I'm sure they would have done better because they would have had better players in, the only reason was that they area better team. question: How many times do you hear of supporters saying that their best players are taken for England and that is affecting the county's results. Bairstow could fit anywhere in the top 7, easily.
It's not his fault that the selectors don't pick him, but you can still say that they'd do better with him. He'll be picked in the team as soon as Morgan steps down as captain.
