 6s ever seen at our club!

Well yesterday showed to me cricket is a Wierd sport and day to day things go differently.

Not caught a scoring all season. Yet took two slip catches yesterday. One a low down stunner in my wrong hand!

Batting.
5 fifties this year(including the 81 on wed) and when I've failed it's been short or stupidity from myself.

Yesterday I felt like a no 11 who's innings would not end.
Two top edges through gully. A missed full toss that even I thought was plum(umps was shocking), dropped at slip before finally being given lbw.
Didn't middle a thing and don't think I ever was going to.

Thankfully we won. Oppo 121 all out, we knocked them off in 19overs for 3 wickets down. And in the bar by 6.

7am yesterday, got a text from the 2s skipper saying his daughter was ill, and if asked if I was still available.

Took his spot, and the captaincy. Had a word with a couple of players and they agreed to be swapped into the third team to get more balance.

Opposition were late due to an accident so claimed the toss and batted first on a worn track.

Struggled to 150-9 in 45.

Listened to the players who normally play and then took my own decision, swapped it around a bit and had the opposition at 15-5 in 17 overs.

Went down to 10 men and the opposition dug in but eventually blew through them for about 115.

30 points, first win of the season and a lot of happy faces.

Next week the usual captain is back and I'll be back in to retirement for the season.

91 on Saturday in a club record total of 311/5 from 46. Threw away my chance for a second ton in 3 weeks with a poor shot to gully but would take that score starting each week!

Was a decent track and a good toss to lose as we got put in. Oppo were chirpy for about the first 15 overs but then it was like batting in a graveyard after we'd scored about 100 by that point (perfect!)  :D

Also kept a lot better this week as they finished up 194/6 and never really gave it a good go and just wanted some bonus points in the end.

This is my third season of playing cricket (I'm 27), and at the start of it I averaged 4.3 and my top score was an all-slogged and edged 18. Got some professional coaching at the start of the year, hell 4 leather G1 and even lifted some weights (balls did I keep that up), came into this season with the aim of scoring a 50, which I realised was aiming high but I thought was possible. I scored a 26 and a 34 at the start of the season and then my instinct for defense left me and I went back to my old ways and scored 5, 4, duck, 2, then two weekends ago my girlfriend came to watch me for the first time, having heard me on about cricket for years but having never even seen a cricket match before, scored 8 and then missed a misjudged sweep off middle and off and got bowled.

This week the gf came again along with both parents and was determind to score and I got 35, new high score. Came off annoyed I hadn't made it a 50 but come Monday morning I'm really pleased with it. Last week I was thinking - maybe that's it, my little flash in the pan off the back of the coaching and I'm back to being a bunny, but this has proved it's not, I can actually scored again and again with a bit of application, and there's about 7 games left to get that 50, I'm determined to get it.

It was that sweep I shouldn't have played off the stumps the week before that made me realise what I needed to focus on, shot selection. Face a few balls of a new bowler to see what they're doing, and then get one or two options in your mind. If he's medium pace bowling full my options are drive him if he's too wide and put him back over his head if he's too short. To offies it's cut the short ones and sweep the leg-side ones. And if I don't see those balls I'm looking for - defend, and with that attitude I can bat out 12 dots and not feel any pressure from the scoreboard, because I know the balls weren't there, and as soon as they're there, I'll hit them.

I got out after losing concentration and missing a full toss from the leggie I was trying to work to midwicket and should've driven, it's the concentration that's going to stop me if anything. I need to put more energy into focussing intensely on every ball. It feels great to know that's the thing that's holding me back and I can finally know it's not my technique or self-belief.

'Stick' at it Sticky.

I'm an awful batsman and the only way I get into a rhythm and form is to bat and practice loads, as I just don't seem to have any memory for technique or method - it simply doesn't come naturally.

Stick at it and practice as much as you can, and also as Buzz says, don't overthink it.

Through a variety of factors I have hardly netted this year at all and I find I am regressing rapidly - keep your foot on the pedal man!

absolutely - also finding a pre game practice that works for you - visualisation, throw downs, tennis ball, a quick net - anything that gets your eye in and you in the right mental place to bat.

Sorry Brucie - I could do with a net too!!

That is another thing I've been doing, the visualisation bit, not that I would've called it that, but getting used to the feel of being out there by sitting and imagining getting into the right positions and the ball coming out of the middle of the bat, I just go out there calmer than I've ever been, can't underestimate the importance of walking out with a clear head.

Cracking win saturday and now in with a real shout of avoiding relegation.
Bowled first at castle Bromwich (quick outfield true deck, if a touch green). They got 196 ao in 43 overs. We pinched their last 7 overs and knocked off the runs in 55 overs. Ran myself out for 31 in the 27th over after having seen off the new ball in a rather dull fashion. 200 was never in doubt with wickets in hand we just struggled early on (10-2, 20-3etc).

Gutted as my game today has been called off. It would have been my first Saturday league game for 5 years and my first game for the club I played for as a kid for 27 years! Only the 3rd's but happy to start at the bottom and work my way up. Can't expect anything else as they not seen me play before. Not available for the next few weeks either as off on holiday, so might not play for them until next season.

played today, we got put in on a moist green top and scored 100, was horrific. they had a pin puller of a grenade bowler who took 6 for not many, mostly us getting caught including myself. they chased it down at a trot, i got to bowl 5 overs and got 1-4
