First game in a new league ended in a close defeat. We scored 211 which was chased down with 2 balls remaining for the loss of 8 wickets. Felt ok batting but tried to play the sweep too early to a right arm bowling over. Really shouldn't have played that shot so early! Took a good skier to claim the first despite a team mate trying to call it and everyone else expecting (hoping for) a collision. Personally must do better next week and not brain fart!

First year as 1st XI captain this year.

Elected to bowl first hoping for an early season wobble from the other team. Only for them to rack up 258-9 off their 45 overs. We then got off to a great start with our openers nearly putting on 100 for no loss. Chased it with 4 balls to spare. Great start to the year

18 off 17 balls for me. Silly sweep shot ending my innings LBW

First time we've won our first game of the season since 2011 :D

First game opening yesterday.
We bowled first and got smacked around for 250 by a very strong team.
We got 120 AO in response, I took a catch and made a gritty 23 before being given lbw. Not the start we hoped for but was good to be back playing and looking forward to next week

We got beat today we set 220 and there 4 proffesional knocked them off. Joe Weatherley is a fine batsman and Asher Hart is a decent quick bowler but the Dutch International who batted 3 and bowled rather sharp was good fun. scored 20 before trying to slog sweep batted at 4 and kept soundly.

Really enjoying my cricket, best standard i think i have played at if i'm honest and will have to keep up and improve if i want to stay ahead. League i think in terms of quality is right up there with the best i have played in, and they play on great roads.

Third defeat on the spin, collapsed and went in at 96-8. Skied one and another duck to the tally. We put up 160, they knocked it off easily, I took my one catch late on.

Feeling utterly dejected right now, just not fun losing like we are doing so; I've never claimed to be any good myself but maaaaaan its a bummer.

Down into the 3rd XI this week after a waste of time last week.

Wasn't bad overall - opened the bowling with 6-2-18-2 and batted at 5 scoring 11 before getting out to a full bunger which I bottom edged into my toe before rolling into the stumps.

We scored 147 ao v 86 ao for the oppo.

3 wins for the club this weekend also!

We beat Grimsby today in a good game. Team scored 250 and they were about 30 short all out chasing.
There was a ton for both sides.
I got 25 to go with another 25* on Thursday night so not bad for early season.

Well my game in the 5th XI was an experience if nothing else.

The opposition won the toss and batted first. They made 161-2 off their 42 overs. Considering it's a small ground with a quick outfield this was well below par.
On a personal note I bowled 10 overs, 4 maidens 0-27. There were 2 dropped catches off my bowling and their umpire wasn't playing LBWs (no more said on that!)

In reply we chased it down within 30 overs so won by 7 wickets.
I was down to bat at no.7 so I wasn't required.

It was nice to contribute with the ball on a winning side, but hopefully I get a chance to wield the willow next week!

First league game as 2nd XI skipper. Interesting start, we got put in on a council wicket that hadn't seen water in weeks. Played OK for 3 overs before it started popping off a length and stopping. Basically the going through the top. I had one fly off length past my left shoulder, hit me in the chest, before eventually fending one to slip for 3. We got 100, which felt like a minor triumph from 54-8.

We have one advantage over the oppo at this level, while there bowling was kids we had an experienced vets and a huge 6'4 opening bowler. He proceeded to take 6-8, while myself and another vet bowled 13 overs 2 for 14 at the other end. Our third vet, a leggie cleaned up the tail as we bowled them put for 49. They were 12-7 at one point!

If we can score runs we'll clean up alot of teams this season.

First Beds League game today. Bowled first and had them all out for 174 inside the 40 overs. Took 3-22 off my 8 overs with 2 drops and an edge which our keeper just missed, was also very pleased with our First Team Keeper's 13 year-old brother opening the bowling and taking 4 wickets in his first ever senior game.

For the second day in a row was down to at 8 but ended up opening up as nobody else wanted to. Made 3 before i fended off a bouncer which ballooned up into the keepers gloves. We ended up on 140-odd, just couldn't get ourselves over the line.

Had to play in the 4XI due to injury on Saturday. Nice to actually win a game after 3 defeats. Managed to somehow score 96. Not the greatest innings of my life but still good to get some runs and not end the game on crutches.

What surprised me at the game was how quickly people can just abuse the umpire. This was a division 7 match and one of our bowlers just lost it at the oppositions umpire after he called a wide down leg. It was all just a bit over the top.

First 4 XI game of the season and thus my first game. Oppo won the toss and batted, got them 197 ao of 39 overs. Their no 3 must have had his weetabix because he was seeing it brilliantly which affected my figures. Opened bowling 6-1-39-0. Couldn't quite sort run up out but still managed to get some good movement away even though the pace was a bit down.

In reply we ended up chasing it down to be 199-9 off 39.4 overs, some brilliant batting performances by some youngsters and a few oldies. I however managed 3 before playing round a straight one. Was great to start off with a win and a 100 point weekend for the club!

The only downside to the game was the oppo had a mouthy git. I don't mind a bit of banter "ooo playing at air" etc occasionally, however when you are shouting at your own team mates, throwing a tantrum when a catch is dropped, appealing for LBWs off a massive inside edge, complaining harsh wides for balls at the return crease and heres the kicker abusing all of our batsmen including the youngsters and having a dig at me for my haircut and because i have chosen to give myself an alternative appearance then that's too much. This was in the bottom league of the sunday 3rds so if he thinks hes that good i'm not too sure why hes playing there!

Anyway rant over, great way to start the season, can't wait for next game.

Middlesex's finest second team off with a win in Div 1 in a very close game where we defended 172. The oppo brought their club chairman to umpire for them so we ended up having to get 14 wickets to win the match.

3 weeks without a score thou after more winter practice than ever before. Is it going to pay off I wonder  :)

to contract our ones shipped over 300 against Ickenham firsts and selection is back on the agenda  'early doors'
