The report on the NCCC site mentioned how desperately he wanted to get on strike in the final over of Sunday’s play, so I imagine that Mullaney had informed him that he only had until close of play.

Mullaney full of praise for Clarke's attitude on The Cricketer website.

Rory Burns smothered in New Balance gear
New Balance pinning their hopes on him opening the batting in the Ashes then, they have swung their massive cheque book around once more. If you add Roy to the mix which most people are saying it'll be a NB 1 & 2

I think Root is the only consistent test player in the England team so they'll be wanting more names to add to that. I know wood is also with NB but he's not a regular nor is he in the middle long enough to use his bat.

Burns' technique always amazes me, it looks so awkward but he hits the ball so pure!

His left eye is dominant, so he moves his head right round to ensure that he can see the most he can with that eye.

Decent crowd here, considering how cold it is.

Depends :if you look at it from the bowlers gather he is pretty orthodox - it's the stuff a few seconds out that looks odd.

Like a lot of so-called 'unorthodox' pro batsmen?

Glad he got there. Over two and a half thousand there yesterday, apparently.  In the freezing cold.

I don't think the position he gets into at the point of release is too bad, the main issue for me is that he plants his front foot on off stump and doesn't move it from there.  Anything wide of the off stump and he is slashing away from his body with no control, anything into him and he is either at risk of lbw or chipping it in the air as his weight falls over to the off side.
