Had another match in our local 'friendly' league on Saturday. It was anything but friendly and both sides have to take a portion of the blame for a terrible atmosphere.

We batted first and the opposition asked for the retire at 50 rule not to be in place for the game. Openers put on 147 and I was fortunate enough to make 81 before I was given LBW by our young spinner. I thought it pitched outside leg stump but I wasn't too bothered as I was overcooked by then. We went on to make 234 from our 40 overs. A decent score but by no means unbeatable on a fast outfield and small boundaries.

The second innings was just unpleasant. They didn't give a single decision. Several LBW's, run outs and stumping's also turned down. I was at square leg when the stumping wasn't given and the batsman was still out of his ground when we were celebrating. It was a very poor decision at best and downright cheating at worst. Several players on our team did go over the top in my opinion and we should have just gotten on with things. A lot of cross words were exchanged and I'm not looking forward to going over there in a few weeks for the return. I was a bit unhappy with one of their umpires drinking three beers and smoking whilst he was umpiring but I thought it best to not voice my concerns.

We won the match but about 40 runs in then end and the opposition didn't stay afterwards (good thing). Horrible match but always nice to get some runs.

Yea he was a typical left hander with very good hand eye and looks like lazy feet but was very good at what he did, loves himself but so do we all. Would have been different if we hadn’t put him down on about 10.
Didn’t recognise who was keeping but surly wouldn’t be having the gloves in proper league cricket.

How’s your season going @tommo256

The lad who kept wasn’t the one who scored 120 odd mate. I just had a look at play cricket.

Not playing mate; no real interest sadly, got a few things going on away from the sport field that take some priority. Yours?

Promoted to opener after last week. Chasing 230 on a decent deck. Was very scratchy, dropped at 1st slip from a decent seamer who was getting some away swing. Put on 90 with our number 3, who was in no mood to hang around. It was only when I checked the scorebook later that I saw I contributed 10 to the partnership. That was my most junior of partnerships. Finally got out edging their spinner to slip for around 20.

We fielded terribly, batted poorly and deserved to lose by 70 runs. The heat wasn't too bad for the first hour or so but got really oppressive later on which meant our fielding suffered and they got 60 more than they probably should have.

Back to the nets to work on my technique. Never felt 'in' despite hanging around for 15-20 overs.

We lost the toss and conceded 249 in 40 overs with a terrible fielding performance, was not in the best of moods at the picnic interval. Things looked up from there though - started with the opposition skipper greeting me with 'is that lid reinforced, cos you're gonna need it'! Was even more of a weird comment when both openers turned out to be very military medium. Smacked a few, got sledged a lot, thought I was going to die from heatstroke, out for 72 off 59. They got increasingly aggy as our middle order played like pros and knocked off the rest at a controlled pace. Satisfying win.

@tommo256 no the keeper got 49 before he was sold down the river by the guy that got 125odd to be honest he was quite a good bat as well.

Batting like a drain mate finding weird ways to get out but having the odd bowl this season as well and that’s going really well as fingers are really suffering keeping so think I’ll most likely retire the keeping gloves with the exception of T20 and just concentrate on batting for a couple of years before I more than likely retire at 40.
Fingers crossed the bat making takes over my passion for cricket

Ended with 1/35 which I was fairly happy with, wicket being their number 3, who really fancied himself as a gun, plumb in front.

Just seen who their number 3 is, he's an absolute tool.

Couldn’t agree more mate, he really is an absolute T@-t

Played a couple of years in the Berkshire league and got loads of runs, thought he was a gun, went to Home Counties and averaged 18 and now averages 20 in div 1. Daddy has spent his life blowing smoke up him though and giving him handouts.

Most of the Cookham side were below average blokes to be honest. Their skipper was the only one who didn't come across as a moron.

First for me yesterday - pitch was unplayable, so Slough said they had a pitch used in midweek that they could cut and roll, so we did that and used a pitch that had one hours prep and hadn't been covered.

They got 112. Dropped a steepler diving in the ring, had been going straight in before swirling away last second, but mid wicket then ran the guy out after picking up my drop. Only got two overs, not entirely sure why.

We started pretty slowly, needed 64 from 20 with seven wickets in hand. We managed to go from 96/6, with myself and the number 6 set and going well, to 105ao. I was feeling great, then tried to punch one to mid on who was hanging on the edge of the ring and the ball stuck in the pitch and I skied it for 15. We absolutely choked, and I'm gutted that I've cost us a game we should have won.

It's been noticed that I put myself under a lot of pressure - but that's because I know I can dominate at this standard, and as I'm working two jobs and pulling 60 hour weeks most weeks, cricket is my only down time. I'm quite close to burning out to be honest.

