Don't use cheap scuff sheet! Decided it's time to give an old faithful some tlc as netting needs to be done and it's badly in need... As I recall I chucked a cheap scuff on in a rush to get this ready for a season start a few years ago. Regretting that now, enough of a pain getting it off before I've even started with the glue! Will post more photos when done, could be a bit of a long job though...

Scuff and stickers finally off. Refurbers of CBF, what's the glue remover of choice? I've always got by with a sharp knife but going to be slow going in this case.

I find using white spirit and then a knife or old credit card works well

White spirit and a Stanley knife blade to scrape it off.

A draw knife at 90 degrees works well. Other long flat blades would work just as well. Also combine with white spirit.

I have a random orbit sander so just use some old sanding discs, doesn't matter what grit, as the glue just sticks to them to reveal the willow, then sand as you would with good sandpaper

You thought about using the middle of the bat? 

Agree with the above though, would go white spirit and a blade first up, finish by sanding any stubborn areas.

Ha, I'll try and claim the scuff has done its' job protecting the middle! Was amazed how much outside edge damage there was when I took it off, normally I end up with cracks all over the inside edge and leave the outside pretty clean. It's severely dry so that clearly hasn't helped.

Glue came off with the help of solvent, razor blade and patience:


Since then it's had a first sand and I've made good progress gluing and sealing up the outside edge cracks.



Still a little way to go yet, lots of glueing and sanding yet to do. Happy with progress so far though.

For sealing cracks do you use normal wood glue? Also does the fibre tape work as a clamp?

If it's just a thin surface crack I use superglue and sanding to seal it up, if something that needs lifting/glueing/clamping then normal wood glue. Haven't tried using fibre tape as a clamp, have always used an actual clamp or grip offcuts if it's a smaller break.

I don't know about fibreglass tape, but stretchy parcel tape is excellent for clamping repairs
