Butler has been solid for us for 12 months, reading him described as a luxury player on here is just mind boggling.
Denly seriously pleased for him, I know his selection has split us armchair selectors but he’s done pretty well. Initially probably a temporary stop gap but I’m not sure he is anymore. If Root goes back to 4 long term, Denly could bat 3 with a new opener in place, gives a bit of experience ahead of Root.
Bairstow as
@rickjames mentions may be heading for some karma, toys out when Foakes took the gloves and clearly he wants two positions in the team. He’s got to go, may not be Foakes that replaces him but Butler. Cannot see how Bairstow is a better keeper and over 12-18 months he’s not a better batsman than Butler..who is the ultimate ‘white ball biffer’ Turned into intelligent lower order batsman in tests.
Pope should be in the squad for the winter with Bairstow gone and probably Roy leaving gaps to pick Sibley and Pope.
I think myself Bairstow and Roy should just be short format players.
