I never took much notice whether the buckles were inside or outside until being given out caught behind after my bat clipped against a buckle (with the buckle outside on this particular occasion) when playing inside the line of a delivery.

How on earth did your bat get anywhere near the outside of your leg?! Surely you mean you hit the buckle on the inside of your leg?!

Maybe he clipped his back leg on the way down ?

Your back leg must have got in a very odd position! We're you square on or something?

Don't get me started on superstitions!
Left side first every time though, including thigh guard, inners, gloves and of course pads (not in that order, obviously!)

You see I always have to put my right pad on first, starting with the bottom strap and working my way up.
then I do the same on my left pad
then I do my thigh guards, then arm guard, then inners, gloves and finally helmet

Then I get out second ball

Helmet thrown in disgust into bag
Gloves, the same fate
Existential crisis, Wonder why I even turn up to play this stupid sport and how my Saturdays could be put to better use
Pads, taken off and thrown somewhere in a five meter radius

My current pads are buckles on the inside.  This is to stop straps catching (I have twigs for legs!) but also for comfort.  I find pads are not uniformly made, so whatever feels comfortable on my front leg dictates which way round the buckles are.

Buckles inside, straps outside.  This is the only way.

I am clearly going to have to do a video to explain why you have buckles on the outside...!!
