Guys - surely it's up to anyone individually who they want to pick.
This topic is about picking someone who is not in the squad (e.g. not Buttler, as Buttler is already in the squad for India I believe and may get a game?)

Myself I would go for Bell to play in top 4 - so Cook, Duckett, Root, Bell.
Then the normal Bairstow, Stoke, Ali in 5-7.
Then 8-11 could be bowlers & Woakes (all-rounder)

But on some Indian wickets I am sure that we could actually get away with playing less spin than we did in Bangladesh and maybe fit Hameed into the mid order?

Cook
Duckett
Root
Bell
Hameed
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Woakes
Ansari
Broad

Remember Root could take a overs if Koli gets going and sticks around!!

We need a hard as nails number 4 bat and a left arm spinner who can bowl a consistent length and give it a rip.
Two birds, one oversized stone - enter big Samit! Not exactly what we're looking for, but actually did quite a decent job with bat and ball in the UAE last year.

Hey if they want a slightly overweight cricketer who can bowl some serviceable, if not exactly threatening, spin whilst knowing which end of a bat to hold then surely this forum is the place to start, I get to be first in the queue seeing as it was my idea :D

I think it is fair to say Batty is selected for this winter only. If you can do this with a bower why not with a batsman? Could Bell have been picked on a one-off basis? What is his record in India like anyway?

I keep reading that in India you need to be able to defend before anything else. Buttler can certainly smash it on those pitches but can he block 15 balls first? Can Duckett for that matter?

Some say attack is the best form of defence....

Buttler hasn't got a bad temperament. He is learning when to go after the bowling and when to defend.
He often is on 10 runs from 20 balls. Then scores 40 runs off the next 10 balls!!  ;)

Can we call up Bresnan to bat at four? He can turn his arm over if needed allowing us to play four spinners as well.

Cook
Duckett
Root
Bresnan
Ali
Stokes
Bairstow
Woakes
Rashid
Ansari
Batty

Throwing a curveball and going with Sonic, reckon he could cope with spin.

KP - best England bat I the last 20odd years, proven match winner and solid No4. Won't happen in a million years but certainly should be. Batty has been picked as no one elsa deemed good enough and cupboard bare. The No4 slot is the same so KP should be added to the squad on the same basis.

As much as I love Pietersen, does he even play cricket anymore? His various social media accounts make him out to be a safari guide...

Bell shouldn't even be considered as a drinks boy. His record is woeful in India

That a bit harsh on Bell. He was one of the best juice mixers on the tours. His juice to water ratio was second to none. One of the best drinks boy you can have #gatorade #h2o

Bell! (But I'm a Warwickshire lad, and I've spent time with him)...
How about Roy?

Samit really isn't a bad shout, if he's fit enough.
