Winning draw Saturday, batted first and got 255/7 from 52 declared. Didn't bat, got about 10 overs pad rash as I was next in. Bowled well, they clung on 9 down for 211 from 48. Couple of missed chances that cost us. Personally bowled well but figures don't show it, 8/2/50/1, had nobody off the square so any decent hit flew away. Wicket was caught at mid off.

Yesterday with frogs we bowled first, oppo set 192 to win. Bowled 3/0/16/0 at the death, drop off my bowling. I dropped one running round in the last over, but fielded well otherwise. Was down to bat 4 but didn't get in, one opener got 102 and the other 50* with a 4 to seal the win and get to 50. 32 overs padded up ready, but a good team performance and nice to enjoy watching team mates batting well.

Making my debut for Sussex Cougars (uni alumni) tomorrow at Brackley CC.

Scorecard from Ansty 2s Saturday was interesting...

Thought you were going back to Chalfont?

If it's Brackley in Cherwell league (Northants) then pull out! Unless it's improved recently it's a horrible place to play cricket.

Back skippering my Sunday side but lost a very good game. Restricted opposition to just 119 off 40 overs on what initially looked like a road but turned out to be quite tricky to bat on. In reply I thought we were crusing at 60-3 but the opposition spinner who came on first change wreaked havoc and we ended up 96 all out. For the second week running, I went in at No.11 (this time my own choice) and with our best batsman still at the other end, I was confident that we could knock these runs off. However, I think he let his concentration drift as the aforementioned spinner had just completed his 8 over spell and he was immediately out caught and bowled by the chap who replaced him.

Incidentally, the opposition opening bowler is 82 years old and bowled 8 overs straight through and finished with figures of 8 overs, 22 runs for 1 wicket. This was on the back of bowling 10 overs yesterday !!!!

this is why I love cricket!

Decided to stick with Ansty, getting more of a game now.

Yeah it's Brackley Northants, hopefully it has improved!

Apparently apart from Hadders and Meg all the bowlers were spraying it about so the keeper hadn't got a chance on a lot of them.

Not a terribly exciting T20 last night. We won comfortably, although it didn't look that way when the oppo reached 77-0 off 9 overs. Unfortunately they only had three batsmen so once the openers were gone, our change bowlers had a field day. They finished 117-8 off their 20. We knocked them off in 13 overs for the loss of 2 wickets. I got 17*.

Three interesting occurrences.
a) they had a slow-scoring batsman who wasn't hurting us. There was a run out appeal and he was given out by their umpire, but a few of us could see that the keeper had knocked off the bails with his gloves before the ball arrived, so we had a quick conference and decided to call him back, for which he was very grateful. Whether we'd have been so virtuous had he been rocking along at 12 an over, I'm not sure.

b) The same bloke was then given an over during our chase (I think they were mixing their bowling up as they could see they didn't have nearly enough) He has one of our batsmen caught, twice, both to fantastic diving catches. But both times they are ruled out for a no-ball because the ball bounced twice. Village moment of the game.

c) We needed 1 to win with a new batsman at the crease and me at the non-strikers end. The ball gets away from the keeper and there is an easy run, but I shout "no" as I figure the new batsman would like the chance to hit the winning runs off his own bat. Next ball he drills it straight at midwicket and is caught. He wasn't too pleased.

After having a bad couple of years at work (redundancies in my team and then moving to a more stressful role) where I didn't play much cricket I'm back playing a bit more this season.

So far it's going pretty well, I've still had my customary ducks where I've played completely cross line but I've also had three of my highest scores ever batting. 74* off 23 balls first midweek game, 67 last weekend and something I never thought I'd get - my first hundred a couple of weeks ago. Not at a great standard but still really pleased with it, off 49 balls - got out stupidly trying to play a cover drive which just isn't my shot at all.

No a bad game last night considering I didn't actually do anything!

We fielded first and the opposition made 156-2 off their 16 overs.
The guy who had been keeping was taken ill so I took the gloves for the last few overs. I didn't let any byes through during my stint (admittedly I only had to take the ball about 4 times as the batsmen were hitting everything!)

We chased it down with 7 wickets in hand and an over to spare.
I thought I was going to get pad rash as we needed next to nothing with our opener and number 3 both going well.

Our number 3 was caught to a ridiculous 1 handed catch on the boundary (think Stokes to dismiss De Villiers) with 15 needed to win, and our number 4 was cleaned up with the scores level! I hit the winning run in my 1*  ;)

T20s without compulsory retirements are a truly miserable format.

Are they?
I quite enjoy our midweek league. 16 overs, no field restrictions, off you go!

What would be the point of retirements in such a short game? You'd have to walk off as soon as you got your eye in.

Everyone gets a bat, (almost) everyone gets a bowl. Batsmen aren't distracted by chasing personal milestones. The best overall team wins (rather than the team with a couple of in-form players).

Honestly, I've played in T20 leagues all over the country and have never come across one without some form of compulsory retirement, either at 25, 30 or 50. If you want to play for the joy of cricket and the thrill of working as a team to try and get the win, then its the perfect format. Obviously if you only play cricket for personal statistical glory then its probably not the format for you.

Agree with SLA on this one - Surrey Slam has compulsory retirement at 50. Since it's aimed at a "recreational" level of cricket, the last thing people want is for some absolute gun to smack a hundred and demoralise everyone

Yeah, I think retire at 50 is a decent shout, got to 30 many times without feeling like I've achieved much, 50 is always an achievement.

Anyone else seeing the irony that SLA has a ton in t20s??

Now he either carries his side if it had retirements then, or his entire team had one bad day.

I'm actually a bowler so retirement is never likely to effect my batting, I'd actually count a season's average being in double figures as "statistical glory"...

As far as "playing for the joy of cricket and the thrill of working as a team to try and get the win" I'm always pleased for a teammate if they get a personal milestones, be it 5 wickets, a hattrick, 50 or a 100. If they do so in a winning efforts even better!

While this everyone gets a bat, retire on X amount of runs sounds great in theory, I can't help but think it's a result of today's everyone is entitled to something society. At the end of the day I prefer traditional cricket where the batsmen bat and the bowlers bowl, but that's just me
