So with 2 weeks until our first Pre-Season game and 4 weeks until our season is due to start our ground is under an inch of snow still and it’s -2 this morning.
So when do you reckon you will play your 1st game?? Our grounds man hasn’t been able to get into the square for any length of time since last week in Feb due to snow and then rain and now snow again

I reckon 1st game will be in May this season can’t see much cricket happening in April here in Suffolk.
Seen it all before With the ever changing uk weather a few good drying days with sunshine and rising temperatures  Grounds although soft in April become playable

I don't image many will trouble the scorers though on those first few games.

Just played our grand final game on Saturday. Unfortunately we went down by 37 runs. Hardest thing about it all is that we went undefeated all season and to lose on grand final day was pretty devastating

Tough luck mate, that must have been hard to take. Hope that the game was played in a good spirit, and that you go one better in 2019!

That's harsh - I always find these type of 'finals' a bit of an anti-climax much like the Premiership rugby playoffs here in England. Surely if you're the top team after a normal league season then you're the best team. Losing to a team who came second and may have been quite a way behind points-wise doesn't make any sense to me.

Just found out that my club has pulled our 2nd team this year only leaving one team in the top division.

Sad times as we've always had a 2nd team but this also coincides with the league also dropping down from 4 divisions to just 3.

Death of cricket being witnessed first hand, sad times :(

Our Two Counties cricket committee has already cancelled the 1st round of league matches scheduled for the 14th of April and extended the season into mid Sep due to the weather.

Got me thinking should we look to start our UK season in May and go through to Sep? As hardly ever start with our 1st set of league games mid April and have had 1 pre season friendly in the last 3 seasons due to weather. I guess we will lose a few players back end of the season to football but we also never have them at the start due to football anyway.

What’s others thoughts??

Play mid April to mid sept anyway but just play any missed games on bank holidays .. if a few can’t be available then it’s no different to people missing games anyway

Genuinely can't remember ever playing in a league which started in April, always the first weekend of May. If I have ever played a league game in April then it's always been the last Saturday of the month.

League starts 5th May, but we have a pre season game vs Burgess Hill on 21st April and first rounds of Sussex t20 on 28th April- 12pm vs Ifield at East Grinstead, winner plays EG at 3pm.

Grounds weekend this weekend, may escape building my brothers kitchen to do some grounds work.

Before league cricket become the way to go Always used to start to play the first Sunday in April with a full figure card every Weekend upto and including the first weekend in October.
Cut tracks on both edges of the square working towards the middle  of the square by the end of may and then back out towards the edges for sept onward matches.
