Heard an interesting story last week about GM.
A NZ batsman sponsored by GM was breaking all his GM bats (not on purpose

) and I heard that a lot of pro GM's were breaking last season. Anyway he was about to face the Aussie bowlers in the Chappell/Hadlee series this year and had no bats. GM had to send him an off the shelf model which by all accounts was much smaller than his usual bats as he uses 2.8. He was pretty good about it but was shocked at the size difference but had no choice to face Mitchell Stark et al with it. He managed to score a couple of 40's I think. So it can be done with bats available to the public.

I'm sure most pros could use a shop grade 1 bat just as well
It's just some club players who think super extra grade one plus improves their game
Only difference I see as you say is the size of it, because they don't have to last pros bats are probably bigger for the weight

Pros middle the ball more often compared to an average club level player so they get more value for the shot out of any off the the shelf bat.

Agreed seen some very poor bats from the big boys off the shelf but it no surprise a professional could use a shelf bat and do well.

Let's be honest most professional level batters could use any old bat and there bats are not mic. Of at all better than many on here

Ok.

Let's say I believe you people. If that's the case, then we should re-term all the "Pro" bats as "suitable for the worst club batsman" as they are the MOST forgiving bats, with the largest possible sweet spot (ping-tastic), and best value for money. Whereas the "worst possible poop bat" should be used by the clubbies and Pros (alike) as the badge of hono(u)r or testament to the height of their batting skills. Sheesh.

Let's send Virat Kohli some Kashmir willow bats so that he can score some centuries on behalf of CBF! He'd be delighted.

Lots of players below the elite , pros get grade 2 and 3 and still do very well with them.

Do you think all professional get the best grade 1 Williow money can buy.

Most heartwood 50/50 bats have come from grade 3-4 clefts anyway.

That's not what I am saying. They don't get poop bats either and saying that they will go on scoring centuries with crap Kashmir willow bats is not realistic ( to put it mildly). Those huge hits you see by ABD, Chris Lynn, etc. are not coming off the el-cheapo Kashmir willow bats.

On the contrary, I think there is a lot of misinformation peddled around here about bats and their quality. Unfortunately, one of the myths peddled is that Pros can score big ones with crap bats. I say put that to test. Unfortunately, lot of "pretty face" bat grading is driven by consumer demand but ping on the other hand is what's given to Pros.

They get the pingiest bats of the lot and many have amazing grains. Don't you watch tv?

I have some and they ping like rockets! Doesn't mean they are bad bats. Grading system is consume driven but that does _not_ mean that pros are getting sponge soft bats, their bats rock.

Best bat I ever owned was a Kasmir SS, �22 better than any bat i've used (35 bats this year).....tempted to call my mate up for a re-buy..

Here is what I am reading so far: grading system as we know is upside down. Let's grade bats on ping / performance and save consumers from their innocence.
