Ah Ha Ha Ha - OLS Gold
« on: July 07, 2016, 01:42:56 PM »

This was my birthday present. An SF Black Edition custom made with 1 inch shorter blade and 1 inch longer handle.
Thought I should share.
After confirming with OLS that this was possible (via email AND FB messenger) before placing the order and then confirming with them again by messenger after ordering that they understood the order this is what was sent.
Oh I laughed so hard.

To be fair to them the blade is shorter than a standard SH and the handle is longer.
Maybe they too the "1 inch shorter blade and 1 inch longer handle." literally and thought this was following your instructions perfectly...

Also as it's an SF - is there a nail in the handle?

Its not that far off  ;) Did you put the edge tape/scuff sheet on or did they do that too? I may start doing that so I don't need to buy scuff sheets, only tape.

Muppets. Seriously. They are muppets. Blade was 1cm shorter. Handle was about 2 inches longer than standard.
Can't be a CA - the grains are at 45 degrees in the upper half of the bat. i've never owned a CA that didn't have ruler straight grains.

Oh and the weight was wrong.
And I asked for no knocking and and no scuff sheet.
So of course they knocked it (the face was covered in mallet indentations - really big mallet indentations - i don't even think you could call the face flat - it was wavy - a wavex face - must be a new technology that).
And they fitted that monstrosity of a firetrucking scuff sheet - i suspect to disguise the fact that the grains were at 45 degrees.

No nail in the handle that i could see.
And was very specific about the dimensions - "overall size is to be SH but with a shorter blade and longer handle - so it is the same size overall as a standard bat"  "do you understand the order? Can you have the bat made to these dimensions?"

When giving the instructions I thought to myself "now if I was talking to an idiot how would I talk?" And messaged away accordingly.
Clearly gave them too much credit.

I'll let you off.

Also @ogroupleader if you have a small magnet handy it might be worth using it to check under the binding for nails as that's where they are most commonly

I wonder if they have glued an extra bit to the top of the handle to make it that long. Might have to whip the twine off and see what lurks beneath....

I assume OLS think they have done nothing wrong and will beg you to close the imminent PayPal case?

I would blame you for having unrealistic expectations from someone who is not a bat maker. OLS is great for standard bats or even for the typical LH/LB option. Not for custom options, especially when they have to source it from a brand like SF. Also, you should have properly mentioned 'Blade 1 inch shorter and standard length bat'.

So why didn't they just say no we can't do that?

No matter what they are if they say we can do it you expect it

A man wearing a white and gold pinstripe suit in a chip shop at a 2am once told me he could get me any DVD I wanted, even ones that hadn't come out yet, and that he had them all in the boot of his car, and because I was 19 and drunk I gave him £15 for 10 DVDs, he let me pick them myself out of the boot of his car. But when I got home, they were all blank CDs. Life lessons.
