Forgot to do last week, so here goes. Played both days and it showed the best and worst of friendly cricket. Saturday we played
@Ciaran bunch in a friendly as our league game was called off. We had a steady innings and got 158-5 in 40 and Ivanhoe managed 120 ao. Great thing was the game was played in good spirit and our youngsters got valuable time with bat and ball, the result wasn't important. I didn't bat or bowl and it was a pleasure to see the youngsters perform.
Sunday couldn't be more different, play a team called Luton Caribbean who took pleasure in smacking a team including 7 colts all over the place. Bit unfair when your young opening bowler sticks one on a length only to be driven out of the ground. Don't mind colts get hit around if they bowl bad balls but when you are trying to encourage colts to play cricket you could do with some common sense from the oppo. On one occasion I told the batsman "does it make you feel big smacking kids around". I've played with many overseas players who wouldn't dream of doing the things they were doing, anyway they scored 237-5 in 35 overs and then bowled us out for 76. Bowled 7-0-25-0 and was feeling good with the bat until I chopped on a googly for 15. Played a couple of cover drives that I haven't played in years, so maybe I'm coming into some decent form. Needless to say we cancelled the return fixture this week and found a lower standard oppo!
