Did a good viewing of the first over of you batting before we got started again, leave seemed in good order! Looked like it was swinging round corners from the boundary. Good day for leaving, one of our openers got off the mark I think in the 14th over 🙈
It was hooping!

If that auto roller has an old lister diesel engine on it, NEVER let it run out of diesel. Ive found that out as well. Different animal to your modern Honda petrol engines.

Went up to give the wicket a roll and outfield a cut...neither of which were particularly successful.

Roller ran out of diesel and wouldn't then restart, tractor kept clogging up due to the grass being wet and then wouldn't pull away again once unclogged the gangs.

Eventually got the roller back in the shed after towing it off the wicket with the tractor! Let's hope it's not a sign of things to come tomorrow 🙈

Skippered,  bowled opposition  out for 69 in 35 overs & knocked it off for 1 in 15 overs.  Managed to get 29NO. First game batting in glasses & a helmet, new stance and trigger movements paid off. Much better than anything I did last season. Quick thumbs up for my RPC Mjolnir shape, great bat.

I played my first game of the season on Sunday after an intense last minute training session on Saturday (the game was called off as the other team couldn't get a side out) we played against one of the teams in our league. It was absolutely freezing and I regretted only wearing a long sleeve jumper. We bowled first and had a really good start. The pitch was really green and didn't really do much. I bowled two three over spells due to a bowler arriving late and agreeing to bowl the last overs from one end. As a spinner I was frustrated with the lack of spin which is to be expected but due to working hard all winter it was frustrating. By the time I came back on to bowl they had very few runs and we wanted something to chase to give the batsmen some decent time at the middle so despite bowling in the death as a spinner I had a ring field with no sweepers at all. I got hit for a few boundaries (the leg side boundary was a miss hit for six as we used the edge of the square to keep the middle cuts fresh ready for the league games. I also picked up my first wicket of the season with an arm ball smashing into leg stump. Their 40 overs ended with them on 157-5. We had a fairly relaxed run chase with all of our batsmen having decent time in the middle chasing it down in 34.5 overs winning by 7 wickets. Also our first team won their ECB national cup so it was a good weekend for us  :)

First game of the season yesterday on a not so surprising wet and interesting track. Agreed to play a 40 over game, oppo batted first and crawled to 125 with me taking 2 stumpings. Tea was excellent, arguably the most important part of any cricket match! We then proceeded to make the game interesting with me going in to bat with the score at 25-5. We then continued with the collapse to be 64-9 when our number 11 came out to bat. I usually open for our 1s so no mug with the bat, I decided to just have some fun. We won with me ending up on 79 not out, hitting their league 1st team opening bowler back over his head for 6 to win the match. 65 run partnership for the last wicket of which number 11 contributed 0 but held his end up brilliantly when required :)

I managed to play in 2 different parts of the country for 2 different clubs this weekend. Only similarity was we lost by 10 wickets Saturday and 9 wickets Sunday, oh and it was cold. Turned out for my old club Saturday and we limped to 59-5 before myself and "Big Dave" put on 40 odd. I then got a shooter and we folded to 110ao. The oppo had just come down and division but it was clear they had been strengthened for this season and the openers who were head and shoulders above our batsman, cruised to the total. Bowled a few overs but wasn't great, managed to pick up a bruise from a hard caught and bowled chance. Post match food was the highlight. Back down South Sunday, same story, we got 134-8 and they did it for one. Much the better team, my bowling was marginally better so getting there. I had a little stint keeping and was giving a good account of myself until I ran onto the next wicket to collect a wide full toss only for the batsman to top edge it gently. Hands were facing the wrong way and I poked it off the top of the glove onto the floor lol. Gave plenty of amusement to my non-catching colleagues (hilly), but otherwise I gave a masterclass in keeping  :)

What sort of standard is Royal Ascot CC mate? I'm working at LVS Ascot from September and was looking for a club round there. Considering Burnham, Slough or Windsor.

Of the clubs you mentioned, Ascot are the weakest but their 1s still play a good standard.

If you want a social side to your cricket then I would scrap Burnham and Slough.

Windsor are currently TVL div 1, and from what I've heard from a new player they've got they are seeking to seriously challenge for promotion to the Home Counties league this season.

There are plenty of clubs around the Ascot area so it all depends on what standard you are, what standard you want to play and the social side of things.

Booooo!!!

Fair tho, never played Burnham, I agree re Slough and tbh Windsor is just a road.
One game I played there one of the opening batsmen got 149* in a t20

Oh and one of our players is a student at LVS also

I peaked at about 17 regarding a heavy social participation haha. Ideally just want to focus on getting my cricket as good as it can possibly be and Windsor being an absolute road would suit a top order keeper bat just fine!! Looking for round about prem standard as that's what I currently play in.

For prem standard Windsor are probably your best bet as they are aiming to go up to the Home Counties this season. If they dont, and assuming they aren't relegated, then Cookham Dean is another option. It's a few miles down the road from Burnham.

I had to do something,  I couldn't keep chasing balls on the next track both sides of the wicket! If young Charlie could bowl wide one side of the deck you could of stayed at slip.  Not too much to ask surely  :D
