We have talked much about praising and appreciating our purchased bats.

Did anyone ever have a disappointment with a new or used bat?

I've had 2 MSR's which were both planks. One was a g1 the other a butterfly. A GM Apex original was also poor.

Yes, many of us, and one brand in particular did pretty badly in that respect. Just search for the SAF topic on here.

Only real disappointment I've had in a good while was a sports direct sale GN which just felt a bit rubbish when netting, small middle and vibrations through the handle even after a good knocking in and a few nets. Suspect it was just pressed too hard, maybe it'll make someone a decent bat if they give it the time to open up, but I just moved it on via eBay.

Not in recent times but Have had two both GNs one I took back to the sports retail store and explained it didn't ping  but they didn't  want to know so I contacted my insurance helpline who wrote to them I got  my money back on returning the bat.
The second i sent back to GN  with a covering letter after phoning first stating  the bat  didn't  ping they swopped it for a like for like new bat no problem.

Bought a 3lb puma/millichamp when i was 14 . Looked amazing grain wise and was top of the line g1 . They wouldn't let me use a mallet to ping test it in store , but they ping tested a bunch in front of me and gave me the 'best' one which i bought in good faith . Anyway it was an absolute plank . Vibrated like hell and sounded like Dennis Lillee's aluminum bat when you managed to find the miniscule middle . I took it back to the store .... they laughed in shock( embarrassment? ) when they ping tested it again , apologised profusely,  replaced the bat and i ended up with an absolute belter . Sometimes you get a dud . Moral to that story - i still occasionally buy bats from the same store till this day but i always say to them ' if you don't let me ping test it myself I'll take my money elsewhere'.

I bought a top of the range GN Velocity a few years back with the carbon handle. It was absolutely terrible. I took it back to Robertsbridge 3 times and each time they refuse to do anything to it. I ended up chucking it in a skip it was that bad.

Performance free B3s. Once in a blue moon, I'd use them against cheap net balls in nets. They are so hard pressed you can drive nails with them.

Never again, I say!

Also had a bad b3. Just didn't sound right. Sold on & put it down to a one off.

I've often found the duds turn into absolute guns as soon as they're used by a teammate :-[

I have also had bad experience with GM so I won't be buying GM anymore.

A few rock hard GMs off all grades. Shame as I did used to like and rely on a good GM

Had a grays that was awful. Shop agreed and sent back to grays, grays returned it claiming it was fine and they wouldn't refund/replace.
Amusingky.you could see the mark in the stickers where they had repressed it to about 1inch from toe to. Just below splice was pressed a few mm lower and you could. See it plain as day).
They also manage to. Burn one of the edges(can only presume steaming dents out went wrong)

It was a dud and ended up as a lad at our clubs indoor bat. Tape ball all it was useful for.

A 2014/15 GM 808 Icon, quite heavy for it's size and pressed hard as a rock. And a Spartan CG Authority(top of the line?), soft as soft gets and not in a good way. The response was terrible when bouncing a ball on it and the balance was terrible, felt like all the weight was near the toe. Very heavy concaving on it too.

Both these bats were not mine but a friend's, bought blind online.
