Smith gets a nasty bouncer on his head. Quite close to the repeat of Phil Hughes. Why the heck did he skip the stem guard ??

Why is one of the best Test players taking his eye off the ball?

I can't help but think his technique at times is somewhat awful

This is good though

Wish my technique was awful enough to make constant test 100s.

I wish mine was good enough to make 30s in village cricket  ;)

I'll gladly have a poor technique and average nearly 60 in Test cricket

Would that be watching him at Warwickshire? Cos his technique hasn't maintained his England spot!!

Doesn't matter how good you luck, that doesn't win you games. Runs does.

Ian Bell in form hid down at 6 and scored cheap runs after Strauss, Cook and Pietersen laid the platform. Bell was mentally weak hence why he always deemed a loser.

Are we talking about technique or what sort of runs he got? 🙈

Bell feasted against Bangladesh and India. Hardly teams with great bowling attacks...you don't have to worry about technique too much when it's buffet bowling.

Bell's 'technique' was destroyed by Australia and New Zealand many a time.

Technique matters a lot but only if the bowling is decent and the wickets are sporting. Sadly, as we know the majority are roads and the few that do nibble most of the game shows nearly every batsmen up (even the ones fabled as world class). I had high hopes for this NZ series and day one wickets in tests have been good.. Sadly, day 2 onwards it's been a road
