No LBW's...
« on: December 29, 2017, 03:27:59 PM »

Just found out that at our league AGM in November, there was a proposal for Divisions 3&4 (lowest Saturday divisions) to adopt a 'no LBW' rule (i believe it was put forward as a proposal from the ECB)

Predictability it was outvoted 13-1, but it baffles me that it was even put forward in the first place, given that there's only one team in our league who are cheaters when it comes to the LBW rule, and thankfully they've moved into a different league system this year!

I'd love to play in a no LBW league

Stand in front and don't worry about missing it :D

So would our number 11 who takes an off-stump guard and then stands slightly outside!

Still manages to get bowled most weeks :D

Our now defunct indoor league had a no lbw rule.

To the really quick good bowler's, I used to stand square on covering the stumps and scoop everything.
As we also had a no caught of the wall rule...... So all helped.

Id walk out to bat with two bed mattresses strapped to my legs, then take a Chanderpaul stance in front of the stumps and just swing like crazy . Happy days .

If no LBW, then it'd be fair to remove any bouncer/beamer rules and no ball rule as well.

To be fair, in lower leagues where you have  opposition players umpiring, how many times does one actually get a positive response for an LBW appeal.

Yeah, that seems fair.
Remove LBWs but attempted murder by bowling a beamer off 16 yards becomes fine...

^ You can wrap yourself in body armor if you are afraid, but at your level, you won't need it.

What level do I play then champ? Having played with and against internationals it must be shocking, eh?

Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. You're the one who admitted to using football cones to mark the 30 yard circle. That's the hallmark of a high standard... ;)

If you removed LBW then I’d literally stand on off stump and then the only dismissal would be caught. Stupid idea yet again

I've heard this suggesyed for games of friendly cricket in which I've been involved. It's a totally ridiculous idea. I made it clear that I would refuse to play a game adopting these rules

I'm surprised the ECB is encouraging it. What message is it sending out? We can't trust each other not to cheat?

You seem very confused and angry about the point you are trying to make. Keep at it. It will happen, someday.

To be fair when sides provide their own umpires you're effectively playing no LBWs anyway. That's the joy of having neutral panel umpires, it eradicates that particular quirk of cricket
