After far too long a wait said owner finally got his grubby mitts on this yesterday. Forgot to bring a ball and the hotel didn't have a single LV mallet at reception so I haven’t knocked it up yet but it’s a beauty and picks up magnificently.

Shall ping test the middle when I get home tomorrow and the rest of it  at nets in a week or so.

Been busy lately, so not posted much up here but thought you might appreciate this beauty I made up today.

Smidge over 2lbs 11oz. But as you can see, it has a mass of stunning willow in it. Picks up ridiculously well imo and feels great when tapping up. Some piece of willow this one!

Looks very similar to some of the New Balance shapes that I have seen, great bat Jonny!!

As others have said, that really is a lovely shape. But more than that, I am so impressed by how you and other bat makers on here manage to keep so much wood in there for these weights.

Do you think you know pretty much from first weighing the cleft that it is gonna be a stonker, or does your view on it ever change noticeably while you are working on it (for better or worse!)?

Cheers all, it is a beauty tbf but the shape was a take/copy on the bat a pro left in the workshop. So not an original of mine really. Appreciate the feedback though!

@marsbug you get a good idea from the weight of the cleft, but you can't really say it's going to get to a specific weight and exact specs etc with full certainty until shaping. Some you expect to make a weight don't and some the other way. I've seen videos of other batmakers say they've had to remake bats as the clefts they thought would make the weight, hadn't.

I'd also add that i post maybe 5 percent of bats i make on here, which are generally the bigger ones, as generally others don't really get much interaction. So although it seems like most bats are gauge fillers, in reality they're not. Especially at lighter weights

I used a Scott bat tonight and like the one shaped above what I like about your bats are the balancing on them the handle shape and size and the feel. I know people don’t like talking what it feels over it weight but Johnny has managed to balance my one very well and I will no doubt be seeing the bat above this thread soon.

I tend to use 2/8 really but used a heaven bat I think around 2/11 maybe wcenc2/12 and feels fine on the up swing feel really balanced and suits my punch style over out and out hand speed

Have to say I've found much the same with Jonny's bats. I've got one that's now 2'12 with a heavier grip, cut grips up top, and edge tape added, and it picks up every bit as well as the 2'9 bat I was using last season.

For me, a huge part of that is in the balancing - particularly that Jonny uses good quality handles and leaves them at a reasonable size, rather than shaving them down to achieve big specs at a lower scale weight - but also that on all my Scott bats there has been a good volume of wood left running into the splice. This is brilliant for durability but it also leaves a heavier bat feeling much more balanced in your hands.

Not been posting much on here bat wise, but made quite a few. Including a few different shapes to find something to add to the range.

 This one inparticular i liked a lot shape wise when i finished it up. It pings really nicely and feels great for 2lbs 11oz. Shows you don't need pretty willow to get a nice stick. Tempted to stick it in the bag 🤔😆

Been pretty conservative with this beauty as a good few of our guys tend to pop up at nets with some pretty horrible balls.
Been very lightly knocked in and used for a few rounds of fielding practice. Used in anger for the first time at nets this week (after a ball check), and goes every bit as well as it looks.

Ironically the main issue I have is that I've gotten so used to crappy thin, weight saving handles that I'm not used to a bat where I don't need to use a double thickness chevron, but should just be a matter of using it to get used to it. Especially as UK made double chevrons seem to be a thing of the past now.
