Wonderful game today, ending with a tie.

Lost the toss and bowled first, first three bowlers keeping it tight but wicketless. Fourth bowler, a young seaming all rounder who lacks confidence, dragged one down which got spooned to me at mid on. After then we got regular wickets, a couple of run outs and I snagged a couple of sharp catches in the gully. Given I haven't taken a catch in the cordon for about five years I was pretty happy with that! Datchet got 199/9 off their 40.

We lost early wickets, including myself, to be 40/4. I was bowled by one that swung late and shaved my off stump, good ball but I didn't play it as well as I could have done. We then had a couple of excellent stands, with three of our u15s and 16s standing up to be counted, scoring 41, 62 and 24* respectively. The team dad, having told me to put him at 11, smacked a six to take us to 2 to win, got a single and watched the youngster bat out the over. Needing one from the last over, one of my guys announced he needed to film the winning run, and promptly filmed an excellent leg stump yorker bowling our 11 to tie the game.

Played in brilliant spirit throughout, really enjoyed it. Very pleased that some of our youngsters showed grit and got scores/wickets, and ultimately got us to a result of sorts that we had no right to get to from 40/4. I've managed to remain the only club captain undefeated this season by the skin of my teeth as well.

I've had the pleasure of playing cricket with my Son who is 13 and has had his first taste of senior cricket, I've had to effectively quit my club to come and play at another club with him as they have a rule of 4 juniors in the Sunday 2's for developmental reasons which I think is bloody brilliant! Great game sunday though, He opened the Bowling and bowled a spell of 8 overs, 1 wicket, 15 runs with 4 maidens! considering one of his over went for 10 runs he was extremely stingey with the runs! I opened the batting for them, got 38 but it was more of a hang around innings as we lost 4 wickets within the 1st 12 overs, My lad was umpiringand gave me LBW!!! to be fair I was trying to sweep a straight one and just wished it. He's grounded now though.

This is what cricket is all about!

We have a father-son combo who play together in the Sunday side I run. Every week there is some hilarity - either one drops a catch off the other's bowling, or gives them out lbw, or runs them out.....

We were short so I got to play with my son at the weekend too. He is only 10 and still really too young, but it was lovely to be out there with him. I can't wait for him to be old enough to bat with me.

Love this mate! Was lucky enough to bat through with my Dad when I was 15 and scored a ton. Still my favourite cricketing memory! Hope you get many more chances to play together.

My boy is 5, can’t wait to get out there with him . As soon as he’s playing senior cricket I’ll drop down to whatever level he is just to play with him

I played with my son a few times and its the best thing ever. I don't think they really understand what these moments mean to the father.
My personal favourite was second game of the season last year when he scored his first senior 100 at the age of 14 and i was umpiring. I think it was a very dusty wicket as it must have blown into my eyes.   ;)

It really is great! He's took to it really well and doesn't get downbeat when he gets the treatment from a bad ball, I was at slip for a few of his first overs and I was dying for a catch to come my way, sadly though his one wicket was caught at Gully but I honestly could have kissed the guy who caught it!

I finally had the chance to play a game with my old man at the age of 21, it's not just the dads it means a lot to!

A day of highs and lows today. The high being I found a bit of form and carried my bat for 30* the downside we were bowled out for 61 chasing 173 on a decent deck but a shocking outfield.

We bowled First and kept it tight for the first Ten taking a couple of early wickets, let it slip a bit between 10-20 overs and at drinks they were 50/2 from 20.
Overs 20-25 were shocking with the change bowlers despite being a bit under strength today bowling all over the place a with a stand in keeper as I was going to have to bowl at some point a lot of byes as well they were 100-2 from 25 overs when I was asked to come on. Bowled quite well with figures of 6-2-21-2 but we leaked more at the other end and they finished 173/9.

Our innings started well, was nice after netting well and putting in some practice over the last two weeks after a awful season so far I was back to opening and watched my partner take 9 from the first over to only nick off 1st ball of the 2nd. Wickets then just carried on falling with some awful shots. Should mention we were playing out local rivals and it’s a bit of a grudge match but we were soon 16/6 from 10 overs.
Just decided at this point to spend some time at the crease as Iv said Iv been out cheaply in 3 of my 4 games before today and was nice to finish 30*

Other highlights was one of our county colts played his first senior game today and he is 11yrs old and he got his first wicket and first run in men’s cricket.
Second was despite a history of quite grumpy games not always played in the best way possible with both sides to blame tbh today was played well.

Anyway qualified for the league finals after finishing 3rd in our league but availability is getting harder each week now

Daft rule. They can play u15 matches against county bowlers bowling at 70mph but not against their dads mates bowling at 35 in a friendly sunday beer match. Just let the parents/coach /captain decide what is safe.

Some say it's daft that a ball hitting the pad outside the line of off stump can't be out lbw? You can't just choose which laws you abide by, surely?

I can imagine (and have seen) circumstances where a captain might prioritise having 11 willing fielders over juvenile safety.

Equally,  I'd have wanted to have a go when I was 11!

His dad was on the sidelines supporting him all day and this lad can play, seriously play. In this season of non league cricket ( we are not playing under the two counties banner) the rule book can do one. He gets nothing from playing in under 12 club games and retiring every week for 25 from a couple of overs and has had no County age group cricket due to what’s happened this summer so was great to get him in the side.

I’m all for rules but in this instance it was right for him.