Game today for Frogs vs Maidenhead and Bray, which is always a great fixture. Batting 6 so looking forward to getting some time in the middle.

Well yesterday was awful and has completely put me out of the running for the bowling cup. Oppo batted first on a decent deck and were on 168 off 34.5 overs when the 4th wicket fell and their opening bowler/ gun hitter walk out. I have never seen someone hit a ball so far in my life and I have had the unfortunate pleasure of playing against a few Scotland U19's and an overseas pro before. I got him out on the 4th ball of the 39th over, but by that point the score had gone from 168 up to 246. A partnership of 78 off 29 deliveries of which he scored 66 and there were 6 extras. My figures went from 0-23 off 6 to 1-60 off 8 and the bowler at the other end went from 1-20 off 6 to 1-53 off 8. He hit two cover drive 6's off the bowler at the other end which is unheard of at our level, far too good for this standard. Didn't help that he miss hit quite an easy chance in my 7th over which went straight to a fielder who fumbled it for 6! :( To put it into context I conceded 37 in 2 overs yesterday, and had conceded 78 runs in the 24 overs I had bowled this season before yesterday...

Then he came on to bowl and bowled gas, they combined him with some nagging spinners who our top and middle order couldn't get away and we ended up nowhere near their total. Only consolation for me was I scored a few runs. I walked in at number 10 with the score on 96-8 off 30.2 and batted to the end of the 40 overs making 34 as we ended on 148 losing by over 100.

Looked their gun hitter up and two weeks before he hit 54 of which there were 6x 4's and 4x 6's... Atleast I'm not the only one who received some serious tap from him!

If there's a way to drive others out of the game, this is certainly it. I recognize 4 of them as professionals anyway...

Made my debut yesterday for 2s against team a div up. Gorgeous ground just arrived for the start as there was a serious accident on A12. Opening bowler was seriously quick, well for me anyway. Batted four luckily he only bowled four balls at me enough to leave huge bruise on my foot. I looked like a man who hadn't played in a while. I haven't knocked bat in and my teammates could tell. Dropped a couple of times but just dug in and batted out the innings for 80no out of 207 in 40. We had a good start with early wickets but though never up with rate they were still always in the game. They ended up about 20 short with a few wickets in hand. Using my new red ink keeping gear, had two stumpings and a catch standing up. I am in agony today though. Was great to be back on the cricket field again and I loved the fact was a friendly not league as was played in great spirit.

We had a cracking game yesterday
Turned up in the rain, with the forecast saying it would stop at 1pm, which amazingly it did.
Reduced it down to 30 overs a piece, to try and get a game in before further rain forecast for 5pm.

Aaaanyway, they won the toss, put us in to bat on a very green wicket,(ours), and we lost one of our young openers first over.
I walked out to bat, and basically filled my boots, the wicket was by far the best I’ve batted on at home, plenty of bounce, came on to the bat lovely etc etc. Unfortunately my left elbows knackered so I had to retire hurt on 40, thinking I could always come back on if we struggled.
We didn’t, the rest of our lads batted really well to post 175 off 30.
Which is probably our highest score for a while, (oppos are top of the league and undefeated) so was a great effort.

They have a couple of very decent old timers, but we managed to take wickets regularly and restrict the runs
I think we had them 9 down and 50 runs short after 30

Really good game and more importantly a good overall team win, played against a very strong team, that gave a little bit too much chat, which only serves to fire me up tbh.

But oh my word I’m struggling today, I hate getting old

My awful batting form this season continued with 5 before LBW to a nothing ball really. Not being helped in my mind by moving around from having opened every season for about the last 7 to now as it’s non competitive league games Iv been Opening and four. Anyway sat was in 2nd ball of the game as two weeks in a row now a wicket has been taken first ball of the game.

Felt ok playing against a side again a couple of leagues above us, opening bowler was very tall and bowled a heave ball with a bit of seam movement away, managed to put away a leg stump half volley really well flew to the boundary and thought good back in touch to next ball play all round a straight one.
Good point was my usual opening partner who has been as poor as me good back into the runs with a decent 80odd and we managed 187 from our 40.

They started just as badly as us losing a wicket 2nd ball of there innings and that brought in there gun player, same lad who opened the bowling and scores but runs each season and you could see why, had so much time and raced to 41 before he just played all round a straight one and was bowled to leave them 62-2. Then the wheels totally feel off for them and they ended 76 all out off 19 overs. Took a good diving catch down the leg side behind the stumps and our skipper ended with next figures of 6-29. First win of the season in our mini league and now got all the sides that play on our normal league so looking up for the 2nd half of the season.
Couple of weeks off for me now so fingers crossed a break will do me good.

Out for a duck, missed a yorker, dropped one, won by 60 odd runs. No rain either.
