I wrote the season off about 6 weeks ago, isnt worth the pain or worry about when and if we would be able to play again. Just cant see it happening, and even if they manage to squeeze some in it just wont be the same

On another note I am keen to know when will SLA be running for Prime Minister?

I wrote it off as soon as lockdown hit. Any games that are played will be under strength sides so not competitive even if they are in a cup/league format. If it’s safe to play (deaths at 0) then great.. if not, it’s only a game and will be back next year

@SLA for almost every country in the world right now I would agree with you.
However, in the UK and US, the leadership and plans in the UK are horrendous and they have mucked it up.

So we are where we are with this.

I would add Brazil to that list.  The tragedy of the matter is that we had time to look at what we happening elsewhere and still failed to act.

The issue as restrictions are lifted is going to be dealing with the perceived inconsistencies between some activities being allowed whilst others remain banned when there seems to be no difference in risk.  It, as is being suggested, gyms will be opening in July, it will be hard to see why recreational cricket can't resume

Jeez lads, it's not (No Swearing Please) ebola. There are good reasons why things are returning to normal only slowly, but the reason they're returning to normal is because the risk is very very low. The chances of someone you play cricket with or against having c19 is minimal, if sensible restrictions are abided by the chances of you catching it off the bloke who doesn't have it even smaller. Say you do get it, the chances of it being any worse than a couple of days feeling funny are slim again. Calm down, SLA makes good points (for once :D ). Here's hoping we get the chance to play some cricket this year.

How are you comparing Ebola to covid 19? Are you aware of the global death rates difference? And I can assure you getting covid 19 for a lot of people is far worse than feeling “funny”

It's not a terribly useful comparison but if you get ebola you've got a 40-50% chance of dying, if you're healthy with covid it's more like 0.9% (beat source I could find with a semi-lazy google). Latest figures on the UK suggest that 70% of cases don't even have symptoms, so if you feel funny you're already on the worse end. I mentioned ebola to try and draw the pont that while there are good reasons we've gone through all the lockdown bullshit, on a personal level it is not a disease to worry about, so if we get a govenrment-cleared chance to play some cricket we can happily grasp it with both hands!

What point are you trying to make here - lots of people have died, let's never play cricket ever again?

On a personal level it’s not one to worry about? Sorry but that is bullshit and direspectful to be honest I lost 2 perfectly healthy colleagues in our healthboard one being a good friend and one I played cricket with so how on earth are you immune to it and not going to effect you on a personal level?

Pretty disrespectful moments mate to be honest with you. We all want to play some cricket but that last couple of days this forum has just been full of thoughtless and disrespectful comments.

Mate I'm sorry to hear that. No disrespect intended, I think you've misread me there - it's not anything to worry about as in we will be able to play cricket perfectly safely, hopefully sooner rather than later.

With the government announcing tonight that you can now exercise outdoors with 5 people from another household.... do we think the ECB will update the training/nets guidelines??

With the govt announcing a phased return of competitive sport, our league have said they are hopeful to start July 4th at the very latest.

There has been chatter all day that there is a meeting between league chairmen and the ECB with a view to starting play on 11 July.  Obviously speculation at this stage but, given this evening's Government briefing, it doesn't seem wildly inaccurate

Even if it's just 1 person out of 22 players is infected then that one person can easily infect the most of his team and possibly few others from the oppo team, week by week infection rates will go up within the cricketing community.

I can understand the pressure to start the economy and kick start professional game in the country due to financial aspects but there is absolutely no need to take a risk with the recreational game. R rate is still between 0.7 and 1 so we don’t have much headroom to risk it with non-essential activities.

The curve we flattened was an artificial flattening due to all actions we took during last few weeks, it’s only going to pick up soon as we go to normal lives.

I’ve been on isolation even before the official lockdown started (working from home full time), I usually play the whole season including friendlies in a normal season, so I’m dying for a game of cricket right now but I see no joy me playing cricket for fun when there is a possibility my actions could lead to some people losing their loved ones.

So I’ve made my peace with 2020 season, even if my league decides to start in July I won’t be a part of it.

So they held a trial game in Guernsey yesterday - no sure if we have any forumites from there?

Using social distancing - note the wicket celebrations, the keeper is standing up though.

Guernsey want into lockdown 2 weeks before the UK and is obviously a much smaller place.

But still an interesting watch.... and an amazing catch in there too!
