Leaked 319

We lost wickets So given we were never chasing down the score just batted for the pretend draw to deny bowling pts. Shame we don't play the draw which would keep the game alive.

This your game Adie ? Doesn't look like a draw ?

Emotional day for my club today, as a real clubman sadly passed away on Thursday. We had a minute silence in his honour before all of our games.

Onto the game itself, we batted first and posted 198-5 (I was down to bat no.8 ) with our opener carrying his bat for 96* (he counts so we suspect jug avoidance...)

In reply we restricted the opposition to 173-8
I finally picked up some wickets in the league, taking 2-29 off 6

It was good to get our first win of the season, it feels like we're actually up and running after the first couple of games being false starts.

Won today kept ok 2 catches and a stumping but only 3 with the bat. That's the 50 over white ball part of the season done onto time cricket from next week with whites and a red ball....

Really enjoying the challenge.

Good chase!!

We were rained off after fielding for 32 overs

That's annoying

Another curious game for us in a league of very varying standard. In a limited overs game, Shepperton limped to 49 AO off 28 overs!!!

We chased it down scoring 53-2 off 6 overs I think. Our opener scored all 53!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bit of a dreadful game really.

As variable as ours I think. We got demolished by a very good Esher side who piled up 278/4 even though we didn't bowl or field that badly, had a couple of bats who had just come back from uni and looked much too good for 3s and scored over 200 of them. We never looked like getting close.  At long last I made a few, tho Disappointing not have gone on from 29. At least I managed to play a few decent shots, even nailed a pushed on drive, maybe the coaching has worked a bit.

Seen it all now. We batted first and managed 138 all out with a weakened team. Then during the lunch break, the heavens opened....

Hailstones the size of marbles were left on the outfield. Very little chance of the second half being played due to the puddles left when the hailstones melted. Even more so when the opposition removed the covers and managed to spill the remaining water over the pitch on an average length (village stuff).

Cue the most bizarre sight I've seen at a cricket ground for years. One of their lads heads towards the groundsman's container and comes back with a petrol leafblower and proceeds to try and blow off these puddles of water that were on a length! 10 - 15 minutes later he'd managed to blow the water away but the area was still soaking wet. Being towards the top of the table, they obviously fancied their chances of knocking the runs off against our weakened team (quite rightly so) so they had no problem batting on what now was a 'spicy' wicket.

However... what Mr. Leaf Blower man failed to take into account was the bowlers run ups that were still soaking. Our complaints fell on deaf ears and were told just to 'get on with it' by the umpire. Our opening bowler went for 16 off his first over (wides galore) as you could see quite rightly that he was worried that he would hurt himself.

We gave him a couple of more overs but we ended up turning to our spinner from that end just so nobody would end up hurting themselves. They eventually knocked them with just the 1 wicket down. Credit to them, they batted really well - but I thought cricket was supposed to be an even contest? When you have to change tactics because you don't want anybody to get hurt - it becomes a farce in my eyes.

What the umpire was thinking I'll never know.

Lost our first league game of the season. We aren't a strong 2nd XI and when you lose key individuals with bat and ball it's tough. It's a very true saying "80% of the game is won or lost at selection"!. Anyway onto the game. We batted first and made a bright start to be 46-2 off 12, only to reveal our lack of batting strength to collapse to 6-60 off 24. Dug the team out of trouble somewhat with a 15 year old for company to get to 120-8 and when they were creaking at 52-3 off 22 a resulted looked possibly. Unfortunately the spectre of not having an umpire meant a couple of things that should been given weren't and we grassed a couple of chances at slip early on. Our seamers lacked consistency and the oppo eventually won by 6 wickets. Good, if hard day for me 31* with the bat and 15-4-23-3 with the ball. I was in pieces this morning first thing  :D

Just going to add I had 16,15,15,13 year olds in my team. Even in defeat there is a long term upside.

Good win well done. Number 6 for Shepperton:Isobel.

I'm all for women's cricket but with other women. If nothing else it's complicates th changing room arrangements.
